The Post-Christmas Rush
Morning, boys - another day, another slate of matches. Two of them - Arsenal's match with Wolves and Leeds' appointment with Villa - have been postponed, but there are still several matches on, including Palace v. Norwich, Southampton v. Spurs and Watford v. WH at 10am and then Leicester v. Liverpool at 3pm.
Join me for a cuppa and some good stuff this morning.

Hi Bob,
I am here for the first match
I have to tutor at Noon so I may have to leave a bit early
Morning, Dave - how was the airport drop-off?
Lucky me...I have to tutor during the entire United Burnley match on Thursday...They are so bad
Nice and simple...it was in Albany. I listened to United's equalizer on the way home and then the last five minutes when I got home
So poor
Some decimated squads out there in those teams. Watford can’t name a full bench, even if their team is not wholly dissimilar to that which lost to Brentford all those years ago. Tom Cleverley, William Troost-Ekong and Jeremy Ngakia are all wholly absent from the squad. Mark Noble has stepped in for a suspended Declan Rice for West Ham, though Ben Johnson and Michail Antonio return.
I'm of course hoping that United can bounce back with a convincing win against the Clarets.
I wouldn't put any money on it!
I am guessing a drab draw
Really bugs me that they need two or sometimes three in the booth....so much chatting!! Just commentate
Antonio Conte is already having a whinge at the fourth official. Hate him.
Listening the radio yesterday, the commentator would just scream the guys name as a shot goes toward goal. Takes about 5 seconds to realize there was no goal....don't be a fan...commentate...describe...your my eyes
All Saints ....sounds like the Church in Worlington
Bugger! Watford have scored early on through Dennis. What on earth is going on with West Ham these days? I need a result from them today!
That's better - Palace have scored early on against Norwich through Edouard.
I need a Spurs win against Soton even though I don't like the Spuds at all under Conte.
We're now down to 17th, tied on points with Watford but with much worse GD.
Free kick for Spurs...Davis heads it in but the flag is up
Saints have chance....bad pass
Nice move by the Saints... guy has a chance to cross...goes backwards and then a poor cross from a worse angle
A corner... goes short and then can't get the ball in the box!
You have a FREE kick to get the ball in the box.... don't take it!
Players, managers.... just too fancy for themselves
Southampton have a throw in...long throw....not cleared....GREAT FINISH BY JWP
One nil Saints
Free kick chance for Kane...decent effort saved by Forster
Ralph H in the book...what's the point of booking him
Wow....The Hammers have come from behind and are now 2-1 up! Goals in the 27th and 29th minutes
Soucek and Benrahma
I'm back from a lovely breakfast with the fam, and delighted with that West Ham recovery. Just what the doc ordered. Watford now back down to 17th on 13 points, three points behind us. But they've got that match against Spurs in hand on us.
Wahay! Spurs have a pen through Son - and Salisu is off for a second yellow!
Saints down to ten men.
Spurs wins a penalty AND Salisu gets a second yellow for the foul.
Definite pen..I don't think it needs a booking but it is the Modern Day
Palace two up vs Norwich
Up comes Kane..Deadly!!
1-1
A rotten half for Spurs all of a sudden is all rosy!
Kane converts and that's three in his last three - he's starting to click again.
Lovely! I'm sorry for the Canaries but not that sorry.
Reguilon gets called for a foul
No card
I figured not
again...that shouldn't be a yellow for the pen. He went to kick the ball...by the time his foot got there...the ball was gone!
It was a foul!
So what kind of students are you tutoring these days? Seems like you've got a regular stream of them.
Another foul...another yellow
Nonsense
Palace 3-0 up - Norwich - oh dear oh dear.
Totally agree with you - it should be a card or a pen, not both. I'm okay with a yellow but not a second yellow.
But as you say, it's the modern game.
Pretty much 7-9th grade
A lot are on quarantine and some are suspended but every one of them have worked hard!
I will be up to SIXTY hours for the month of December!!
Kane tries a curler....doesn't curl enough
Last kick of the half
Half-time at St. Mary's where it's all getting a bit testy. Saints down to ten men but the match is delicately poised at 1-1.
That's great! Is it all under the table or do you have to file a W-2 on it?
The second half is starting up again at St. Mary's. So far, so good with the results.
Wahay! HK races through and slots home. That's four in his last three matches. He's on a hot streak.
Nope - it's chalked off for offside.
Kane hits the net.... but it is called offside!!
THAT SHOULDN'T BE OFFSIDE!
Lucas Moura is replacing Dele Alli now.
Totally agree with you - he should have gotten the benefit of the doubt, like Smith-Rowe did yesterday.
Mark Noble has added a third goal for West Ham - lovely. That's Watford back down to 17th for sure.
If we can just get a win against Burnley on Sunday, we'll have a bit of breathing space again.
No, it is all above the table
I had an "interview"...we just talked over Zoom
You get paid anywhere between $28-32 per hour
I know you could charge a lot more individually but you just get sent jobs to accept or deny and you get in touch with parent
You and/or Kate should do it....simple!
At Selhurst, Angus Gunn is keeping the score down for Norwich with a couple of saves. Rob Green, on Sky, has mentioned that that the son of the Norwich legend Bryan has let in 17 goals in his last 2.5 matches. Ouch.
That sounds really good. Of course, there's probably less demand for French tutoring, but send the info along and I'll pass it along to Kate.
Ball in the net again... foul on Forster....I don't think there is no foul! HE DID NOTHING
Tottenham are knocking on the door here.
Oh - Docherty was in there but his flick was well saved by Forster.
I have a meeting this week with a student that had an Italian class yesterday!
Have Kate take a look
https://syossettutoring.com/services.php
If she wants to try, let me know and I can tell the ladies about her
They are swamped !
All change at St. Mary's - Broja has replaced Shane Long and Spurs have just brought on their new Spanish forward Bryan Gil, who looks like a small boy.
I'll do that - cheers, mate.
What makes it really easy for me, I have an ELMO at home so I can show them work that I am doing... so much easier
Bring one home from the college
Ah - that makes sense. You use Zoom for all of the session or is there some travel.
Walker-Peters has been pole-axed by a drive by Davies. He's down for the count.
All the schools are on Long Island so it is all by Zoom. If a parent wants face to face, they get another tutor
I do, however, have to travel to my basement each time!!
Good morning, Bob and Dave. Here to join you for the matches.
Hi David...they're almost done!
I have done all tutoring by zoom since COVID started. Sounds like quite a commute to the basement.
That is quite a commute!
After this just over a three hour break until the late match.
Welcome, David - great to have you on board.
Thru Syosset, you hand in all of your papers before the 6th of each month for the previous month.
You get paid in the 20s of the next month
Yeah - it was due to be our home match against Villa, which was called off. We're likely to go for a walkies and have lunch.
The word from Vicarage Road is that Watford are giving it a go but remain 3-1 down to West Ham. Norwich are still losing 3-0 but at least it’s going better in this half.
I'd prefer a win for Spurs today but in truth the Saints will probably be mid-table, so I can't worry that much about them. The West Ham and Palace wins are crucial.
Hammers stinging the Hornets. Now lead 1-4 at VR.
Wahay! West Ham have added a fourth goal and are doing Watford's GD some real damage now.
Thanks, Bob. We're looking at a TV to buy
I'll check it out with Kate - she might really like the flexibility of it.
Such poor crossing....they are professionals!
HK goes close there at the far post.
You will find that fourth tasty scored by Vlasic was really tasty. Hornets in a pickle.
Oh - Gil had a chance to win it but Forster was equal to his effort.
I have a two hour session at Noon. Almost all of my sessions are only for an hour but this one is two
Not looking forward to my commute
Spurs get a second late corner
Sounds like an extra crispy finish for West Ham.
Over at VR .Hammers win 1-4.
I remember those two hour sessions. It's a marathon
Flicked on...but finally cleared and that is it
Ends all square
Hate the called off goal by Kane..... no unfair advantage! Who knows when the ball was actually kicked...NO ONE ever talks about that end of the play
Over to Selhurst where Palace wrap up a 3-0 win over the Canaries.
Saints vs Spuds finished 1-1
That's it for me....gotta go on my commute...wish me luck!!
The draw at St. Mary's is a decent result providing United defeats Burnley on Thursday.
Cheers Dave. Safe travels on your commute.
I'm back for the late one now:
Leicester: Schmeichel, Castagne, Amartey, Ndidi, Thomas, Choudhury, Soumare, Dewsbury-Hall, Maddison, Vardy, Iheanacho.
Subs: Tielemans, Albrighton, Ward, Perez, Vestergaard, Lookman, Daley-Campbell, Nelson, McAteer.
Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, van Dijk, Tsimikas, Henderson, Fabinho, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Salah, Jota, Mane.
Subs: Konate, Milner, Keita, Firmino, Gomez, Jones, Kelleher, Beck, Williams.
Referee: Andre Marriner (West Midlands)
Teams in the tunnel at Filbert Street.
I'm back for the late match, chatting on the deck, viewing the mountains and the lake.
Liverpool start the match in second, with 41 points from 18 matches. A win tonight would move them within three points of Citeh at the top.
Leicester have fallen into the bottom half recently, in 11th on 22 points from 17 matches. A win today, though, would move them back up to at least 9th and possibly 8th with a sizable win.
Of course, given that it's top vs. bottom, my simple formula calls for a Liverpool away win.
Looks like a couple of regulars from each side starting on the subs bench.
Welcome back, David!
I normally wouldn't root for Pool, but a Foxes win moves them up to eight, two points behind United.
Thanks, Bob. Glad to be chatting from the deck.
Joel Matip picks up an early yellow card for breaking up a Leicester break.
Sorry, Foxes would be three points behind United. Move up to eighth place if they win by two or more goals
I'll bet - it seems like a lovely spot.
Yep - one more reason for cheering on Liverpool today.
More good pressure from Liverpool ending with a full volley from Hendo.
Both matches tomorrow ate in West London. Chelsea vs the Seagulls and the Bee's vs Citeh. The match from SB kicks off at 2:30 PM while Bee's vs Citeh kicks off at 3:15 PM
Elizabeth and Jacquelyn are shopping for a TV .Hopefully we can watch soon.
We're wrapping up our visit to Alex tonight and will probably be on the road tomorrow back down to Richmond for our third leg of the trip.
It's still a bit up in the air, as Kate's mom is a bit nervous about our visiting during the Omicron spike, so it's possible that we may just do a brief porch visit and present exchange and then drive back to WNY in time for the weekend footer.
So, are Melanie and Jacquelyn living with you full time in NC? Or just Jacquelyn?
These two drew 3-3 in the LC about ten days ago.Pool won on pens.
Penalty to Liverpool - Mo Salah brought down by Ndidi.
Just Jacquelyn. Melanie is back in San Marcos and is due to graduate in May.
Salah steps up and....it's saved by Kasper. Terrible penalty straight down the middle. He tried to follow up with a header but it was cleared off the line.
What are Melanie's plans after graduation?
Understand Kate's mother's concern. Hope you and Kate have a safe trip back to WNY. It's unusually mild here.Same in Virginia?
WOW! Unusual from Salah.
Melanie would like to be a music teacher at any grade level after graduation. She will do her student teaching starting next month
Jurgen won't be Klopping after that missed opportunity. He's not due a Salahry increase.
That's great - another teacher in the family. I'm sure that you've been an inspiration to her. I wish her the best of luck with student teaching in the spring.
Leicester haven’t had a sniff so far. But that Liverpool defence, particularly on the right with Alexander-Arnold and Matip, is susceptible to a counter-attack.
Kasper does well to save a looping header from Hendo
Thanks, Bob. That's greatly appreciated. We have tried to help the girls.
Oh - Mo Salah had a couple of chances there and finally Kasper tipped over.
Kasper appears to be keeping the Foxes in the match.
Joel Matip almost tripped his way through on goal. Just overran the ball in the end and Kasper collected.
If this result holds then Chelsea will go second with a win vs the Seagulls tomorrow.
Oh - a half chance for Jota, who hasn't really been this one. Just wide.
Into stoppage time
And I hope that they do beat the Seagulls tomorrow. But I'm also hoping that Liverpool can pull this one out.
It's 0-0 at the half. Salah missed a penalty, the main talking point of the half.
Disappointed that Pool aren't at least 1-0 up.
Second half underway from the KP.
We're underway again in the second half.
Nice desperation challenge there by Robertson.
This one could easily swing either way. It seems set up perfectly for the kind of break-away game that the Foxes play but Liverpool's pressure has been intense.
Oh - Mane should have scored there. He was played through beautifully by Jota and then blazed over when he needed more composure.
With goal hanger Vardy anything is possible. Pool seem to be the slightly better team in the match.
Keita on and The Ox off now for Pool.
Leicester swap Lookman for Choudury.
Mane again - but straight at Kasper.
GOAL! Supersub Lookman comes on and hammers home a goal to put the Foxes in front. What a turnup!
You know that Brendan Rogers enjoyed that one with particular relish.
Leicester have something to hold onto now. Liverpool make their second change: Milner on for Fabinho.
Knowing the Foxes, they will shut up shop.
The assist was from Dewsbury-Hall. Is that near your office?
Lookman is a former Toffee, so he will be especially pleased about scoring against Pool.
The Foxes move up to ninth place. They will move up to eighth if they go two up
Wasn't Lookman also at Fulham. I seem to remember him giving Leeds fits at certain points in the Championship.
Yes he was with the Cottagers last season. Now with the Foxes
I can't believe that Liverpool are going to drop all three points here.
Salah burst into the penalty there, but only won a corner.
They have five minutes plus stoppage time to get something from the match.
Oh - from the corner, Virgil had a chance at the backpost that Kasper saved.
Milner was in there but Ndidi ndid well.
It said that Kasper turned around a shot from Van Dyjck.
Rearguard action now from Leicester. You wouldn't imagine that they're playing at home.
Five minutes of stoppage time to go now.
Agreed. Doesn't sound like it.Seems like Kasper is having an Anfield blinder at the KP.
Plenty of time for an equalizer
What a scramble in the Foxes box there!
Citeh now half a dozen points clear of Pool and Chelsea.
Amartey and Ndidi have been marvelous at the heart of the Leicester defense.
Just under two minutes remaining
Looks like Kasper will be MOTM.
That's it - Leicester have pulled out an improbable win here, with Kasper and his defenders the real heroes on the night.
Leicester didn't offer much in the way of attack, as usual, but the breakaway goal by supersub Lookman was enough to grab all three points.
It's over and the Foxes have defeated Pool 1-0
Citeh have one hand on the title now.
The matches tomorrow will be more vital to you
That's it for me for today. I'll be on the road tomorrow, so will miss out on the action.
Agreed. They're half a dozen ahead in first place
Cheerio for now, David - enjoy the rest of your evening.
Cheers. Great chatting. Have a great rest of the day and a safe trip tomorrow.
Thanks, Bob.
