Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Germany: Adler, Friedrich, Mertesacker, Westermann, Compper, Schweinsteiger, Rolfes, Jones, Trochowski, Gomez, Klose. Subs: Wiese, Hinkel, Tasci, Helmes, Podolski, Marin, Hitzlsperger, Schafer, Weis.
That's odd - the GolTV link is still doing the set-up but the kick-off is scheduled for 2:45 EST. Hmmm....
The good news for the England backfour is that Mario Gomez is getting the start up front for Germany.
It's 2:50 and still no kick-off.
First bit of hilarity from Ray Hudson: Agbonlahor described "a little bit tasty." This should be fun with Ray on board this afternoon.
First chance for Defoe...no it's been called back for offside. He was just riding the shoulder of the last defender.
It will be interesting to see if Barry and Carrick trip over each other.
A fairly pacey front line for England with SWP, Gabby and Defoe.
England very much in control of the ball so far.
A bit of calamity there from David James but somehow England escaped.
Some whistling there from the German crowd presumably because of the slow start from the home side.
Maxi Rodriguez has scored for Argentina against Scotland up at Hampden Park.
GOAL! The German keeper Adler isn't happy about it because he felt that he'd been impeded but Jermaine Defoe isn't fussed as he finishes off a lovely swirling cross to put England 0-1 up.
Good tip over there from Calamity from a tasty free kick.
SWP is the first one into the book today with a high challenge.
Hey Bob,
I just got home.
Glad to see the score. Is it deserved.
I have an ITV link. What about you?
Hudson singing the praises of Fabio Capello in a manner reminiscent of his paeans to one Juan Roman Riquelme.
How is Ags playing?
I have David Pleat as the color man and the main ITV guy
Hey Dave! I'm on the GolTV Veetle link with Ray Hudson doing the color.
The one nil lead is definitely deserved. The Germans may complain about the goal but I thought it was good. The Germans have been playing England high up the pitch and they've survived a couple of offside scares already. The speed merchants up front should have some joy today.
my picture isn't as clear as Veetle but I like the ITV link. I hope I get a good half time show
Pleat is pleased with Carrick's performance. What do you think?
One minute of added time
I have both this match and the Scotland game.
Sorry, I was interrupted by a student. Agbonlahor hasn't been involved as much as I'd like. This is a big opportunity for him. Defoe's been the main outlet so far.
Heck of a crack there from Downing.
I don't think it makes sense to play Carrick and Barry together but Michael's been solid enough.
Bloody students!!
Half time.... keep it up
I have Andy Townsend, Teddy Sheringham and co for the half time talk. BUGGER, the guy just turned the channel. Well at least he went to Scotland
Half-time: England one up and smiling so far.
Tevez hits one over the bar
That was a great goal by the Argies for their goal. They just showed it and it was great passing
Tevez down hurt with a dody ankle. He is walking off for half time but don't hurt yourself Carlos
Now I am on the Irish link but no he has changed it to Gillette Soccer Special
Carson on for James and Bent for Devoe
We're off. England with the two changes, Germany with three
I was interrupted again. Who came on?
Bent for Defoe?
Yup, Defoe off for Bent and James off for Carson
ooh teddy teddy thinks Bent will score this half
Worth a shot but useless one by Downing. He could have whipped that one across
Podalski to come on for Gomez... bugger
Podolski has been in the Bayern reserves for 18 months according to Pleat. Why doesn't he leave??
Horrible stat, since the '66 WC Final, Germany have reached ELEVEN finals and England NONE
Upson scored? You said Defoe
Oooh, Bent rounds the keeper and misses!!!!
WTF?!
UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
WHAT IS TERRY AND CARSON DOING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHAT A HOWLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Terry misses it and Carson gets megged
Carson hasn't a hope of having an England career!!
That was horrible. JT completely bolloxed that one up hoping that Carson would come. Then Carson got nutmegged. Shocking stuff.
Did I say Defoe? Sorry, mate. It was Upson. Defoe was the that was partially impeding the goalkeeper.
I think it is both their faults. Don't let Terry get away with it unblamed.
A fairly bad minute or so there with the horrible Bent miss and then the cock up at the back. Suddenly it's not looking quite as bright for the Three Lions.
Gabby hits it wide. The fans thought it was in
That was saved
Free kick opportunity here for England, while Hudson is extolling the holiday opportunities for traveling to Germany in the wintertime.
England have done well since the goal.
You have been bothered by more students again?
Downing has his shot parried.
I agree with you - both JT and Carson were at fault but JT has the future with England while Scottie Carson has done himself in with this cockup and the bobble against Croatia at Wembley.
Downing doesn't cross it well for a wide man
Yeah, it's my office hours so I've had a constant trickle coming in.
Terry is a clown. If this doesn't cement it, I do not know what will. And just watch them crucify Carson for Terry's mistake.
Your were a center half Bob, what the hell would you have done with that ball, just left it for Remi? No, you bleedin' wouldn't have.
Who was the best crosser that you can remember?
This Helges geezer looks a damn sight better than "Super" Mario Gomez.
Hello Gooner... couldn't agree with you more
Gomez would have scored from the Terry gift... I think
No chance - I would have hoofed that ball onto the flight line, no problem. I remember one time clearing one out at London Central that cleared the wee fence around the field and went bouncing down onto the motorway down below.
Best crosser, eh? Got to be Eddie Gray.
kadoomf
My vote is for Steve Coppell
Young on for Ags
Good hit from SWP!!
OFF THE POST!!!
Nice move by SWP
Stevie Coppell would certainly be in my top ten.
Defoe is already in a tie!!!
At least some comments on the BBC website are blaming Terry
45 Friendlies are being played today!
Yes, Terry puts it in!!!!
Nice cross and nice header.
GOAL! Terry redeems himself by nodding home brilliantly.
Germany 1 England 2
He may have been offside.
Ray Hudson: "John Terry is like a circus contortionist stretching his neck around the big defender!"
Brilliant!
I don't want him to be the hero. I want him to take some blame post match
Bugger... I just lost my link!!
Very interesting, I lost my ITV link and have turned on to the Gol link.
The teams are going in the opposite direction!!!!
I'll grudgingly amend my comment to "lucky clown."
I still think he's one of the most technically limited England captains since the War.
He's a thug
This Yank on Gol is really annoying me
He is hopeless.
He hasn't a clue
He thinks it has been over three times
Full-time: England grab another famous victory in Germany. This one isn't quite as spectacular as that 5-1 in 2001 but it no less satisfying and sweet. The Capello era keeps rolling along.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!
ENGLAND WIN IN GERMANY AGAIN!!!
Good job England.
I don't like the idea that both goals come from the two centerbacks but...
What time is the U.S. qualifier on tonight, lads? And what channel?
Best crosser of the ball was either Manny Kalz or Andreas Brehme. On a sixpence, flat and crisp as a eucharist, every single time.
Maybe Manny Kalz because he was able to make Horst Hruebech look like a footballer. But Brehme picked out that choir boy that played for Mee-lan and made him a star.
Just looked it up
8 o'clock on ESPN Classic
Some interesting scores today. Wales have beaten Denmark away. Italy have eked out a draw in Greece. Poland are leading 2-0 in Ireland.
Well those were a couple of obscure choices by the Gooner.
Cheers, mate! Will you lads be around for that one?
I maybe around
Take care
I maybe around
Take care
BUGGER!!
I just read that Berbatov went off with a hammy in the first half
