The American Connection
A very good morning to all of you out in LOB-land. We start this morning with a fascinating match-up at Craven Cottage between two teams that have made a strategic effort to bring along American players from the MLS. Fulham pioneered the trend but the likes of Brian McBridge, Carlos Bocanegra and Clint Dempsey are all long gone. Enter Stoke City: Jeff Cameron is now at the heart of their defense and new boy Brek Shea starts on the bench for the first time today. Join me for all of the Yank action.

The team news out of Craven Cottage:
Fulham - Schwarzer, Riether, Senderos, Hangeland, Riise, Duff, Sidwell, Karagounis, Dejagah, Ruiz, Berbatov. Subs: Etheridge, Baird, Petric, Hughes, Rodallega, Emanuelson, Kacanikic.
Stoke - Begovic, Shotton, Huth, Shawcross, Wilson, Walters, Nzonzi, Whlan, Cameron, Etherington, Crouchie. Subs: Sorenson, Jones, Adam, Whitehead, Kightly, Shea, Jerome.
Good morning BD. Great to join you for the EPL action. I was looking at the menu for the matches and right below QPR vs Man United it said " Who's Harry Crumb?" Coincidence?
We're underway from Craven Cottage.
Stoke immiediately attack and Fulham struggle to clear.
Morning MUR - great to have you on board. Surely just a neat coincidence there.
Just over by Risse , but he controlled with his hand prior to shooting
These are two sides who are mid-table but not really relegation threatened most years and this season is much the same.
Thanks, BD. Stoke's away strip looks like an old Palace kit.
I'm off for a tick to get some coffee started.
Bryan Ruiz with a long range effort that must have landed in the Thames.
See you in a tick.
I am not sure why we start the day with a mid table clash between two teams who are out every other competition.
Stoke the team with Yanks at Fulham , the team that used to have Yanks.
Steve Sidwell concedes a free kick. All the big men are up for this one as Glen whelan shoots high and wide.
OH!! nearly the lead for Stoke as Etherington got behind the Fulham defense , but Walters slipped off his tasty cross and probably would have given Stoke the lead.
Back with a cuppa to see Drac volley one acrobatically over the top.
Now Fulham take the lead as Dejagah put Riethe down the right . It would have been controversial as Drac controlled the cross with his hand then volleyed about a foot over.
He controlled with his hand so that he could volley over. Naughty Drac!
Naughty by Marc wilson on Dejgagh
Free kick in and Bryan Ruiz tries a Mano a Dios routine and gets a yellow card for his troubles.
A goal by Bryan Ruiz is called off as Bryan Ruiz put the free kick from Duff in the goal with his hand . An easy decision.
The home side doing all of the early running here.
The menu for 10 AM
QPR vs United FSC
Arsenal vs Villa FSC+
Bristol City vs Barnsley BEIN
Nzonzi got clobbered by Drac when they went up together. Lots of naughiness early doors in this contest. Nzonzi's bleeding a bit now.
That is to be expected. I wonder if this is the early match to please the Yanks as Stoke have three and Fulham used to have several.
Two for Drac as he did a manao a dios , but was not caught. He's a sneaky bugger!
You must be loving the BEIN these days - you've got the Cup on tomorrow. I'll be on a dodgy link or two.
Nzonzi's staggering off now - it seems worse than at first blush. And the Cottagers fans are giving him the right business as well.
And now Drac knocks the ball into the corner. A bit more aggro than you'd expect between these two sides.
Sorry mate. I will watch the cup final on BEIN , but will forego the Championship relegation match today for QPR vs United.
Who's the third Yank on Stoke - I know about Cameron and Brek Shea.
Riethe wins a Fulham corner after being put through by Dejagah
I think that's a wise choice. The Villa v. Arsenal will be fascinating today. Villa are obviously desperate for the points and not playing too badly. And Arsenal are coming off two catastrophic losses.
Begovic catches the corner from Duff.
The third Tank is Mo Edu, but he hasn't gotten a sniff in at the Brittania. Break Shea makes it two Texans in the EPL.
We've got the classic early morning police warning match-up in the Championship next weekend. Leeds v. Millwall.
Another Fulham corner. The corner from Duff is headed out. and Stoke on the attack, but it comes to nothing.
Ah - I hadn't realized that Mo Edu had made the move from Rangers. Interesting.
Duff with a great chance, but it's blocked. All Fulham.
Begovic saves easily from Risse.
Good run from Riise there but he could only toe poke it at Begovic in the end. Easy save.
Ian and Macca are desperate to see a Brek Shea entrance to this game. Now they're hoping that Matthew Etherington is crocked.
I will be around for the first half of the Police Derby , but will have to leave after that as Melanie has a music competition. She has her final tennis meet of the season today, so I will probably miss the first few minutes of the second half of this match.
Nzonzi's still smarting from that biff on the nose and he's cuffed Ruiz around the ear. Wow - got away with it.
Great effort from Karagounis that Begovic does well with.
ESPN get their wishes - an early entrance for Brek Shea!
Good possession now for Stoke. Crouch wastes it with a wild shot over the top.
Back from a lengthy trip to the loo. Did I miss much?
Dave Kemp , in a pre- match interview, basically stated that Brek Shea is Etherington's understudy
Nice touch by Shea, but he showed his rustiness with that pass.
Oh - Drac got the touch all wrong when he could have played in Ruiz there.
Oh dear - Shea got roasted there. Pulis won't like the look of that. He likes a player who will work a bit harder than that.
Begovic beats away a cross from Riethe.
Wilson picks up a card for a wild challenge on Dejagah.
I wonder if Dejagah "moves like Jagger" in his spare time?
Marc wilson booked for a foul on Dejagah. Wilson has fouled the Iranian several times this match and the ref finally lost patience with Wilson.
Nice one, BD. I was thinking of Mick Jagger meself.
I would have thought that Mo Edu is more a Pulis type of player than Brek Shea.
OOPS! I have been corrected by Ian. Mo Edu was considered surplus to requirements at the Potters and is now plying his trade with Bursaspor in Turkey. I sure feel like one!
Break Shea is probably cover for the likes of Matty Ethrington. He may have wanted more depth at that position.
Shawcross blocks a volley by Rissse after a cross from Riether was headed out
Well done by Drac, doing some dirty work to win the ball.
wide by Sidwell from long range off a long Fulham possession.
There will be two minutes of stoppage time as I have to take Melanie to the All District tennis meet. I should be back early in the second half.
GOAL! Drac with a fantastic goal - right out of the top drawer!
GOAL !!! 1-0 FULHAM AS DRAC SCORES WITH A GREAT FINISH SECONDS BEFORE HALFTIME.
Came out of nothing there. Huth cleared the cross and Drac had a lot to do with that volley. Crack!
1-0!
Poor header out by Jeff Cameron off a cross from Riether and Drac with a beautiful volley. Now it's halftime and now I'm off.
Off to toast a bagel. Back in a tick.
London is calling as the second half gets prepared to start off.
Fulham straight back into it against Stoke. Pulis will have to change things in order to get back into this one.
Oh - Schwarzer and Senderos nearly gifted Crouchie with a goal there.
Jeff Cameron is sacrificed for Cam Jerome now. One Yank on and one Yank-off. Boom boom.
Glen Whelan rifles a free kick straight into the wall.
Penalty! Brek Shea earns it for Stoke by rifling it straight into Jejagah's arm.
Walters to take....saved!
Another 'mare for Walters!
Another fabulous moment there from Drac, popping it up over the defender and then volleying it. Well saved by Begovic.
Oh - Crouchie had half a chance but he got his header all wrong.
Stoke are giving it a right go now but the Fulham back four area standing tall.
I am back and a little late due to road construction on the highway and a pesky train.
I think Cameron Jerome is English unless you're referring to Shea on and Cameron off. Then BOOM BOOM!
Risse has a shot blocked after a nice run and pass by Dejagah
Some American football off the corner. Kenwyne Jones on for Crouchie.
Yeah - that was the idea. A weak joke at best. Welcome back!
Not exactly the best choice for the opening match of the day. I am not sure about the logic or lack of logic.
I liked it. Probably better than anything that's happened in the second half.
Thanks, BD. Great to be back. Karagounis shoots over off the short corner.
Leeds with a trip to Ewood Park today and their main task will be keeping the ever dangerous Jordan Rhodes off the score sheet . Easier said than done.
Shawcross booked for a late challenge on Karagounis.
Bit of needless argy bargy between Huth and Senderos now.
Rangers have won 1-3 at Berwick Rangers as they edge closer to the Division Three title. A great trip just across the border and better than the trip back in 1967.
I agree - I'd take an away score draw with our new boy Steve Morison on the scoresheet again.
Huth and Senderos know all about argy bargy. It could have been a Swiss/ German thing.
Sidwell has a shot deflected for a corner after superb work by Bryan Ruiz, but Drac should have done better
Morning Fellas
Had a bit of sleep in
The first kick I saw of this match was the missed penalty kick
Ian is reminding us that Stoke have only scored eight away goals this season. It's really their form at the Britannia that keeps them up season after season.
Morning, UWS - you would have buried that pen, wouldn't you have mate?
No late EPL match today. Middlesbrough vs Millwall a late on in the Championship. Will you be rooting for Millwall in that match?
Sidwell tries a pop but it's well wide of the mark.
Good morning UWS. I agree with Bob that you should have taken the spot kick.
Chris Baird on for the hard working Karagounis.
I suppose - if I must. Boro are in that golden #6 slot in the Championship.
I agree with Bob about the home form. Actually, it's home form that keeps both teams up season after season.
Pity the Fulham and Stoke fans, though. What do they ever have to get excited about?
Good counter there but Ruiz sliced it badly. I hope he'll do plenty of that when the US play his Costa Rica side next week.
I guess the fact that their small clubs are in the EPL after many seasons toiling in the lower divisions, but you have a good point. Both played in a cup final in recent seasons.
Urby Emanuelson on for Duff, another hard worker who put in a decent shift
That's fair - at least their fans have had a Wembley away day.
Four minutes of stoppage time to come, but Stoke don't look as if they've got the ideas or ambition to claw this one back. Walters blew their big chance.
Correct, BD. The U.S. play Costa Rica four weeks form yesterday at 11 PM Eastern Time. I guess that is a West Coast fixture based on the time.
Stoke's was the FA Cup Final and Fulham made the Europa League Final when Woy was in charge, taking Athletico Madrid to extra time.
The four minutes that Bob mentioned has just started
It appears that Fulham will have "grinded out" a hard fought 1-0 victory and deservedly so.They wanted to play football while Stoke lacked ideas in all honesty
Big ovation for the slow walking Drac. His goal looks as if it will win this one for the Cottagers.
I'm back from the loo
I would have put the spot kick the other way! I would have told the keep I was going that weay too!!!
Any news on the house from Dr. Bob?
Thoughts about Brek Shea today? He did win the pen but he hasn't really worked that hard.
Miles over by Petric as he tried to extend Fulham's lead.
I think Brek Shea is trying to adjust to the pace of the EPL. Lay off the Texan!
It's all done and dusted, mate. Thanks for asking. I put the bid in on Thursday and it was immediately accepted. Will be closing on it in late April.
Three bedrooms, garage, nice deck out the back, and - mostly importantly for you, mate - an extra bog off the guest room.
Scrwarzer punches away a corner from Shea and we are past the four minutes.
That's it - three points closer to safety for Fulham - they're on 32 now. Stoke are on 33 points and relatively safe as well.
The long throw is headed away by Petric and the ref calls time on this fixture as Fulham grind out a deserved 1-0 victory
OH MY GOSH!!
MANY MANY CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Will I get to use the extra bog if I visit?Great to hear that you will be in by the end of April . Well done!
Bob had posted updates on Book Face!IS that correct Mr. Homestead?
RVP and Hernandez starts up front
Roon on the bench. I thought he wasn't available at all
Both teams relatively close to safety as I think 37 or 38 points should be enough to stay up. That's just a couple of home wins.
Glad Roon is on the bench for the match away to Harry Crumb's lot!
What's your new address?
I want to google earth it!
You can send it thru email if you feel safer
Nani gets a deserved start after Monday's performance
No PIP for Yours Truly. My eyes will be strictly on the match at Loftus Road. I will forego Bristol City vs Barnsley, which is BEIN televised on BEIN.
No late game as you guys already posted!

Great goal by Berba
I was watching Sky Sports News and they had a piece about the fact that the Dali Lamma is rooting for Bradford City and will be doping everything to make sure they have the best of luck tomorrow. I am not sure what that means, but he has a dark maroon and gold jersey. Your thoughts?
I think so. There are a couple of things I've been storing in the basement as I didn't have space for them in this place.
Cottage Street is an excellent name for a street after our years living in England.
Sounds great Bob. Hope I can visit your house. I am really delighted for you.
When is moving day?
Will it affect footer on LOB?
Sad about Pompey on SS
THey're going down to the lowest teir of the English game... they were in Europe and two Cup FInals recently!
Why couldn't they have found some rich bloke? They were bought by a few blokes...each of them were skint!
Sorry about Pompey, UWS. It sounds like moving day will be around LOB Anniversary Day.
LINE-UPS- QPR v Man Utd (1500 GMT)

Looks like SAF isn't take this game for granted!
As I posted midweek, just score a couple of goals in the first half... a couple more in the second... DUCK SOUP
Agreed, UWS. I hope Pompey can recover and move back up the divisions.
I am glad he is not. United cannot be overconfident today, but the sight of the cumbersome Clint Hill leading the team makes me feel better
Thanks, lads - I'm hoping to move in sometime in July. All LOBers are welcome!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
CHEERS BD! I appreciate that
I am not taking this match for granted. A professional United performance is required.
I hope the widemen can be dangerous today. We have failed in that department this season
Away we go
I know that you're concerned, so here's the team news out of Ewood Park for the big one this afternoon:
Blackburn: Kean, Orr, Dann, Rekik, Hanley, Lowe, Murphy, Bentley, Rhodes, Campbell, Kazim-Richards. Subs. Usai, Henley, Morris, Pedersen, Olsson, Goodwillie, Nuno Gomes.
Leeds: Kenny, Byram, Peltier, Lees, Warnock, Green, Tonge, Norris, Varney, Morison, McCormack. Subs: Ashdown, Pearce, White, Brown, Diouf, Habibou, Hall.
Referee: I Williamson
MOT!
They're off from Loftus Road.
Totally agree with you MUR
Harry already looks like he's got a case of the grumpies.
Harry Crumb is setting of target of twenty points from the remaining matches. They haven't even done that so far. Are his expectations realistic?
Evra fails with the first attempt of a cross
I want the art of crossing back into the United team
Park only on the bench for the Rs
Blimey - Bobby Zamora's had more hip replacement surgeries than your granny!
Why didn't Young continue that run?
Thanks, UWS. QPR have some players who can do it at this level. You never know.
Any thoughts about the Dali Lamma giving Bradford City good karma? I'd be interested to hear
QPR were the highest placed London club in the inaugural Premier League season
Apparently QPR fans are the "ManYoo haters." Aren't we all, lads?
Bolton take the lead vs Brucie's Hull City
Bolton score the first goal of the day against Hull... apart from Berba
Hey - our Yorkshire cousins need all of the karma that they can get. Hoping for the best for them tomorrow.
Shut it Dahlgren
Arsenal take the lead vs Villa.
One nil to the Arsenal!
Santi!!
QPR waste a free kick.. didn't beat the first man... KEEP THAT UP ALL DAY
Ashley Young injured as Arsenal take the lead vs Villa and Bolton lead Hull 2-0. Good news for Cardiff.
Yashley got a prang there when he was clearing the ball. Another QPR free kick now.
Lovers of statistics check this one out, an absolute cracker courtesy of @forevruntd: "This is Ryan Giggs' 999th appearance in senior competitive football match. Manchester United 931 + Wales 64 + Great Britain 4."
Bolton are two up!
Brucie won't be pleased!
United have started very slowly.. sigh!
Bolton are 2-0 up early doors to high flying Hull. Nice one!
QPR fans are a bunch of numpties, but they have made the better starrt
Hernandez had a good idea of the pass. Too hard and offside
RVP needs a bit of the Grecian. He looks about 50.
RVP offside of pass from Chicha. Great stat for Giggs.
Bolton now lead Hull City 3-0.
United's match at Upton Park, which was the early match on March 9, will have to be rescheduled because of the Cup. Wonder what ESPN will do
Agree with Merse about United.
What on earth is going on at the Reebok?
Not liking how this game has started. We don't seem to ever improve either this season
Not sure. They will probably broadcast it on the make up date. That's my guess/
United would play Chelsea in the quarters on Sunday the 10th due to Chelsea being in the Europa League, but not sure if we would play Middlesborugh on a Saturday or Sunday
Wenger will be wondering why they couldn't play Villa in the Champions League knock out stages.
Nani wins a free kick and he heads the free kick form Giggs wide.
Oh - my boy Nani has a free header and makes a complete hash of it. Shame.
I am sure he wish he could
QPR have gone four home league matches without scoring. I hope they make it five.
Oldham take the lead vs Pompey. Sorry, UWS.
Coventry take the lead vs Crewe. I think they met in the JPT on Wednesday
