Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

thanks for your email, but it didn't contain a link. once more?
Hey boys, I'm joining you late as the Blogger site is giving me fits this afternoon. Can't access it on my office Mac but I'm now in the media center dialing it up.
Come on!
Penalty! A dream start for the England boys! A Moldovan numpty has handballed it in the area from Tom Cleverley's shot.
And Lamps takes care of biz....
England are 0-1 up! Wahay!
So that rationalizes the Lampard selection alongside Gerrard, usually a deadly pairing.
Here are the belated line-ups:
Moldova - Namasco, Armas, Epure, Balgaru, Golovate, Kovalchuk, Gatcan, Onica, Suvorov, Patras, Picusciac.
England - Hart, Johnson, Lescott, Terry, Baines, Milner, Lamps, Cleverley, The Ox, Gerrard, Defoe.
Subs - Ruddy, Walker, Bertrand, Cahill, Carrick, Jags, Walcott.
Another big chance for Gerrard this time. Great double save by Namasco in the Moldovan goal.
Oh - The Ox with an acrobatic effort on goal but Namasco is literally keeping Moldova in this tie. England could be 0-3 up.
I've got used to FSC turning down the crowd noise on their broadcasts but the crowd is deafening on this link today.
In two other matches involving home international sides, Russia have defeated Norn Ireland 2-0 and Kazakstan have been done over 1-2 at home by the Republic.
The England Brass Band is in full effect tonight.
Patras tries a poke from long distance but Hart isn't really that bothered.
One way traffic as we reach the half way mark of this first match.
I'm still not liking the idea of Gerrard playing in a forward role. It's clear that Woy is trying his best not to have Lamps and Gerrard tripping over themselves but we lose out in the end. I don't see the point of Lamps apart from converting pens (he's got three already this season). It probably won't matter that much in this match but in the future I'd like to see more attacking options than The Ox wide and Defoe as the lone front man, especially against mugs like this.
Oh - Glen Johnson tries a pop and Namasco bobbles it for once. The Ox nearly on to the rebound.
GOAL! Lamps gets his second with a rare headed goal!
Great ball in from Glen Johnson and Lamps timed his run perfectly between the two center backs to rise and nod home easily.
0-2!
Half an hour gone and we're cruising this one. The last time we met Moldova in the first qualifying match for a World Cup was in the fall of 1996 directly after Euro 96 and the score that time was 0-3.
GOAL! Ballhog Defoe with his trademark shot on the turn!
Great ball through there from Stevie G. and Defoe was on to it like a flash. Namasco will not want to watch the replay of that one as it went under him. They all count, eh?
0-3!!!!!
Gooner has just emailed me to say that he's hoping that The Ox will get on the scoresheet today. I agree. All the England forwards should be thinking of padding their stats today. Frank Lampard is on a bleedin' hat-trick, for gord's sake.
England fans in full voice now with a bit of the "God Bless Queenie" and why not have a bit of a sing-song. This has been excellent from the boys. Forget about the tactics. Against this kind of opposition, England simply have too many weapons.
Ballhog nearly has his brace there - good stop by Namasco there.
The commentator has suggested that Defoe got the start ahead of Danny Welbeck because he's been impressed by Defoe's start to the season. That seems a wee bit unfair as Spurs have been pants and Danny has been stuck on United's bench.
Good movement again from Defoe latching onto Cleverboy's ball but the shot is errant this time.
The first half is winding down.
Oh - closest that Moldova have got. A sharp header by Armas just wide of the post.
Half-time - Cor! That was fun. England have romped to a 0-3 lead over a simply woeful Moldovan side. You can only beat what's in front of you, file.
Speaking of which Portugal are being held to a 1-1 draw with bloody Luxemburg! Tee hee.
Wales are predictably 0-1 down at half-time a particularly strong Belgian side that features Thomas Vermaelen alongside goalscorer Vincent Kompany, Spurs new boy Mousa Dembele, Everton' Marouane Fellaini, and Chelski new boy Eden Hazard.
And we're away again in Moldova. I'd like to see a few more goals for the boys in white. But great effort so far.
Woy has made one change at the start of the second half. Michael Carrick on for Steven Gerrard. A bit defensive perhaps.
Unfortunately the pattern has been set for Carrick to put his foot on the ball. It doesn't look as if England have set out to do more damage.
Same pattern as that 1996 match when Glenda subbed out Gazza for David Batty when England got to 0-3 up.
This might make things a bit more interesting. Theo Walcott being readied on the touchline.
It's the Ox who is being replaced. So, no goal for the Arsenal man but a decent outing nonetheless.
LUFC Academy over the free kick now....
Mad scramble in the box there but it's cleared out.
Starting to nod off here as we reach the hour mark.
Postiga has knocked in a second goal for Portugal, who are now leading 2-1.
Uh oh - technical differences on the feed from Moldova so they've switched over to the Portugal match.
We're back on the Moldova feed then. Still 0-3 up. Not a lot happening.
GOAL! England basically try to walk the ball in before Jamie Milner puts his foot through it.
0-4!
Milner's first goal after 36 caps, which shows you how defensively he's been played in most matches.
Theo spins beautifully away from his marker but then runs straight into trouble.
A few minor scares here for England. Moldova pushing for a consolation goal.
So, inside the last ten minutes of a very satisfying performance for the Three Lions. It would be nice to maintain the clean sheet.
GOAL! 0-5! Leighton Baines will claim it but the free kick took a massive deflection off the wall.
Welbeck has come on for a late cameo to replace Defoe.
Oh - Theo should have made it 0-6 but his shot was tame.
More feed difficulties as we head into extra time, so I'm going to bail on this one. It looks to be wrapped up. Moldova have well and truly been "rolled ova."
Jamaica vs USA
http://www.thefirstrow.eu/watch/139447/1/watch-fifa-wcq:-jamaica-vs-usa.html
Good evening, UWS. Thanks for the link. How was your first week of school?
Now listening to the Star Spangled banner
Now the Jamaican national anthem
So it's the Reggae Boys vs the Yanks from Kingston,Jamaica.
We're off from Kingston,Jamaica.
GOAL!!! 0-1 U.S AS THEY ATTACK FROM THE OFF AS CLINT SCORES WITH AN EASY FINISH AFTER A GREAT RUN AND PASS FROM HERCULES GOMEZ.
What a start!!
The goal was timed at thirty six seconds.
First week was good. It was refreshing to be in a new school
Absolutely,UWS.Bob will be pleased to see rudolph of Leeds starting for Jamaica.
Thanks for asking
We better not just keep it at one nil and give away a late equalizer!
Did you see the dignitaries were still shaking hands when the Star Sp. B. started playing!
I am pleased to hear everything went well. It's a soap opera at our school. My daughters are going to the same middle school, but it's in a brand new building. Now we live too close for them to ride the bus.
Agreed, UWS. If we can score this early then why not do what Engerlund did to Moldova.
Typical!
I saw that. Nice to know everything is so synchronized.
Our insane principal wants to have the entire campus go to proficiency based grading and program the grade book so that you can only enter ten different grades and none lower than 65, a violation of state law.
Nice U.S. move , but a poor cross for Jermaine Jones intended for Jozy. It should have been 2-0
Jones may have the legs and lungs, but lacks the accuracy
Clint was fouled just outside the box, but the Mexican ref ignored it.
We need another goal!
Miles over from long range from the Leeds man as Jamaica had their first chance of the match
Agreed , UWS. The U.S are dominating possession, but it's kind of dull.
I watching more of Top Gear on the TV
Why isn't the game on the TV???
My daughter was asking the same. I have no idea. The only game being televised on my satellite is Argentina vs Paraguay.I am as surprised about this as you.
IT'S WORLD CUP QUALIFYING!!
I thought ESPN did a good job with the coverage. Do they only show the home games?
The Mexico wasn't a WCQ
This match is a cure for insomnia.
NBC Sports channel is looking for sports to cover!!
I agree 100%.I was expecting the match to be on ESPN or the deuce.
Its 1-1.... the sound is happening before the picture by a MINUTE
BUGGER!!! THE LEEDS MAN TIES IT UP AS TIMMY IS BEATEN OFF THE FREE KICK.HORRIBLE VIDEO, BUT IT APPEARED TO TAKE A DEFLECTION.
My video is also a minute behind.I thought it was just my computer
The Leeds man blasts it over as his confidence is sky high.
The goal was Jamaica's first shot on target. Timmy has not had much to do other than picking the ball out of the back of the net.
sound and picture are in sync... USA are not
That was the case, now my link froze. Now my sound and picture are sync. Agreed that the same cannot be said about the U.S.
Hard to believe that one of the Jamaican players plays his club footie in Vietnam. Is that any better than the Jamaican League or MLS.
Hey, lads, I'm on board. Thanks for the link, Dave!
"slotted, but not home" great play by play there
busy taking quizzes on sporcle
half time
Half-time . . . knotted at 1 in Kingston
I'm back. I was getting a quote for a tree trimming job. I see that it's still 1-1.
Some updates
Colombia 4 Uruguay 0
Ecuador 1 Bolivia 0
Those are final scores.
Argentina 3 Paraguay 1 in stoppage time.
Honduras won 0-3 in Cuba
It's Canada 0 Panama 0 in the second half
Good evening WHR. How have you been?
Hey Johnno... I have been busy taking pointless quizzes on Sporcle... it's fun
Two world Cup qualifiers tomorrow. The Jocks host the Serbs at 10 AM and the Danes host the Czechs at 2:15 PM.
Is Sporcle a web site? I would be interested in taking those quizzes.
The second half is underway.
The second half kicks off. Not impressed with the half-time show.
Hi, ya, Daves. I've been well. Big day of kids footie tomorrow. Have to coach two games. Been enjoying following Thomas's early season success on Facebook
An early Jamaica free kick in a similar position to the goal. Another foul by Beckerman
Timmy pushes away the free kick then Jermaine Jones heads away the corner for another.
USA flat to start the second half.
More Jamaica pressure then shot just over from long range.
Agreed, WHR. It's been all Jamaica. Then wide from Jermaine Jones.
I was wondering about Tom. I know he set all sorts of records at the college last season. I am hoping for more of the same.
Nice U.S. counter led by Gomez, but poor control by Clint.
Now Timmy is down after a clash that I did not see.
It looks really serious for Timmy as it appears to be an ankle injury. The replay shows that it appeared to be a fair challenge.
The Leeds man is fouled by Jones after turning the horrible Beckerman
About time. Danny Williams is on for Kyle Beackerman
Canada have taken the lead vs Panama.
Now Jermaine Jones is down injured.
Austin, the Leeds man , wins yet another free kick.
GOAL !!! 2-1 JAMAICA AS THEY SCORE OFF THE FREE KICK.
Oh brother.
Luton Shelton , the ex Blade scored a brilliant free kick. He now plays in Turkey
Kavin Bryan is off for Darren Mattocks.
Agreed, WHR. We showed more quality in Georgetown in June.
Food for thought : Both goal Jamaica goal scorers have been coached by Warnock as some point in time.
No one wants the ball for the US going forward. This is sad.
Jamaica leads the group if they win this match. The Canucks will lead their group by one point over Panama if they hold on.
I agree. This has been a shocking U.S. performance. They do not deserve anything form this match. The LOBers could do better
A double substitution for the U.S. as Brek Shea and Terrance Boyd are on for the U.S.
Boyd for the for Jozy, who was basically a spectator. Not sure who Shea replaced.
Canada held on to defeat Panama 1-0 and now lead the group by one point.
Now my link has frozen as has the U.S performance.
I refreshed the page. The U.S. will want to do the same with their performance.
Jeovann Watson is booked for a nasty foul on Jermaine Jones.
I wonder why Landy is not in the lineup this evening.
Jermaine Jones has talked himself into the book as a player was down injured and the ref continued to play on.
Hercules Gomez wins a free kick just outside the box.
I am surprised to see Lany and Michael Bradley out of the starting lineup. WHY??
Clint heads well over from a great cross.
It was a great cross from Brek Shea.Joel Senior is on for Luton Shelton. They are shutting up shop
Hi Boys,
Just back from the Found Footage Fest and I'm wondering what the hell is going on. Is this a fair scoreline? Have we been rubbish or have Jamaica been really good?
I'm not sure we get 3 points at home with this side.
Hello Gooner. How have you been? It has been a really horrible U.S. performance. Both Jamaican goals were cored directly off free kicks. The U.S scored in the first minute.
I picked up just before the end of first half. We have no idea going forward. We will struggle at home.
There should be changes to the starting lineup and definitely a change in tactics. I still wonder why Michael Bradley and Landy did not play.
Omar Cummings on for Ryan Johnson as we enter stoppage time.
Unless Jurgen changes the tactics and the U.S make a 180 degree u turn then they will definitely struggle in Columbus on Tuesday
what happened? My link went straight to a commercial.
Oh, Gooner, you were wise to pick the Found Footage Fest. Abysmal. Good night, lads.
Good night WHR. I agree that Gooner was better off going to the footage fest
Jamaica deservedly defeat a shambolic U.S. team 2-1.If they continue to play at this level, they will be watching the World Cup from Brazil on the telly.Great chatting Cheers lads.
I didn't get to see much of this match but I just cannot imagine a Jamaica that plays us off the park. I'm really surprised.
I know you all must be demoralized by watching the full match, but seriously, Jamaica will give us a game in Columbus next week? Seriously? I've seen us suck before, but qualification is at stake.
what a bummer!
Hiya, boys. Sorry I was absent tonight. Thrilled by the England performance, disgusted by the U.S. I actually hyped the match and got a few lads in to watch, not knowing that it was blacked out on the telly. So we were huddled around the laptop watching that dross. Really poor stuff from Jurgen's boys. Really poor.
Could we really get eliminated at this stage by Jamaica and Guatemala?
Scotland vs Serbia
http://www.thefirstrow.eu/watch/139579/1/watch-fifa-wcq:-scotland-vs-serbia.html
Still scoreless at the 37th minute maak
Half time at Hampden Park
Scoreless
It's all over in Glasgow
No goals
Both teams almost snatched it at the death!
Scotland have another home match midweek
TTFN
Sorry I missed the match. We scheduled an appointment this morning since there were no league matches. I will try to catch everyone on Tuesday after open house at out daughters' middle school.
