Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Saturday's Okay

It's another Saturday morning with an intriguing program of Premiership and Coke matches. KC is trying to drag me off to the yoga but I'm putting ten men behind the ball in resistance. Wish me luck, lads! And join me in watching Liverpool vs. Reading, won't you?

My Leeds boys are playing away to Barnsley who are second-bottom, so it's a relegation dogfight with six points on the line for us. We need a win.

Fulham have held off Everton 1-0 for a surprise win thanks to a goal from Klaus Jensen. I had them being relegated this year but Chris Coleman has done miracles with them this season.

With Chelski and the Arse playing tomorrow, United have the chance to set the pace this weekend. But they'll have to be as good as they were last weekend to top 'Arry's Pompey boys.

Blimey, Rooney's already won a penalty for United in the opening stages and Saha has fired home - ManYoo 1-0 up.

I don't believe my eyes. We're playing a 4-3-3 away from home with Horse, Healey and Robbie Blake all leading the charge. Well done, Wisey!

Bottom of the league Watford have taken a surprise lead against Boro through Bouazza.

That Watford goal will increase the pressure on Glenn Roeder as Newcastle now drop into the relegation zone.

Skippy the Winker has stuck in a free kick for United's second against Portsmouth.

And suddenly Wolves are 2-0 against Southend. Thank you very much.

Liverpool score a well-worked goal. Cross from Stevie G., knock down from Crouchie and Kuyt is there to stick it home. Liverpool 1 Reading 0.

That Kuyt goal has moved Liverpool up two places to seventh and suddenly the table is starting to look a little more ordinary.

Wolves are now 3-0 up against Southend. Where was that form when they did us over in the Carling last week?

10:36 AM

Reading look really ordinary with Bobby Convey as an outlet wide left. That Stephen Hunt bloke is obviously only good for kneeing goalkeepers in the head.

The Baggies have taken the lead away to Derby. They look good for a promotion spot.

Ah bollocks, Barnsley have taken the lead apparently against the run of play against Leeds and leapfrogged over us in the table as a result. We're second bottom again!

Thankfully Palace have stuck one in away to QPR. That'll help but we need to get something from Barnsley.

Charlton have taken the lead against Citeh and have moved off the bottom. Now it's the Blades at rock bottom. I like the look of that.

QPR have leveled it against Palace - 1-1

Sheff. Wed. have taken the lead against Leicester. Shame.

10:49 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yes! We're back in it - Barnsley 1 Leeds 1

10:54 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

And Palace have stuck a second in against QPR - this is looking up. We're up out of the drop zone again.

10:55 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Ooh, Kuyt should've scored his second there. A header just past the post.

Half time whistles going across the country, with the big boys doing well so far and my boys hanging in there against Barnsley. At least we didn't roll over when that first goal went in.

10:58 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yes! Robbie Blake has stuck in a second for us just before the half and now we've hopped over QPR into fifth bottom.

Any halftime comments, lads?

Second half starting.....

Wow, Colchester have taken the lead against Coke leaders Cardiff. That'll tighten up the table at the top.

Checking in again, I see that somehow Leeds has managed to snatch defeat from victory again. Sorry 'bout that one Bob. I'm hanging on to see Bolton go down again. Nice one Mr. Jewell and co.

What did Liverpool look like?

12:06 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Yes David, you guys were predictably victorious. I had it down 2-0 to you at the start of the day.

Making it worse for Bob's Leeds, I see QPR came back to win. Miserable day for him.

Liverpool? Typical look. Red shirts, shorts, socks. You know.

Sorry to bail out on the thread like that lads. I've been fighting off some kind of bug for the past day or so, so when the goals starting going in for Barnsley I took it as a sign that I should take to bed and sleep off the rest of the day.

Looking forward to the matches tomorrow. Will you be watching the MLS semi final between Gooner's D.C. United and my scrappy NE Revolution? Hope so. It's on at 4 p.m. tomorrow.
