Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Respect Yourself!

Good God almighty! PBS is ditching their usual fare of "Antiques Roadshow" to bring a truck-load of soul into our homes this week as they celebrate fifty years of the vaunted Stax Records label out of Memphis, TN. Gooner's had the privilege of actually visiting the studios while I'm the proud owner of a ten-disc set of Stax singles, so I'll be glued. It's called "Respect Yourself" and is part of the "Great Performances" series, airing first on Wednesday night at 10 p.m. Enjoy!

Nice pix of a teenage Booker and the MGs boyo.

Yes, I can recommend a trip to Memphis for sure. There's Stax, there's Sun Records, there's Graceland, and the Gibson Guitar Museum too.

I've got to do Memphis some day. What with the musical history and the ribs, I'll be in heaven.

Yeah, I always like the old pics of Steve Cropper looking all clean cut. The dude looks like "The Wolfman" these days.

This year Cleveland, maybe Memphis next.
