Inter vs Spurs kicked off about a minute ago and Spurs have a 3-0 first leg lead, but as the North London rivals showed yesterday, anything is possible.
Afternoon, MUR - thanks for the reminder about those matches. I'm working from home this afternoon, so I'll have a peek.
Marvelous - we've got coverage on FSC. I'm tuning in now. Spurs are 3-0 up from the home leg, of course.
Good afternoon, BD. Glad to help. Sorry, but I can't post pictures. Arsenal showed that anything is possible.
I'll go ahead and do that for you - I appreciate your posting the thread.
Some early kickoffs from Eastern Europe are in the second half:
Rubin Kazan 0 Levante 0. The same on agg. Really entertaining
Zenit 1 Basle 0. The Swiss lead 2-1 on agg
Thanks BD . I appreciate it.
Zenit have opened the scoring in Russia through Witsel. They still trail FC Basel 1-2 on aggregate.
Spurs , surprisingly , with most of the early possession in the San Siro . A long possession after their first corner from Walker was headed out.
More good news for me today. I got into a prestigious conference in Denver in June. After a nightmarish 2011, 2012 is proving to be a real tonic for me.
Basle are a man down as Marcelo Diaz was sent of in stoppage time in the first half.
Jake Livermore gets a yellow for time wasting...in the 13th minute!
I am delighted for you. Congratulations!
Rodrigo Palacio and Cassano combined on the break as Cassano shot straight at Brad.
I agree with you that all three English sides have a great chance of advancing to the quarters. That will go some way to soothe the bruised egos after all sides were eliminated from the CL.
Cheers, mate!

A surprisingly subdued atmosphere in the San Siro as my early impressions are that Inter have basically conceded the Europa League.Lucky for Spurs.
Inter and AC are "roommates?" An odd comment from the Yank commentator.
It will help the Prem's UEFA coefficient too. Otherwise they may lose a CL place in about three years.
Just to let you know, I've deleted the spam message from "Anonymous." We get those from time to time and I try to keep the blog clean of commercial messages.
Exactly so, MUR - that's always a worry. Serie A lost one of their slots four years ago after a number of years of poor results for their sides.
Indeed. Rather bizarre. Poor by Cassano as Gallas barely brushed Cassano and he went down far too easily. He could have shot as he had just Brad to beat. Ridiculous !
GOAL! Cassano gets the early goal that Inter needed!
GOAL !!!! 1-0 INTER AS CASSANO HEADED IN AT THE FAR POST FROM A CROSS BY RODRIGO PALACIO AS HE WAS GIVEN THE FREEDOM OF THE SAN SIRO.
Palacios with a lovely cross and at first I thought that Cassano had headed it down too heavily and that it would bounce over the bar. Into the roof of the net, leaving Big Brad with no chance.
1-0!
Great save by Handonovic from Siggy
The 606 podcasters were mentioning a similarly subdued atmosphere in the Allianz Stadium last night, with Bayern loyalists barely making it back into their seats for the second half thinking that their side had it home and hosed from the first leg.
Inter have plenty of time to get two goals back now.
Great point, BD,. I wonder if Inter fans have conceded. The stadium seems half empty
Unbelievable that Javier Zanetti is still starting for Inter - he must be in his late thirties at this point.
There's also something about the ticketing for these events. I'm not sure that European matches are counted in with season tickets, so fans sometimes will boycott matches if they're seen as unfairly expensive.
Poor by Spurs as it all stemmed from a short Inter goal kick. Six passes later Palacio crossed for the shortest player on the pitch to head home unmarked at the far post. Spurs just sat back and as you stated, plenty of time for Inter to come back.Look what happened yesterday.
I was thinking the same as watching that many matches can become rather expensive. Fans have a budget. Zenetti must be in his late 30s. I will check
Oh - Palacio broke the offside trap there but then hit the top of the bar with his chip. Alarm bells should be ringing in the Spurs back four. Their line is far too high.
Spurs have been having trouble with the combo of Palacio and Cassano . This time Cassano put Palacio through as he got behind the Spurs defense and his shot went off the top of the bar and out for a goal kick
Oh - a bit loose at the back there between Gallas and Friedel nearly let Inter in again. Nerves.
How does a big man like Adebayor get knocked off the ball so easily?
Zanetti turns 40 in August and is still an ever present with Inter. I think he has been with them since the mid 90s and holds the Inter record for Serie A appearances. Fantastic for an outfield player.
Still too high a line - Palacio just offside. Marginal call.
Marvelous - the Ryan Giggs of Serie A.
I think it's a like of pride and commitment by Ade. It drives managers crazy.
Perhaps better than Giggs because he still starts every match.I'm a Zanetti fan. A marvelous example to all.
There appear to be three commentators in the booth - too many chefs, perhaps?
The draw for the quarters is tomorrow at 7 AM EDT. Too early for me as I am on vacation.I will check when I wake up.
A bit more ambition from Spurs now, but Inter are tussling for every loose ball.
Based on the level of announcing , one chef appears to be too many.
That makes sense - I might just wake up for that.
The five remaining matches kick off at 4:05.
Chelsea will be on FSC and the Toon will be on FSC+. I might do the PIP.
Camiasso conceded a free kick in a dangerous position and Walker headed the free kick from Siggy well wide.
I'll stick around for the Chelski coverage on FSC.
Elizabeth and the girls are outside painting the bench.
I think it's in United's best interests for Chelsea to advance so they become congested with fixtures. Even if Chelsea are eliminated , I believe the replay will still be on April Fools Day. THAT'S NO JOKE!
Handonovic is handy as he punches away the corner from Siggy. Now Inter have possession.
That sounds like an excellent spring activity.
Arsenal and Spurs fans will hope for the same.
How is Ade slower than someone about to turn 40? I don't get it!
News out of Blighty today that Rio has been recalled to the England squad for the San Marino and Montenegro matches coming up next week.
We have had the perfect weather for that this week. Tomorrow we go to the Livestock Show, which is like a county fair.
The squad in full:
Foster (West Brom), Hart (Manchester City), Forster (Celtic); Baines (Everton), Cahill (Chelsea), Cole (Chelsea), Dawson (Tottenham), Ferdinand (Manchester United), Johnson (Liverpool), Smalling (Manchester United), Walker (Tottenham); Carrick (Manchester United), Cleverley (Manchester United), Gerrard (Liverpool), Lampard (Chelsea), Lennon (Tottenham), Milner (Manchester City), Osman (Everton), Parker (Tottenham), Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Walcott (Arsenal), Young (Manchester United); Defoe (Tottenham), Rooney (Manchester United), Sturridge (Liverpool), Welbeck (Manchester United).
I guess that makes sense even though WOY should be looking to the future. It doesn't matter who plays vs San Marino, but does vs Montenegro
I love a good county fair - enjoy a corndog or two!
Oh - Palacio made a nuisance of himself again but couldn't find the ball to Cambiasso.
Brad booked for time wasting. He had some words for the officials. Palacio in a similar position to the goal, but nobody was at the far post to connect
Roman Shirakhov missed a pen for Zenit as they would have been 2-0 up on th enight and level on agg vs ten man Basle. Their last chance as time is running out?
Two minutes of stoppage time.
I am partial to a good turkey leg. The girls like the petting zoo and Elizabeth the live shows.
Oh - Ade nearly on target. The final chip was just over the top.
The ref whistles for half-time. Very stylish uniforms for the officials today. Wouldn't mind one of those.
How did Ade miss that. He did well to win the ball, but then shot over with just the keeper to beat. Halftime and 1-0 to Inter , but Spurs still have a 3-1 agg lead. That goal would have surely sealed a place in the quarters for Spurs.
I looked at your post of the England squad. I know Ben Foster came out international retirement and am glad to see Fraser Forster get a chance.I had requested that for Euro 2012 instead of the untested Butland. Also, Rio in. Otherwise pretty much the first choice squad.
Zenit fail to take advantage of the extra player they had the entire second half . They defeated Basle, but lost 2-1 on agg. Zenit will rue a late missed penalty that would have sent the the tie to extra time.It is Rubin Kazan 0 Levante 0 as the teams could not score a goal between them after three hours of play, so the fans that attended on a cold Russian evening will have to endure another half hour of sheer boredom.
Thirty minutes of tortuous extra time has just started between Rubin Kazan and Levante. The first time in the short history of the Europa League that that it has been scoreless after two matches. Torture, even by EL standards.
The snow several feet deep behind the Rubin Kazan goal on a bitterly cold night in what has been a horrible match and more to endure while the pitch in the other EL match in Russia where Zenit missed a late pen on a horrible pitch as it was right down the middle and the keeper saved with his feet.
We're back on for the second half. Banners in the crowd for Francis I, the new Pope.
Yes - not a good night to be watching a 0-0 draw go into extra time.
The second half is underway from the San Siro.
The first ever in El history. The fans will need plenty of Wodka to warm up and are more likely to suffer from frostbite than see a goal.
Rodrigo Palacio just offside as he got behind that Spurs high line yet again
If Spurs score next then this one is done and dusted.
Useless pass from Dafoe after a nice pass from Ade.
FINALLY!
Rubin go 1-0 up on the night and on agg in the eleventh minute of ET. It took three hours and eleven minutes for one of these teams to score.
About time - Rubin now odds on to enter the quarters.
Thankfully , that match cannot go to pens.
Ballhog and Ade not really clicking tonight.
Nice counter down the left by Ade as he got past Juan , but Vertonghen mis-kicked in front of goal, then Inter attaack and
GOAL !!! 2-0 INTER AS PALACIO SCORES WITH JUST BRAD TO BEAT.
NOW ONLY 3-2 ON AGG TO SPURS.
GOAL! Inter have another goal back! Game on!
Inter now have thirty five minutes and change to score a third (and possibly winning fourth goal).
Not an impressive display from Spurs tonight. They clearly thought they could come and park the bus and the lively Palacio has proven them wrong.
That mis-kick proved costly as Vertonghen could have put this tie out of Inter's rteach. Inter went right up the pitch and a last ditch tackle from Gallas prevented a Palacios goal, then Palacios scores wenty second s later as Livermore was tackled in midfield by Cambaiasso nd his superb through ball was put away by his Argire compatriot, Palacio.
Holtby on for the useless Defoe.
The second half of ET has started in Kazan as Rubin lead 1-0 on agg. If Levante tie it up they would go ahead on away goals.
I could see Inter vs Spurs going to ET too.
The jury's out for me on Holtby. Haven't seen enough from him yet. But I agree - not Ballhog's best night.
The linesman calls a foul by Vertonghen on Palacio after the ref called it a fair tackle.
Cassano over a dangerous free here.
Camabiasso heads the free kick well over.
I home with 30 to go and Spurs two down... very close!
A Spurs goal would end it though
Too early to tell on Holtby. He seems to give 100% , but is adjusting to the BPL. We may see the best of him starting next season.
Good afternoon, UWs. You are correct. Spurs have been poor tonight.
Great picture by the way MUR... except Bale isn't playing and is that Wesley?
One man team?
That seemed more a foul by Vertonghen on Palacio than the one that was given.
What do you think about Rio back in the England fold
Rubin now go 2-0 up vs Levante on the night and on agg. Surely, that one is settled.
Can't stand FSC commentating from a studio in LA
Just get the feed from Europe!!
Welcome, UWS! I have to take the blame for that image. It was on a preview for the match. Spurs are a bit of a one-man team.
I don't agree with Rio being in the squad. I would have liked to have seen a younger player, especially vs Montenegro.
I tried to post a picture, but am having computer problems. Bob was very kind to help out.
Dembele isn't playing. Did he not recovery from the injury
I'd rather put Rio and Terry out to pasture and go with the young guys. We're preparing for Brazil and I reckon the starting center back pairing with be Cahill and Caulker.
It's a great picture though
Hey BD
Cuse up by 10 with 20 secs to go in the Big East Tourney against Pitt... I knew you wanted to know
Spurs finally defending deep - and that's keeping Inter out. 25 minutes to hold out.
Cuse? Big East? I don't know of what you're talking, UWS.
I think AVB and Spurs were overconfident and are playing some reserves.I agree that RIO and Terry should be put out to pasture. Terry already has.I was thinking of Caulker too.
Nice save by Brad... Inter were so bad last week. What happened
LUFC Academy on for the ineffective Livermore.
This week Spurs decided to be that bad.
Just like Bayern last night.
Ricky Alvarez on for Guarin as Inter make their first change,.
An accurate description from Bob.
What on earth is going on with the back of Palacio's head? He seems to have a tiny braid - why?
Cassano seems to be finding something funny despite being fifteen minutes from elimination here.
That's his trademark hairstyle. He has had that braid for years.
Spurs need to be BALED out
I stole it
Rubin Kazin have completed a 2-0 win over Levante in extra time.
So we've got a Swiss side and a Russian side into the quarters.
Rubin Kazan defeat Levante 2-0 on the night and on agg as One Russian goes through to the quarters and one has been eliminated.
Free kick chance for Inter
Trademark that one, UWS!
BOOM BOOM, UWS!
Bloody Hell... THREE NIL!!!
ALL SQUARE
GOAL !!! 3-0 INTER AND 3-3 ON AGG AS THE FREE KICK DEFLECTED OFF THE WALL AND GALLAS PUT INTO HIS OWN NET
GOAL! Bloody hell - Billy Gallas has stuck it in his own net when it was going wide!
3-3!
Somewhere Gooner is having a good laugh at his former Arsenal mate's expense.
HORROR SHOW FOR GALLAS!
You'd have to fancy Inter now. Spurs haven't shown up tonight and the Italians have all the momentum and home advantage behind them. Another English side out?
Why would Gallas touch that one with his right boot given his position - it could only go in the net!
I agree but Spurs just need one
The free kick came off of what looked like Dembele and somehow Gallas put into his own goal while Kyle Walker has been booked.
What on earth is the ref thinking on that. Yellow card for simulation.
Yeah - but Spurs haven't looked like scoring all night. They set out to park the bus and have let a goal in every twenty minutes or so.
I was thinking the same . Gooner must be laughing hysterically. Not sure what Gallas was thinking. I would think that Inter aould be the favorites to go through
Absolutely. No excuse for Spurs who should have advanced.
Extra time in the San Siro?
USeless by Ade , who is easily knocked off the ball again
Stupid foul by Gallas on Palacio.
I could see Inter scoring a fourth here in the last ten minutes.
Palacio and Cassano have been responsible for each Inter goal. They have been the difference in this match
Me too. If this goes to ET, I only see one winner.
Naughton puts a cross from Palacio out for a corner.
The modern day player is not the sharpest tool in the shed. Some of the fouling is just plain stupid!
No excuses for AVB playing a reserve side. Spurs out of the FA Cup and do not suffer from fixture congestion.
Will FSC stick with this match in extra time or go to Stamford Bridge for the late one?
Again both teams need one but Inter MIGHT need two... ooh almost there by Spurs
Oh - great strike there. The keeper did well!
Great save by Handnovic from Naughton as he turns a long range effort round the post.
Lennon's first touch let him down there... took him wide
Is this a reserve side?
Ping pong action in the box off the corner as Handonovic finally catches the ball.
Not sure, but a poor Spurs effort either way.
Cassano is down injured . That would be a huge loss for Inter.
This looks to be headed to ET.I am not sure what action FSC will take or if they even prepared for this scenario.
A long range effort from Alvarez is easily saved by Brad.
I think it's a full strength side with just the absence of Bale. But it's a mental thing - they went into the match thinking they could just waste time for 90 minutes. I reckon that's always a dangerous policy.
High and wide by Palacio as he easily got past Naughton after a superb crossfield ball from fellow Argie, Cambiasso.
I agree, Bob,. Spurs are paying the price for that policy. Three minutes of stoppage time.
Oh - Cambiasso nearly sewed it up there - very dangerous for Spurs.
JUST WIDE BY CAMBIASO..should have scored
Inter nearly won it as another comical error from Gallas as he tackled in his box by Cambiasso, who shot inches wide.
Spurs scored late last round to advanced
Not a good pass to Parker.. Holtby should know he has no pace
Spurs look clueless... all over
Extra time here we come
USeless cross by Naughton and headed away by Chivu as this one is heading to extra time.
I agree, UWS - Spurs players look pretty shellshocked coming off the pitch with thirty minutes of extra time to come. I don't think they fancy it.
Away we go for an extra 30 mins
ET has kicked off in the Sasn Siro . The second in three matches. Chelsea vs Steau will be on FSC will Toon vs Anzhi on FSC+
ooh, so close from Spurs.. BUGGER
WOW! Vrtonghen should have scored as Handovic turned away a header as he was not marked.
STRUTH... GALLAS MISSES A HEADER!!
Oh - Vertonghen inches away from putting Spurs through. And then Gallas! Spurs showing signs of life.
Could they get a push here from those two chances
Even closer as Ade headed inches wide off the corner. did the players get the hairdryer treatment from AVB
FSC seem to be sticking with this one - no sign of switching over to the Chelski match.
When I was in middle school, Ipswich beat Barca 3-0 in the first leg of the quarters of the CWC at Portman Road then lost 3-0 in the Nou Camp before Barca advanced on pens . They won the CWC that year, I believe.
A number of other fixtures about to begin:
Bordeaux 0 Benfica 1
Chelski 0 Steaua Bucharest 1
Fenerbahce 1 Viktoria Plzen 0
Lazio 2 Stuttgart 0
Newcastle 0 Anzhi 0
Toon players on the pitch for the UEFA anthem at SJP.
GOAL! Spurs have done it! Ade taps one in on the ground! They're through for sure!
YES!!!
ADEBAYOR PUT SPURS BACK IN FRONT
NICE SHOT BUT ADE NETS THE REBOUND
GOAL !!!! ADE WITH A PRICELESS AWAY GOAL AS HANDONOVIC SAVED SHOT FROM DEMBELE AND ADE FLAT ON HIS ARSE SCORES THE REBOUND.
Dembele's spark made that goal. His shot across the keeper produced the bobble and Ade capitalized on it with both feet.
0-1 Spurs!
I, for some reason, looked on youtube the Villa European Cup Final win... there were so many empty seats!!!
Wasn't it big back then!
They should switch over now with maybe a tiny screen on this one. This one is done and dusted.
Toon vs Eto'o,Hiddinck, and co has kicked off from SJP.
Where was that one played?
I thought the EC was big back then. I didn't remember empty seats , but I was wrong.
I think it was in Rotterdam
An early chance for Anzhi went well wide.
Kyle Naughton down with what appears to be an injured hammy.
Stephen Caulker about to come on.
