It's Time to Watch Football
We've made it to the weekend again, chaps, and our reward is a full day of the good stuff. It all starts with West Ham v. Newcastle on The Cock. You know I'll be blowing bubbles for a Hammers win in that one. That's followed by the traditional Saturday 3pm kickoffs, including Palace v. Chelsea on USA and Arsenal v. Brentford and Liverpool v. Norwich on The Cock. Finally, we end up on NBC for the marquee match of the weekend, City v. Spurs.
So, get up out of bed, fix yourself a cuppa and settle in, won't you?
409 Comments:
Morning, boys! The coverage on The Cock has started. Newcastle are in alarmingly good form. They've only won four matches all season but three of them have been in the last three matches. That's got to stop today, as they visit West Ham.
The teams now out at Upton Park:
West Ham United: Fabianski, Fredericks, Dawson, Zouma, Cresswell, Soucek, Rice, Bowen, Benrahma, Fornals, Antonio.
Subs: Yarmolenko, Vlasic, Areola, Noble, Diop, Johnson, Kral, Alese, Chesters.
Newcastle United: Dubravka, Krafth, Schar, Burn, Targett, Willock, Shelvey, Joelinton, Fraser, Wood, Murphy.
Subs: Dummett, Lascelles, Fernandez, Almiron, Darlow, Gayle, Longstaff, Bruno Guimaraes, De Bolle.
Referee: Chris Kavanagh (Lancashire).
And we're away in this come - come on, you Hammers!
West Ham start in fifth on 41 points from 25 matches, just two points behind United. So, a win would put them in fourth but United play tomorrow, of course.
Newcastle's situation is rather dicier. Despite those three wins, they're still 17th on 21 points from 23 matches, four points clear of Norwich in 18th.
Bright start here from Newcastle with two corners in a row and the Hammers looking really rattled.
Foul throw from Krafth - you don't see that very often.
Newcastle will miss the presence of Kieran Trippier, their new big money signing.
Bloody hell - I know that David Moyes' side likes to play on the back foot but this is ridiculous. It's Newcastle!
Clumsy from Craig Dawson on Ryan Fraser there and VAR is checking it for a potential red card. Nothing doing.
A bit better from the Hammers now with chances for Antonio. Corner won.
Joelinton tries a pop from distance but it sails well over the bar.
Zouma is still getting booed at every touch by the away fans, presumably for that awful cat video.
Oh - great chance for Bowen there - Dubravs just about touches it onto the bar and out again.
Fredericks blocks off Willocks at full gallop and picks up a yellow card.
Oh - Antonio in again but it was a tight angle. He might have looked for a cross instead.
Halfway through this first half and Eddie Howe might well be the happier manager. His side has started well and a point would move them five points clear on the same number of matches played as Norwich.
Oh - first real contribution from Chris Wood whipping in a dangerous ball that Dawson just about cleared.
Good Morning, Bob. Just woke up and have a hot pot of coffee brewing onl a chilly morning
I'm guessing you're rooting for the Hammers. IOf they win then calls for you to sing to the Toon of M.C. Hammer
Morning, David - great to have the chance to chat with you. How's your week been?
Yesterday the Cherries vs Forest was postponed due to Storm Eunice. Had you heard about that? Eunice must have been in a foul mood?
Yes, I'm definitely blowing bubbles this morning. I'm sure that you would be happier with a Toon win.
I hadn't heard that, mate. We're getting some stormy weather this morning. Basically a blizzard outside my window right now.
Thanks, Bob. It's been a great week. I completed our taxes yesterday and completed the raking of our property , so feeling good. How have you been?
GOAL ! CRAIG DAWSON GIVES THE HAMMERS THE LEAD
GOAL! You've brought us some luck, mate, as Craig Dawson nods the Hammers into the lead from a free kick!
1-0!
Free kick from cress well crossed in and Craig Dawson got to the ball first to head in
The Hammers really are lethal from set pieces.
Craig Dawson sang a Toon. He sang "Can't Touch this"
Not good luck for the two Dave's . The hammers moved ahead of United to fourth place
YIKES! The last thing you need is more snow. It was raining cats and dogs here Thursday evening. A few of the distant mountains got a light dusting of snow last night but we didn't get any
Craig Dawson was a Sledge Hammer? Is that an accurate Toon?
I like that tune! Classic MC Hammer.
That is accurate - I can tell you were an MTV fan back in the day.
Talking about a Blizzard. The Terriers are one up at Bob and Kate's. Well, dogs love the cold weather and that's a surprise at the league leaders. Terriers now in fourth place
Jarred Bowen cuts in and Du Brave saves easily at the near post
Cheers, Bob. Thought you would like that
On Wednesday , Not a Big Club vs Accrington Stanley was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Now that's what I call Not a Big Club or was it because the host were wondering who the visitors were?
Late corner chance now for the Toon. And the Hammers made a meal of clearing it.
Mt theory is that the Septic at Hillsborough was clogged. Bet you would agree with that
The Wednesday can't find a bloke to go out and poke the pitch with a pitchfork. They're a sad club.
GOAL ! IT'S A STOPPAGE TIME EQUALIZER
Bloody hell - Joe Willock has scored right on the stroke of half time. I have to admit that they deserved that.
1-1. Grrr!
IT was an uncharacteristic defensive error from Declan Rice with a really poor defensive header and Joe Willock's volley went off the inside of the post and crept inches over the line . It's 1-1 at the half
YIKES ! Terriers two up at the table topping Cottagers
Morning Boys
I am here for just a bit....I am off soon
Teams coming back out at Upton Park. Everything was going swimmingly for me up until that stoppage time goal by Joe Willock. All to play for in this second half.
Morning, Dave - busy morning for you?
Kathy and I are off to the Albany area to do a bit of shopping
None of the games excite me today
Of course, I am in the Toon corner today. A draw will do
Fredericks was really struggling in the first half and was on a card. He's been replaced by Johnson.
Sounds like a nice day out, mate. Enjoy!
Back from the bog to see it's still 1-1 at the London Stadium
Bowen had a chance there but was blocked out. Play is stopped to take care of Matt Targett who was caught by Bowen's elbow.
Good Morning, Dave. Sounds like a fun day. I feel the same as you about the match
No Nocito Curse for you this morning, then.
Did you all get a lot of rain Thursday? We did
LOL! Thankfully no. Sound like I didn't miss much
Yeah - very windy and rainy here Thursday and Friday.
I don't know if you have mentioned this already but all the matches this weekend are the reverse fixture of the opening match of the season
Is that right! Hmmm....
Let's hope it's not a repeat of the scoreline at Old Trafford. I worry that Leeds fans are starting to turn against Bielsa.
We had some rain on Thursday but our weather hasn't been that bad. It was warmer but has turned freezing again
Did you see all the weather in England with the strong winds
The O2 Arena had part of it's roof ripped up...it's now called the O1.75 Arena
I hadn't noticed that, but remember that now you brought up. well done, Dave
I saw that! Really weird weather.
LOL,Dave! Nice description.
I'm going to try and talk Kathy into going to diner for a quick breakie
We had the same effect. It was in the 60s here Thursday and this morning down to 20. A real cool down here too
That sounds lovely - we've got a nice diner in town now.
Sounds like a great way to take a break. What type of restaurant do you have in mind?
Oops! A diner. Can't go wrong with those
Ben Johnson of the Hammers and the Toon's Joe Linton down after a clash of heads.
Play resumes
Went out for dinner last night with Walt, Tom and Matt in Toga last night
Jon was just offered a job at the same company Matt works. Stewarts...a convenient store chain
Palace vs Chelsea on USA at 10 with FIVE matches on the COCK. Citeh vs the Spuds win NBC at 12:30
Soundss like a great night. Congratulations to Jon. Delighted for him
Sounds like the boys are doing well. What did you have for dinner?
Brekkies has arrived - homemade coffee cake and fruit salad to complement my tea.
I just get my normal boring burger...I like burgers!
Matt is a suit in the auditing department
Jon will be working in the plant working with gas distribution...something like that
A big relief that all three boys will fully employed
Disappointing from Antonio - he's been rubbish today.
We like Burgers too. There are several places here that excel in Burgers for whenever you all come our way
I love a good burger.
We haven't had Jacquelyn look for a job since moving here due to Omnicron. I know cases are down, but want to wait another month or two since hardly anyone wears masks here
Typical David Moyes substitution here. Yamolenko on for Benrahma.
Benrahama isn't happy
Benhrama Said thatches' being pickled off by Vlasic. We love pickle on our burgers
Really tedious match now - I just can't see West Ham as a Champions League side - they're just not good enough.
I noticed that. Benhrama knows the English swear words as does Moyes. Elizabeth and I had a good laugh about that
Ryan Fraser with a cynical one there on Vlasic. Yellow for him.
I don't think the Hammers will be a Cl side. I think they will be an EL side again, which is a tremendous achievement for a club their size
Wee Ryan sure pickled. Is yellow the color of the card or the pickle
Pretty much like for like . Wee ryan hobbles off and is replaced by Almiron
I just checked. and we have have rain in the forecast every day Monday through Friday. How about you two?
Based on this score. The Hammers are in fifth place, a point behind United.. Toon five points clear of the drop zone , behind the Toffees on goal difference and a pint behind Leeds
I loved that Fraser was clapping the fans and they were booing him off. LOL!
Snow and wind today
rain and warming up a bit I think
then getting colder and snow
Joe Linton down with cramp and my Howe Eddie doesn't want to sub him at this point
Dave, sounds similar to the system we will have but we're not getting the snow. Thankfully sunny here today and tomorrow
Newcastle bringing on their record signing now for a late cameo.
What are West Ham playing at? I'm thoroughly bored. No urgency at all.
Bruno Guimares on for Joe Willock
Bobby reid, with an assist by Pool loanee, Neco Williams pulls it back to 1-2 vs the Terriers at Bob and Kate's place
Bruno de Guimaraes coming on then. It'll be interesting to get a bit of a look at him. Certainly, Chris Wood has not been pulling up any trees for them.
Agreed, Bob. This has been dreadful second half. But for the banter and chilly weather, I'd go out for a walkabout
Come on Toon...don't concede
United to stay in fourth
Four stoppage time minutes to come. Hoping that the Hammers can find a stoppage time goal.
LOL!, Bob. Nice tree reference. Chris can't see the forest for the trees?
Terriers still winning at Bob and Kate's late on
5 added minutes
Up to a quintet of stoppage time minutes. Too bloody much time!
Craig Dawson heads out unnecessarily for a Late Toon corner
Corner cleared by the Hammers
The linesman looks like a high school student. Dave, is he one of the students you tutor?
Well, that was not a good start from Guimaraes. Had a chance to break but just piddled about with the ball.
I hate all this laying down
He's off the field so carry on...GET UP
It's all kicked off now as Dan Byrne goes in on Bowen and the West Ham man isn't too pleased.
Jarrod BBowen doesn't want to feel the Burn as he stupidly try to p[ick a fight with the 6 ft 8 inch fullback. Not a wise choice
It's over and it finishes 1-1 which is a better result for the Toon
That's it
Whistle goes and Magpies get a point and the Hammers drop two
That's it, then. The spoils are shared. Not pleased at all with that.
Looks more and more like the bottom three have pretty much been decided unless one of them goes on a late season run
My cousin just told me that the Pompey's match at Crewe has been postponed late because of a waterlogged pitch
Kathy just said we could get six inches!
Ruddy Norah
The three numpties were in LA last week and in the Sky Sports studio this week. Did Eunice force them indoors?
Blackburn vs the Evil Lions postponed due to a snow covered pitch
YIKES! I guess we won't complain about all the rain we're getting this week
Back for the 10 AM matches. Palace vs Chelsea win USA with five matches on the COCK
Terriers won 1-2 at the table topping Cottagers
That's it for me boys
Walt may be coming over tomorrow for the Uniteds Clash
TTFN
Cheers, Dave. Great chatting. Enjoy the rest of the day and look forward to chatting tomorrow.
Not sure if anyone is around but I'm going twitch the match from Anfield as the match on USA doesn't appeal to me. There should be goals in this match
I'm back from a refreshing shower to follow the 10 am kickoffs. I'll be tuning into the Arsenal v. Brentford match, hoping that the Gunners can exact some revenge for that opening match of the season.
Welcome back. That's a good choice too. Sorry, Steve but I'm rooting for the Bees. The Gunners will be a point behind United with a win
They're off from Anfield
The Canaries attack from the off.Pukki gifted possession and played it wide right to max Aarons those cross was tipped over by alison. Would have just gone in under the bar
Poo counter from the Canaries corner and now the Canaries under the cosh
Salah shoots over from the corner of the box off a pass from Hendo.
We're away at the Emirates - here are the teams:
Arsenal: Ramsdale, Cedric, White, Gabriel, Tierney, Odegaard, Partey, Xhaka, Saka, Lacazette, Smith Rowe. Subs: Leno, Holding, Tomiyasu, Pepe, Tavares, Sambi Lokonga, Elneny, Nketiah, Hutchinson.
Brentford: Raya, Ajer, Jansson, Pinnock, Canos, Jensen, Norgaard, Da Silva, Henry, Mbeumo, Wissa. Subs: Ghoddos, Onyeka, Baptiste, Janelt, Sorensen, Roerslev, Stevens, Fernandez, Young-Coombes.
Referee: Jonathan Moss (County Durham)
GOAL ! No Rashica scored with a great finish , but it was disallowed for offside off a pass from Lees-Melou. Nice through ball.
Arsenal on the front foot right from the off.
Rashica wins a corner off Van Dijck. Allison punches away the corner from Happy Gilmour
End to end stuff at Anfield
You can keep an eye on the affairs at Anfield for me.
OH! Tsmikas slides in at the far post and his half volley from two yards out lands in Row H off a nice run and cross from Salah who was well played in by Mane
Yes. I will. It's a really entertaining start to the match at Anfield
First attack for the Bees and a looping cross just about caught out Ramsdale.
The Reading Railroad takes a much needed lead at PNE and move four points clear of the drop zone
Oh - Laca seemed to be sandwiched there but the referee waves on. Saka fires into the side netting.
Tractor Boys take the lead vs Richard Burton and are now three points outside a playoff spot. Cheltenham takes the lead at Wycombe who are now below a playoff spot on goal difference
Bristol City takes the lead vs the Teesiders . That's not idle gossip
IN L2 Northants two up vs Colchester. Sutton up to fifth place as they take the lead at Jeff's lads in a battle of newly promoted teams. Good debut season for Sutton
Two big penalties shouts there for the Gunners. Jon Moss waves them off. No VAR check?
Tangerines take the lead at Cardiff
Of course, Brentford start merely a point ahead of my beloved Leeds in 14th.
It's been all Pool the last few minutes with the Canaries defending resolutely. Now Pool wins a corner
corner from Rtsmikas headed away but the Canaries can't get the ball back
Ah - Laca has it in the net but he's flagged off. Poor from him - he should have been able to maintain his position.
Nice cross from Mane and Angus Gunn at full length pushes away a header from Van Dijck. Nice athletic save
The nice thing is that Brentford will also have played three more matches than both Everton and Leeds after today's match.
I missed that one but read an almost identical comment on LaCazette.com
OH! The Canaries should have taken the lead against the run of play. Cross headed out then a nice through ball from Brandon Williams found Pukki who beat the offside trap and shot wide with just Allison to beat
Liverpool need to pull their fingers out.
OH! Angus Gunn finger tipped a cross from Salah then Luis Diaz cut in and Gunn superbly tippled over his shot
Evil Blades take the lead vs the Swans and are up to sixth place. I know you will not be pleased about that
Brum takes the lead at the Potters
Jon Moss is letting a lot go and the Gooners at the Emirates are not happy with it.
Salah tus his through two players Dalglish style , schooling Brandon williams then his shot blocked for a corner
Not happy to hear the Evil Blades have been in sharp form of late.
OH! Header from salah off the corner headed off the line by Kenny McLean. leads to another corner
Then you will be even more angry. Evil Blades now two up
Arsenal trying to walk it in again - I'd like to see some shooting practice.
Reading Railroad two up at PNE
Burnley takes the lead at the AMEX. Sorry, mate! Burnley now second from bottom, but five points from safety
Finally Partey has a pop from distance but it goes well wide.
Two recent signings combined. Weghorst with his first Burnley goal and Connor Roberts with the assist
That's not good - Martin Weghorst, Burnley's new striker, has scored his first goal for the Clarets against Brighton.
A win for Burnley would bring them up above Watford into 19th on 17 points but still with a couple of matches in hand on most of their opposition in the relegation area.
Oldham moves out of the L2 drop zone for the first time this season. They are two up vs Bradford . Carlisle now in the drop zone as they are 0-1 down vs Swindon, who move into a playoff spot
Scunny still bottom despite being one up vs Rochdale a who are are only three points clear of the drop zone
I'm more than a bit worried by the recent form of the relegation threatened sides. Burnley have earned three draws recently, Norwich have had a couple of wins of late and Newcastle have earned three wins and two draws.
Tierney wins a corner for the Arsenal. Come on!
Forest green well clear top of L2, but one down vs Wasall
Agreed, Bob. It's going to be a real dogfight in the drop zone this year
Potters tie it up vs Brum. Tigers take the lead at fifth placed QPR
Sounds like Liverpool are starting to turn the screw. Come on, you Reds!
Wycombe tie sit up vs Cheltenham and now replace Arguyle in the final L1 playoff spot.
Oh - now Martin Odegaard has a go and it's turned around by the keeper.
Oxford two up at Charlton and are now fourth in L1
That's correct. Pool dominating with the Canaries under the cosh
Pontus off for a bit of treatment now.
I now know Wout you think about the goal at the Amex. Not Wout you wanted
I know you will wish the best for your old mate,. Pontus
Oh - great ball over from Cedric and Laca nearly turned Pontus in a tight space. Corner.
Wycombe now lead Cheltenham 2-1 and are now up to fourth place in L1
Sergeant Josh down for the Canaries. Beer Holder will be hoping it's not a serious injury
Wycombe now lead Cheltenham 3-1
Angus Gunn does well to turn around a shot from Luis diaz off a pass from Tsmikas after Hendo won tackle
Oh - more pressure from the Gunners and Ben White hits a bobbly one that Raya collects.
Van Dijck with a goal disallowed for offside. Was well off the day after Dick's 96th birthday. Came after Hendo blocked a shot from his own teammate off the corner
