Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

US vs. T&T

You lot still up for this one? Hope so or I'll be a lonely gooner tonight.

OK, if you're tuning in a bit late, you missed maybe the only version of the Star Spangled Banner that rivals Hendrix's effort at Woodstock(Monterey?) You know the one I'm talking about.

This time it was performed by a steel drums corps and it was just what you imagine it was.

And then, some announcer whipped up the Trinis before a rousing version of their anthem also on the steel drums. Try and you.tube it. It was magnificent.

So much so that I didn't catch the entire line up for the US.

Guzman in goal, looks like Danny Califf and Heath Pierce in the back, Adu, Edu, in the mid. Altidore up front. Maybe that new Mexican American Orozco? I'll fill in more as I catch them.

And I didn't catch even one of the T&T guys.

I'll

I'll probably bugger off at 9pm to watch the debate. It's the responsible thing to do and I can DVR this.

One nifty movement by the T&T left sided guys results in a good save from a deflection off Pierce by Guzman.

Califf looks like he should be asking "can you squeal like a pig?"

Heyduk balloons a cross over but unpressured, T&T puts it out for a corner and.....

...and Altidore the target cannot grow 3 feet taller in time to meet the corner taken by Adu. Shameful.

Sasha Kleckjian(?) is on the field. He had a good outing in the first half against Cuba. I might change my mind about him.

Latapy for T&T is the guy on the left who looks up for it. Maybe he can convince someone else.

OOOH. Like Daniels, who pounces on a loose ball in our area but it's way over the bar. Lucky stuff for the US.

You know, Freddie is all that and shocking at exactly the same time. Collects the ball quickly with a guy on his off shoulder, but instead of motoring away, he plays a ball that Beasley would have had to have been in a Maserati to catch up to.

Good work on the left side by DaMarcus who in the end plays the ball behind all the targets in the middle. Kleckjian's effort bloked and T&T breathe again.

Well, this is not stirring stuff yet.

The US is as disjointed as you might expect from a midfield and forward line of guys Adu, Torres, Edu, Klekjian, Beasley, and Altidore. They don't look like they're on the same page at all. Passes are sent way ahead of the forward run, forwards are not getting across the defender in anticipation of that telling ball, and of course, it being the USA, the crossing is diabolical.

This may have been too much change from Saturday. Bradley can afford to phone-in the rest of our group matches, but this is not stirring stuff to watch.

T&T on the other hand are nothing like the men that showed up and but for Crouchie's sneaking tug, might have spoiled England's party.

0-0, and really, McCain's new economic plan is more likely to succeed than T&T.

I'm off to watch the debate. See-ya

Sorry to bail on you, Gooner. The debate party took precedence last night. From what I saw running back over the tape on fast forward, it looked like the U.S. boys couldn't be bothered either. 2-1 Trini win in the end with United old boy Yorkie pulling most of the strings.

I was pretty surprised to see that T&T sneaked this one. They have so little quality going forward and when we field nearly a full 11 of second stringers, 0-0 was the bookies choice.
