Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Shake-up at Elland Road

As you have no doubt already heard, Leeds United sacked its manager Kevin Blackwell yesterday, and not before time. I thought Blackwell had done a reasonable job consolidating the team's position in the Coke and preventing a drop down the divisions or a financial melt-down, but it's clear that he's not going to lead the side into the Premiership. So, he had to go.

The question then becomes "who will take his place?" With Ken Bates in charge at Leeds now, you'd imagine that some old Chelski names may pop up including Glenn Hoddle, Claudio Ranieri and - God forbid! - Dennis Wise, who's languishing at Swindon. Top of the list, however, as he is with most vacant jobs today, is the former Charlton manager Alan Curbishley. I'd admire Curbs for what he did with Charlton, but I'm not sure that he's got the ambition to really take Leeds to the next level. My dream boss would be wee Gordon Strachan; however, I can't imagine his chucking in the job at Celtic to take a job at a side second from bottom in the Coke.

Any thoughts?

I've just heard on World Soccer Daily that second bottom in the Coke (Second Division) is the lowest ever league position in the club's history. No wonder Blackwell got the sack.

In other Coke news, the QPR job has been filled by the ex-Villa manager John Gregory. So there's at one club that will finish below us!

Just am watching Skysports News
The bookies odds are as follows.
Dennis Wise 5/2
Alan Curbishley 9/2
Claudio Ranieri 7/1
Glen Hoddle 10/1
Steve Cotterill 20/1
Laurie Sanchez 20/1
Mike Newell 20/1

Not sure about most of them.
Eddie Gray said he thought of the name Gary McCallister. An ex- Leeds player who did well as a manager with Coventry before he retired to take care of his sick wife. His wife died and Gray wondered if he would get back into management.

Your thoughts?

Actually I'd quite like Gary McAllister - at least better than the others mentioned.
