Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Soccer Saturday

I am here to follow the footer as usual. I wonder if Canada Boy will be able to join us.
Hope for some company!!

We're off at the Emirates

We are indeed. Will Arsenal win one for Eduardo. Hang on to your hats. It's the first time in yonks when all three title-contenders have been playing at the same time.

Meanwhile, Leeds are still 0-1 up at halftime in Swindon. A first win for Gary McAllister would be very, very welcome.

10:04 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

And Doncaster have already taken the lead at Tranmere to keep up their claim on second spot in Division 1. A draw would probably be the best result for us.

Well come back from Siberia

Nice turn and shot by Theo. Nice save by England's number 3 number 1

All three of the big three kicking off at 3 o'clock is one thing. All of them kicking off in LONDON is something else

The lasting memory I'll have of Ready Ted is the 4-1 England win over Holland at Euro 96 that Gooner and I witnessed at first hand. Teddy was at his cultured best that night.

From 365: "Danny Murphy forces Edwin Van der Sar into a brilliant save with a volley from 25 yards out. Brilliant save by the Dutchman as that was heading into the bottom corner."

Boy, I am jealous of your '96 stories.

Mike, Tony, brother-in-law Jon and his brother Phil had a choice of either semi final. They decided that England wouldn't win their group so they picked the Old Trafford semi. They chose wrong. They were really bummed.

You never told me that you went to Old Trafford. I AM REALLY JEALOUS

Blogger United We Stand said...

Keep it up VDS... come on United get your finger out

10:16 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

YES!!! THANK YOU!!

Owen Hargreaves scores his first United goal!!

10:17 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, it's the only time that I've been to OT. I've seen United at Derby with the old Bobby Charlton, George Best side in the early 70s and in the later 70s at Maine Road against Citeh, but never at OT.

10:18 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Nice one, Owen. Back in the side, eh?

10:18 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

From 365: "GOAL - FULHAM 0 MANCHESTER UNITED 1. A wonderful free-kick by Owen Hargreaves goes up and over the wall and into the corner of the net, leaving Niemi with no chance. A brilliant goal by the England midfielder."

Sorry Sir Trev

Why didn't Maloney shoot

Arsenal had a chance for a break but they slowed it down

Bloody Hell. Chelsea are three up

Bollocks with the third inside 25 minutes
I don't think he used to play at Upton Park

An own goal for Senderos. Not really his fault

Villa look very dangerous.
Could they get fourth?

Agbonlehor needs to play for England!

10:30 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Come on United get a second please

10:32 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I agree with you on Ag. Dunno if Villa can claim fourth, though. Either Spurs or Liverpool in my book.

As things stand, you lot are on top due to goal difference. Chelski six points back in third.

10:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

What are your thoughts on Reading?

Do you want them to survive?

10:33 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

You do mean Everton or Liverpool not Spurs and Pool

Spurs are in the bottom half and losing today

10:34 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

From 365: "Spurs are all over Birmingham at St Andrews at the moment - Berbatov pulling the strings - but they still trail to that early Forssell header. Jamie O'Hara is the latest to go close, shooting straight at Maik Taylor from a tight angle. Birmingham 1 Tottenham 0."

10:36 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, Everton or Liverpool. Spurs will be in the UEFA due to the Carling.

10:37 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

I'd be fine with Reading going down. My only warm feeling for them was that they had Bobby Convey, but he's been replaced by that nasty little sod Stephen Hunt in the first. I'd rather see Fulham stay up.

RED CARD - LAMPARD. It's all kicking off at Upton Park and Lampard is sent off for a push on Luis Boa Morte. Now all the Chelsea players are surrounding the referee although it was a harsh red sending off.

10:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Lampard has just been sent off!!!

10:40 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Villa was doing this to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. They blew it right at half. Will the same happen here?

10:42 AM

What a cracker from Maloney and Almunia was beaten, saved by the angle.

10:44 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

1541: "Lampard and Boa Morte should both have been booked. It didn't warrant a red card."

Will they appeal?
Did you see the Boro appealed and the ban was extended!!

Off the bar from Villa

That was saved

10:44 AM
Blogger United We Stand said...

United should be getting a second
They have outshot Fulham 10-3

10:46 AM
Blogger gatorbob said...

Yeah, the FA didn't much of that Boro appeal and Ali-ad-a-mare got his ban extended to four matches, while Martin Taylor got away with three for GBH!

FULHAM 0 MANCHESTER UNITED 2 It's Ji-Sung Park who gets the goal after a superb passing move by the visitors. Tevez, Nani and Scholes combine really well and it's an easy headed finish for the South Korean.

Headed over

Why didn't he take a whack at it?

Birmingham have scored a third!!!

11:20 AM

Fabregas has looked really out of sorts today. Two really poor corners in a row. He turned white as a sheet when he saw Eduardo's leg last week and I wonder if he isn't suffering the after effects today.

11:22 AM

He was the closest to the leg break.
It may be effecting him

11:24 AM

From 365: "Michael Owen misses another glorious chance for Newcastle as he is sent clean through on goal by Joey Barton. The England striker tries to slot the ball into the bottom corner but Brad Friedel makes another brilliant save. Still Newcastle 0 Blackburn 0."

United haven't done much in the second half

11:26 AM

So many times you watch Arsenal and they're doing this same thing of dinking it about the eighteen yard box, looking for the killer pass.

It reminds me of those backyard games at the Dossys when someone would block the fireplace piece and the attackers would lay siege on it trying to pass it back and forth until there was an opening.

Quite relieved with the 1-1 scoreline after a really poor performance from Arsenal. And it's a bit shocking too that the Eduardo injury didn't galvanize the team spirit a little more than that. Maybe they were leaving a bit in the tank for Milan in midweek?

A point about Villa's performance though... They are shockingly poor up front. I haven't seen the Optima stats but if they had 15 shots on goal, I wouldn't be surprised. Yet they didn't score even their goal! And for all the banging on that Tyler and Lumpy did, Aglonbahor is a waster. He should have had his hat-trick done and dusted going into the half with the way he had Sendaros on the ropes. Not just taking his chances either. I'm talking about converting just the sitters. And he didn't and so please, spare me the Aglonbahor praises.

Arsenal must do better though. Wolcott in particular needs to adapt in the absence of Eduardo and Rip Van Persie who may never be seen again until the Euros where undoubtedly, he'll get crocked again so that we won't have him next season either. Clichy, I suspect he's playing through a light injury so I'm not as worried about him. We must get Toure back soon however. Sendaros' displays are making the Gooner faithful pine for the days of Pascal Cygan again!

Hah-hah, Spurs!
