Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Good morning UWS. It sure is a big one. Another Derby north of the border as Dundee United lead 1-2 at Dundee in the Scottish Cup quarters. United look set to join Celtic and Falkirk in the semis. The stadiums are just a few blocks apart.
Dundee United have held on to win 1-2 and are in the Scottish Cup semis.
Morning, chaps - I'm settling in with a bagel and cuppa after a late night out at the movies with friends and a lie in. Really looking forward to the big one now.
Morning Boys
I am back from a cold walk in blowing snow
It has been nice to be able to sleep in both days of this weekend

BREAKING TEAM NEWS - Tottenham v Arsenal (1600 GMT)
And Tottenham make two changes from the side which won at West Ham. Benoit Assou-Ekotto returns at left-back, with Steven Caulker dropping out, while Gylfi Sigurdsson comes in for Lewis Holtby.

BREAKING TEAM NEWS - Tottenham v Arsenal (1600 GMT)
Arsenal make one change from the side which beat Aston Villa last weekend, as Aaron Ramsey comes in for Abou Diaby
Hello lads. I already had brekkies.I will take Elizabeth and the girls to Denny's , but should be back in time for the big one. The weather has been spectacular the past few days. Sunny with Vegas like humidity, but really breezy.
I have been listening to 5Live this morning... still am ... I heard an interesting fact... Ryan Giggs has played more premier league games than Manchester City!!
Of course, IF United win the title he will be tied 3rd on the list of championships... United 20, Pool 18, Arsenal and Giggs 13
LINE-UPS- Tottenham v Arsenal (1600 GMT)

Referee: Mark Clattenburg (Tyne & Wear)
As MUR has said, Dundee Utd beat there NEARBY neighbors Dundee 2-1 in the Scottish Cup Quarters.
The holders, Kilmarnock, are losing at home early to Hibs
Alan Green thinks that if Bale goes to Barca or Real, he will go back to left back!
Look what has happened to Modric. A star for Spurs and now Modric couldn't even get a start yesterday with seven players rested for the CL
I think he just needs to follow the road forged by Carrick, Sheringham and Berbatov!!
Killie have tied it up in the Cup
I enjoyed watching Match of the Day last night on First Row and 5:30... great to hear the music again
The preview show has started on FSC and, oh dear, it's a Piers Morgan moment. Apparently he's a life-long Gunners fan. Answer that, Gooner!
Piers Morgan is on FSC
Worst transfer of all time RVP to United
24 points behind...1 point for every million pounds paid to Arsenal for him
As I said yesterday, he is a huge Gooner and said during his predictions... "I don't want to be over confident.... Arsenal 8-0"
Piers is not a fan of the Professor, then. Just gave a call to my Dad. He and the Gooner are watching together; they're not very confident.
Don't start Ramsey and expect to win
Merta far too slow for Bale... he is going terrorized... it's going to be painful
Piers is not a happy chappy
That's nice they are watching it together
Do they live close to each other?
Arsene doesn't think that you plan for Gareth Bale. Your thoughts, lads?
Looking at the table, QPR are only 4 points from safety....they're not doomed!
Yeah - Dad's place is about fifteen minutes away. They often watch matches together on the weekends.
Yeah - Dad's place is about fifteen minutes away. They often watch matches together on the weekends.
Fergie had a plan for Rondaldo
He still scored... but only once!
ALRIGHT ALRIGHT... I LISTENED THE FIRST TIME!!!
I was thinking that too, UWS, but then I was reminded by 606 that yesterday was only their third win of the season! They probably need 18 more points to achieve safety - not sure that's possible with only ten matches left.
Hibs back in front agains the Cup holders
Sorry - I've developed the LOB stutter. Oops.
Could imagine if United had bought Bale back when?
It was between them and Spurs. Again, he was a left back at the time, I wonder if he would have stayed there under SAF
I read a think about Lehman was talking about Bale's brilliant winner against West Ham... he called it a volley!
AM I WRONG... A VOLLEY IS HIT WITH NO BOUNCE!!!
THis is QPR's next four games
Sunderland H
Villa A
Fulham A
Wigan H
That could be six or more points
I think Harry's going to do it again
That's what I consider a volley. Hit before the ball hits the ground.
Thank you... we are both smarter than most!
What do you think of Piers' comments
Also, with a previous comment, do you think Bale should go to Spain?
Modric is a perfect example of not going
Half time in Kilmarnock
Hibs winning 2-1
I agree that with Piers that FOURTH IS NOT A TROPHY. A TROPHY IS A TROPHY
Today, is the anniversary of AVB's last match in charge at the Bridge
Tottenham's next four matches
Arsenal, Inter, Liverpool, Inter
Hello lads. I am back and even made a trip to the loo. Did I make it back in time?
I noticed your comments about the championships. Giggs tied third with Arsenal and SAF?
Teams coming out of the tunnel
Bale should follow the path of Drac and Carrick. He won't be the same player with Real. The system won't allow it.
Teams out on the pitch at Shite Fart now.
QPR is only four points from safety. Why can't they do it?
Of course, if Spurs win... they will go back up to 3rd above Chelsea
Arsenal would be 5 points behind Chelsea for fourth
No Arsene side has finished behind Spurs
Who was their manager the last time Spurs finished above them?
Tough run for Spurs. Will they tank the matches vs Inter? QPR can get wins at Villa and vs Wigan. Why can't they survive?
The record of English players going abroad. For every one that was successful (e.g., McManaman) there are 10 Jonathan Woodgates.
I just forwarded a thread that Mark "The Kaiser" Williams sent to me and the Gooner about Kevin Keegan's destabilizing effect on Hamburg. I had no idea!
Was it Bruce Rioch?
Welcome back MUR
Away we go
They're off from SFL.
Gooner calls is "The Wenger Cup."
Thanks UWS. great to be here. A great day to be outdoors , but there is the small matter of a North London Derby with CL ramifications
No it wasn't
First chance for Bale to float one in to the big men early doors.
Early Spurs free kick. The free kick from Bale was just too high for Dawson .He was offside.
Bloody hell - Michael Dawson got free there. High line from the Arsenal back four. He nearly broke the offside trap. Me no likey.
Was it Terry Neill?
I don't like Wilshere and Ramsey playing together. They tend to neutralize each other. I'd rather have a different kind of player out right.
What's the question - I missed it.
Breakneck early pace to this match.
Now the Gunners have a free kck. Head tennis in the box of the Wilshere free kick
Do think Spurs have little brother feeling about Arsenal.. whatever they do, however they are playing Arsenal win
Good point , BD.I wou;d prefer Rosicky over Ramsey
I've never liked the telly coverage from Shite Fart. The main camera angle is always too high - almost like a blimp shot.
I I expect a much closer match than the 5-2 drubbing
Stewart Houston answer was just given!! DAMN IT!!
ex United fullback. He was injured for the 77 Cup Final and his place was taken by a very young Arthur Albiston.. Albiston offered his medal to him
I never noticed it.I remember passing by SFL on the way to Heathrow in 1978.Every brick wall was spray painted with gang graffiti.
That is amazing about Dawson. He was going to be sold but now captain
Great attacking run by Walker - I like to see that from the England man.
Classy by Albiston . That would never happen today. I didn't pick Houston because I thought he was just around briefly as a caretaker between George Graham and Rioch.I thought he was around for just a few months.
Giroud wins a corner off of Vertonghen.
The corner from Theo is headed out by Ade.
Theo hits the first man with his corner. Club fine!
Oh - great through ball to Giroud but Vertonghen's tackle was fantastic. End to end stuff here - enthralling!
Nice through ball to Girouid , but superb saving tackle by Vertonghen
I think Arthur . Albiston was the only player from the Tommy Docherty era that was at United when SAF took over.He didn't last though.
I was chaparone for Burnt Hills High School when we took a trip over to England in 1990. I was the JV coach at the time and I got to go free. I sorted out a game with Lakenheath High School. We drew 1-1 at Feltwell. The boys had a homestay with boys from Lakenheath. We had a BBQ at Mike's house with the tennis court and swimming pool. It was a lot of fun
We beat a team from Glouster and then played two games in London. A certan boy scored a last minute header from a corner in the first one... a certain Davey Beckham! He was part of the second team we lost 2-0 but never really touched the ball the whole match!
I know it was Becks, the varsity coach called me when he got sent off against Argentina in 98. He had his name written in a diary
Sorry... back to the match
I forgot the main reason why I started a comment about our trip
When we were in London, we had a tour of WHL. Got to go in the dressing room, out the tunnel, look at the pitch
Arsenal on top to start
Great story UWS. A fantastic experience. I am really delighted for you.One to tell the grandchildren!
Did they explain why the telly camera angle was so high?
Definitely a great experience.
I remember shaking his hand and noticing he was already wearing United socks!
I always wondered who he was until I got the phone call in 98
The match has settled a bit now at the fifteen minute mark.
Not nice , BD. We need praise UWS for the great experience.
Sorry mate... they didn't
The stand is pretty close to the pitch
I got a chance to meet Joe Max Moore at Dulles Airport once - does that count?
I am not sure about that. I think each team is trying to establish a rhythm and die to the occasion each team is playing cautiously.
NO IT DOESN'T
It definitely does count, BD.
Gary Lineker, Match of the Day host
"Proper game!
Spurs need to change this ludicrous high-line, off-side game plan sharpish. With no pressure on the ball it's suicidal. Basics..."
I have met Phil Thompson, Greg Downs of Norwich and Derek Christie of Cambridge United ,when he was speaker at an end of season AYA dinner.
Cheers, MUR - it was a big moment for me. I bought him a coffee at Starbucks and had a chat. It was just after he'd scored the winning goal that day in a friendly against Argentina. He was amazed to hear that a fan had flown down from Boston just for the match. That was in the day when no one gave a toss.
Good point by Lineker.
Of course, I shaken the hand of Prince Charles
That was nasty from Ade - Gooner would love to see the old boy sent off. But it's just a yellow for now.
Ade booked for a rash challenge. I agree with Mark.
Yeah, yeah, yeah - but he's rubbish at football.
That is a good story BD
Yellow for Adebayor
A great experience, BD. How did you shake Prince Charles' hand? I thought that was impossible based on the massive security.
Good possession now from the Gunners.
Just too long by Parker for Siggy. A great idea.
I've heard Charlie has a cultrual left foot and is not afraid to leave the boot in
Nice possesion by Arsenal, but a poor final ball from Giroud, who has struggled to make an impact in this match
He came to Mildenhall and I wore my Letterjacket thinking it was give him something to talk about. He saw it, came straight over to me and asked me about my badges... A reporter than came and asked what he had said to me.
I've heard the same ,UWS.
He tackles like Scholes by doens't have his passing ability
Nice tackle by Walker on Theo and Lloris fails to prevent the corner. Theo makes up for failing to beat the first man , but overcooking this corner.
Great story , UWS. You did better than the reporter. Which player tackles like Scholes. Are you talking about Young Jack?
Listened to 5Live today and there was an interview with Theo... he said 'it was never about the money'
Rubbish
I've heard that Charlie only really gets going when he's playing away from home.
Aaron L:ennon wins the first Spurs corner after he did well to get past Monreal.
NOt a good corner by Bale
Rubbish corner from Bale - club fine!
And then the worst dive ever from Ade. Should have got a second yellow.
Agreed with you about Theo as I was watching a crap corner from Bale.
Killie have scored to make it Desmond vs Hibs in the Scottish Cup quarters
Vertonghen booked for a rash tackle on Giroud.
Yellow now from Vertonghen for chopping Giroud.
BOOM, BOOM, UWS. NICE CHARLIE REMARK!
And now it's Aaron Ramsey into the book. A flurry of cards on the half hour mark.
Three bookings already
Not going to end 11 v 11 I fear.
Nothing nasty but accumilation
nAUGHTY BY rAMSEY ON lufc aCADEMY bOY
Cheers, MUR - I try.
Useless free kick by Bale
Killie have tied it up against Hibs
Desmond
I think all the yellows have been merited. I haven't seen any soft bookings.
Just noticed your score update... sorry mur
Useless cross by Ramsey fails to beat the first man.I guess Arsenal players can't cross either
Oh dear - my feed has frozen - yours?
No probs, UWS. Probably a late goal.Looks like the only replay in the Scottish cup quarters .
No feed problems in Harlingen. Sorry, BD,.
What feed?
Aren't you watching it on the telly?
I'm back on. Good game so far, despite the lack of goals.
That's what I mean - the satellite feed.
I had no interuption
I noticed this being the anniversary of the AVB sacking at Chelsea. Are the Royal Blues any better off without AVB?He is doing just as well with Spurs as anyone is with Chelsea.
I was hoping for a better game
There has been no shots on goal yet
Me either.
GOAL! It's that man Bale again. "He scores when he wants."
GOAL !!!! SPURS TAKE THE LEAD AND WHO ELSE , BUT BALE SCORES.
ONE NIL... SPURS
BALE BRAKES THE OFFSIDE TRAP...SLOTST IT HOME
Was onside
How is that not offside - Bale and Ade were both off!
Gooner not pleased at the linesman, I can bet you.
I don't think it was a beautiful finish... should have used his right foot
It was a good decision though
It all started with a goal kick from Seudio and Spurs winning the head tennis battle in the center circle. Nice through ball from Siggy and great finish from Bale .
Merta was keeping them on.. he was closer to the ball then the other two
TWO NIL... ALMOST A CARBON COPY OF THE FIRST
GOAL !!!! 0-2 SPURS AND LUFC ACADEMY BOY ROUNDS THE KEEPER FROM A NICE THROUGH BALL . DEFINITELY ONSIDE.
Bloody hell - it's 2-0 now! Arsenal fell apart there. LUFC Academy this time - great run breaking the offside trap and rounding the keeper.
Sorry . I meant 2-0. Hibs now lead 2-3 at Killie.
I thought Bale was a shoulder ahead of Mert. Want to see it again.
Spurs have never lost when Lennon has scored... not a big stat... he hardly ever scores!
They are not pleased in Alex, but Is BD pleased with the way Lennon scored?
It wasn't the bloke near him, it was Merta that was closer to the ball
The Gunners wina corner off of Asiou -Ekotu and it's a wasted short corner. Seudio is out to clear as Walker was through on the break.
Tony's boss must be cocka-hoop... he is probably at the match. His seat is the other end
LUFC Academy style there, for sure. He's class.
I will be willing to check the replay of the goal at the half.
Matt said something about a foul before Lennon's goal. I did see someone go down on the replay. Didn't see it live
Arsenal to win 5-2?
I am not sure Gooner or dad will see it that way even though I agree with you, BD. Tony's boss must be on cloud nine!
I don't see a 5-2 win on the cards.
Hibs now lead 2-4 at Killie. Surely the Edinburgh side have booked a place in the semis.
Can't wait to hear Piers' comments at half time
Into stoppage time. How much?
Me either. I will check the goals to see if they were legit.
Looks like the Scottish Cup holders will be knocked out at the quarter final stage.... let's hope the same happens in England next weekend
Arteta gets a bollocking for going in on Ade.
I see that UWs stated two minutes.
Half time
Sorry DC Dahlgrens!
Is your dad a Gooner?
Halftime and 2-0 to Spurs. I hope the holders are eliminated next Sunday. It's the late match
Piers is not happy!
Hibs through to the semis as they win 2-4 at Killie.
I don't blame him. Gooner and dad are probably not either.
I am back from the loo
Did the replays show it was onside?
We are off for the second half
I saw the replays of both goals and will start with the second goal. I replayed that three times and did not see a foul.I saw Spurs being more committed in the tackle ad Merte ball watching. Sounds like a valid second goal. Now the first goal . I replayed that four times because it was that close, so I would say goal to Spurs because if it's that close than it's not an obvious offside decision and the benefit is supposed to go to the attacker. Also, the linesman has to make a split second decision without the aid of a replay.Bale's right arm and shoulder may have been offside by about an inch, but Merte needs to learn how to line up for an offside trap. The main criticism should have been the awful Arsenal defending
I think they were both onside
The second half is underway. My opinion is that it was too close too call. Bale may have been AN INCH OFFSIDE, so I think it was the right decision to award the goal
I didn't see a foul on the second goal, just good crisp tackling> no controversies.
The line shown during the celebration time looked like it was close but on
I've just had a half-time chat with Gooner and Dad. They're not happy campers with the side. I think they want Wenger taken out back and shot at the end of the match. Harsh words from them. Dad used to be a Spurs fan when we were kids - but he won't even admit that now. He's all Arsenal now.
Curled high and wide by Siggy.
Put Merte in front of the firing squad too.
I looked at it again - it's very tight. Bale might have been a shoulder off but at the speed he's moving, it's impossible for the linesman to catch it.
Spurs would be only 2 points behind Citeh... could they finish second?
A wins moves Spurs back up to third. Double joy for AVB. A win in the North London Derby and he will move ahead of the team that sacked him a year ago and ii appears wrongly sacked him.
Is it a goal to complain about?
Only if Citeh lose at Villa tomorrow night. I don;t see that happening.I agree BD. Too close too call.
GOAL.... MERTA WITH A HEADER!!
Spurs fans not happy
GOAL! Arsenal have one back - the come-back is on!
2-1!
Great run and flicked header there from the big man.
GOAL!!! GUNNERS BACK IN THE MATCH AS MERTE HEADS IN A FREE KICK FROM THEO
Deflected off Bale's head too
Adebayor let him go
I don't understand why strikers come back and mark the defenders...defenders should pick them up..they're the ones always getting the headers
How a goal changes the atmosphere just like that!!
The first time Theo put in a decent delivery this match, the Gunners score and Merte did something right the first time this match
Arsenal are rampant now! Jenkinson with a dangerous ball over and Lloris had to get there ahead of Ramsey and Giroud.
STRUTH... I THOUGHT WAS GOING TO BE THE EQUALIZER!!
I am sure Gooner was off his couch there!
