Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!
258 Comments:
And already we've had plenty of drama. Brum have a last gasp penalty as Parnaby is hauled down in the box. And that match has ended 2-2. Two dropped points for Arsene Wenger's side, you'd have to think.
Interestingly, Theo Walcott scored both of Arsenal's goals and James McFadden scored both of Brum's, including that last second pen. It's a crucial point for Brum who were inching toward relegation.
Next up is Fulham vs. West Ham. London derby or clash of the Yanks - you make your mind up.
From 365: "It's all over at St Andrews and Birmingham, who played virtually all the match with just ten men, have snatched a point at the death thanks to James McFadden's last-gasp penalty. Arsenal look absolutely dejected with Gallas sat alone on the pitch. He should be angry with his side because they had plenty of opportunities to kill this game off but they spurned them and paid the ultimate price."
Sorry, Gooner.
Fulham skipper Brian McBride makes his first start since recovering a from a serious knee injury.
Morning Bob.
I am obviously pleased with that last minute goal by the Blues.
Bad injury for Eduardo in the first three minutes. A multiple leg break!!
That is horrible. It was so bad the TV didn't show the replays of it
What is the Bobby Moore tribute?
Anniversary of his death?
Cambridge take an early lead in the BSP
I just Googled it
He died on February 24,1993
Morning, Dave. Yes, it's the anniversary of Bobby Moore's death. Nice touch for a match at Craven Cottage, though. Did he ever play for Fulham. I always associate him with West Ham.
Sad news for Eduardo. He's a good young player and that sounds like he'll lose a season. How did it happen?
Yes, he played for Fulham after his West Ham days
He left West Ham earlier than I thought. He left in 1974. He joined Fulham and was playing for them when they lost to West Ham in the 75 Cup Final
Liverpool are losing to Boro at home
As KK would say, I LUV IT!!
It was a mistimed tackle by Martin Taylor after 3 minutes. He was given a straight red.
Play was stopped for over 9 minutes
So, what are you thoughts about Wes Brown's salary demands this week. I smell a summer transfer to Sunderland.
Crikey!
Theo Walcot's goals were the first Arsenal goal scored by an Englishman this season. The last team for that to happen
He's an idiot... or his agent is
Strangely Jermaine Beckford hasn't been included in the side today. He's still the top scorer in the league with sixteen. I'll have to check the LUFC website to see what the story with him is.
Yes, it's definitely sad news for Eduardo and the Arse but ironically could be the opening in the side that Theo has been waiting for. He could get a run of games with RVP and Eduardo both injured.
What did JB do to Gary Mac?
I kept hearing snippets of some shenanigans that Gazza was involved in this week but I never got the full story. Did you hear?
Dunno, maybe he's suspended or injured.
1516: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger describes Martin Taylor's tackle on Eduardo as "horrendous". He continues: "If that is football, we're better to stop it."
Hi Mike if you're out there reading this!!!
Wotcher, Mike!
According to Yorkshire Post:
"Leeds United top scorer Jermaine Beckford misses the visit of Crewe through suspension so Gary McAllister will partner Tresor Kandol with Tore Andre Flo."
From the Leeds website
Bradley Johnson dropped to the bench and Andrew Hughes (knee) and Jermaine Beckford (suspension) were both unavailable for the clash.
1518: "This is pathetic. Can't we just have Rafa as our European manager and someone else as our domestic manager? Probs wouldn't work mind."
LFCPete92 on 606
Bugger, you beat me to it!!!
Interesting idea, that from the Scouser. Why not? You could hire an Englishman for the Premiership campaign and keep Rafa for the Champions League.
Should I send Mike an invitation to join the LOB team?
1522: "Re 1518: Didn't we try that with Houllier and Evans?"
Olly via text on 81111
He'd never comment. He is too lazy!!
Yeah, fair enough. Leeds have had six shots on goal to Crewe's nil, so we're piling on the pressure. Surely a goal with come soon. Unfortunately Walsall and Southend are both ahead, so even a win would only get us up to eighth.
Gazza's gone loopy
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/tyne/7256761.stm
Is Carlton Cole the most useless Premier League striker?
Weird and sad about Gazza, but what did he do?
Did you watch the video from Lakenheath on Five Live?
They had a quick shot of the school and the football/soccer field.
Ruddy Norra
Liverpool are winning.
I turn away for a minute and the score two quick ones
Torres has scored both
Not yet, but I will. Yep, Torres. They'd be mid-table without Fernando.
I couldn't find the video because it disappeared. I finally found it.
Here it is
Take a look when you get a chance
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/fivelivebreakfast/2008/02/lakenheath.html
Boro just had a goal disallowed for handball. No goals in the other Prem matches.
I don't think the full link was included
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/fivelivebreakfast/2008/02/lakenheath.html
I guess it did the first time
Sorry
I'll have a look at halftime.
League Leaders Stoke have taken the lead against the Tractor Boys
1539: Middlesbrough just can't stop scoring... disallowed goals. Jeremie Aliadiere joins in the fun, slotting past keeper Pepe Reina, but he's offside.
Shot count in the Leeds vs. Crewe match coming up on halftime:
Leeds 8
Crewe 2
Shame that shots don't count. Are you out there, Sepp Blatter?
I am sure Sepp would like that to count
UNITED WOULD NEVER LOSE!!
NEVER
My United... not yours!!
NO SCORING IN THE PREM EXCEPT FOR ANFIELD!!!
Doncaster are losing which is good news but the bad news is that Carlisle are beating them
The usual boring FSC Saturday morning match. I'm hoping for better with Newcastle vs. United. Another 6-0 thrashing?
Great stuff on Five Live! I kept thinking "I played on that football field!" "I pumped gas at that station!" "I washed dishes at that club!" Brilliant!
Me too
On the radio show they talk about when everything stops for the music. Even the cars stop.
Remember when our games would stop???
On the video of the school, you can see the tree dedicated to my dad.
It is bloody huge!!!
What music? National anthem?
Yeah, I saw that tree. It is immense. Have you been back since high school?
I don't know if it was the national anthem. Maybe it was but it was always at 5 o'clock
Ball to hand rather than hand to ball there from Anton. Seems like he's been visiting the same barber as his big brother.
Rob Green was nowhere near the ball there.
I was able to go there when my mom was still around. She had special permission to go on.
I did take the school I was coaching to England and played Lakenheath in the summer of '90. We had a home stay with players from our high school and Kathy's. We played a game at Feltwell that was drawn 1-1.
That is the same trip we played a game in London when a certain David Beckham scored a last minute winner against us.
Bloody hell!
"Gary McAllister is still waiting for his first win as Leeds boss and he could be waiting even longer with Crewe taking the lead at Elland Road thanks to Nicky Maynard's goal."
It's their first shot on goal today!
Sorry mate
Remember, Leeds time is still coming
But that was during the Wise/Poyet days. These days, there is no Leeds time.
Keep the faith
Still no goals away from Anfield!!!
1612: There's been a shot at Fratton Park as the game explodes into... well, shows some sign of... life. Milan Baros crosses and Jermain Defoe volleys into the arms of Sunderland keeper Craig Gordon.
You're right, I don't think any of us could get onto the base at this point.
Only Stoke and Bristol City of the top four are winning.
Stoke and BC in the top league.
Visions of the '70s
Nice move there from the Hammers but just wide from Noble.
NEWS FLASH!!
There's been a goal in the Prem
Wigan have scored against Derby
Trust the Rams to be the only ones to concede.
Costa Del Pool score a third.
So did Torres
Finally a goal in the Prem. Emile Heskey for Wigan against woeful Derby. My wager that Derby won't reach double figures is still on.
Cambridge are two up
Carlton Cole with more hopelessness there. The crazy thing is that he probably makes £25,000 a week. Meanwhile the defensive player of the year in the MLS just retired from the game at the age of 22 because he was making $23,000 a year! Puts things in perspective, eh?
As Spinal Tap's David St. Hubbins said at Elvis's gravesite...
Too much, too much f..king perspective!!
More goalkeeping woes from an Englishman
Penalty for Pompey
Why didn't Nobby shoot?
Defoe slots it away.
Of course, the match we're watching is the only one with no goals!!!
How could Cole miss the clear header
Twenty minutes left at the Elland. We keep getting the chances - 12 to 4 in the shots - but it's still 0-1.
The Hammers are turning the screw
It's about time for Pompey. They were scoring buckets full at the beginning of the season. Why did they sell off Benjani? That was a crazy move from 'Arry.
Blackpool and Charlton are having a cracker.
It is 5-3
I will never understand that Benji move
Go on, EJ!
Do you want Fulham to survive because of the American lads?
I don't know about Rob Green for England on this evidence. Unfortunately, it still looks like it's David James's job to lose.
Crickey!!!
What was going on there?
Why is Ashton on the bench?
It would be a nice time for him to score in front of Don Fabio
Absolutely, I've definitely got a soft spot for Fulham because of that. It would be a terrible blow for U.S. soccer if they went down. I don't think many Premiership clubs would be quick to pick up U.S. talent.
Boro get back a goal at Anfield
EJ... YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE BETTER THERE!!!
The crowd sound like they're giving him some stick
Not an auspicious start from EJ, blazing it over. Should have just knocked it back across the six yard box. Shame that.
Wigan score a second
I don't know why they'd give him stick already - it's his first appearance!
Boro get a red card
Fulham should have scored again.
The first guy's touch was weird. He went to the middle
Bullard should've squared it to EJ for a tap in there.
Aliadiere is off at Anfield.
Two yellows
THE HAMMERS SCORE
Fulham are in terrible trouble
Kandol has scored!!!
Fulham are down to ten men as well.
YESSSSS! Tresor Kandol for Leeds in the 86th minute. We're back in it at 1-1.
Leeds Time again!
Come on you Whites! Let's get a winner!
Still time for a winner at Elland Road!!!
1647: "Ali ad a mare!"
Anon via text on 81111
Shame for Fulham there and I didn't see where the red card came from. Dissent?
No comment on your lot!!!
Gooner would enjoy that pun.
Spector on now. Martin Tyler says "Almost an MLS fixture this." Nice on, Martin. He's on with WSD fairly regularly.
Carlisle have beaten Docaster
Swansea won again last night
Forest are winning.
Come on Leeds
I did put a couple of comments on about Kandol's goal - read back. Come on you Whites!
Stoke have beaten Ipswich
Bristol City have won
Bloody hell, I missed them!!
Liverpool have won 3-2
What a miserable free kick from Konchesky there. Straight into the wall.
You did beat me to the post though, I have to admit. You're the fasted typer in New York!
I can't post anymore
Fulham lose another. They're in real trouble.
Oopps, now I can.
I was blocked for a little while
Still playing at ER
Pompey win
Why not? Where are you going. Your big match is coming up!!!!
Yeah, it's in the 95th minutes - I wonder why?
No, I tried to post something and it wouldn't let me. I tried three time and they said there was some error.
All of a sudden, I could.
I AM HERE!!!
COME ON UNITED!! Take advantage of Arse's slip up.
It's over at the Elland. 1-1. Not what I wanted today, but I'll take it given what happened during the match.
It's over.
Better than a loss
9th place!!
Get a move on!!
1658: TEAM NEWS Newcastle v Man Utd
Newcastle midfielder Charles N'Zogbia returns after a one-match suspension and defender Abdoulaye Faye returns to the starting line-up having been away on Africa Nations Cup duty. Manchester United start with Wayne Rooney and Carloz Tevez up front with Nani replacing Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick in for Owen Hargreaves.
I'm around too although I'm going to fix some lunch before the match.
Hi Tony if you are reading as well.
Make me something
Highlites from St. Andrews.
Nasty tackle. All the players look shaken up.
Never a penalty!!!
Make yer own lunch, you slacker!
Why the Paris Hilton ad?!!!!
1706: Sir Bobby Robson is on the pitch at St James' Park to celebrate his 75th birthday. He has just joined Sir Alex Ferguson and Kevin Keegan to unveil a statue of the former Newcastle and England boss in the players' entrance. I love that guy.
Why do they love him so much? He didn't much for them. He was an Ipswich guy!!
Does Keggy have something up his sleeve today? Five striker attack!
What a shocker... Smiffy playing up front!!
Dunno, he had a great record with the Tractor Boys and a decent one with England, but he did nothing at St James's.
I'm nervous
About time.
How would you rank the front three for you lot; I'd have them:
1. Tevez
2. Roon
3. Ronaldo
United looking a little shaky right now
What's going on with Smithy's hair? I haven't seen a close-up yet but even from twenty yards away, you can see that he's glowing.
Ron, Roon, Tev
I like them all..duh
He's always been a nut
Arsene has said that Martin Taylor should never play again!!
A little over the top
I just reckon that Tevez is your big match player. Ron's more likely to score extravagant free kicks against Pompey or a hat-trick at Derby in the Carling Cup but Carlito wins you trophies. And Ron's a big girl cheat.
You're nuts!!
Did you see how much United missed Roon for the Citeh match?
He was the match winner against Arse
Arsene sounding a bit like Hillary Clinton there...er, sorry, the Senator from New York. My apologies.
Get the ball over Evra or Ron.
I just got a look at Smithy. He looks just like Tintin.
Great ball from Carrick.
He had a corker to Nani last week
Roon is looking pretty useless
I don't know about that. Do you really want to see Roon chasing players back to the corner flag?
Is Viduka hurt?
No, I had visions of yellow card
Shoot Roon
Too right, he's definitely of the Alan Smith school of tackling back.
COME ON UNITED!!!
From the South Tyneside Post:
"Otherwise, forwards Mark Viduka and Shola Ameobi are available, though Viduka is still short of fitness, having been troubled by a calf problem in recent weeks."
Against Russia in Moscow... need I say more
Danka
Next week's FSC games
Arsenal Villa at 10
Citeh Wigan at Noon.
What has happened to Duff?
He has been useless
The Orange with a £50K tackle there.
He was brill for Blackburn, okay for Chelski and now hopeless for the Magpies.
Great passing and run by Carrick.
Shame nothing came from it
Ron!!!
Just heard on Talksport that Leeds will hear about their appeal about the 15 points will be decided this week.
Maybe they will be up to second
Never a pen
Eduardo's leg is broken in three places!!
Yikes
I thought that that was a decent shout for a penalty, didn't you?
YES!!!!
ROOONEY!!!
GREAT CROSS...GREAT VOLLEY!!
Lovely jubbley
Rio got all ball
Nice move from United, but woeful defending from Newcastle. How can N'Zogbia lose sight of Roon there. He's only England's top striker. Carlton Cole you can let go of but not Roon.
Totally agreed.
Let's get some more!!!
I won't be looking at the replay of that Martin Taylor tackle on Eduardo. Sounds like a video nasty.
The radio is saying that the tackle was bad because of Eduardo's speed.
They are giving Arsene some grief about his reaction.
He never sees the Arsenal tackles but jumps down the neck of everyone else.
Why didn't Nani pass it off?
The radio just brought up your point from earlier. This could be Theo's opening
I'll repeat... never a pen
Owen's a bit chippier than usual today. I wonder what's going on with him. That could have been a red.
Vidic better not be hurt.
The leg was kicked there
great passing and movement from United.
Tevez should have done better
Your lot are carving these mugs open again and again. A little more quality on those final balls from Nani and Fletcher on those last two attacks and you'd have been in again.
I want some goals then!!!
The St James's faithful are so starved for success that they roar their heads off when the side even wins a corner!
Great cross and Tevez missing the header!!
Come on, I don't want to rue these misses
YES!!!
A knife through butter!!!
United 8 Newcastle 0
Too easy that. 2-0. Are you predicting eight today? This has got to be painful for Keggy.
Don't let up you Reds!!!
No... that is the score so far this season
