Let's Have Another One, Lads!

Another FA Cup 3rd Round match; another old rival, eh? Someone at the FA must have a healthy sense of humor. I'll likely be out at Ebenezer Methodist School for most of the proceedings this afternoon, but I thought I'd start the thread with the hope that the Mighty Whites can pull out another famous win against the Gunners. MOT!

1800 FOOTBALL: Opta Sports on Twitter: "1 - Arsenal have only lost one FA Cup home game in the Arsene Wenger era, but that was against Leeds United (0-1 in Feb 1997). Giants."

I read on the FSC web site that Wenger is fileding a full strength lineup "in the hopes that history does not repeat itself." Wenger claims the replay at ER was an extra match they didn't need and he feels that led to their donfall last season.

1954: The TV cameras are showing Thierry Henry's reaction every time Arsenal have a pop on goal. He is deep in conversation most of the time and it would make it easier for non lip-readers to know what he was thinking if he could hold up a little sign in future... eg 'my statue could do better than that' for those last two efforts.

1957: Leeds' best moments (from a very subdued start) have come when Tottenham loanee Andros Townsend has tried to escape down the left flank, and he has already won a couple of free-kicks. Francis Coquelin is the latest man to take him out, and this time Leeds elect to pump the ball forward rather than back towards their own goal. Good thinking, that.

Why are Leeds wearing dark blue?
Apparently, red didn't clash with white in 1972 but it does today!

Leeds have a decent chace. Becchio hits one over.. shame

Leeds break well... they have their first corner at the 32 minutes... a short one!!

They then get called offside!

Leeds are just waiting for the second half so they can score in front of their own fans

good afternoon UWS. I see that it is 0-0 at halftime. A great halftime score for Leeds.

3:39 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Yes. That is correct. They met last season and the Gunners needed a last minute pen from Cesc to stay in the cup.

3:42 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Spurs vs Everton on Wednesday will pit Brad vs Landy.

3:43 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Will TH 12 come on as a sub as Scholes did yesterday?

3:47 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The second half kicks off from the EM.

3:47 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

TH 12 gets a standing ovation as he warms up on the touchline.

3:48 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Oxlade-Chamberlain cuts insdie two Leeds dfenders then shoots wide when a pass was a better option.

3:49 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Useless pass by Arteta.

3:49 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Arsenal have been camped just outside the Leeds box the opening minutes of the half.

3:51 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Thompson concedes a corner after tackling Arshavin. Longergan punches away the corner from Arteta, then Oxlade-Chamberlains cross is overcooked.

3:52 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Again great defending by Thompson on Arashavin, then Leeds break and Yorkshire Nani wins a corner.

3:53 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Wenger is pissed as Arshavin volleys high and wide from a great position where both a pass and shot were on.

3:54 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Another Arsenal corner off a cross from Arshavin intended for Chamakh. Miquel has a header off the corner deflected fo another corner.

3:55 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Lonergan punches away the corner and the Gunners keep possession.

3:56 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Lonergan does well to save a shot from Arteta off a pass from Oxlade-Chamberlain. The announcer says that was Arsenal's first shot on target tonight.

3:57 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Arshavin shoots wdie with just Lonergan to beat off a poor backpass from Vareinen. A reprieve for the dark blues.

3:58 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It's all Arsenal as Leeds cannot win the ball back.

3:59 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Now Leeds break through Aidy White then give the ball away , but Lees headed a cross away for a corner. Lonergan easily catches the corner.

4:00 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

The Leeds break was off a blocked shot from Oxlade-Chamberlain.

4:07 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Good run by Townsend and should have gotten a corner but the linesman didn't see it... he gets booked for kicking the ball away

Henry about to come on along with Walcott who is wearing his #14

4:07 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A standing ovation as TH12 is about to come on.

4:07 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Would that make Theo the new TH14?

4:08 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Standing ovation for Walcott.... I mean TH #12!!!!!

They can't come on.. the ball won't go out of play

4:08 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

That would TW 14

4:08 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I feel sorry for Townsend. He was unlucky , but should not have kicked the ball away. Punishment for being on loan from Spurs?

4:09 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Townsend looks dangerous!

4:09 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Still no stop of play... finally Chamberlin hits one out

Theo on for Oxlade-Chamberlain and TH12 on for the useless Chamakh and a predictable standing ovation.

Exactly and then perhaps an all Manc Carling Cup Final.

4:14 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Henry has only had the one miscontrol and that is it

4:15 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Nice defending.. twice.. by the Leeds defense

4:15 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A long cross is off of Aidy White for an Arsenal corner . This time O'Dea heads away a cross for a corner.

4:15 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Leeds clear the short corner.

4:16 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Leeds have defended superbly this match.

4:16 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Ross McCormack is on for Becchio.

4:16 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Do you think BD would prefer a draw and a replay at ER or a Leeds victory tonight?

4:17 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

I was trying, unsuccessfully, to figure out how long Suarez' ban goes. He took the ban so his 8 games could go quick in the hectic season. Will he be back for the Cup tie?

His last game was Newcastle....I think.
He then missed City, Cup tie, both League Cup ties, Bolton and then it is United... I think he might still be banned

4:18 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Szezny prevents a corner, but his poor clearance is straiohgt to Yorkshire Nani who shoots right back to Szezny.

4:18 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Leeds victory.. they got a draw last season.. and lost

4:19 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Great tackle by Thompson on Arshavin who has basically marked Arshavin out of the game.

4:19 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

A corner knock out needlessly for another one at the back post.. Comes to nothing

Blogger United We Stand said...

Big hug from Arsene!!

4:21 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

It all came from that needless corner

4:21 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

It was a superb through ball by Sing and TH 12 scored with a typical finish in the corner with just Lonergan to beat.

4:21 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Ws he offisde

4:21 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Michael Brown shoots straight at Szezny from long range.

4:22 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I am not sure if he was offside , but a shame that it came form a needless corner.

4:22 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

At least his celebration was good.... no silence

He's was onside

Leeds has a chance but the header goes right to the keeper

4:23 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

A great cross by Clayton from McCormack and Leonaris headed back to Szezny , but it could have easily been an OG.

4:23 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Forsell on for the Yorkshire Nani

4:24 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

Mikkel Forssel is on for Yorkshire Nani. That is also rolling back the years.

4:24 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Arsenal goal: So, there WAS a script tonight? It certainly looks that way. It could be 2004 all over again as Thierry Henry ghosts into the area to meet Alex Song's pass. He takes a touch then places the ball into the opposite corner. I think he might have enjoyed that, judging from his reaction.

4:24 PM
Blogger United We Stand said...

Arse Shaven hehehehe, should have scored but hit the side netting... he stinks

4:25 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

To answer your question, I believe Suarez should still be banned for the Cup tie vs United. I think that would be the eigth match with my hurried calculations.

4:25 PM
Blogger manunitedrules said...

I agree. He has been marked out of the gaem by unknown Thompson. it was a really poor finish.

4:26 PM

It looks like there will be three minutes of stoppage time.

4:32 PM

Hope you're having a great time despite this hiccup. Cheeers.
