Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Is It All Over??

David Beckham has torn his Achilles Tendon while playing for Milan this evening. He has been ruled out for five to eight months!
He will definitely be out of the World Cup squad. I know some of you think this is a good thing but is he done for good!
A spectacular career in my books. He was a United legend from 1996-2003. He won it all while he was wearing the famous red shirt. He went through torture that was not deserved after his sending off in WC '98 but he fought his way back to be a national hero with his goal against Greece. His career was never the same after he left United but still won the Spanish title in his last season. I don't think he should have ever come to the MLS.

Your thoughts?

Thanks for the posting, mate. This is the end result of Beckham's lack of humility over the past few years. The shame of it is that Capello's mixed messages to Becks got to his head to where he thought he could continue at the highest level of footie in his mid-30s.

I don't think he's necessarily done but it's up to him. If he heals himself both physically and mentally, he could return to the MLS and the Galaxy and become a true hero in this country. I'm not holding my breath.

I disagree. He's done. At his age, he'd have to spend time that he doesn't have left in his career to get rehabilitated. And for what? You think Milan is going to wait for him? You think that any club that he'd deign to play for will show interest? You think he'd work hard to come back to go on a jolly and play in Qatar? I don't.

It's a shame. And a weird one. I don't quite understand why it happened looking at the footage. Did he snag the turf? It just looked like one moment normal service, next, he's crawling like a wounded animal for the sidelines. Really strange.

I am not sure if this is the end of Beckham's career. He surely won't play for England or a top flight team again at his age. He could possibly play in MLS in the future. Not sure if he wants to do this at this stage in his career. MUR brought up a great point that Beckham won everything at OT before falling out with SAF. He never really displayed the same form after leaving Man United. Beckham will be best remembered as one of the best crossers of a ball and one of the best free kick specialists of all time.
