As usual, most of the top sides are playing duff sides in Division 1. The exceptions are Southend vs. Forest and Swansea vs. Tranmere. I'll take a Swansea win and a 0-0 draw in the other.

Have you noticed that the indirect free kick for obstruction has almost entirely dropped out of the referee's repertoire? That's what I'd have given on Saturday in the incident involving Distin and Cristiano Ronaldo - that is, not a penalty - and that's what I'd have given Chivu. What's happened to obstruction?

Oh deary, deary me. I can't believe I'm watching Liverpool beat Inter at the San Siro to take their place in the final eight of the Champions League and my side's getting slated at home by bloody Cheltenham. How the mighty have fallen.

Full-time: 0-1 Liverpool. A marvelous night for Merseyside and English football. Inter on the other hand were poor. They were negative in the first leg and desperate tonight. These are the Italian champions? It just goes to show how far Serie A has fallen.
