Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

On the Ball!

Ah, Saturday again, and another cracking day in English footie. We've got a full program of Premiership fixtures, the Leeds boys really need to find a win today against lowly Crewe and I would luv it if you'd join me for the festivities.

And already we've had plenty of drama. Brum have a last gasp penalty as Parnaby is hauled down in the box. And that match has ended 2-2. Two dropped points for Arsene Wenger's side, you'd have to think.

9:52 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Interestingly, Theo Walcott scored both of Arsenal's goals and James McFadden scored both of Brum's, including that last second pen. It's a crucial point for Brum who were inching toward relegation.

Next up is Fulham vs. West Ham. London derby or clash of the Yanks - you make your mind up.

9:54 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

From 365: "It's all over at St Andrews and Birmingham, who played virtually all the match with just ten men, have snatched a point at the death thanks to James McFadden's last-gasp penalty. Arsenal look absolutely dejected with Gallas sat alone on the pitch. He should be angry with his side because they had plenty of opportunities to kill this game off but they spurned them and paid the ultimate price."

Sorry, Gooner.

Morning Bob.

I am obviously pleased with that last minute goal by the Blues.

Bad injury for Eduardo in the first three minutes. A multiple leg break!!

That is horrible. It was so bad the TV didn't show the replays of it

Morning, Dave. Yes, it's the anniversary of Bobby Moore's death. Nice touch for a match at Craven Cottage, though. Did he ever play for Fulham. I always associate him with West Ham.

Sad news for Eduardo. He's a good young player and that sounds like he'll lose a season. How did it happen?

10:09 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Yes, he played for Fulham after his West Ham days
He left West Ham earlier than I thought. He left in 1974. He joined Fulham and was playing for them when they lost to West Ham in the 75 Cup Final

Strangely Jermaine Beckford hasn't been included in the side today. He's still the top scorer in the league with sixteen. I'll have to check the LUFC website to see what the story with him is.

10:15 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yes, it's definitely sad news for Eduardo and the Arse but ironically could be the opening in the side that Theo has been waiting for. He could get a run of games with RVP and Eduardo both injured.

I was able to go there when my mom was still around. She had special permission to go on.

I did take the school I was coaching to England and played Lakenheath in the summer of '90. We had a home stay with players from our high school and Kathy's. We played a game at Feltwell that was drawn 1-1.

That is the same trip we played a game in London when a certain David Beckham scored a last minute winner against us.
