Let's Have Another One, Lads!
Another FA Cup 3rd Round match; another old rival, eh? Someone at the FA must have a healthy sense of humor. I'll likely be out at Ebenezer Methodist School for most of the proceedings this afternoon, but I thought I'd start the thread with the hope that the Mighty Whites can pull out another famous win against the Gunners. MOT!

1800 FOOTBALL: Opta Sports on Twitter: "1 - Arsenal have only lost one FA Cup home game in the Arsene Wenger era, but that was against Leeds United (0-1 in Feb 1997). Giants."
I read on the FSC web site that Wenger is fileding a full strength lineup "in the hopes that history does not repeat itself." Wenger claims the replay at ER was an extra match they didn't need and he feels that led to their donfall last season.
I home at the 12 minute mark
Still scoreless
Arsenal v Leeds line-ups
Arsenal: Szczesny, Koscielny, Miquel, Squillaci, Coquelin, Arteta, Song, Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Chamakh, Arshavin. Subs: Martinez, Park, Henry, Walcott, Benayoun, Miyaichi, Yennaris.
Leeds: Lonergan, Thompson, Lees, O'Dea, White, Townsend, Pugh, Nunez, Clayton, Becchio, Vayrynen. Subs: Taylor, Bruce, Brown, Sam, Forssell, Parker, McCormack.
Referee: Mark Clattenburg (Tyne & Wear)
1954: The TV cameras are showing Thierry Henry's reaction every time Arsenal have a pop on goal. He is deep in conversation most of the time and it would make it easier for non lip-readers to know what he was thinking if he could hold up a little sign in future... eg 'my statue could do better than that' for those last two efforts.
1957: Leeds' best moments (from a very subdued start) have come when Tottenham loanee Andros Townsend has tried to escape down the left flank, and he has already won a couple of free-kicks. Francis Coquelin is the latest man to take him out, and this time Leeds elect to pump the ball forward rather than back towards their own goal. Good thinking, that.
Why are Leeds wearing dark blue?
Apparently, red didn't clash with white in 1972 but it does today!
Leeds have a decent chace. Becchio hits one over.. shame
Nice following of ERers behind the goal
Shocking News...
Messi wins the Ballon d'Or
Coquelin has had to go off injured
Leeds break well... they have their first corner at the 32 minutes... a short one!!
They then get called offside!
Leeds are just waiting for the second half so they can score in front of their own fans
Townsend shows some good pace but hits it too far and dives for a free kick... he is spoken to by the ref to knock it off
Chief football writer Phil McNulty at the Emirates Stadium: "Leeds United fans giving it the "Ole" as they pass it around - not quite 7-0 Revie-era v Southampton but they're enjoying it."
Arsenal replace their injured fullback with a bloke wearing #56!
Nico Yennaris born in Leytonstone
Was it last season these two met in the Cup and Arsenal tied it up in the last minute?
Coming up to half time and neither keeper has had to make a save
We are into the one minute of added time
Arse have a corner... headed over
That's it for the half.. so far so good for Bob... not so much for Steve
I'll be back after walkies
TTFN
good afternoon UWS. I see that it is 0-0 at halftime. A great halftime score for Leeds.
Yes. That is correct. They met last season and the Gunners needed a last minute pen from Cesc to stay in the cup.
Spurs vs Everton on Wednesday will pit Brad vs Landy.
Will TH 12 come on as a sub as Scholes did yesterday?
The second half kicks off from the EM.
TH 12 gets a standing ovation as he warms up on the touchline.
Oxlade-Chamberlain cuts insdie two Leeds dfenders then shoots wide when a pass was a better option.
Useless pass by Arteta.
Arsenal have been camped just outside the Leeds box the opening minutes of the half.
Thompson concedes a corner after tackling Arshavin. Longergan punches away the corner from Arteta, then Oxlade-Chamberlains cross is overcooked.
Again great defending by Thompson on Arashavin, then Leeds break and Yorkshire Nani wins a corner.
Wenger is pissed as Arshavin volleys high and wide from a great position where both a pass and shot were on.
Another Arsenal corner off a cross from Arshavin intended for Chamakh. Miquel has a header off the corner deflected fo another corner.
Lonergan punches away the corner and the Gunners keep possession.
Lonergan does well to save a shot from Arteta off a pass from Oxlade-Chamberlain. The announcer says that was Arsenal's first shot on target tonight.
Arshavin shoots wdie with just Lonergan to beat off a poor backpass from Vareinen. A reprieve for the dark blues.
It's all Arsenal as Leeds cannot win the ball back.
Now Leeds break through Aidy White then give the ball away , but Lees headed a cross away for a corner. Lonergan easily catches the corner.
The Leeds break was off a blocked shot from Oxlade-Chamberlain.
I am back and still nil nil and Henryless?
Ex Spur, Michael Brown will come on for Leeds.
Hello UWS!It is still scoreless, but all Gunners this half.
BUUGGER! mY LINK GAVE OUT AND WENT TO SOME ADS FOR dISNEY MOVIES . tIME TO RELOAD.
Thankfully , link 2 works. Chamakh will not be missed when he is gone for ACN duty.
Nasri in the stands.. who does he play in the next round????
Nasri may be in the studio giving expert analysis ion the next round. Definitely not at Anfield.
Nasri may be in the studio giving expert analysis ion the next round. Definitely not at Anfield.
Townsend breaks for Leeds and thought he had a corner . He kicked away the ball in anger and is booke by Mark ClattenburgHe is on loan from Spurs.
Good run by Townsend and should have gotten a corner but the linesman didn't see it... he gets booked for kicking the ball away
Henry about to come on along with Walcott who is wearing his #14
A standing ovation as TH12 is about to come on.
Would that make Theo the new TH14?
Standing ovation for Walcott.... I mean TH #12!!!!!
They can't come on.. the ball won't go out of play
That would TW 14
I feel sorry for Townsend. He was unlucky , but should not have kicked the ball away. Punishment for being on loan from Spurs?
Townsend looks dangerous!
Still no stop of play... finally Chamberlin hits one out
Here comes Walcott and then Henry
I was thinking that TH beciause it's the first two letters of his first name.
Emirates explodes for TH 12... will he screw up like Scholes!!!
Theo on for Oxlade-Chamberlain and TH12 on for the useless Chamakh and a predictable standing ovation.
Good point MUR
I hope he screws up.
First touch... miscontrols!
Thanks UWS. A Leeds win would be a superb early birthday present for BD.
THere is a lady with a French #12 shirt. Did TH wear 12 for France?
I am going to check some pics
Yes he did
Can Leeds hold on for 20 more minutes for a nice pay day at Elland Road
There are Carling Cup Semis tomorrow and Wednesday as well as Spurs vs Everton in the EPL on Wednesday.
It should have been us v Cardiff
Exactly and then perhaps an all Manc Carling Cup Final.
Henry has only had the one miscontrol and that is it
Nice defending.. twice.. by the Leeds defense
A long cross is off of Aidy White for an Arsenal corner . This time O'Dea heads away a cross for a corner.
Leeds clear the short corner.
Leeds have defended superbly this match.
Ross McCormack is on for Becchio.
Do you think BD would prefer a draw and a replay at ER or a Leeds victory tonight?
I was trying, unsuccessfully, to figure out how long Suarez' ban goes. He took the ban so his 8 games could go quick in the hectic season. Will he be back for the Cup tie?
His last game was Newcastle....I think.
He then missed City, Cup tie, both League Cup ties, Bolton and then it is United... I think he might still be banned
Szezny prevents a corner, but his poor clearance is straiohgt to Yorkshire Nani who shoots right back to Szezny.
Leeds victory.. they got a draw last season.. and lost
Great tackle by Thompson on Arshavin who has basically marked Arshavin out of the game.
A corner knock out needlessly for another one at the back post.. Comes to nothing
GORDON BENNETT
HENRY SCORES!!!!!!!!!
BLOODY HELL! TH12 PUTS THE GUNNERS IN THE LEAD.
His first chance!!!
Becks is smiling!
Big hug from Arsene!!
It all came from that needless corner
It was a superb through ball by Sing and TH 12 scored with a typical finish in the corner with just Lonergan to beat.
Ws he offisde
Michael Brown shoots straight at Szezny from long range.
I am not sure if he was offside , but a shame that it came form a needless corner.
At least his celebration was good.... no silence
He's was onside
Leeds has a chance but the header goes right to the keeper
A great cross by Clayton from McCormack and Leonaris headed back to Szezny , but it could have easily been an OG.
Forsell on for the Yorkshire Nani
Mikkel Forssel is on for Yorkshire Nani. That is also rolling back the years.
Arsenal goal: So, there WAS a script tonight? It certainly looks that way. It could be 2004 all over again as Thierry Henry ghosts into the area to meet Alex Song's pass. He takes a touch then places the ball into the opposite corner. I think he might have enjoyed that, judging from his reaction.
Arse Shaven hehehehe, should have scored but hit the side netting... he stinks
To answer your question, I believe Suarez should still be banned for the Cup tie vs United. I think that would be the eigth match with my hurried calculations.
I agree. He has been marked out of the gaem by unknown Thompson. it was a really poor finish.
Under 10 to go
Leeds were quite confortable
So far it is good news for Steve and bad news for Bob.The rverse of the 1972 Cup Final.
Hope so... I will be back in a tic.. taking dinner to my father-in-law
I agree. What a shame for Leeds. Should they bring on Allan Clarke?
Cheers UWS. Take care.
I'm back from a good but hot first day at the Ebenezer Methodist School.
Wouldn't you Adam and Eve it - bloody Thierry Henry. (sigh)
We need a wing and a prayer now.
Henry is on loan for six and a half weeks, then back to MLS.
Hello BD. Sorry about the score. Grayson should have had Allan Clarke on the subs bench.
High and wide by Ramsey.
It looks like there will be three minutes of stoppage time.
OH! A great save by Szezny from Forssel off a pass from Townsend. Into stoppage time.
Sounds again as if Townsend is our bright spark today. I hope he becomes a regular transfer for us.
I am back for the last minute of added time
Naughty by TH12 by the corner flag and then Arshavin, but only Arshavin is booked. One minute remaining.
We're into stoppage time now, it appears. Definitely need a miracle now.
Welcome back, UWS. You are correct BD. Toownsend has been sharp today.
The final whistle blows and the Gunners dfeat leeds 1-0 as they host Villa in the fourth round.
Sorry Bob.
That's it
The Arse have won thanks to TH 12... everyone is thrilled at the EM
Sorry Bob... congrats Steve
Bring on Villa
Take care MUR
Talk to you soon
TTFN
Leeds made a good account of themselves and were unfortunatle undone by a good finish from TH12.
Heya, UWS - thanks for the coverage this afternoon. I notice that my bruv didn't take the Allan Clarke bait.
Cheers UWS. Take care.
Sorry Bob.
Congrats Steve.
Hey Bob... missed that you were here
Go for promotion
I really enjoyed the Allan Clarke post . CLASSIC!
I agree with UWS. Go for promotion.
Ah well...
It wasn't to be today, was it? The FA Cup has been a hiding to nothing for us for many years, unfortunately. Back to the regular agenda now - survival in the Premiership.
Cheerio, lads!
Cheers BD! Have fun in Belize.
Hey Belize-boy,
I countered your Sniffer Clarke poke with some full-on mojo of my own, watching a replay of Ian Wright-Wright-Wright's brace that knocked you out in the quarters some years ago. Jesus, the pitch at the El was like Ypres.
Hope you're having a great time despite this hiccup. Cheeers.
