Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

The Road to South Africa

It all starts here today and with the help of Dave's new website, we're all watching it live.

Of course, it's a bit of a hiding to nothing. An 8-0 win for England will be marked down to the poor quality of the opposition and a 1-0 win will put more pressure on Capello and his boys.

Join me for all the build-up and the action from Andorra.

The second half has just started and Slovakia have made the breakthrough. Skrtel with a free header in the six yard box from a free kick.

Hey there Trev. Yes, I keep pinching myself but I do actually think we'll be able to watch the England match live. Amazing, eh? Welcome!

12:42 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

That was a tasty result for us. And we were 5-0 up until the 90th minute, believe it or not. Cheers!

Okay . . . I'll be out and about . . . but back for the 2 o'clock kickoff . . .

See you then!

N. Ireland denied a clear penalty there. Definite handball.

12:58 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

And now it's 2-0. The Slovakians ran it down the other end and Hamsik has got their second. It's a long way back for Nigel Worthington's team now.

IS YOURS WORKING?

1:04 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Mine went off too but I went back to the list and jumped on the one for Andorra vs. England and that's working. At one point they went off saying that they'd had technical difficulties but it's back on now. I did miss the N. Ireland goal. It's 2-1 now.

1:14 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It's down to five minutes left for N. Ireland to dig this one out.

1:16 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Slovakia really under the cosh now. N. Ireland definitely deserve a point out of this.

1:19 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

It's all over in Bratislava and a tough break for N. Ireland, going down 2-1. So it's been an uneven day for the Home Countries with Scotland and N. Ireland going down to defeats and Wales pulling out a scrappy win against Azerbaijan.

Now, for the big one and the big test. Will this new system work? I'm crossing all my digits.

1:23 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Brilliant! The build-up is starting right now!

Here's that England team in full from 1-11: David James, Glen Johnson, Ashley Cole, Gareth Barry, Joleon Lescott, John Terry (c), Theo Walcott, Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, Stewart Downing, Jermain Defoe. Subs: Paul Robinson, Wes Brown, Wayne Bridge, David Beckham, David Bentley, Emile Heskey, Joe Cole.

1:33 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

So it's Theo in for Becks on the right, Joleon Lescott in for Rio in the middle of defense, Stewart Downing in on the left side, and Glen Johnson in at right back. Barry in the holding role, Lamps ahead of him and Roon and Defoe up front.

1:35 PM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

So which channel are you going to watch the England match on? There seems to be lots to choose from.

2:02 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Looking good for England so far. Nearly a pen there for Cashley.

2:03 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Great stuff again from Cashley and it ends with a shot from Glen Johnson deflected for a corner.

2:05 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

One goal and the floodgates will open here.

2:06 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I agree with Chris Waddle - I'd like to see Theo run at his man.

2:09 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The strikers are playing far too deep. I'd love to see wee Mikey latching on to these balls from Theo.

2:11 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Goldenballs doesn't look too happy on the bench, does he?

2:13 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Oh, Roon - get it on target, son!

2:15 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Lamps is not getting the job done. Keeps coughing up the ball. I'd have him off at half time.

2:18 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Referee plays advantage and Lamps goes oh so close. Should be 2 or 3 up by now.

2:20 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The final ball has been poor.

2:26 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

England fans starting to lose their patience, with some boos coming in after that poor ball from Glen Johnson.

2:32 PM

Joe Cole will have to come on in the second half. Downing has been useless.

2:41 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

We're going to hear some loud jeers when the half time whistle goes.

I'm looking forward to hearing what El Tel makes of it.

2:44 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Half-time: England 0 Andorra 0

Predictable response from the England faithful. Steve McManaman and El Tel are not pleased. We really needed a confidence building victory here ahead of the crucial match in Zagreb on Wednesday.

2:54 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Excellent - exactly the changes I would've made. Joe Cole on for Downing and Heskey on for Defoe.

3:01 PM

Okay, I'm back from the grocery store. Paella for dinner tonight. It's nutz that we are watching this live! C'mon Engurland! Stick it bloody in.

3:04 PM
Blogger West Ham Rising said...

There we go!!!!

Thank you, West Ham Academy!

3:05 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

YESSSSS! Joe Cole sticks in the first with the kind of chance that Roon and Defoe missed in the first half. Magic!

1-0 England!

3:05 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Well done, the Hammers Academy!

3:15 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

The first half was dismal, Dave, but the West Ham Academy is pulling it out for us now.

3:16 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Nearly 3-0 but called back for offside.

3:18 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Welcome Davey and thank-you again for leading me to this feed. It's brilliant.

The story so far is Andorra-9 men behind the ball, England-Defoe primarily proving once again that he's got no business playing for England again. England lumping ballony crosses for the Andorran keeper to calmly collect. Then Joe Cole comes on for Downing and it's all happening.

3:19 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Johnson puts it in but called offside because of J Cole... bugger

3:19 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Definitely - this live feed is fantastic. I'm afraid that I'll be up at all hours checking in on the live feed of Asian qualifying matches, though. Could be very addictive.

3:21 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

Is there previous between the Andorrans and Terry? He's really laying into them.

3:21 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

I know that Roon picked up a yellow card against them in Euro 2008 qualifying that ruled him out of some matches. Don't know about Terry.

3:22 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Surely we need more goals

3:23 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Well, Ukraine only scraped a 1-0 against Belarus and we're matching Croatia's efforts against Borat.

3:24 PM

I am stunned about this stuff. I can't wait for League and Cup games too.

I have emailed the Spurs fan that sent this to me. I will let you know how long he has used it.

3:33 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Time for another change, methinks. Becks for Theo?

3:34 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

no-no-no, no becks please.

3:34 PM
Blogger gooner71 said...

dang! right guy going off, exactly the wrong guy coming on.

3:36 PM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Yeah, I think so. The Andorrans seem to take about ten minutes to figure out how to play certain players. Theo ripped it up for the first ten minutes, then Joe Cole in the second half, then they sort themselves out. I'd like to see some good deliveries in to Roon and Heskey. The balls in from the fullbacks have been dire.

3:37 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Still no luck for me!!!!

Blogger The Blue Devil said...

Full-time: 2-0 England.

The three points are in the bag, that's the main thing, and if we get a result against Croatia, we'll forget this one. But it was disappointing, wasn't it? The main questions haven't been answered. No bite up front, poor service from the flanks, Lamps can't play with anyone near him. The defense and David James weren't challenged today. We'll see about Wednesday.

3:51 PM
