The Glory of Saturday!
If it's Saturday morning, it's time to brew some strong coffee, toast up a bagel and sit back and relax in front of some of the beautiful game. West Ham are up first this morning followed by the debut of Evil Leeds under the tutelage of Neil Warnock for the first time. Oh - and there are a few Premiership matches on today as well. Join me?

Morning, lads. First up is the early kick off in the Championship with table toppers West Ham taking on their London rivals Crystal Palace. Here are the teams out of Upton Park today:
West Ham - Green, O'Brien, Reid, Faye, McCartney, Noble, Tomkins, Faubert, Collison, Maynard, Vaz Te. Subs - Baldock, Cole, Lansbury, O'Neil, Potts.
Palace - Speroni, McShane, McCarthy, Gardner, Parr, Zaha, Dikgacol, Jedinak, Ambrose, Easter, Martin. Subs - Price, Garvan, Scannell, Murray, O'Keefe.
I've got a link up for Soccer Saturday now:
http://www.firstrowsports.eu/watch/109655/1/watch-soccer-saturday.html
Great discussion with the Merse and Charlie Nicholas about Arsenal and Wenger.
Alert the authorities - the only link I seem to be able to get up for the Hammers v. Palace is through an Al Jazeera stream here:
http://www.firstrowsports.eu/watch/109660/5/watch-west-ham-united-vs-crystal-palace.html
Finally - the pre-game coverage has started on Al Jazeera.
Crikey - the Merse is praying for a draw in the North London Derby tomorrow morning.
The Hammers are still on a high from a miraculous high in mid-week when Rob Green was sent off and Arsenal loanee Henri Lansbury went in goal as Fat Sam hadn't picked a keeper for the bench!
Kick off time at Upton Park - the home side get us underway.
The Hammers start a point clear at the top but also a match in hand on Soton in second.
Palace, on the other hand, are a strictly bottom half side - in 13th at present.
A typically committed start for a Championship match but not a lot of quality so far at Upton Park.
Oh dear - the stretcher is out for Tomkins and he looks like he won't be able to continue. Carlton Cole being prepared to come on.
Decent free kick chance now for Palace - wasted.
Still 0-0 at Upton Park nearing half-time now.
I think this match is showing why West Ham aren't running away with this league. They're certainly not a good side to watch, despite their combative spirit and organization. Typical Fat Sam side.
UWS has his NocitoSportscenter strategy of following every sport under the sun. Mine alternative is having Chris Hayes' "Up" show on MSNBC on while I've got the match on the laptop - a footie/politics fusion.
After five tedious minutes of stoppage time, we've finally reached half-time at the Boleyn Ground. Still 0-0 of course.
Good morning BD. I just woke up after getting some extra kip. I will miss the other matches because Melanie has a recital this morning.
Palace are about to get us started in the second half at Upton Park. I'm hoping for better.
Morning, MUR! Welcome!
Good morning BD. I will be in and out this match. getting ready for the recital. It is time for a much needed shower. I will be back in a few minutes.
Their weather is a lot better than ours this morning!
Sure thing; sounds like you've got a busy but fun day ahead of you.
Just wide by Carlton Cole after being put through by Nicky Maynard. It started with a horrible back pass from Wilfred Zaha.
We sure do. We will be attending a concert put on the Harlingen music teachers this evening too.
Vaz Te looks as if he's trying out for a Cameo tribute band. Haven't seen a barnet like that in twenty years!
Off to shower . I will be back in a few minutes.
He used to play for Fat Sam at Bolton.
Midway through the second half - still 0-0.
Great save by Speroni from Baldock. Still 0-0 with fifteen minutes plus stoppage time remaining.
A clearance hits the side of Fat Sam's head. X marks the spot!
George McCartney wins a corner off of Zaha.
The corner is headed behind for another Hammers corner. The next one is cleared.
Palace break, but Glen Murray is offside. This seems destined to end in a 0-0 draw.
Palace make a change as Garvan is on for Chris Martin.
If this ends in a draw then Sotton would move into top spot with a victory later today.
A little over five minutes to play at Upton Park. This result would allow Soton to take the top spot with a win today at Watford.
Green does well to gather a cross from Zaha in front of Murray.
This match is not exactly a barn burner. The Hammers have been slow and predictable. At least they don't play the long ball like Fat Sam's other sides.
A Pathetic throw as McCartney should know not to be offside.
I suppose the highlight was that clearance that hit Fat Sam - a big target, to be fair.
Hammers fans leave early disappointed with their team's performance.
It must have been.
A late free kick for Palace. The free kick from Jedinak, the Aussie , is straight to Green.
Four minutes of stoppage time.
Green gathers at the feet of Murray.
A late chance for the Hammers as a volley from Winston Reid deflected off of Thompkins straight to Speroni.
Two East London derbies in a row for the Hammers.
After the mid-week heroics for ten man Hammers, this will be a let down.
A free kick from Noble is headed out and Collison volleys wide. That should be it.
Oh - what a miss by Collison there. He could have won the whole shebang there.
I agree. A lame performance for the Hammers.
This match is put out of its misery and ends 0-0.
That's that, then. 0-0. Two dropped points.
Cheers BD. Great chatting with you. I will be back for the end of the late match or early tomorrow morning.
I'm on to Soccer Saturday. I'll need to fire up the "Marching on Together" in a moment ahead of our kick-off at Pompey.
Cheerio, mate. Today is just the appetizer for an epic day tomorrow. Enjoy the concert!
Here's the team news out of Fratton Park today:
Portsmouth: Henderson, Rocha, Ben-Haim, Pearce, Ward, Mokoena, Mullins, Halford, Thorne, Allan, Futacs. Subs: Webster, Ashdown, Benjani, Norris, Harris.
United: Lonergan, Bruce, Lees, O'Dea, Pugh, Snodgrass, Brown, Clayton, White, McCormack, Becchio. Subs: Paynter, Forssell, Sam, Thompson, Bromby
Referee: P Gibbs
Morning BD, sorry I missed you MUR
I watched the end of the Hammers' match on FSC +... two points dropped
Thanks for the Soccer Saturday link
Not sure I am rooting too much for your lot today. Warnock is one reason and Pompey needs the points badly!
The big match on FSC is beleaguered AVB and his Chelski boys against relegation battlers Bolton. Should be fascinating.
Morning, UWS! Great to have you on board.
We're off at the Bridge
I can't believe hearing that AVB is blaming Stamford Bridge for not being intimidating enough
Where did MUR go off to?
Did you get my Dennis Law video?
Goal somewhere... at the Hawthorns
To West Brom
Onewinge with the goal... he got a hat-trick last time against Wolves... he's a Defoe... a big ball hog
MUR had to take his daughter Melanie to a concert. How's your weekend looking?
I did see the NostraDennis thread. Nice one!
A bad start for the new Wolves regime.
Oh - Bogdan saves well from Sturridge.
Typical Merson - "Mulumba" is "Owumba." He needs some diction and sensitivity training.
Fulham have it in the net...but it's ruled offside, rightly so says Chris K.
Fulham have taken the lead at Loftus Road
Hughesie won't be pleased
That match is on FSC +. I still get the channel until the end of the month
Oh - great through ball to Lamps who gets past Bogdan but can't square the ball back.
The Toon have taken the lead through Papass Cisse
Newcastle new boy Cisse has his second goal for the club. Wolves under the cosh early doors. All the goal action in the Prem so far. No goals as yet in the Champ.
Jeff's not best pleased - his beloved Hartlepool are behind at Wycombe.
Even more less pleased
Who did Leeds beat last week after being two down?
Paolo DiCanio's Swindon have taken the lead against Who?
Exactly
Donny - who are bottom of the table, which should be an easy win, not one we gut out in the 96th minute.
The SS link that you gave earlier is going well but the bloody COMMERCIALS!
Have you noticed that Newcastle only have a +1 GD. Amazing for a 4th place team.
I know, I know - the pop ups are annoying. I just have the audio on in the background - I don't usually watch it.
Celtic are under real pressure to win at home to Motherwell... they really need to go TWENTY-THREE POINTS ahead of Rangers!
Sotton go top of the table with a goal at Watford
Pompey on top against Leeds
Millwall take the lead at Turf Moor
Wolves are two down to Newcastle... Top four?
They are right now
First two goals in the Championship. Evil Millwall takes the lead at Burnley - that helps us - and Soton takes the lead at Watford and the top of the table.
Boro are one down at home to Reading
Did you see Leeds' Townsend left ER for Boro on loan?
He's on loan from Spurs
Don't want to hear it - put a sock in it, mate.
Did Townsend really not like Warnock or vice versa
Really? He scored for us last weekend. When did that deal go through?
Why do I have to put a sock in it?
Brighton have taken the lead against Brighton.
Ipswich have been on a roll.. four straight wins
It was this week
oh, Pompey on top!
Steve Bruce's son Alex has lasted only ten minutes - Leigh Bromby is on for him now.
Our old boy Andy Keogh is the Millwall goal-scorer. Keogh was actually an Academy kid at LUFC.
Schtum!
I was wrong... he joined Birmingham on loan
Wolves have dropped two places down to 19th just on the basis of goal difference now. That's how tight it is at the bottom.
Bugger - Brighton have taken the lead. I was hoping for some help from the Tractor Boys today.
Half way through the first half at SB - no goals as of yet.
Second goal at Vicarage Road... to Southampton... two up and top of the table
Le Tis is a happy chappy
The crowd is really quiet at the Bridge. Chelski fans not happy at all with their side.
With all this computer stuff.. i tend not to pay attention to the TV
Soton look definite for promotion - two promotions in a row. Are they good enough to stay up, though?
Norwich did the same and they're almost safe already!
I'm glad that you're enjoying your new Mac.
That is true.
Luv it.... but I need to follow the tv more
I don't know what I am going to do tomorrow morning.
I guess I will have to find a link for the North London derby so I can have the United match on the TV. I would be behind with the link probably
Bogdan is keeping Bolton in this one - marvelous save from Drogs.
The top two aren't that far ahead of Reading
Right now it is
Sotton 62
West Ham 61
Reading 57
Brum 55
Is there coverage of the North London derby?
Good news for Leeds
Blackpool losing at Aston Gate
Who are they are two down to Swindon
That's better news - lowly Bristol City are 1-0 up over Blackpool!
Never heard of them....who?
Yes, the London derby is on FSC at 8:30 tomorrow morning. The Norwich United match is on FSC + at the same time.
The League Cup Final follows the match at the Em
Forest winning at St. Andrews... not good news for Pompey
Burnley two down to Millwall
Yeah - that's magic. I'll have the United match on the laptop and the North London derby on the telly. Might have a friend over as well. Should be an excellent morning.
QPR are down to ten men... AGAIN
Two yellows for some bloke I've never heard of
Wow - Forest are 0-1 up at Brum. Great news!
Not for Pompey
This would be an excellent time for a Leeds goal. Just saying....
Couldn't give a toss about Pompey today. Sorry.
If the scores stay the same... Pompey will be three points adrift in the drop zone
I don't like to see teams that really have enough points go down
Still no singing from the Chelski faithful. They're just standing there with their hands folded looking really arsed off.
I know and fair enough
I am just not on your side as much as I am usually... for this week
This is the last match for Robbbie Keane for Villa today. WHy did TH leave early. Don't loans end March 1?
It's Diakite's debut for QPR and all. Off he goes. He's on loan from Nancy.
AdrianDonohue1 on Twitter: "It's going to be wonderfully ironic if the two sides that sacked their managers go down and the ones that stuck it out stay up."
I'm not sure what the loan situation is with MLS boys.
Bolton should have done better there!
Get a shot off... I would have buried it!
Goal somewhere... at WBA... to West Brom
Simon Grayson's Huddersfield take he lead
I'm a bit goal starved. Both matches I've watched this morning have been nil-nillers.
Of course - Huddersfield look like they may go up. Grayson will come back to haunt us next season.
I think he might
Bates needs to bugger off
Will Martin O'Neill get the sack soon?
Danny Pugh has picked up a yellow.
Half-time at the Bridge - the natives are restless.
ht whistle goes at the Bridge... not good for the Blues.... keep it going
Donny take a late lead against the Young Fergie lads
The spitter with the goal
I am back from doing the dishes and I have lost the control of the TV.
Matt has turned on college basketball
Spitty Diouf has been doing well for Donny. He scored against us last weekend.
Matt should be severely reprimanded for that behavior. Yellow card offense at least.
Just had a bit of the "Leeds United Calypso" round the kitchen whilst doing the dishes.
I just went to the ESPN website and they have scores at the top of the page... it isn't the NBA or college basketball ... is is the premier league!
GOAL! David Luiz! He can't defend for toffee but he's fired the Blues into the lead!
Chelsea take the lead ... i missed it
BBC's Tony Husband at the Championship game between Portsmouth and Leeds
"Relentless chanting from fans at Fratton Park 'we will never die'. Great atmosphere."
The Baggies are three up!
Did they just say Demba Ba is hurt?
Which set of fans is chanting that, though?
I would think the Pompey fans because their club might do it!
Oh - Reo-Coker should have equalized there after some decent play from Bolton.
I'd love to Blackburn survive just for Keen's benefit
A win today at the Etihad would be a good start
I'm sure you'd love that. Don't see it happening.
Jeff says back to "St James' Park".. naughty boy.... Wolves get a goal back
Oh... it's going to happen!!!
Now David Luiz is back in the left back position clearing the ball out. Does he think he can play any position?
Not a good display here by Sunderland. They visit Newcastle next week
Why is Jeff "naughty?"
THere is no international break coming up because they are only friendlies. The England Holland match is on FSC on Wednesday
Oh - now David Luiz has headed one off the post! He's all over the pitch!
He said "St. James' Park"
It is Direct Sports Arena
A fan got arrested for painting it on the wall of the stadium
I'll look forward to that one. You'll be back at work (tee hee hee).
shut it!!
I 'll be home for kick off
It's still St. James's to me too. I still refuse to call "National Airport" "Reagan Airport." That's a nonsense.
I know they said that Demba Ba was hurt but I guess he is alright
Blackpool tie it up against Bristol C
Bugger.
I agree with you too!
It is always going to be SJP
I am actually quite stunned that Old Trafford has been able to survive... United usually go for money and sell the naming rights
We need a goal! Come on, you Whites!
Brum have tied it up against Forest
GOAL! Drogs with Chelski's second!
Goal at the Bridge
2-0
Drogs
They'll breathing easy at Parkhead.... they are now 23 points ahead of Rangers with that goal against Motherwell
Easy peasy. Corner over and Drogs got up well to nod home. Miyachi on the post probably should have cleared.
2-0!
Again, I don't have the TV to see the match but it doesn't really bother me much
Chelski are now back in 4th a point clear of Newcastle.
Not a lot to shout about except for Leeds hitting the crossbar and netting the rebound but being offside
Chelski aren't a threat to you lot. It's a two-horse race with Spurs only a slight irritation.
We wuz robbed, of course.
Come on, you Whites!
Englad and Wales are on live from Twickenham on BBC America!
The Sun is being published on a Sunday for the first time ever... taking the place of the News of the World
Clever commercial there from Annie
'the Sun'll come out tomorrow
You're on the rugger beat today, are you NocitoSportscenter?
Every sport here from Glenville
Ipswich are two down... bugger
I'd never buy The Scum.
What time is it, UWS?
STRUTH.. WOLVES HAVE TIED IT UP
Sorry mate... I can't say it today
Forest are ahead again... not good news for Pompey
Wow - playing for the new gaffer, no doubt.
You're letting us down, mate.
I guess Demba Ba was okay
Charlie sounds really bored while watching Wigan Villa
For today only... if Pompey had the 35 points they earned... I would have been on your side
Good news for us, though.
"Leeds have been fantastic in the second half"
Looks like Hartlepool have conceded #5
That's what I like to hear. Two late ones from Ross and Luciano, please. That would take us above Hull into 9th.
No singing from Jeff today, then.
Looking at all the scores from League 1, there are two teams missing... both from Sheffield
Looks like the Steel City derby tomorrow or later in the week... I bet you the crowd will be bigger than most of the Championship games AND some of the Prem
Just looked it up.. it is at Hillsborough.. that will make the crowd even bigger
I would guess close to 30,000
Millwall are three up at Burnley
