Nations League Friday!
Who's up for some meaningless Nations League friendlies on a Friday afternoon? There's no coverage of the big one between England and Italy, but FS1 has coverage of the Germany v. Hungary match from 2:45pm onward. I'll be around and about monitoring the matches on Five Live and The Guardian blog. Join me if you're starved of footie action.

Afternoon, chaps - here's the team news out of the San Siro tonight:
Italy: Donnarumma, Di Lorenzo, Bonucci, Acerbi, Toloi, Cristante, Jorginho, Dimarco, Raspadori, Scamacca, Barella.
Subs: Meret, Vicario, Luiz Felipe, Pobega, Frattesi, Gnonto, Emerson, Zerbin, Grifo, Gabbiadini, Esposito, Bastoni.
England: Pope, James, Dier, Maguire, Walker, Bellingham, Rice, Sterling, Foden, Saka, Kane.
Subs: Ramsdale, D Henderson, Trippier, Shaw, Grealish, Coady, Ward-Prowse, Tomori, Mount, Bowen, Alexander-Arnold, Abraham.
Referee: Jesús Gil Manzano (Spain).
Both teams are coming off the back of a hiding – England defeated 4-0 by Hungary, Italy spanked 5-2 in Germany – so there are plenty of changes. Gareth Southgate makes six, with Eric Dier picking up his first cap since November 2020, Harry Maguire returning despite not starting any of Manchester United’s last four Premier League matches, Nick Pope standing in for the injured Jordan Pickford, and Declan Rice, Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden also starting. Roberto Mancini makes seven changes, with Chelsea midfielder Jorginho returning, and West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca taking the place of the injured Ciro Immobile.
God Save the King sung for the first time
Great coverage on 5Live
According to the BEEB the lady who sang both national anthems... she sang GSTK in a gown...then the Italian anthem started and she ripped off the gown and had a full Italy kit on!
Nice minute of silence for the Queen

England desperately need a win
We don't want to see them relegated
Still scoreless in Germany
Not sure what we want to happen there.
The table before we kicked off
Hungary 7. +4
Germany 6 +3
Italy 5 -2
England 2 -5
Italy are threatening.England getting pushed back by a very weak Azure
Maguire has been iffy already
"he has a lot of improving to do"
Stones is suspended for this match after being sent off at Wolves in the 0-4 loss to Hungary
I read the other day that Reece James is the best right back but TAA should start vs Iran because they will sit back and TAA would be a better crosser of the ball and creator of chances
Good Afternoon Bob and Dave. Here to join you for the NL matches
England have done nowt so far
Hi David
I am here until I have to pick up Kathy
I wish Foden would play more central and create from there
Maguire has a header on target but an easy save for Donna...
England wearing their new hideous white shirts and dark blue shorts. I like the different colors...hate all one!
Italy all in blue
Hello Dave. Listening to England on 5 Live and watching Germany vs Magyars on FS1
England needs to win tonight or else they will be relegated from League A.
GOAL! MAGYARS TAKE THE LEAD IN GERMANY
Hiya, boys - thanks for the Leeds link, Dave!
One nil Hungary!!!
Cheeky back heeled volley by Szalai off a corner
Hi Bob
England have settled after that shaky start.
Good Afternoon, Bob
I'd prefer to see Germany win - I hate the Hungarian regime under Viktor Orban.
If these results hold then the Magyars will have clinched the Group. Will they qualify for the four team tournament?
If it stays that way...Hungary could win the group vs German, Italy and England!! Everyone thought they were the whipping boys of the group
That match played in Leipzig . Several of the Magyar players play for Leipzig
I sure favored the Magyars to be relegated. The Three Lions now favorites for that
Group winners in all four levels of the NL qualify for the Euro's playoff round if needed
That would really help Hungary
Two internationals in Germany today
That doesn't happen often outside of tournament football
I know that there's a four team tournament for the four League A winners . Is that tournament still going to be played?
Come on England
Come on England
Come on England
Agreed, Dave. US plays in Spain on Tuesday while Spain will be playing in neighboring Portugal that day
Must win for England on Tuesday of these results hold. I think England avoid relegation Tuesday if these results hold and they win on Tuesday since head to head is the first tiebreaker
This and the Germany matches are the last two before the WC
Teams won't get any time together before it starts
I don't like that arrangement . I wonder of that weill affect the quality of the WC tournament
Middle school, antics in Leipzig. Supporters throwing balls of notebook paper at the Magyar corner taker

tilted view
Forget it
It runs out
James has failed to make the cross more times than not
That's why I think TAA should play against Iran
Hopefully defending will be at a minimum for that match
Kane has a shot...over the bar
Italy have done nowt - they're rubbish. You're at home, for goodness sake!
I think all three of England's opens in the group will be playing defensively. I would be surprised if I'm wrong about that
From what I'm hearing both team this match are playing poorly. Italy showing why they failed to qualify for the WC
50,000 + people there
Only 2/3 full
4000+ England fans
It's 0-0 at the half in Milan
HT in Rome and it is FT from me
I am off to pick up Kathy when the second half starts
TTFN
Into a minute of stoppage time in Leipzig
Sorry, Rome ,. not Milan
Have a safe drive, Dave
Magyars one up at the half in Leipzig
Just a reminder that Three Lions vs Germany on FS 1 on Monday at 2:45 P.M. and U.S. vs Saudis on FS1 on Tuesday at 2 PM
Cheerio, Dave!
Thanks for that program note, David. I should be able to join in during my Office Hours on Monday.
No. I was correct. It is Milan.
Cheers, Bob. Glad that helped.
No changes from Gareth at the half.
Second halves underway from Milan and Leipzig
The announcer says that a pass was from the first half play book. Straight out of play
Dier clear in the nick of time as Cristante just failed to connect to give Italy the lead then skipper, Bonucci booked for a foul on Sterling just outside the Italian box
Free kick from Reese James well over.
Shot from Harry Kane blocked by Bonucci for an England corner
England nearly took the lead Rodrigo Tolloi nearly scored an OG . Went out for a corner a foot wide of the goal
Germany nearly tied it up. Long range shot went off the side netting beating the keeper.
BUGGER! ITALY TAKE THE LEAD. RASPRADORI WITH THE GOAL
Nice finish off a long ball from Bonucci . Poor defending by Kyle Walker.
As things stand the Three Lions will be relegated at the end of this match
Jack Grealish on for Saka and Luke Shaw in for a Walker named Kyle as Southgate makes a double substitution.
As things stand the Magyars will win the group and the Three lions will be relegated tonight. That would make the match at wembley on Monday basically meaningless.
Half a dozen stoppage time minutes in Milan. A quintet in Leipzig
Jack Grealish has talked himself into the book. Will be suspended for the match on Monday vs Germany. Rudiger also suspended for that match
Hay Jude ! Bellingham with a free header from seven yards out well over and that may do it.
It's over in Leipzig. Magyars win 0-1 and have won the group.
It's over in Milan and Italy win 1-0. England have been relegated and will be a second seed in Euro qualifying.
That's it for me. Look forward to chatting on Monday.
CHEERS!
Not a great day for the England boys, who have been relegated to the B level of the Nations League, for what that means.
