Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

I am here. I am watching my sister TV through Skype.
I am nervous but it great to watch Sky
Morning, Dave! Here are the sides for today:
Teams
Liverpool: Reina, Arbeloa, Riise, Hyypia, Carragher, Mascherano, Gerrard, Benayoun, Kewell, Torres, Kuyt.
Subs: Itandje, Babel, Crouch, Aurelio, Lucas.
Man Utd: Van der Sar, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Ronaldo, Hargreaves, Anderson, Giggs, Rooney, Tevez.
sorry that I forgot two 's in my last comment
Liverpool are unchanged from Wednesday's destruction of Marseilles.
I still think Marseilles threw that match. Your thoughts?
Why would they?
Never Walk Alone being sung at Anfield as the teams come out
Bloody hell, what are Skysports doing? Teams coming out and they go to commercial
They're finally back and it's kick off time. United are kicking of going from right to left. That means Liverpool will NOT be going towards the Kop in the second half.
And we're off.
United in black
I take that all back. United are going from left to right so Liverpool will be going towards the Kop in the second half. They must have won the toss.
We're off - a prediction from you for the score? I reckon a 1-1 draw.
My connection is not brilliant at the moment. The sound has gone a bit wonky. My sister better get back from her errands soon.
I'll take that.
Of course, a last minute winner by O'shea wouldn't be too bad!!!
Vidic has already got a stern lecture from the ref after dragging down Torres. Free kick to Pool.
Not much happening so far
It wasn't much.
Liverpool have had some long distant shots but that is it.
Sounds like your lot are kicking lumps out of Pool so far.
NEVER
Shot by Torres, easy for VDS
Evra brings down Benayoun and gets a yellow
Ronaldo gets hacked down
Same old Skippy - always diving!
The sound is pretty bad so Debs is tuning in Five Live and I am watching Sky
HACKED DOWN
You've got a nice sister there, lad.
Viscious tackle by Gerard but of course no booking
Some argy bargy between Riise and Hargreaves
A bit of confusion in the United box. Torres should have gotten a shot on target.
Evra runs into the advertisements trying to get a cross over.
He is up now
I wonder who is watching Torres house for today's match? He must be next on the list.
Brown pulls down Kewell and is in the book
Five bookings so far
I am now listening to Alan Green.
Long shot chance for Stevie 35 yrds out
Shot gets deflected and goes wide
back to Martin Tyler
The radio is delayed so I had them turn it off.
Corner to United
TEVEZ SCORES!!!!!
Corner hit to the top of the box for Rooney to hit. Tevez knocks it in from the shot. I think it was a shot.
Man on the line kept Tevez onside.
In the last minute of the half
Come on United, hold this lead til half
You've got to love Carlito, eh Dave?
Just saw the replay. Tevez was even with the keeper and then there was a man on the line.
Here's how 365 described the goal:
"GOAL TEVEZ - Giggs rolls the corner out to Rooney on the edge and amazingly nobody picks him up. Rooney's low shot finds Tevez six yards out and he turns it past Reina and into the Liverpool net."
Half time
ONE NIL TO UNITED!!!!
Lovely Jubbly
Now to the studio guests. LA Galaxy manager RUUD, 'Appy 'Arry's boy Jamie and Andy Gray.
Great panel, but I hate Sky. Hate them.
Why? Murdoch?
No comment about United winning?
YOU BUGGER
They are coming out for the second half. Come on United, get another one.
They are off
Gerard with an early shot saved by VDS
If this score were to hold up I don't think it would be decisive for the championship but I do think that it would be the death of Liverpool's title hopes.
Yeah, I hate Sky because of Rupert and his domination of the media. I also just have an instinctive love for the BBC as a public broadcaster and lots of warm memories of Match of the Day.
I would hope so
Me too but I am being very selfish. I wouldn't be able to see anything if it wasn't for him
Torres tries to dive for a pen.
Nothing given
Gerrard misses a chance
Kewell picks out a late-arriving Gerard and he gets it all wrong and hits it miles wide
It's certainly the case that there's more footie about because of Sky and Murdoch but I'd be just as happy with one live match each weekend and a good quality highlights show like MOTD on Saturday night. Did you watch Fulham vs. Newcastle? I nearly fell asleep. There are probably too many poor live games on each week.
Hargreaves "fouls" Gerrard. Free kick chance from the center about 5 yrds outside the D
Blocked by the wall
I couldn't really see it but the computer said it was handball by Owen
Probably time for a change from Rafa. I'd go with Crouch on for Kuyt, who I think is rubbish anyway, but Rafa seems to for Babbel these days.
I know but I keep thinking about me having to listen to BBC World Service to hear the scores.
I might have Kewell off for Babbel too.
Yeah, it's a fair point. Auntie Beeb just doesn't have the dosh to be able to buy up the rights to all of those matches at this point. At the same time, all of that money in the game produces a lot of the problems that we complain about.
Liverpool make a change.
Kewell off and Babel on
Masherano into the book for dissent. I don't like that guy at all. He's a water carrier.
That was one of my picks. I'd have Crouchie on too to give Rio and Vidic something to think about.
Everyone things he is so important to Costa Del Pool. I don't see it
Soccernet is stunned that Kuyt is still on and Crouch is still on the bench
Corner for Costa
A bit of a scramble and cleared
United break but it comes to nothing
Costa haven't really created much
Either have United
It's that everyone assumes that you need a defensive midfield destroyer in order to win or else you're being tactically naive. I expect that'll be the way that England set up under Capello, unfortunately.
It's clear that United have come in order to execute a smash and grab and soak up the pressure and it's working. United's back five is certainly the best defensive unit in the country.
From 365: "Into the final 20 minutes and United still hang onto that precious lead given to them by Tevez just before the break. They've hardly been out of their own half since the interval though."
I don't think United are sitting back. Liverpool aren't pegging us back either. We just aren't creating much.
Hargreaves has a shot deflected over the bar.
Corner
Cleared
Crouch is finally on for Kuyt
Babel came really close. Hits it wide
It's about time. The lad makes things happen.
This is not like last season's game. Liverpool aren't peppering United's goal
Rooney misses a great chance
Rooney should have scored!!! He was about six yards out. Reina came out to make it hard but he should have put it away.
Costa with a corner.
Cleared.
United are getting some chances on the break
I guess Roon was about 10 yards out not six
About 8 minutes of the 90 left
Tevez coming off for Carrick.
Attacking move by Sir Fergie
Liverpool come close
Chance for Costa to put a free kick into the box. Cleared
Into the 88th minute. Costa are pinning United back a bit but no real problems
Into extra time at this point.
Hyypia is playing as a striker now.
Three minutes of added time starting now
Free kick chance again for Costa just outside the box
Come on, into the wall again please!!!
O'Shea comes on to waste time
Gerrard misses it over the crossbar
Liverpool fans are leaving!!!
Almost over
That's got to be the last chance for Pool.
That's it!!!!
United are coming away from Anfield with another win!!!
Is Rafa in trouble?
Congratulations on a big, big win for you lot. Rafa's definitely in trouble because they're certainly out of the title race now.
I'm in the shower now before the other big match. I'll checking in and out during the Arsenal vs. Chelski as my wireless isn't working today and I do want to watch this one. Hope it's a cracker!
Rio is Sky man of the match
Ruud is saying that Liverpool didn't really create anything
Torres didn't do much at all
Thanks,
Speak to you later
Here are the teams for Arsenal-Chelski:
Arsenal: Almunia, Sagna, Toure, Gallas, Clichy, Eboue, Flamini, Fabregas, Rosicky, Hleb, Adebayor.
Subs: Lehmann, Senderos, Van Persie, Silva, Bendtner.
Chelsea: Cech, Ferreira, Alex, Terry, Ashley Cole, Wright-Phillips, Obi, Makelele, Lampard, Joe Cole, Shevchenko.
Subs: Cudicini, Pizarro, Kalou, Ben-Haim, Belletti.
I was surprised to see Fabregas' name on the teamsheet because I think it might be a bit early for him to be risked, but the Arsenal midfield is clicking along sweetly with him in the side. They're a joy to watch.
There's definitely an edge to this match. Adebayor is the first of probably many to come going into Alan Wiley's book today for a nasty challenge on Alex.
More argy bargy between Terry and Fabregas here and it's all getting a bit ridiculous. There has been sporadic football but a lot of nonsense so far. I can't fault Alan Wiley - he's kept things relatively simple but the two sets of players really just need to settle down. Terry and Lamps in the book now.
Now Eboue has picked up the fourth yellow of the match for catching JT. Terry's hobbled off and it looks as if Ben Haim is going to take his place. More bad injury news for Avram Grant.
This has got to be a dream come true day for you, Dave? You sneak a good win at Anfield earlier and now your two main rivals are kicks the stuffing out of each other.
GOAL! And it's Gallas who capitalizes on a big mistake from Cech. It was an innocuous looking corner from Fabregas and Cech just seemed to lose it in the air. Gallas ghosted in behind him and planted a firm header into an empty net.
And that's the half-time whistle.
The second half is starting up...
That goal is exactly what this match needed. You'd have to think that Chelsea would have to come out and play. They clearly came to nullify the pretty passing game of Arsenal but that's not going to be good enough now. They have to actually score a goal.
The bad news for Arsenal fans is that Eboue is being stretchered off the park after a vicious tackle by Joe Cole.
The good news is the return of Robin van Persie.
Van Persie has the ball in the net but the play had already been flagged offside. That would have been curtains for the Blues.
It's all happening at the end of this match.
First Cech redeems himself with a double save from RVP and Fabregas. Cesc really should have scored but he drove it into Cech instead of a simple side foot.
Then Sheva misses a golden opportunity with a weak header.
And then Adebayor slots home but is called offside.
I wish the whole game had been like this!
It all ends with a flurry of chippiness with Fabregas rugby tackling Cashley and Cashley striking the Spaniard in the face. They probably should have both been sent off there but the referee yellow carded Fabregas and quickly blown the whistle before things got too out of hand. Whew!
Full-time: A fairly boring and niggly affair overall for the neutrals but Arsenal fans won't worry about that.
It has to be said that these two results today have removed Chelsea and Liverpool from contention - it's a two horse race. But we kind of knew that already, didn't we?
A very well deserved win for Arsenal.
I was rooting for them so it would be a two horse race. I am not sure if Chelsea are completely out of it but I think Costa Del Pool could be done.
Congrats Steve. Let's have a ding dong battle all season!!!
Just noted that perhaps Cole was not booked at the end because he was already on a yellow and really both would have had to go there.
But if Cole's punch is not noted in the ref's report and the FA decides to review the video, well who am I to stand in the way of a 3-match ban for the irredeemable chav tosser.
Wahey! A win against Chelsea.
I agree - he should have gone. Straight red. There's no excuse for striking another player and it was a clear thing.
Still, a good day for you and Davey. Congrats!
I agree with all points.
Did you see this?
Football fans are snapping up toasters in club colours which brand slices of bread with their team's initials. Ipswich sold out of the £45 appliance in only two days. (Mirror)
Excellent - make mine an LUFC with marmalade.
Btw, be sure to catch the highlights from Wigan vs. Blackburn. It's quite a spectacle. Eight goals, two hat-tricks, one dodgy sending off and Sparky doing his nut on the touchline. My favorite moment: when Roque Santa Cruz scores his third, he heads straight for the crowd, grabs a Santa hat and does a walkabout with it on. Classic!
