Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

A very early good morning to all of you LOBers. The starting line-ups at Stamford Bridge:
Chelski - Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, JT, Cashley, Luiz, Lamps, Oscar, Mata, Moses, Ba.
Brentford - Moore, Logan, Craig, Dean, Bidwell, Adeyemi, Diagur, Douglas, Forshaw, Donaldson, Trotta.
Good morning BD. The match has kicked off from sunny Stamford Bridge as we have a Fourth replay.
No messing around from Rafa today, as he must have noticed that not a single Premiership side got through to the quarter-finals outright in the matches yesterday.
Morning, MUR - you get the LOB Commitment Award for getting out of bed so early. Hope you can catch a nap later on today.
That is quite a surprise.Based on the matches today I could see none of the EPL sides making it to the quarters today
A chance for Brentford and just wide by Adam Forshaw,
Demba Ba wearing a Phantom of the Opera mask after that incident last weekend at St James' Park with Coloccini's high boot.
Ta, BD. It's great to join you for the Fourth/Fifth Round action.I visited JDLC yesterday and had a great visit with him and the family.
Oh - dangerous from Chelski. Ivanovic at the back stick nodded back across but Ba couldn't reach it.
A chance for Chelsea as Ivanovic headed a free kick from Mata just wide.
Logan swings a ball over for Donaldson but the striker couldn't get much on the header.
Why wouldn't Chelski offer Lamps a one-year extension?
I will make sure to be rested for the action tomorrow
I think they are using his age as an excuse, but if he he is still doing it than why not.
Another dangerous corner routine ends with Oscar crossing to Ba who got his header all wrong.
Chelsea win a corner. It is not cleared then the Phantom of the Opera heads a great cross well wide
What if you were the first Premiership side into the Quarter-finals outright? Wow!
Chelsea fans chanting there's only one RDM!
I would love that. Surely we would be favorites to win the cup.
Lampard miss kicked then Oscar had a shot deflected for a corner. I guess it was a goal kick
Our match tomorrow is the only all EPL match, so that would guarantee one EPL side in the quarters
Sometimes I forget that Reading are a Premiership outfit - they already feel Championship to me.
Great ball by Cashley as Oscar had a shot blocked then David Luiz with a great solo run as his pass was cleared. Brentford under the cosh
Chelski are certainly getting a lot of chances here. Lampard with a trademark shot from distance, well wide this time.
Lampard well wide from long range as he left his shooting boots at home today or in Malaysia?
Reading have had some great comebacks this season, so some teams would disagree.
Oh - great move there through Mata with a ball along the six yard box. Ba doesn't seem to be on the pace today.
Cashley got it all wrong as he had a great chance , but got it all wrong from close range. Mata was down injured, but is okay.
Oh - Mata plays Oscar in and the Brazilian hits the post!
So, Brentford have survived the opening period and will now be looking for chances to break.
HOLY MOSES! He got that cross horribly wrong. OH! OScar had a shot come off the outside of the post and out for a goal kick as he played a one two with Lampard that deflected off a defender.
It's clear when things go wrong for Chelski - poor passes, e.g., - that Brentford have brought along a decent amount of support today.
Those Blues will hope they do not get stung by those pesky Bees.
A rare Brentford counter and they got it all wrong.
I was going to say the pass from Victor Moses was so poor that Grandma Moses could have done better
Boom boom, MUR - nice one!
A poor Chelsea free kick is headed away, but they retain possession.
UWS is getting his beauty sleep, as per usual.
Ta, BD.
He is wearing his mask and earplugs too. If he thinks this is an early kickoff then he should think of me on Central time.
The Brentford keeper has had a cap brought out to him - some sun in his eyes.
Indeed - you are Mr. Commitment today.
Oh - decent effort from Forshaw that Cech had to scramble for .
Paul Dickov was in charge of Oldham's Fourth Round win vs Liverpool then was sacked shortly after that, but was in the stands to cheer them to a draw vs Everton. The romance of the cup?
Ta, BD. A chance for Brentford and just wide by Adam Forshaw.
Avraam Grant in the stands watching . The announcer says he is good friends with Roman. Why??? Roman back stabbed him by sacking him after Chelsea finished second, two points behind United and took them to the CL final and lost in a penalty shoot out to United. He sure did better than Raffa and Big Phil.
Cashley is fouled by Peter Logan about a foot outside the box.
Free kick chance for Chelski. Lamps over it.
The free kick from Lamparsd was heading towards goal , but a Brentford defender ran across the box to block thenit made it to the keeper.
Morning Boys
I have been watching some of the match upstairs
Brentford get the ball in the net.. ref called a foul... play on!
weak free kick into the wall
My ears may be deceiving me but I think Gary Birtles is wrong saying that there is some moaning going on from Chelski fans. What you're hearing is mainly the Brentford fans. For example, they were chanting "You Don't Know What You're Doing!" at the ref after he gave a free kick to Cashley. And then there were loud cheers when the free kick was well defended. It's almost like a home crowd for Brentford!
Marcello Trotter had it in the back of the net for Brentford , but the whistle had blown for a foul by David Luiz on Forshaw. He should have played the advantage. The free kick from Forshaw was blocked.
Again - there was a loud shout for handball against Moses and then a huge cheer when he was tackled. I don't think we're hearing the Chelski fans at all. Extraordinary!
Good morning UWS. You must be delighted to be on vacation.
Lots of Brentford fans because it was only a six mile trip to Stamford Bridge. Nigel Winterburn is doing the commentary, not Gary Birtles.
Nearly half time then. This is a terrific effort from Brentford. Does this go to extra time and pens if it's still drawn at full-time?
Just a reminder if this tied at the end of regulation, there is thirty minutes extra time and possibly penalties. That would delay the kickoff at the Etihad.
I am very happy not having school tomorrow.
It has been a busy weekend so far though!
Lamps misses a big chance!
Thanks for the correction - I reckon that Nigel is wrong. I don't hear the Chelski fans at all. When was the last time a Premiership side was out-shouted by a lower league side. Again - laughter from the crowd when Lamps missed a big chance. Wow!
A great cross by Mata and Lampard scuffs a volley wide.
Extra time and penalties.... we don't want that... there is a certain match on right after this one!!!
Oh - Donaldson got free on the left and sent over a decent ball for Adeyemi - nearly got to it. Corner.
Great run down the left by Clayton Donaldson and Adeyemi has a shot blocked for a corner. The corner was cleared.
Exactly my worry, UWS.
One minute of stoppage time.
I will be around for the big one but not for the late one
I will be leaving for Cortland to pick up Jonathan
I'll meet you there for lunch Bob.. it's about half way!
Half time!
Well done Brentford!
Halftime and 0-0 at the Bridge. Chelsea fans none too pleased.
The late match is Huddersfield vs Wigan at the John Smith's Stadium
Yesterday, Huddersfield took on Wigan at the John Smith's Stadium.... in Rugby League!
Huddersfield beat Wigan 22-10.. I guess there won't be that much scoring today!
DId you guys see that Carlisle had to pay 20 pounds to park their bus yesterday?
I saw an interview with the manager who couldn't believe it. They take probably one of the longest trips in football.. and had to pay to get off!
Second half underway
Nice tackle... I thought the ref was going to point to the spot.. but he was pointing for a goal kick
Nice save by the keeper there
Back for the second half. Extra time looming?Chelsea have a corner.Chelsea take it short and the keeper punches away a cross from Lampard then Ba misses a tasty cross at the far post
Our Bob just wants a goal somewhere!!
Some lower division clubs are really struggling.Cup heroes , Oldham were instructed not to exchange shirts with Everton because they did not have extra shirts. They were told to give them to the cleaning lady after the match.
Back from the store. I've got a few lads coming over for the big one. Come on, Brentford - finish these mugs off!
We all want Chelsea to feel the Blue due to Bee stings.
Phil McNulty, BBC Sport Chief Football Writer at Etihad Stadium
"No Joe Hart for Man City against Leeds - but worth noting he was also on the bench for the win at Stoke in the last round of the FA Cup."
The umpteenth miss kick from Lapmard off a corner from Oscar the Grouch
I'm sorry to keep banging on about this, but it's irritating me that the commentators aren't noticing it yet. I think that a large portion of the Blues fans may be on a silent protest today because you can't hear them at all. The commentators expected to hear booing at half-time. Instead, what you actually did hear was a loud cheer...from the Brentford fans!
I would love to meet you for lunch in Cortland - alas, not today, mate.
I guess you're blowing me off for lunch that I invited you to!
I guess we're getting blown off for the big one MUR... he's with his NEW FRIENDS!
GOAL... MATA WITH THE GOAL!
GOAL! There it is! Juan Mata with the deadlock breaker.
BUGGER!!! CHELSEA TAKE THE LEAD THANKS TO A GREAT FINISH BY MATA
Route 1 from Chelski, Ba helped it on and Mata hammered it home left-footed!
1-0 Blues!
What a shame!!!
Gareth Barry isn't in Citeh's side today
He could have been one of Leeds' best chances of scoring
It was Route One from Chelsea as Ba headed on a goal kick from Cech and Mata finished.
Scott Sinclair isn't even on the bench today.... Swansea are at Wembley... bad move!!
Agreed, UWS. What about Hart.He was just as bad last week. Frankenstein will take his place in goal today. Will the big Transylvanian do any worse?
It seemed a good move at the time, but definitely bad as he is primarily a bench warmer. He liked the big pay day
I don't see where the League Cup Final is on TV over here.
Good response from Brentford here.
Hart isn't playing either but as my post said, he didn't play in the last round either
Brentford win a corner off of Cahill. As great response since the goal. The corner was just too high
I don't think it is - we'll have to watch on a link.
Just as long as Gareth Barry is playing I'll be happy. Hoping for one or two clinical finishes into his own net today.
I don't see that it was a good move by Sinclair just like Rodwell
Ok, good young players moving to a big club but there were already plenty of players in their position.
Brentford fans toared as Adam Forshaw won a free kick.
1316:
Man City v Leeds (1400 GMT)
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini reacts to the 3-1 defeat to Southampton by making six changes against Leeds. Costel Pantilimon (who has filled in for Joe Hart in goal throughout the season in the domestic cup competitions), Aleksandar Kolarov, Kolo Toure, Matija Nastasic, Leeds old boy James Milner and Carlos Tevez - who missed the defeat at St Mary's due to personal issues - all start.
For Leeds, boss Neil Warnock replaces first-choice goalkeeper Paddy Kenny with Jamie Ashdown in one of four changes from the team that lost 1-0 to Middlesbrough. El Hadji Diouf, Rodolph Austin and Aidan White also come in.
I said that Barry ISN'T playing
Roman is the lonely little billionaire today.
Agreed, UWS. Also, I was looking for an excuse to make the Frankenstein comment because Citeh's reserve Transylvanian keeper looks like something from" Young Frankenstein."
Brentford break but the pass sends him too wide.. shame
Brentford with a break that doesn't come off.
Bugger - I missed that post, UWS. Shame - still, I like the sound of their side. Jamie knows not to score against his old friends.
I can think of plenty of names that can come after little when describing Roman
Jake Stokes-King: "Well that was route Juan football from Chelsea there..."
Luke Richards: "Brentford's heroics won't Mata anymore."
Lock up your ballboys - it's Eden Hazard about to come on.
BALL BOYS BEWARE!Hazard is about to come on. He may be nice as Chelsea have the lead.
Have a I told you that I REALLY DON'T WANT CHELSEA TO GET FAR IN THE FA CUP! They have been to so many Cup Finals as of late!
SHUT IT LUKE!
Those are some terrible puns you've quoted, UWS.
I did pick Chelsea in the PPP! That would surely transfer the trophy to South Texas.
Moses to come off for Hazard.
Hazard on for Moses. Will we see any ridiculous antics?
A shame about the late match. I may miss part of it and the draw as I have to bring lunch to the synagogue and clean up. Elizabeth and the girls will be with her family at SPI
Both Fifth Round matches today are War of Roses matches as was the late one yesterday
When it Matas Most
GOAL! Oscar pots Chelski's second.
Two Nil
Bob's big match is safe to be shown!
GOAL !!! 2-0 CHELSEA AS THIS ONE SEEMS TO BE DONE AND DUSTED. HAZARD WENT DOWN THE RIGHT, PUT THROUGH IVANOVIC AND OSCAR BACK HEELS IT OVER THE LINE AS THE DEFENDER ON THE LINE COMPLETELY MISSED IT.
Hazard picked up a sloppy pass in midfield and waited for the overlap from Ivanovic. Great ball over and an ungainly backheel from the Brazilian through a defender's legs.
2-0 Blues!
Bring on the big match now!
Poor pun, UWS, unless you are a Chelski fan. We will be next Sunday. Ivanovic booked for afoul as Gary Cahill heads away a free kick
The Bees win a corner off of Ivanovic. Clayton Donaldson heads well over off the corner.
The Bees win a corner off of Ivanovic. Clayton Donaldson heads well over off the corner.
Lampard! 3-0!
GOAL !!! 3-0 AS MATA MADE A RUN DOWN THE LEFT AND LAMPARD EASILY FINISHED FROM CLOSE RANGE
THIS ONE IS OVER.
Lamps makes it 3 Nil
I don't want them to score a boatload!!
Berntford don't deserve it
Again, this is going to sugarcoat Chelsea's performance. Just like their 4-1 win against Wigan
Time to head to Maine Road.
I agree, UWS,
The team news for the big one:
Citeh - Pantillimon, Zabaleta, Kolo Toure, Nastasic, Kolarov, Yaya Toure, Garcia, Milner, Tevez, Silva, Aguero.
Subs - Hart, Lescott, Clichy, Maicon, Rodwell, Nasri, Dzeko.
Leeds - Ashdown, Byram, Lees, Peltier, Warnock, White, Brown, Austin, Varney, Spitty, McCormack.
Subs - Kenny, Hall, Morison, Habibou, Tonge Norris, Pearce.
Jake Reeves, the former Spurs trainee, is on for Diagurawa
Bugger. I just saw that MUR won't be around for the late match or the Draw!
Bob will be busy entertaining!
So much for texts updating me on scores and Draw
I'll have to have Matt send it to me
If Liverpool beat Swansea today... their first win against a Top Ten club... they would move about Swansea into 7th. Three points behind neighbors Everton
Let's hope that doesn't happen
Goalscorer Juan Mata is coming off for Benayoun.
I should be around for all but the last few minutes of the late one. I can send you updates, but I expect to miss the draw.
I'll see what I can do, mate!
I'll get Matt to do it
Hey.. you've blown me off for lunch already!
Just kidding!
I agree, UWS. However they need to finish sixth to qualify for the horrid Europa League.
Sam Saunders on for Adam Forshaw.
Brentford fans down, but not out
Brentford and Chelsea are so near and yet so far
Lampard wins a corner after Brentford gifted possesion just outside their box.
This one is over
I am off to shower and shave so I can leave right after Leeds' victory
I'll be back
Ryan Bertrand on for the old man for the last ten minutes.
JT! 4-0!
Ryan Bertrand on for Lampard, who gets a standing ovation.
GOAL !!! 4-0 AS JT HEADS IN A CROSS OFF A SHORT CORNER. GREAT CROSS FROM OSCAR
I was going to say that Lampard got a standing ovation, but Roman did not seem too impressed.
Oscar is my pick for MOTM.
The match from Maine Road will kick off on time , much to the delight of Bob.
A Brentford counter and Jake Reeves wins a free kick
David Lewis deservedly booked.
Douglas rugby tackles Ivanovic, who was quiet , probably due to the previous incident and for incidents in previous matches. I am sure Roman has instructed the Chelsea players to quit doing stupid things that affect the reputation of the club.
BLOW UP REF!
Hazard did not react to being kicked twice by Douglas. I am sure Roman and Raffa have had talks with him about his expected conduct
Four minutes of stoppage time. Is it necessary to play that much stoppage time?
Brentford win a corner off of David Lewis as they could not clear.
The corner is cleared , but Brentford keep possession. Chelsea counter through Hazard and win a corner. A scramble in the box and Brentford finally clear as the final whistle is blown and it finishes 4-0 to Chelsea. They face Middlesborugh in the Fifth Round at the Riverside on February 27th
Next up - "an epic FA Cup clash!"
I'll be commenting infrequently - hopefully when we score - while my buds are here. MOT!
I am here for kick off
Me too
COME ON YOU WHITES!
aPOOR BACK PASS , BUT aSHDOWN WAS OUT IN TIME TO CLEAR.
Zabaletta put through down the right And Ashdown catches the cross.
The sixth time these clubs have met in the FA Cup. They have never needed a replay
Citeh will take this seriously as this is their only realistic chance of silverware this season.
BUGGGGGGERRRRR!
BUGGER!! 1-0 CITHE AS YAYA WAS PUT THROUGH AND ROUNDED ASHDOWN FOR AN EASY FINISH. PLAYED A ONE TWO WITH SILVA
Sorry Bob. Time for a comeback.
Leeds fans singing proudly
Yaya pushes down Michael Brown. How was that not a red? I realize it was a poor foul, but the players need to let the refs dot eh officiating
Great tackle on Silva to prevent a second Citeh goal
Saving tackle there.... thought it was going to be a pen
Citeh are carving Leeds open many times!
Not a good sign
Yaya seemed to be begging for an early bath as he was doing his best Balo impersonation.
Lees tackles Silva for a corner.
Yaya had a shot blocked then shot well wide as Peltier is down injured
STRUTH... Citeh look like scoring every time they go forward!
I hope Bob's friends are being supportive
Aguero set up Tev , who shot into the side netting.
Leeds finally had an attack, but a shot was easily blockerd.
Bloody hell... a penalty... a bit soft there!!
What a wus
Never a penalty... nice pen... two nil
Is Bob's party over
WTF ! HOW WAS THAT A PENALTY ON AGUERO. BARELY TOUCHED. HORRIBLE OFFICIATING FROM THE MUPPET.
BUGGER!!! AGUERO MAKES IT 2-0 FROM THE SPOT.
Michu isn't playing today at Anfield... rested for Wembley?
Oh dear, I go off to the kitchen and it's 0-2. So sorry.
Mark the Muppet has had a mare as he failed to send off Yaya for a push on Michael Brown then gifted Citeh a penalty that never was. Is he on the take???
Neil Warnock the Leeds manager and Stephen Warnock the Leeds left back
Good morning Someone. Poor officiating has helped Citeh as they got a penalty that never was and Yaya was not sent off for pushing Michael Brown to the ground.
A set piece opportunity for Leeds.
Taken short and the cross for Lees was too high. Leeds will need to do better as that will be their best chance of getting back into the match
Neil Warnock not pleased as his namesake is down injured
A corner from Kolorov is easily cleared. Citeh still in possession.
Javi Garcia body checks a Leeds players a foot from Clattenburg and the idiot muppet waves play on as Citeh have a corner
The corner from Kolorov is headed out for a throw.
A long range effort from Yaya is tipped over by Ashdown
Kolorov takes it short to Silva, then gets it back and Ashdown easily saves at the near post.
Citeh look like they're back to their dangerous selves... the title is not over
