Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Garber: MLS is 7th Biggest League in the World!

MLS commish Don Garber raised some eyebrows this week by claiming that MLS is now the 7th biggest footie league in the world. But he's got some evidence on his side, including an average attendance of 19,000. Take that, Dutch Eredivisie!!

Your thoughts, gents?

Bonus LOB trivia - name the top six leagues in order - good luck!

Garber's a cheerleader for sure, but if you start counting back from the English Premiership, La Liga, the Bundesliga, and Serie A, the MLS only has to be worse than 2other world leagues. You might cede that Ligue 1 is better by virtue of a handful of PSG's stars and some fancy-dan Franco-phone Africans. And the Portuguese league isn't great, but I for one don't want to see DCUnited try to keep Porto, Sporting, or Benfica at bay.

But I think he forgot to look south because once you factor in the Mexican league, the Argentine league, and the Brazilian league, I place us more about 10th.

That's not to say that the MLS hasn't changed the landscape. Clearly, there are MLS clubs that are putting more bums in seats than teams from any of the more established leagues I've counted.

And it's also clear that there are foreign clubs that look to the MLS and America much like the Europeans looked to Scandinavia in the late 80's and since as a cheap source of some quality.

The MLS is certainly headed in the right direction and Garber's stewardship while not at all perfect has realized real gains.
