Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

It's some Boer War reference. Spion Kop or something like that. Why? No clue.
Davey, is this true?
During last week's Champions League outing, David Pleat remarked that Saha had missed a chance easier than Saha's missus? Goodness, that's a bit OTT.
You're nearly there. It is a reference to the Boer War and "Spion Kop." So, the only questions left are "What is Spion Kop?" and "What does it have to do with Liverpudlians?" Good start though.
Steve is exactly right. It was named in memory of many scousers who died trying to take a hill with the name Spion Kop
There are other Kops I believe in England aren't there? Why Scousers? They were particularly likely to get presses into the Army? This is a puzzler.
Yes, Dave finished it up there. During the Boer War a contingent of the British army made up of mainly Liverpudlians took a hill called "The Spion Kop" ("kop" is Afrikans for "hill") in a battle that turned the war for the British Empire; the stand at Anfield was named in their honor.
There are indeed other Kops around the country, albeit less famous. In fact there's a Kop at Elland Road named in honor of the Yorkshiremen who were part of the unit.
The English must have taken a hell of a beating in that battle for it to have made such a lasting impression. I'll have to read up on my Boer War history.
