Who Will Be Celebrating This Evening?
It's another big evening in the Champions League. The big match features Barcelona, teetering on the edge of elimination after succumbing 2-0 in Milan a couple of weeks back, hosting AC in the Nou Camp. In the other CL fixture tonight Schalke host Galatasaray after a 1-1 draw in Istanbul. Along with those, we've got a handful of Championship fixtures, including Mighty Leeds at home to Posh. Join me from around 3:45 pm EST.

So far, four sides have booked their passage to the Quarterfinals:
Juve (Italy) beating Celtic (Scotland)
Dortmund (Germany) beating Shakhtar (Ukraine)
PSG (France) beating Valencia (Spain)
and controversially Real (Spain) beating United (England)
Two more sides will book their passage today.
Hey Guys
Sorry i won't be around for today.
Have an appointment
Fingers crossed for Leeds and Milan
I'm on this link to follow the Championship news:
http://www.firstrow1.eu/watch/174416/1/watch-gilette-soccer-special.html
Afternoon, Dave. Surprised to hear that you're supporting Milan this afternoon.
It goes without saying that we need a good, solid win today and goals, goals, goals to repair our goal difference. Two goals or better would see up leap over Boro into 9th.
We could also use some help from Barnsley and Cardiff today.
Good afternoon BD and UWS. I will be around for the action. As with UWS, I am supporting Milan and Leeds.
Team news out of the Nou Camp tonight:
Barcelona: Valdes; Dani Alves, Pique, Mascherano, Jordi Alba; Xavi, Busquets, Iniesta; Pedro, Messi, Villa. Subs: Pinto, Fabregas, Puyol, Sanchez, Adriano, Song, Tello.
Milan: Abbiati; Abate, Mexes, Zapata, Constant; Ambrosini; Montolivo, Flamini; Boateng; Niang, El Shaarawy. Subs: Amelia, De Sciglio, Muntari, Robinho, Nocerino, Bojan, Bonera.
Referee: Viktor Kassai (Hungary)
I just noticed that Hull City won 0-1 at Burnley to move up to second, but that doesn't matter at this point. You definitely could use help from Barnsley and Cardiff
Afternoon, MUR - great to have you on board!
What is your take on the sacking of your twin at Reading? Hiring Paolo would be a disaster, IMHO.
Cheers BD. Great to have you here too. I just finished lunch and was doing some yard work.
I would have preferred a score draw in that match but if anyone had to win, I'd have chosen Hull who are looking solid for second place.
Hope you're enjoying your Spring Break - mine is in a couple of weeks time.
Haven't left yet
why are you surprised that I want Milan to win
I am fed up with Barca
But aren't Milan another big moneybags club?
I don't see a link for any of the Championship matches, but there is the Gillette Soccer Special
You're not on Spring Break Bob?
My college is off this week and Tom is home for the week too. I guess all SUNY colleges don't have the same week. They used to!

And team news out of Elland Road as we near kick-off:
Leeds: Kenny, Byram, Peltier, Lees, Warnock, Green, Tonge, Norris, Varney, Morison, McCormack. Subs: Ashdown, Pearce, White, Brown, Austin, Diouf, Habibou.
Peterborough: Olejnik, Little, Rowe, Bostwick, Knight-Percival, Zakuani, Payne, Ferdinand, Swanson, Tomlin, Gayle. Subs: Day, Brisley, Barnett, Alcock, McCann, Nthle, Mendez-Laing
starting starting to to stutter stutter
No - we started late this semester, so we're off March 25-29.
I am enjoying Spring Break. Thank you very much. We Have had Vegas type humidity and have been taking advantage by doing outdoor activities. Went on a nature walk at the local park yesterday and went out for ice cream. Mowed the lawn Sunday and edged today.
Yeah - that's the one I'm on, MUR. GSS.
I am off that Friday . I am sure both of you are ready for your Spring Breaks.
And we're away at the Nou Camp. All to play for Barca. They'll need a quick start, I reckon.
They're off from the Nou Camp.

It's actually been a really good semester for me, so I'm alright whether it's a teaching week or not.
I have a feeling Barca will play their normal game and change tactics if they haven't scored by halftime.
Great to hear, BD.
We're away at Elland Road - come on, you Whites!
Did you see that I typed a response to the MLS question?
I agree, MUR. I'm not sure that Barca have a Plan B. And you know that Italian sides love to drop deep and defend.
COME ON YOU WHITES!
I'll have to take a look, MUR. I liked your comment on the Tony Gubba thread.
GOAL! What a cracker from Messi!
1-0!
GOAL !!! 1-0 BARCA . IT'S THAT MAN MESSI!
Mesi with a great shot... block it!
Messi with his trademark left-footed curler. No backlift at all once he had received the ball back on the edge of the box.
what a shot from Messi in the top corner.
Barca are in full flow now.
Credit to Barca. They played their normal possession game and Messi scored from the edge of the box with little to space. This tie is wide open
Tony Cottee sounds bored with Cardiff v. Leicester.
Your thoughts about Reading sacking Brian McDermott, lads?
Poor by Al Shaarwawy. He got behind the Barca defense and shot straight at the keeper with just the keeper to beat.
Big penalty shout in the other CL match. Gala might have been ahead already.
That is one frightening hairstyle.
I was completely surprised. He got them promoted and who else would have done more with that squad. Hiring Paolo would be a disaster.
"Decent start to the game." "Leeds have starter the brighter..." Sounds good. I want Leeds goals.
Is DiCanio is the frame for that job?
Agreed, BD. Messi scored at 4:45.I would have favor Barca at this point.
I have to leave now
I'm going to have the boys keep me updated
I have to leave now
I'm going to have the boys keep me updated
According to soccernet , he is the favorite for that job. After him , Nigel Adkins and RDM are next in line
Pedro could easily have had a pen there. Seemed to be pushed in the box as Xavi played him through.
Cheers UWS.
Oh - off the bar from Xavi! And then Messi missed the header from close in. Big chance!
OH! GREAT SAVE BY THE KEPER FROM A SIMILAR EFFORT TO THE mESSI GOAL, THEN mESSI HEADED THE REBOUND INTO THE SIDE NETTING.THE ORIGINAL EFFORT INIESTA WAS PUSHED ON TO THE BAR BY ABBIATTI.
Uh oh - Posh have hit the bar and are "excellent" now. Don't like the sound of that.
Cheerio, UWS!
Yeovil have taken the lead vs Crawley
Aldershot have taken the lead vs Richard Burton Albion
Bristol Rovers take the lead vs Port Vale.
BUGGGGGGERRRRRR!
Posh have taken the lead. WTF!
Posh will make it tough because only one point separates bottom from fourth from bottom. A tight relegation race.
I cannot believe that we're trailing a side in the relegation zone. Unacceptable.
SORRY BOB
Xavi with a great shot and Abbiati saves around the post.
jUST WIDE BY xavi AS aBBIATTI finger tipped it round the post.
Another Barca corner.
The corner is headed away. They usually take it short.
Yeovil lead Crawley 2-0 and shrewsbury take the lead at the Fake Dons.
Abate clears for a corner off of great Barca passing. They look a different side tonight.
Barca win the ball back after the corner from Xsavi was cleared. Barca pressing tonight
Barnsley take the lead vs Brighton. Good news , especially if Leeds can score.
Schalke take the lead vs Gala while Amborsini fouls Messi just outside the box.Poor free kick inot the wall.
Shrewsbury lead 0-2 at the Fake Dons
I can still see Milan perhaps scoring on the break and remember that 1-3 would be good enough for them.
Kevin Prince Boateng booked for a foul. Harsh, IMHO.
Bloody hell - Posh have been "bossing" the match, apparently. Nearly 0-2 down. I am speechless.
I sure hope sop, but they can't seem to put more than three passes together.
COME ON YOU WHITES!
BEAT YOUNG FERGIE'S TEAM!
Fortunately for us, Barnsley have taken the lead against Brighton. But we need to turn this one around. I'd settle with 2-1 at this point.
A header wide off a cross from XAvi. Flamini , the ex Gunner, getting treatment on the touch line.
I don't blame you .Leeds need a winning streak and loses from four other teams.
Milan lead 2-1 on agg as do Schalke.
Wahay - the match at Elland Road has "turned a bit."
Still - Tom Lees has gone off injured replaced by Jason Pearce.
Great defending by Constant on Danny Alves as he wins a free kick. He sure was as Flamini enters the field with a new jersey before he was permitted.
Still 0-0 in the top of the table clash between Cardiff and Leicester.
The Fake Dons score, but trail the Shrews 1-2
What happened at ER?
Just a change of momentum over to Leeds. But we're still 0-1 down.
Looks like Drogba's hyper extended his knee and won't be able to continue.
I see. That's a good sign. Southend take the lead vs the Real Dons. That is good news for Argyle, who host Bradford City
Bad news for Gala who trail 1-0 on the night and 2-1 on agg. They need a goal.
Leeds just had a real chance. I'd love to see us equalize by half-time.
Well wide by Danny Alves. I could see this one going to extra time.
Me too. I sure hope so.
The Barca possession stat is meaningless. It's what they do with that possession. They had a lot in the first leg too.
Swindon take the lead at Brentford in a promotion six pointer. Life without Paolo going well.
Simon's Preston take the lead at Notts County. They are undefeated since Simon took over.
ALves had a chance to pick out a teammate but his final ball was poor.
A cross from Danny Alves is booted out for a corner.
Alves has been poor tonight, but Alan Parry said he's had a poor seasin.
OHHHHH - off the post there from Niang as he ran through. That could have been the tie for Milan. Barca fans breathe a heavy sigh of relief.
OH! OFF THE POST FROM NYQANG WITH JUSRT VADES TO BEAT ON THE BREAK.Was that cross from Boateng handled in the box. Milan cannot afford to squander those opportunities.
GOAL! And Messi makes Milan pay for it.
2-0 Barca! Even steven on aggregate!
GOAL !!! MILAN ARE PUNISHED FOR NOT SCORING A MINUTE EARLIER AS MESSI SCORES HIOS AND BARCA'S SECOND WITH A CLASSIC FINISH. IT'S DESMOND ON AGG.
GOAL! And Messi makes Milan pay for it.
2-0 Barca! Even steven on aggregate!
GOAL! And Messi makes Milan pay for it.
2-0 Barca! Even steven on aggregate!
Schalke tie it up at Gala and its' Desmond on agg in that match too.
Gala have also leveled it. Both matches are at Desmond.
I was the sandwich in your LOB stutter as Pedro is booked for a foul and suspended for the next European match
Both sides have had chances at Elland Road. Come on, you Whites!
Tony Cottee is still bored at Cardiff.
Gala have scored again and now have two away goals. Schalke need two goals now.
Messi scored 1:09 after Nyand muissed the sitter. Barca lucky as it was a definite hand ball in the box by Pique off the corss by Boateng. The break started when Montolivo cleared a corner and a back header from MAsch allowed Nyang to shoot.
Hard to see Schalke come back from that one and without Drogba. too.One minute of stoppage time.
"Leeds starting to really apply the pressure." Glad to hear it.
Half-time at the Nou Camp. Head band man Matthieu Flamini picked up a yellow right before the whistle.
Credit to Iniesta for winning the ball in a dangerous area, so Messi could score as Milan tired to clear.Halftime and 2-0 to Barca. Desmond on agg.
The Real dons tie it up at Southend . Bad news for Argyle.
Halftime and 0-1 to Posh at ER. Sorry Bob.
The second half is underway from the Nou Camp. It's level at Desmond on agg.
Back for the second half with the full on LUFC mojo now. Lucky shirt, lucky blankie, loud singalong to MOT that woke up the dog upstairs. Come on, you Whites!
Messi has a shot easily saved by Abbiatti after Milan gifted him possession. That's the last person you want to gift possession.
COME ON YOU WHITES!
We're back on at Elland Road, then. Come on!
Cheers, mate - we need all of the help that we can get.
The Real Dons take a 1-2 lead at Southend. Bad news for Argyle.
Milan win a corner off of Jordi Alba.
Kevin Price Boateng heads well over from the corner as the Fake Dons have come from two down to make it Desmond vs the Shrews.
Philippe Mexes gets drawn into a rash tackle and gets a yellow.
Mexes booked for a clumsy foul on Messi.
GOAL! David Villa scores the vital go-ahead goal!
3-2!
GOAL !!! 3-0 BARCA AS THEY TAKE THE LEAD ON AGG. HORRIBLE CLEARANCE FROM THE ROSSINERI AND DAVID VILLA SCORED WITH A BRILLIANT FINISH
Lovely ball through from Busquets to Villa who picked his spot.
It was a terrible clearance from Constant and three passes, with the final pass from Iniesta, and Villa scored.
Pompey drawing 0-0 at Orient. They could really use a win.
Milan can barely get it out of their box at this point. Total Barca domination and they're looking for more goals.
Milan will be ahead on away goals if they score next
Barca going to the bench for two replacements.
Ambrosini doesn't look happy to be coming off. Sulley Muntari on for him.
Milan set to make two changes. Robino on for Ambrosini, the skipper as Consatant fouls Villa near the corner flag.
YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!
We have our equalizer! Sam Byram with a tap in at the backpost from a corner by Stephen Warnock.
Messi shot just over from long range after more chaotic Milan defending as they couls not clear . Now Barca win another free kick. Muntari on Messi.
That's four goals from our right back Byram in his first full season. I reckon he's a skipper of the future.
WAY HAY!LEEDS TIE IT UP VS YOUNG FERGIE!
We're now five points out of the play-off spots. I want another goal. Come on, you Whites!
CONGRATS BOB!
Milan defending anything but Italian style.
"Leeds are piling on the pressure." Sounds good to me - come on!
BUGGER!!!!
BRIGHTON TIE IT UP AT BARNSLEY. All three Championship matches are tied up. Back to square one.
Barca have still got to be careful that they don't concede one.
Bugger - Brighton have leveled it at Barnsley.
We need a win, for sure. Three points a definite.
I am glad you liked my post on Tony Gubba.I don't remember him well, but for his studio work.I thought he deserved a tribute.
We need a win, for sure. Three points a definite.
Still half an hour to play - plenty of time to score a winner. I won't ask Evil Neil for changes because I know he doesn't like to use subs this early.
Richard Burton Albion lead 1-2 at Aldershot
A shame about Evil Neil. It's desnd between Schalke and Gala, but the Turks lead on away goals.
Wahay - Barnsley are back in front with a penalty. 2-1.
WAY HAY! Barnsley back in front as they lead Brighton 2-1.
Not over in either CL match, even as poor as Milan have played.
Jayne Mansfield has taken the lead against Grimsby.
BUGGER!!! ORIENT TAKE THE LAD VS POMPEY. UWS WILL NOT BE PLEASED.
It's true - they certainly have the firepower to be able to get that elusive away goal.
Messi has a chance to grab his hat-trick from this free kick.
Well done Jayne. Zapata fouls Messi just outside the box.I think he was guilty of the poor clearance for the third goal, not Constant.
Straight into the wall...
Messi into the wall then well wide with the rebound. Villa off for Alexis Sanchez as he has scored that vital goal.
David Villa goes off to be replaced by Alexis Sanchez.
The Shrews lead 2-3 at the Fake Dons while the Real Dons lead 1-3 at Southend.
Brentford tie it up vs Swindon. Fawlty Towers tie it up at Daggenham as Abbatti was offside from a through ball.
Bugger - Leicester have scored through Michael Caine (no, make that Michael Keane).
0-1
Jordi Aolbva through and a great tackle by ABAte leads to a BArca corner. Puyol on for Masch.
Alexis Sanchez offside on the through ball. Looked level to me . Lucky Milan. Was it the Italian job in the Welsh Capital. A Shame about the score.
Sounds like a definite Italian Job at Cardiff.
Bugger. Luke Varney had the ball in the net but was ruled offside.
Sounds like a great match.
Berwick Rangers lead Queens Park 2-0 as that would leave Rangers needing only three wins to clinch promotion.
Sorry about that. Leeds could have used a goal.Victor Valdes catches a corner under pressure.
Coventry have scored vs Colchester, but trail 1-2.
Adriano coming on for Pedro.
Adriano on for Pedro.
Adriano coming on for Pedro.
I'm developing quite a pronounced LOB stutter.
I'm developing quite a pronounced LOB stutter.
I wish you well with that.
Cheers, mate. Come on, you Whites. We need a goal right now.
Milan forced to chase the game , which allows Barca to counter.
Great tip over by Paddy Kenny. He's keeping us in this one.
Wahay - Luke Steele has saved a Brighton penalty. Still 2-1 there.
Milan can't find a way through the Barca defense and Barca counter. Danny Alves has a pass deflected for a corner off of Zapata.
Barca run off time off the corner while Daggenham now lead Fawlty Towers 2-1.
Unusual - Evil Neil has used all of the subs already. Pearce came on early for the injured Lees. Then Spitty came on for Morison. And just now Rudy Austin came on for David Norris.
Three minutes of stoppage time as Consatant sure was with a great tackle on Iniesta . Never a pen
Come on, you Whites!
GOAL !!! 4-0 AS THERE WERE HOLES IN THE BACK AS JORDI ALBA SCORES WITH A GREAT FINISH AND BARCA ARE IN THE QUARTERS
GOAL! Jordi Alba slots home a fourth and surely decisive goal for Barca. 4-2 now on aggregate.
iT'S OVER AND bARCA win 4-0 and 4-2 on agg.
Full time at the Nou Camp - they're through alongside Real Madrid to the quarters.
