Sunday Morning Footer
So we have two more games to follow this morning on FSC. We open up with Arsenal visiting Stoke still looking for their first goal of the season. The next match is the big one as Liverpool hosting the 'champions'. It is a no lose situation. If Liverpool beat Citeh that is good for United. If Citeh beat Pool then they are still rock bottom! I will be here for the first match but I am off to Tom's first game of the season this afternoon. Text updates will be required

Arsenal have only won one of their past SIX Premier League
Morning, UWS - thanks for the thread. Looking forward to this one. I was just about to post a thread and was looking for an image of Arsenal and Stoke. I couldn't find one that didn't feature a player who has since left the club - e.g., RVP, Song, Arshavin.
It's a new day for the Gunners. They usually hate playing Stoke - will this side be any different?
Good morning BD and UWS. Great post/ I am looking forward to these fixtures.
It's a Rangers battle and the Rangers lead 0-1 at Berwick Rangers in the second half . As I type Berwick Rangers tie it up . Andrew Little has scored five league goals for the Glasgow version.
Morning, MUR - pretty hot here again today. Will get up to the mid-80s.
They're off from the Britannia as American International, Jeff Cameron, makes his his Stoke debut, soon to be joined by Maurice Edu
The Britannia looking sparkling today. I don't notice the rain of yesterday.
Hot here too
Morning boys
Hello BD. I will take the mid 80s Another hot day expected here. It's been in the mid to upper 90s. Hope you have a chance to sun bathe.
Gervinho is getting whistled. What's the Stoke fan's problem with the Ivorian?
No sunbathing for me today - I'm trying to finish up a book proposal this afternoon.
Vito Mannone , the young Italian, is in goal for the Gunners , who display their new Purple and black kit.
Arsenal seem to follow United with their shirt colors
Awhile back, United had gold away shirts.... then Arsenal did
United had black and blue away shirts... look at the Arsenal shirt today.. very close
Jeff Cameron getting stuck in. He's really enjoying his debut. Hope you you can stay cool inside as I wish you the best on the book.
Only three minutes in and we've already got a long throw into the area. No Rory Delap today but Cameron's got a long throw on him. Tedious.
Agreed UWS. They should call them the London United Red Devils. Thanks to them for developing RVP for us.
That's a good point, UWS. Arsenal are creating their pretty patterns, but no penetration yet.
The Potters going American as Mo Edu is part of the group jumping ship at Rangers as he will join Jeff Cameron at Stoke.
Infostrada Sports on Twitter: "Arsenal have won their opening Premier League away game of the season only once in the last seven years, losing on four occasions."
Walters has the ball in the net but the flag is up.
Ball in the net but offside.. just
Stoke have a goal disallowed for offside as Walters was just offside as Crouch headed on a long throw that started with a great run by Michael Kightly.
Including preseason, it's been four consecutive 1-1 draws for Stoke and it wouldn't surprise me to see another today
I cannot believe that Wenger hasn't dipped into the transfer market this week to replace RVP and especially Song. There are loads of players who are unsettled that would be good additions:
Karim Benzema
Robert Lewandowski
Daniele DeRossi
etc.
A lunge by Wilkinson as he blocks from Podolski for a corner that is easily cleared after great football from the Gunners.
I think that was a penalty... he purposely dove in front of the ball and it hit his arm
Those players would all be great fits for the Gunners, BD.
According to the Stoke fans now, Arsene Wenger enjoys a bit of intimate time with himself. Who knew?
I think so too after looking at the replay, UWS. That would have been a red card too
I don't think Wilkinson knew much about that. He was falling but it was a natural motion - didn't move the arm toward the ball.
It wouldn't surprise me, BD.Great lyrics from the Stoke fans.
Cazorla seems to be the one who's picking out the killer passes, as there for Podolski's head - offside called.
I agree with UWS. I think Wilkinson knew what he was doing and used his experience to get away with it.
Nice move through Gibbs down the left. Nearly picked out a teammate with the cross. Dangerous.
I guess I'm a paid up member of the Defender's Union.
Interesting effort there from Giroud - nearly hit the corner flag!
Nice run by Podolski there and he's uprooted by his big compatriot Robert Huth. Good free kick chance here.
Santi Carzola has slotted in perfectly as ex Gunner, Robert Huth, is booked for a foul on Podolski in the D.
Looks like Cazorla is going to hit this one....
Two bites from Cazorla - nothing doing.
Into the wall by Carzola, then he shoots the rebound miles wide..
Arsen complaining about bullying? Doesn't he do that before and after every fixture?
Interesting that Arteta has slotted into the Arsenal side in a more defensive role than I remembered him playing at Everton.
I'd like to see a manager who just sits and watches the match in silence. I'm sick and tired of the antics.
More wasted opportunities there by Arsenal. Why didn't Diaby hit that one?
To be fair, Arsenal have looked the more likely.
A great possession by Arsenal is ruined by a shocking cross from Kieran Gibbs, but he makes amends by winning a tackle as Stoke countered
I agree with you about the antics . It is getting rather old and I also agree that Arsenal has looked the more likely to score. They have done well ,considering they struggle in these type of fixtures.
Stoke's only option seems to be to lump it forward, despite the comments of the color guy earlier.
Typical Gunners as a great run by Podolski is ruined by a useless finish by Carzola, harmlessly to Begovic. Then Walters is flagged offside.
Bloody Jekinson is starting for the Gunners at right back. I don't think the Gunners have ever won a match that he ha s started.
I'm not seeing enough movement from Arsenal's two front-runners - Gervinho and Giroud. All the danger is coming through Cazorla and Podolski.
Miles over from Podolski.
Yeah - I agree; Jenkinson is second rate. Sagna's out with a broken leg.
I am back after a bit o breakie.... scrambled eggs on toast with some bacon... yummy!
My wife is wonderful
Berwick and Rangers have drawn... how the mighty have fallen
I thought RVP's movement was good...sorry.. wrong team
Wilkinson straight to Mannone.
Say 'hi' to Kathy for me.
I'm sure that there were a lot of Gooners who looked at RVP's goal yesterday and sighed, "Ah, yeah, I remember those."
Good strike by Kightly, well saved by Mannone.
Same here, UWS. Great brekkies. Also agree withyou about RVP as he opened his account with a typical first class goal. Also agree with you about Rangers. They did lose there in the Scottish Cup in 1967
Mertesacker and Diaby seem to be doing a nice job on Crouchie. They're not going to win the headers with him bu they can put enough pressure on him that he can't get a free header off in the right direction.
Wilson hacks Cazorla. Should probably go into the book for that.
Naughty by Marc Wilson on Carzola. Antics from Arsene?
Good free kick routine but Cazorla shanked it wide right.
The Spanish combo does not work as the short free kick from Arteta to Carzola is a flop as the latter shoots well wide.
Where's UWS gone now? He's come on, buggered off for breakfast and now? In the bog?
This is a good chance for Stoke. Pennant will lump it into the box.
The Rory Delap towel is still in effect at the Britannia.
Oh - Gervinho could have found Podolski but he kept running to the by-line.
Back from the loo and still 0-0
The Stoke fans behind the benches are really having a go at Arsene now.
I saw the run by Gervinho as I bogged the bog. Sunny side up for UWS?
Arsene looking professorial today. IS he applying for a position at the Sorbonne?
Podolski counters for the Gunners as he winbs a corner off of Whelan after crosses from Cameron and Kightly were headed out by Jekinson and Gibbs repsectively.
Giroud seems off the pace to me. They need a proper striker.
The corner from Carzola was headed out and Jekinson in typical fashion lost possession, but Podalski won it back and lost possession thanks to great defending from Shawcross.
I guess Podalski is the closest they have. They have until Friday evening to rectify that
Poor long ball from Podolski, who otherwise, has ha d a great first half.
I'd like to see us do a bit of business as well.
Lewandowki would be a great striker for the Gunners as Dortmund seem intent on selling off the side that won the Bundesliga.
Arsenal have a late corner chance now.
Agreed, BD. That would help in a typically tight Championship. Into stoppage time as Wilkinson tackles Gervinho for a corner.
Yeah - I'd buy Lewandowski and his Polish mate on the wing.
Shawcross heads out the corner from Carzola for another
I am still around but busy running around the house
I have had a spotty start to the season... I think you guys may fine me
Half time and Arsenal have still not scored
Stoke clear the next Carzola corner and it is 0-0 at the half.
Half-time at the Britannia and it's the same old story for Arsenal. No goals yet for Gooners to celebrate in this new season. I'm goal-starved.
Possession 70-30... I haven't seen that
Will do, UWS.We will assign you to the Anfield boot room for the next four matches!
Not a single goal in an Arsenal match as it was 0-0 last week and the same at the half.
I am off for walkies with Kath and Shad... we'll be back
The second half is underway from the Brittania
I am back from a very short walk.. Shadow didn't want to go far!
Second half underway
Yellow card for UWS for spottiness. I think he was in the bog during the first half.
I think so too. I assigned him to the Anfield boot room.
No I was not.. but I may visit it soon
Good to have you back from the walkies, UWS. However, I suspect it was a half-time shag with the missus. Not buying it.
I am busy being a host to one of Tom's teammates who is staying with us. He is from York! He will be here until next weekend when he moves into a house up near the college with 3 other English guys who have come over to play
The guys came over last night for dinner. As I said, one is from York, the other from London and two of them are from... wait for it... Bury St. Edmunds!!!
Sounds like Tom's team have made the summer acquisitions that Arsenal should have.
You just keep believing that BD!
Theo and Ramsey getting warmed up. Corner to the Arse.
Great job, UWS. I agree with BD that Tom did a better job than the Gunners did.
Shadow seems to require a great deal of "walking." Hmmm.....
Naughty from BD.
This match could use some walkies.
Vermaelen blocks a header from Crouch off a long throw from Jeff Cameron.
Hey, that's an old ruse from way back. When we were in Mildenhall, "walking the dog" meant a pint of Abbot Ale down the Half Moon for Gooner and me.
Maybe, MUR - but who's going to shag each other - Pulis and Wenger?
That's a scary image, BD. I guess I'll take the 0-0 draw and based on past history, who knows what went on at halftime.I don't think it was Abbott Ale.
Pennant goes to ground but the referee isn't fussed about it.
I don't think it was a pen as Pennant went down rather easily under minimal contact from Gibbs,
UWS is off again - more "dogwalking?"
Wenger and Pulis . Shag with the spectacles. I can see the headlines as I type!
Which is really what???
Oh - Podolski had a chance there but just served his cross up for Begovic to snatch out of the air.
IS dog walking the signings from Bury St. Edmunds and York?
Horrible pass from Mannone, then he blames his teammate for his shocking pass
Marc Wilson heads out the cross from Podolski for a corner.
"English college soccer players?" "Scrambled eggs and toast?" I don't believe a word of it.
Another Carzola corner and another clearance.
Arteta is awarded a free kick off the clearance as the Gunners maintain possession.
Oh - Cameron sticks his leg in late and gets a yellow card. Right on the edge of the box.
Agreed, BD.IS he training these players for SAF? There is another agenda .
I have had it from both of you... I AM OFF TO THE LOO!!!!
They must make something of this....
Wilkinson is booked for a foul just outside the box.
I'll stay for the free kick as Stoke tackle like Dahlgren!
Arteta hits it and it's goes straight into the wall.
In the wall
I am off to the bog
Into the wall from Arteta as we are accused of horrible behavior.
I was never that dirty.
Cameron Jerome is on for Jermaine Pennant.
Another road trip? Horrible accusations hurled at BD!
Steve Bould is a former Gunner and Potter as he is coaching the Stoke defenders.
Another Arsenal corner now....Cazorla needs to get a decent ball over.
Giroud had a chance!
Arsene has seen enough - Theo seems to be readying.
A better effort as a long range Carzola effort is deflected just over for a corner.Djourou volleys into the ground and harmlessly wide off the Carzola corner. It fell to the wrong player
Stoke win a free kick off of Jekinson. Surprise Surprise!
Theo is on for Gervinho.
And the Ox is on for Podolski.
And OX is on for Podolski. I can see that as Podolski fizzled out of the match in the second half.
Oh - Arteta had a chance to curl one in. Didn't quite come off - well over!
Shanked horribly wide by Arteta
Oh - Diaby nearly got the chance to squeeze one in there. Not quite.
Are you being accused of being a potential Stoke signing, BD? You could join Jeff Cameron and Mo Edu
Now Diaby finishes poorly.
Gibbs crosses harmlessly to Begovic.
No thanks - Stoke are rubbish.
Stoke attack, but the head tennis in the Gunners box comes to naught.
I am back but now the dog apparently wants to go for a walk!!!
I understand, BD!
Hopefully, I can make him wait til then end
So there was alternate activity in the works. Spot on by BD!
a goal needed and Crouch comes off
Told you so!
Peter Crouch is replaced by Ryan Shotton, another long throw specialist, as he appears content to hold on to a 0-0 draw.
Great job scouting, BD!
There's definitely more "scoring" in the Nocito household this morning than at the Britannia.
Actually, probably more scoring at the average nunnery.
was that hand ball by Jekinson. That negates the Wilkinson decision in the first half.
Palacios is on - Pulis is settling for a point.
Agreed, BD. A better morning in Glenville than at the Potteries. Not a hand ball from Jekinson as Aaron Ramsey is on for Carzola.
Boos for Aaron Ramsey from the Stoke fans - he had the nerve to have his leg broken here two seasons ago.
OX wins a corner for the Gunners. Arteta to take,
headed just over by the OX. The closest chance of the match
I agree with you and Robbie Mustoe. Sickening behavior from the Stoke fans.
Another Arsenal corner to be taken by Arteta. It is headed away. Walters heads away a cross from Ramsey.
Ox fouls Shotton as a corner from Arteta is headed away by Walters
Oh - Walters was in there and just poked it at Mannone. Waste.
Stoke and Arsenal will remain in 11th and 12th respectively.
Great tackle by Jeff Cameron on Ramsey and a superb through ball, but Walters could not properly connect. The Gunners attack and Ramsey shoots well wide
I guess this better than losing 8-2.
Arteta called for a hold on Kightly.
Arsenal fans down in the dumps.
Great effort... just over!
Oh - Giroud went for the spectacular and it nearly came off!
Wenger wasn't happy
The free kick from Kightly is headed away by Mertesacker, then Ox tackles Palacios, puts Djourou through , who just misses from long range and a difficult angle. Nearly a winner
Arsenal giving it a go as we enter stoppage time.
I meant Giroud. Nearly a winner.Into stoppage time.
3 added minutes
three minutes of that as the Gunners look to start the season with two 0-0 draws. Not even 1-0 to the Arsenal.
One last long throw for Stoke.
Great clock management from the Potters.
Now one last chance for Arsenal.
One last chance for Arsenal.
Well, that Ox cross says it all. What a waste of an afternoon....
Useless cross from Ox and that should be that
What a horrible cross by the Ox... ENGLAND INTERNATIONAL!!
"Decent start to the season... two clean sheets"
THEY HAVEN'T SCORED!!!
Game over
Full-time - 0-0. I'm off for a shower.
That's it and the Gunners start the season with two 0-0 draws.
Arsenal visit Anfield next
I am off for a walk
Another one??? Are you a fitness fanatic????
I am back.. remember.. the first one was aborted by Shadow.
A nice long one just then
Back for kick off.. of course FSC go off for commercial instead of watching the teams come out of tunnel
I'm back from a shower and a quick chat with my dad and looking forward to this one.
