Thanks for the post, Gooner. You can immediately see why the Euros are more competitive than the World Cup, can't you? There really isn't that easy a route for England. If not your nightmare, it could just as easily be: Holland, England, Sweden, Ireland. I don't fancy that much either. I suppose the dream draw would be Poland, England, Greece and the Czechs. But how likely is that?
At least we avoided the bloody Germans - did you see their demolition of Holland? Cor!
I think the Germans are a safe bet to take the tournament. They know what Spain are about, and have the beating of any of England, Holland obviously, Italy, Portugal or France. Against Spain, they'll just press the midfield and leave Villa and Torres stranded up front while Ozil, Mueller, and the ludicrously resurgent Gomez tear them apart at the back.
I agree with Gooner's post. England could easily finish bottom of their group if they have that nightmare group or if they are in a group with Holland, Portugal, and France. I think the easiest group would be Poland, England , Greece, and Denmark. England should advance if they have that easy draw. So England's chances depends upon the draw.I also agree with Gooner that the Germans look a safe bet to win the tournament. I would not be surprised to see them beat Spain. They could be in the same group during the group stages.
We have not mentioned the Irish. A nightmare scenario for Ireland would be Spain, Germany , Portugal, and Ireland. The Irish would probably end up with no points and no goals if put in that group. The best possible draw for the Irish would be Poland,Russia, Greece, and Ireland. I could see Ireland possibly advancing as a second place team in this scenario, but how likely is this to happen. Unless the Irish get the luck of the draw then they would unfortunately be heading home at the end of the group stage.
