Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

I will be a miss today AGAIN!
I am off to practice right now and I may have to go scout some teams right after
Speak of me well
TTFN
Morning UWS - you'll be missed again today.
I'm on to the preview for the Hammers v. Cottagers on ESPN2 plus SS in the background:
http://www.thefirstrow.eu/watch/138328/1/watch-gillette-soccer-saturday-.html
Good morning lads . I am here for the Saturday action.
This is basically like the loan signings when Bolton were newly promoted.
Andy Carroll is straight into Fat Sam's side!
Here are the line-ups:
West Ham: Jaaskelainen, Demel, Reid, Collins, O'Brien, Diame, Noble, Nolan, Taylor, Vaz Te, Carroll.
Subs: Henderson, Tomkins, Cole, Maiga, Diarra, O'Neil, Hall.
Fulham: Schwarzer, Riether, Hughes, Hangeland, Riise, Duff, Sidwell, Diarra, Richardson, Rodallega, Petric.
Subs: Stockdale, Kelly, Baird, Kasami, Berbatov, Briggs, Kacaniklic.
Ref - Arthur Taylor
Morning, MUR - happy to have you board this morning.
Kick-off time! I barely recognize this Fulham side there are so many new faces.
GOAL!!! KEVIN NOLAN PUTS THE HAMMERS ONE UP AFTER 55 SECONDS.
GOAL! Well, that didn't take long! Nolan smashes in the opener just after a minute played.
1-0 Hammers!
Martin Jol isn't very happy.
Carroll got an all important flick on in that build up to the goal. I really hope that he'll do well.
I was surprised to hear a lot of negative comments from the Hammers faithful before the match in the preview show. They assume Fat Sam will play long ball to Carroll, and perhaps he will. But I don't think you need to.
He will fit perfectly into Sam's system. The new KD!
The Hammers are up into 4th place.
Oh - that's lovely. Great ball to Carroll at the back post, Carroll knocked it down beautifully and Schwarzer tipped over from Diami's shot. West Ham are clicking here.
Headed by Andy Carroll and Schwarzer palms an effort from Diame on to the bar and it's over for a corner.
How's your week been, mate?
West Ham are slicing Fulham open. One-two between O'Brien and Vaz Te leads to another opening. Fulham look as if they've never met each other - and maybe that's the case!
Oh - Damien Duff was in there but he was too one-footed to take the opportunity.
Another long ball to Carroll who flicks on and Nolan tries a cheeky chip. Just too heavy.
Lots of chances about today - I fancy Carroll to score today.
We're heading into an international break for the next ten days or so. I've just noticed that England are away to Moldova on Friday. I don't like that schedule. I know it works better for the clubs, but I don't like it.
I had a busy week, but am starting the year without a computer, class phone, or laptop because our tech person is the Arshavin of tech people. The principal is more concerned with fancy posters for open house and what time the last student is served in the lunch line than teachers being properly equipped. In class it was a pretty good week. The majority of students are good students. How was your first week of teaching?
Interesting commentary about Brendan Rogers at Liverpool. I don't expect him to last the season at Anfield. Pool will struggle and the fans expect.
Same here. I don't have last period conference this year, so my midweek comments will be sparse this year. I think the U.S. play at 5 PM on Friday
I am not sure about Brendan,.Liverpool need some continuity if they are to be successful.
Sorry to hear that, MUR. I know those crazy priorities well from my time in the K-12 classroom. They always talk a big game about "students being first" but it's rarely the case. I taught in a school in which the only space that was air conditioned was the administrative offices!
Nice stuff there - Diara to Sidwell but he took it too early. Easy save.
Thanks, BD.That has happened, but fortunately we have had AC as it has been very hot this week.
I have to leave in about five minutes. I need to take Melanie for a sports physical for tennis, then go to a Bar Mitzvah, then go to the in-laws for my wife's birthday party. Her birthday was on Thursday
GOAL! Winston Reid nods in at the near post from a corner.
2-0!
GOAL!!! 2-0 HAMMERS AS WINSTON REID HEADS IN A CORNER.
Sounds like a busy day for you too. Have a good one, mate!
I am off, but will be around for the action tomorrow.
Cheers, BD.
Cheers, BD.
There's a rise in the crowd noise every time the ball is knocked toward Carroll. He's an immediate hit here.
Berbatov is looking a bit arsed off on the Fulham bench.
GOAL! Matt Taylor smashes home West Ham's third!
Terrible defending!
Three players went up to challenge Carroll. He's such a magnet for defenders. And that left Taylor alone at the top of the box to smash home a low drive.
3-0 Game over before the interval!
Where are you, West Ham Rising? I certainly hope you're watching and enjoying this clinic.
Back for the second half now and the bubbles are blowing across the pitch. This is over as a contest but I would like to see AC get his goal. He's been brilliant in the set-up but deserves a goal.
Dracula has come on for Fulham.
Oh - Schwarzer just about saves a fourth goal there.
All the pressure still coming from West Ham. Fulham just don't seem to have any ideas today.
Oh - Carroll won the header again and no one took the opportunity.
Now Diame is trying to beat the entire Fulham defense. I've never seen Hangeland play worse.
That's a shame. AC has picked up a knock and has been replaced by Carlton Cole.
This second half has been going on for an eternity. Still a quarter of an hour to play, unfortunately.
In the Championship, Evil Millwall are 201 up over Boro.
Oh - great break through Vaz Te and he fed Hall. Hangeland did well to get back.
Oh - that is unlucky. Fulham hit the post. Not even a consolation goal on for them.
Into stoppage time now at Upton Park.
Millwall have extended their lead to 3-1.
Full-time. 3-0. Good performance from the Hammers with Andy Carroll proving his worth. Hopefully his knock isn't too serious.
Hello,BD. I am back from the clinic earlier than anticipated. I will be around for the first half.
The team news out of Elland Road today:

Welcome back, mate!
BLOODY NORAH! A downpour begins in Harlingen after near record heat this week.
Thanks mate.
That's brief as the rain has ceased.
We're off from WHL.
Spurs v. Norwich is the FSC match today. Here are the line-ups:
Spurs: Friedel, Walker, Gallas, Verlonghen, Assou Ekotto, Livermore, Sandro, LUFC Academy, Sigurdsson, Bale, Defoe.
Norwich: Ruddy, Martin, Bassong, Barnett, Garrido, Johnson, Howson, Snoddy, Pilkington, Holt, Jackson.
It's a bloody LUFC reunion in the Norwich midfield today. Crikey!
It's like an LUFC reunion at WHL.
We're off from Elland Road as well. Tough one against Blackburn today. Hoping for the best.
Sigudsoon has a poke from distance. Early doors.
a NICE RUN BY sPURS AND NOT FAR OFF FROM sIGURDSSON FROM LONG RANGE,.
Good luck, Leeds. A definite test at ER today.
Certainly is - cheers, mate.
I noticed yesterday that Leeds v. Everton is the Sky match for the 3rd Round of the League Cup on September 25th. Gooner and I will be watching in London.
Wigan have a penalty and Big Nose thinks it's deserved.
Wigan 1-0 up!
Palace are 1-0 up over Sheff Wed. Not a big club that.
Jeff thinks it's odd that Spurs are playing two holding middies - and I agree. Home match against Norwich and they think they need that much cover?
Well done Wigan. I picked them to survive.I didn't see the draw for the third round. Everton will be a stiff test, but the priority is the league.
I agree. teams overdo it with the holding middies in the modern game.
Alan Mac is at Elland Road. He reports on a brilliant save by our keeper Paddy Kenny.
I am here
I think I can stay until the end of the 10 o'clockers
Off the bar from a great cross as the Canaries nearly took the lead.Spurs old boy, Chris Hughton would love a win today for his Canaries.
Welcome, back, UWS. How was your week? Do you go back to work on Tuesday?
Link isn't working for me
SHUT IT!!!!!!
will the Gunners start their new North Korean superstar today? I heard he was signed on a free. Good one, UWS.
Here's the 3rd Round draw:
Man Utd v Newcastle
Man City v Aston Villa
MK Dons v Sunderland
West Brom v Liverpool
Crawley v Swansea
QPR v Reading
Norwich v Doncaster
Bradford v Burton
Preston v Middlesbrough
Arsenal v Coventry
Soton v. Sheff Wed.
United v. Newcastle is the obvious highlight.
Think of me. I've been back for two weeks without a working printer or classroom phone.
I was going to say both matches involving the Manc clubs are the top draws. Thanks for the info, BD.
Celtic are 1-0 up over Hibs, much to Someone Said's delight.
That earlier header off the bar was from Russell Martin.
Well, with Villa's current form, they won't be much of a test for Citeh.
I have a link thru firefox and not Safari
Someone will be pleased. You and him will be at war for the third round of the Capital One Cup.
Citeh play QPR
Jeff refers to Watford as "Udinese reserves" as they now have 10 Udinese players on loan at the club. Crikey!
Hard to say, BD. Citeh may put out a youth team and Villa a full strength lineup. You never know in this competition.
Should we consider Watford as a dark horse for promotion.
Welcome back, mate. My SS link from earlier this morning is still going strong.
Citeh vs QPR. A day I want to erase from my memory. Revenge for QPR?
I will be around till the end of the half.
Only one goal in the Championship so far - at Palace. A bit odd. 15 minutes gone.
My link keeps freezing the picture but sound is okay
Bolton has taken the lead away to Hull. Chris Eagles with a long shot deflected in.
Derby scored
Brighton just took the lead at Turf Moor
Brighton take the lead at Burnley
The goals are finally going in. Derby are now 1-0 up over Udinese reserves (aka Watford).
OH DEAR!!

Derby County take the lead vs the Udinese reserves.
Forest 1 Charlton 0
Sorry, Bob.
Bugger, bugger, bugger. Come on, you Whites. Get it back!
Darron Gibson pulls a hammy and is replaced byt Hibbert
Blackburn are top of the pops now on the strength of that early goal.
That will be a huge lose for the high flying Toffees.
First goal that we've conceded at ER this season!
The Cherries take the lead at the Blades. Bob will be pleased.
Scunny take the lead at Hartlepool. Jeff will not be pleased.
The Blades are losing at home to Bournemouth
Lovely - that puts a smile back on my face. Would like nothing more than to see the Blades in the conference.
Stevenage tie it up vs Shrewsbury
The ex Leeds players players trouble Spurs after Howson has a shot blocked and Bradley Johnson shot just over.
BIg Sam says Carroll will probably drop out of the England squad with a hammy
Poor by Dafoe as he was set up by Lennon, another former LUFC player
OH DEAR... TWO NIL ROVERS!!!
I think England will be okay without Andy Carroll.
BUGGER!
The Blades tie it up.
Sheff Utd tie it up
Bloody hell - what's going on!?
Fleetwood take the lead vs Aldershot.
Plymouth losing to Northampton
Hull 1 Bolton 1
The other newly promoted league team, York, lead Oxford 2-1.
Sorry about the Plymouth score, Bob.
I have a York fan in my living room right now
"Blackburn are running the show" according to Alan Mac. Oh dear.
BUGGER!!!Blackburn lead 0-2 at ER.
And now the bloody Blades are level.
Young Fergie's men take the lead at Brum
And a Bury fan?
Sandro shoots straight at Ruddy after a period of sustained pressure.
Well.. that Bury is up by Manchester so that bloke is an Ipswich fan
Bury losing 0-1 at home to Notts County
Hull have leveled it against Bolton.
Thank you for the clarification, UWS. You must mean St. Edmunds.
We need one back by the interval. Come on, you Whites!
Actually, Brum lead young Fergie's side.
Spurs have looked really poor today.
Cambridge United trail at Stockport County.
sorry for that
Agreed, BD. They have had a poor start under AVB.
Sh Utd are now winning
No probs, UWS.
BUGGER!
Brum are 1-0 up over Posh now.
One bloody goal in the Prem!!!
I did not know that; learn something every day, eh?
I heard that Carlos Bocanegra was signed by a Spanish team. Is that correct?
Didn't know what?
Derby now lead the Udinese reserves 2-0.
It sounds like a library at Shite Fart today. Sandro tries one from the Seven Sisters tube stop and it's still orbiting the planet.
Yes. Know what?
That Bury was up near Manchester.
Derby two up against Udinese B
Cambridge tie it up
BOOM BOOM, BD!
Huddersfield one up at Portman Road
Huddersfield take the lead at Portman Road.
Penalty at Wigan.
And to think the Spurs fans used to talk about the Highbury Library
Sunderland take the lead at Swansea... old Wolves boy Fletcher with the goal
Another one?
Cheers, mate.
Stoke got the pen and scored it
Derby now 2-0 up over Udinese reserves.
Stoke tie it up at the DW.
Hudders are 0-1 up at Portman Road. Our old boy Adam Clayton the scorer there.
Leeds get a goal back!!!
Two out of three EPL goals have been scored from the spot.
it's Leeds time!
Sunderland are 0-1 up over high flying Swansea.
And Big Nose yells as well.
Great save by Big BRAD!
YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!
Spitty scored a scrambled goal at ER
what a double save from Brad. First the header from United OldBoy, Pilkington then the rebound from LUFC Old Boy, Johnson.
Useless pass by Howson on a break
Derby three up against Zola's men
Derby lead the Udinese reserves 3-0.
We really needed that goal back before the half. And it's that man Spitty Diouf with his debut goal.
it was actually a superb cross from Snoddy and the rebound was saved by the Yank from the Canuck.
Tottenham could be booed off at the half
Leeds all over Rovers
WELL DONE , SPITTY!
Goal in Wales to the host
Swans 1 Sunderland 1
Probably the case from WHL, UWS as Swansea tie it up vs Sunderland. One minute of stoppage time.
Let's have another one, Spitty!
Palace beating the BIG CLUB but hanging on
Swansea are on level terms now - Wayne Routledge with the equalizer.
Halftime and 0-0 from WHL and the fans boo as UWS predicted.
There's the whistle and the boos
Sheff Utd score a third
Not surprised - AVB for the chop?
Not a big club.
I have to bugger off. I will be around for the action tomorrow. Cheers lads.
Cheerio MUR
I will be off after the final whistle of the 10 o'clockers
Bob will be flying solo for the Citeh match
Just noticed that Fletcher scored his second goal of the match in the 6th minute of injury time for Sunderland at the Liberty
Changes have been made by AVB
Sandro off for new signing Dembele
It's about time Dembele got a run out. No need for two defensive middies.
Come on, you Whites - let's have another one back early doors.
Hull ahead of Bolton less than a minute into the second half
