The team news out of Goodison:
Everton: Mucha; Coleman, Heitinga, Distin, Baines; Mirallas, Osman, Neville, Pienaar, Fellaini; Jelavic
Wigan: Robles; Boyce, Alcaraz, Scharner, Figueroa; McManaman, McCarthy, Gomez, Beausejour; Maloney, Koné
Tony Jones and Matt Jackson on the commentary team this morning. And thankfully, no more of the Yank announcer who's been mispronouncing everyone's name. Apparently Everton are starting "John Moocha" in goal. Crikey!
Here goes COYB!
Morning Boys
I am here as Wigan gets us going
Wigan get us underway in their black change strip.
Morning, chaps - hope you've had a good week.
I'm not as worried about Howard being out as I am Jagielka. Heitinga is a liability, I'd rather see Duffy get a shot.
Oh - early chance for Distin from the corner. Might have hit the target.
Good morning. Distin heads just wide from the corner.
You don't have any faith in "John Moocha" in goal, MUR?
Ooh that was close.
Jordi Gomez went diving in there late on the Little Neviller.
Morning, MUR - how are you, mate?
Scharner gets it in the noggin off a fierce shot from Mirallis and the ref immediately stops play
Scharner takes on right on the old hooter.
Wigan defender caught one in the face.
Great . I am glad to be starting Spring Break today. How are you?
I don't think Mucha should be a liability. He's an experienced international and should be a decent deputy.
Mucha is more than adequate back there, it's Heitinga and Neville that frighten me.
I haven't responded to the recent LOB posts because I was really busy this week. I would like to do that today as there were some really interesting posts.
Just finished an email to me bruv . i told he he should join us
Found an SS link... they will ignore the Cup match though!
http://www.firstrow1.eu/watch/173611/1/watch-soccer-saturday.html
Good point, Someone. I don't blame you.
Oh - Maloney drifts one onto the Everton post - close call there!
OH! A curling effort came off the inside post from Maloney. Mucha was caught by surprise.
Maloney off the post. Lucky.
PA announcer suggesting the Wigan supporters sit down for their safety. Yikes!
A crackling atmosphere in Goodison today and a nice pace to this match so far.
That was not Mucha off by Maloney.
Struth... I thought that was in.... that was just like Maloney's goal against United last season
The tv and link are EXACTLY the same time.
I'm glad that you caught that tannoy announcement, Someone. I couldn't quite hear the end of it underneath the commentary.
Morning MUR
Haven't heard from you all week. Everything okay?
Didn't hear from you after the Nani incident
I thought I heard the announcer saying something to the Wigan fans about child safety
What is with this about Howard having broken bones in his back!
Yes. I am doing well UWS. Thank you for asking. It was a busy week and I missed the United match because I was teaching at the time and couldn't get a link to the match. I watched it that evening . I was just as upset as SAF about the red card. I am even more upset that UEFA are backing the ref.
This is my final four prediction(hope)
Everton, Barnsley, United, Rovers
Semi... Rovers v United, Everton Barnsley
Final United v Everton
Why is Jelavic so off the boil? He was red hot last year.
I know that he is injured , but didn't know how.
Barnsley, UWS? You're dreaming, right?
Howard was in a collision at the end of the Oldham match. Looked painful.
Jelavic has lost confidence, and it's sad to watch.
Jordi Gomez wins a corner off of Neville.
You've got to get on Facebook, UWS - MUR had several comments about Nani there.
Alcaraz heads well wide off the corner from Beausejour.
That is true, BD. I said we were robbed.
I knew you were teaching at the time and I knew you weren't going to join us but I was waiting for a comment in the evening
BTW everyone, I did give my two cents about my email transferred on to the LOB by the commish.
Only two of us have commented
I don't do BOOK FACE
Decent half chance there from Kone-a.
Wigan on the front foot here. Lots of chances.
I would love to see Barnsley win at the Etihad, but I don't see that happening. They upset Chelsea about five years ago.
Kone headed just wide off the cross from Maloney
Great save by Robles from Jelavic. Haven't heard of him.
Did you read the rumors of a plan of United and Nike getting Ronaldo to Old Trafford.
Nike want him in their shirt!
I wonder why Al Habsi was dropped. He can't be faulted for any of the goals last week. His defense did not help out.
What about all of the Rooney out to PSG in the summer rumors?
I have heard about that, but am not sure that is very likely.I would love to see that transpire.
What a difference a win makes... panel talking about QPR surviving. Le Tis doesn't think they will stay up. The rest think they have a shot
It is only 4 points
I don't see any chance of Ronaldo returning to United.
What helps QPR is that they have a relatively easy run in compared with their rivals.
Fergie has said Roon is saying... of course he said the same about Beckham and Ronaldo
Again, it wouldn't bother me.
Bring in Lewandowski... Ronaldo
I didn't either but the link with Nike has made me think
Pienaar and Baines show some good ability that comes to nothing, then Neville shoots wide.
QPR definitely have a chance . Four points is a small deficit. Wigan had a much greater deficit last year at this time and managed to survive.
What Prem match is on FSC at 10?
Not sure you need Lewandowski now with RVP at the club.
Looks like a penguin, UWS.
I agree with both statements, UWS. I expect Roon to leave and as you stated SAF has done this in the past.I wonder where Roon would go.
Seriously, though - it's the relegation dogfight between Reading and Villa.
I think it's Reading vs Villa.
United's match against West Ham should have been on the telly as I type!
Wonder when we will play them... we have plenty of midweeks available now!
Classic BD
Ta, UWS.
I like the penguin remark too.
I think United would play at Upton Park in April. The earliest available midweek match would be the first week of April, due to the international break
Decent save there from "Moocha."
Deserved goal for Wigan. Sheesh.
GOAL...WIGAN HAVE TAKEN THE LEAD!!!
I AMS SHOCKED!
GOAL! Wigan have been knocking on the door and now they have scored. Figueroa with the breakthrough. Sorry, Someone.
GOAL!!!! WIGAN TAKE THE LEAD AT GOODISON AS FIGUEROA HEADS IN A CORNER.
Wasn't the keeper impeded there from the corner?
GORDON BENNETT...TWO NIL
Un-freaking-believable. Everton are stunned.
GOAL! WIgan have struck Everton for two! McManaman. And the Toffees fans are booing now.
0-2 - am I shocked too!
Nice goal... well finished
GOAL!!!! TWO IN A MINUTE AS CALLUM MACMANAMAN SCORES WITH JSUT MUCHA TO BEAT. POOR BACK PASS FROM NEVILLE. GREAT FINISH FROM THE FORMER EVERTON ACADEMY PLAYER
No question about that goal; Everton's backfour were caught square. Good finish by the Everton old boy.
Sorry Someone. There's plenty of time for Desmond.
Horrible defending by the home side. Horrible.
The Little Neviller will be getting the David Moyes hairdryer treatment at half-time.
It was exactly ONE minute between the goals.... that is including the celebration.
OH MY GIDDY AUNT... THREE NIL!!
0-3! Unreal! Jordi Gomez with the third goal in about five minutes!
Great finish
30, 31 and 33!!!
What the heck. A disgraceful display by Everton. All this talk about getting a trophy ends here. Down 3-0 at home. Poor. So poor.
GORDON BENNETT!!! IT'S 0-3 AS MALONEY PUT KONE DOWN THE LEFT AND JORDI GOMEZ SCORED WITH A GREAT FINISH. MUCHA WAS FLAT FOOTED.
Moyesy looking rightly pissed off.
Dave Whelan broke his leg in the FA Cup Final while playing for Blackburn in 1960
Everton is out of ideas at the 35 minute mark.
Three goals in four and a half minutes according to the LOB clock.
This is stunning!
Can Everton get it back?
A goal before half.. then only two back
WOW! I didn't know that Dave Whelan played for Blackburn, but I would believe that he played back in 1960.
Cithe came from three down at the half and a man down at WHL. It can be done.
Bad news, UWS - along with the loyal fan Someone Said, you chose Everton for the Cup. Can anyone say 3-3?
I do not see anyone on that bench coming in to motivate this side to a goal, let alone a win.
If Wigan win then they would be in their first semifinal.Bob might remember Wigan's only other FA Cup quarterfinal appearance.
Neville goes into the book. A yellow card and an assisst. Ryo Miachi, on loan form Arsenal, is on for Callum Macmanaman
Goalscorer McManaman is replaced before half-time.
Did you see any of Spur midweek against Inter?
They crushed them. Inter looked poor! Of course, they wore all read because black and blue stripes clash with white
Bale scored and got a yellow for diving for a pen. He is out of the second leg but with the tie almost over it might be a blessing
But, Bale needs to knock it off! I read an article saying that if it was Suarez we call him a cheat... but Bale is getting a pass
JUST KNOCK IT OFF GARETH!!
Now Osman is booked. Will Everton finish with eleven players.
Was Maloney hurt?
Beausejour wins a corner off of Coleman after being put through by Maloney
Doubtful, MUR - they're getting really frustrated.
It was Maloney that came off... it was the second goal scorer
The corner is cleared..
Did Everton even start eleven? They get to play Man. City next week. They going to be as inspired for top five finish the way they were today?
Yes, Bale needs to cut it out.
Macmanaman came off injured. He will be really disappointed as he is a former Everton Academy player. He will be delighted to have scored against the team that let him go.
Well, Wigan still in the Cup... we have beaten them 4-0 in a League Cup Final. Millwall still in the Cup... we have beaten them 3-0 in a FA Cup Final!
Oh - Maloney nearly in for #4 there.
Mucha did well to tip over the free kick from Maloney. That could have been four
Maloney's free kick almost went in
WHY ARE WIGAN SO FAR DOWN THE LEAGUE... THEY'RE A GOOD SIDE
The corner failed to beat the first player
Now Mucha is being referred to as "Macca" by Tony Jones. Is his name really that hard to pronounce?
Three minutes of stoppage time.
I am a Toffee early next Saturday!!
I don't think Wigan are really that good - perhaps good enough to stay up though - just Everton switched off for five. minutes.
Just Citeh's luck for Everton to be on a downer as they visit
We had to go there on the first day!
Wigan headed for their first ever FA Cup semi. Bob might remember their only other FA Cup quarterfinal./
They look dangerous going forward.
They are playing like they did at the end of last season... they looked good
Mirallis over shoots everyone. Poor. SO poor.
I am a Toffee next Saturday too.
I wouldn't care if Wigan went down... it's a RUGBY town
Wigan hit peak form around this time last season.
Cue a chorus of boos in 10 secs
There it is!
Half-time: Boos all round Goodison. What on earth can David Moyes say at half-time?
Halftime and Wigan lead 0-3 at Goodison. Boos from the Toffee fans.
It will be more like yell, Fergie style.
I wonder if Moyes will make any changes. I would take off Neville.
WOW! CALL ME NOSTRADAVIDUS! Anichebe on for Neville as the second half is underway. I agree with the change.
Everton attack from the off and a dangerous cross from Baines is cleared
Tame effort from Kone straight to Mucha.
We're back on for the second half. The Little Neviller has been sacrificed. Bet he got a roasting in the dressing room from the gaffer. Anichebe on. It's a bold move but they've got to roll the dice.
I am back from getting dressed. I am now skyping with EX Chelskilad
Maloney picks up a yellow after some loose passing and then an inartful chop on Mirales.
Mirallis fouled just outside the box by Maloney
This one needs to fly in from Baines if Everton are to dream of a historic come-back today.
Baines fires through the wall but Robles hangs on.
Agreed, BD. It was the correct substitution as Hair Bear shot just wide after a free kick from Baines was straight to Robles.
Fellaini has a half-chance now - always slicing wide. But Everton have certainly regained the momentum.
Do you remember Wigan's last FA Cup quarterfinal, Bob?
How is Ex Chelskilad?
Wigan can afford to invite Everton to attack and hit them on their counter. That is their bread and butter.
A pass from Kone is deflected for a corner. Intended for Beausejour.
Take off Heitinga and put Barkley in while you're at it Moyes.
The corner is cleared by the first defender. Poor.
That would be a great substitution, Someone.
MUR... exchelskilad says hello to you
The rest of you... bugger off... you ignored him!
Hair Bear booked and deservedly so for a foul on Maloney. Why doth he protest?
I don't, MUR - what was it?
Heya, Tony - come on back, lad.
Thanks, UWS. I say hello to EX Chelskilad. Hope all is well.
No creativity in the mid field. Guys have no direction out there, have not all game. Fellaini booked.
Can this team regroup after this and play for a European spot. I'm not so sure. Too many questions.
No Jagielka really weakens the back four.
Wigan seem to have weathered the initial onslaught.
That's unfortunate to hear - I had thought of Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka as the England center back pairing going forward. Maybe Stephen Caulker instead?
The Toffees win a corner. Jelavic with a pathetic header
30 minutes left to score three. I'm not sure they're going to get one.
Actually, a clash of heads between Jelavic and Figueroa as the Honduran headed clear,
I don't think so. Sorry Someone. Everton needed an early second half goal. The first FA Cup semi for Wigan
I agree, MUR - an early goal was vital to continue the momentum.
Wigan has earned it. No excuses for Everton. When you do not show up, you don't win.
The answer was 1987. Wigan lost to Leeds in the '87 quarterfinal. It think that was Leeds's last FA Cup semi.
Fans booing Osman as he gives up on Beausejour, the runner.
That was in he dark ages when I wasn't able to follow English football.
Pathetic defending by Hair Bear and Mucha saved at the near post from Figueroa.
Did Wigan lose to Leeds in their last Quarter Final appearance?
I am curious. Where is Roon heading this summer? I haven't a clue!
That is correct, UWS. Their only other quarterfinal appearance.
Wigan just look a step quicker than Everton in every department. I don't know why?
The tannoy asks for some appreciation for Fellaini and he gets some booing instead. ManYoo old boy coming on.
I would guess Wigan lost to Leeds in the 87 Quarters.
Leeds then lost to Coventry... who then went on to win the Cup
Hair Bear booed as he comes off. Darren Gibson on as that is +1 for the MUFC Academy Factor.
PSG seem to be the club interested in him. The rumor was that United were looking for a swap with Real for Skippy. Real said, "nothing doing." Not surprised.
Absolutely correct, UWS. Well done.
Do you think Hair Bear was booed or was the booing for him going off?
Home crowd really giving it to their team. What other recourse do they have to pay to see this rubbish on the pitch?
PSG sounds about right. That is what I would expect. He will love the Paris night life.
Is Moyes saving HB for Citeh
I think Fellaini was taken off to prevent another yellow, yes. Deserved boos.
I agree Someone. I think the crowd booed Hair Bear or is it Hair Bare?
Ouch.. that guy looks hurt
Ryo was taken out there by Mirales.
Naughty by Mirallis on Miachi. How was that not a foul or a booking?
Twenty minutes left. Does Everton have a goal in them?
Baines has a go from distance but Robles collects.
Poor cross from Baines easily caught by Robles.
James McArthur replaces the Japanese Arsenal player.
James MacArthur on for Miachi. A defensive middie on for an attacking one.
Everton are losing their heads!!
I am stunned!!
Jelavic should focus on his lack of goal scoring instead of taking it out on the ref.
THey are blaming the ref!!
Don't concede three goals in three minutes
Goal... no... offside
Jelavic needs to shut it. He should be booked. Looked like a legitimate clearance. Jelavic should be more committed to footie than to debating.
Mirallis scoring after being blatantly whistled off does not help the cause.
Mirallis sticks one in but he's ruled offside.
I agree. Everton need to blame themselves. The ref has had a better performance than they have.
