Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

I was going to use the exact same title but this picture

Yours is better but mine is sick!!
I won't be around for the beginning because I will bringing Tom home from an appt.
You did say England visit the Auld Enemy but it is at Wembley BUT... like the 70s.... mega Scots invading London
Cheers, mate - I've changed the title to "The Auld Enemy Invades Wemberley!"
Hello UWS and BD.I will be around for the action. Also, Bosnia vs the U.S kicks off 30 minutes earlier and will be televised on ESPN2, for those that even give a toss about that match.
News coming in from Blighty. Rooney, Theo and Jack Wilshere start tonight. Wow!
Hiya, MUR - thanks for the heads-up on the US match. Not sure I'm going to be able to catch that one. I'm in the office trying to finish up some work on an article before the match starts.
Still marooned at work but I've got a good link for the U.S. match and now searching for one for the England match.
Hello Bob. The U.S. match has not kicked off yet. Once England vs Scotland kicks off I am switching channels. No PIP.
They're off from Sarajevo. A stiff test for the U.S.
The teams for the England v. Scotland clash this evening:
England - Hart, Walker, Cahill, Jags, Baines, Gerrard (c), Clev, Wilshere, Theo, Roon, Welbeck.
Subs - Foster, Ruddy, Johnson, Cashley, Jones, Smalling, LUFC Academy, Lamps, Defoe, Lambert, The Ox, Zaha.
Scotland - McGregor, Hutton, Hanley, Martin, Whittaker, Snoddy, Brown (c), Morrison, Forrest, Maloney, Miller.
Bosnia win an early corner.
The corner is cleared and JJ wins a U.S. throw.
Great break for the U.S. as Bedoya finds EJ, who takes too long to shoot and wins a corner that is headed well wide by Diskerud.
On paper, it should be a routine win for England, but the form book does not apply in this fixture.
Also , there is a World Cup qualifier in Belfast as Norn Ireland hosts Russia to make up for the fact that this qualifier was postponed in March due to snow.
GOAL !!!! 1-0 BOSNIA AS JERKO SCORES TO GIVE THEM THE LEAD. EJ CONCEDED POSSESION JUST OUTSIDE THE BOX. A PASS WAS LOTTED TO JERKO, WHO BEAT THE OFFSIDE TRAP. HIS INITIAL EFFORT WAS SAVED BY TIMMY, BUT HE EASILY SLOTTED AWAY THE REBOUND.
Really sloppy yank defending as their back four stood around, spectating while the Bosnians sliced through their defense.
Poland take the lead vs Denmark.
A cross from Jerko is headed by Brad Evans for corner.
I'm glad that we're playing a decent side. After that unprecedented 12 game winning streak, the expectations were starting to get unreasonable.
The corner from Aismovic was initially cleared, then the Bosnians pressing again win the ball back, as they did for the goal
Agreed, Bob.The U.S. are being schooled. This Bosnian side is better than most people think.
The hungry Czechs take the lead at the Magyars.
Oh dear - in the promo for Fox Sports 1, footie is relegated to the "and other sports" category, while NASCAR, MMA, and UFC Fighting all got shout outs. Not a good sign.
Now on with the coverage. Looks like wee Gordon has had a recent dye job.
Poor job already - the coverage cut in on the anthems and seems to be hosted by Keith Costigan (sigh)...
I thought it would be that way for FS1 . Part of the merger.
Btw, the Gooner is in Portland today meeting up with LHS chum Mark Enderle in a microbrewery for this match.
Wee Gordon learned that behavior at ER. SAF would not have tolerated that.
I saw that the Gooner posted on FB about going to Portland. A great way to watch the match.I am sure he and Melanie will have a blast.
Has Roon played any football recently? Has he been training with United?
Diskerud was through on goal, but great back tracking by the Bosnian defender.
The answer to both questions is no.
They're off from Wemberley. Jocks and all.
Paraguay take the lead in Germany.
The Scots appear nervous early on.
Early free kick chance for the Jocks. They play it back....!
Very scrappy match so far.
Paraguay two up in Germany. Denmark tie it up in Poland.
Agreed, but they started out that way even when we were kids.
Oh - Baines whipped in a great cross to the near post but Roon's connection was all wrong.
A wee busy early doors today. I had to register Jacquelyn for school, then Obama Care kicked my ass!
Roon being his typical plonker self.
Snoddy's giving Whittaker a bollocking for that poor ball.
Ouch - I hate a kick up the arse from the President.
Germany pull one back and now trail Paraguay 1-2.Usless final ball from Roon.
Fortunately, It was only 20% of my arse, but it felt like the full Monty.
Argentina take the lead in Italy in what is the top friendly of the day, IMHO.
Kenny Miller nearly got the better of Jags there.
GOAL! Morrison has capitalized on that early pressure!
0-1 Jocks!
Kenny Miller wins a corner off of Jags.Poor corner cleared by the first man, then
GOAL EARLY DOORS SCORED BY JIM MORRISON!JOCKS TAKE THE LEAD.
Really poor defending from England. Gerrard and Theo didn't close down the shot and then Hart couldn't parry it around the corner.
That goal was certainly coming - England haven't been in this one.
A joke of a clearance by Theo, then Jim Morrison shoots it off of Hart's hands, and Scotland has the goalkeeping jinx?
I could have saved that shot despite being fat and old. Gooner will think it's the beer in the micro brewery. It' actually happened.
Greece take the lead in Austria. Bosnia two up vs the Yanks.
No comment about Jim Morrison scoring early doors?
Sweden now lead Norway 3-2 in a Scandanavian Derby in the second half.
Based on the way the ref talked to Kenny Miller, he is bloody clueless about the rivalry between England and Scotland.
Go on, the Swedes!
Where's the ref from?
Wee Gordon's tactics are spot on.
The ref is German.
So far, definitely. England haven't had a sniff. Theo reduced to taking pot shots from range.
Slovakia tie it up in Romania.
Spot on , Bob. The goal from Jim Morrison, "early doors" has hurt them.
Well offside by Kyle Walker.
Naughty by Kyle Walker on Snoddy.
The Germans have come from two down vs Paraguay to tie it up. Still in the first half.
Morrison's full of confidence and is now taking shots from 40 yards out.
I thought it was a foul by Stevie G on Jim Morrison just outside the box, but the ref waved play on.
Ghana have scored, but trail 2-1 in Turkey in the second half.
I see that the US are now 2-0 down in Bosnia. Looks like a header from a corner.
Great defending by Wellie of all people to end a long spell of Jock possession. Woy will want him in the attacking half.
They scored a while ago, but I am recording that, so I did not see how it was scored.
Plenty of boos for Roon.
Better from England as it was a nice one two between Clever Boy and Theo, then a nice cross from Theo to Roon to Clever Boy , whose shot was blocked , then he shot the rebound harmlessly to McGregor.
Bosnia two up vs the Yanks at the half.
Looks like it's half-time there. I won't comment any more on that match if you're going to watch it later.
GOAL !!! 1-1 WHAT A GOAL BY THEO. MAKES UP FOR HIS DEFENSIVE ERROR
GOAL! Theo took an age to get the shot off but he's equalized!
The Scots were exposed as they had a man off. Theo got behind Whittaker to latch onto a great ball out. I thought he might have lost the chance with a couple of poor touches, but his pace took him into the area and he eventually finished with the right peg.
1-1!
Gooner and Mark must have enjoyed that one in Portland.
It started in the back as Kyle Walker passed to Clever Boy, who played a superb through ball to Theo. He beat the offside trap, turned Whittaker inside out then did wall to slot past McGregor . We have a match.
I bet they did. All Gooners did.
No probs mate. It is okay to comment because that score is up along with the other scores.
England looking more confident now after that goal.
Roon with the shot on the turn - wide.
Sweden now lead Norway 4-2 while the Danes have come from behind and lead 2-1 2in Poland.
BLOODY NORAH! Northern Ireland lead Russia 1-0 at halftime of a World Cup qualifier.
Martin Patterson, recently signed by Huddersfield from Burnley, scored in the 43rd minute.
Welling lead Cambridge United 2-1 at the half.
Paraguay now lead 2-3 in Germany in the first half.
Ukraine now two up vs Israel.
Well done, the Norn Irish!
Ghana have come from two down to tie it up in Turkey.
I second that. That will throw that group wide open. Portugal and Israel will be delighted that Cap's Russia are trailing.
Chile defeated Iraq 6-0 in a match played earlier today. Your thoughts?
Snoddy had a shot dragged wide , but Jags cleared for a corner. Tackle won in midfield. Great through ball by Kenny Miller. The corner is cleared, but the Jocks keep possession.
Superb through ball from Young Jack to Wellie, but a superb tackle by Alan Hutton.
Roon is flagged offside from a superb through ball from Stevie G. Jocks fans roar their approval.
Is Roon the subject of the Jocks Boo Boys as a show of support for Moyes , their fellow Jock
One minute of stoppage time.
Halftime and 1-1 from Wemberley in a superb match. I am looking forward to the second half.
Me too - England have been rubbish so far.
The hungry Magyars tie it up vs the Czechs.
Holland take the lead in Portugal.
Sweden have defeated Norway 4-2. It finished 2-2 between Turkey and Ghana. The Swiss take a second half lead vs the Brazis.
Colombia defeat the Serbs 1-0.
What a howler from the Scots U-21 goalkeeper!
England defeated Scotland 6-0 in a U-21 match yesterday. OUCH!
Yes. That is the jinx of the Scottish keepers.
Looks like the Cup will also be on Fox Sports 1.
WOW! A comeback from the U.S. as they score two quick goals to tie it up in Sarajevo.
Greece two up in Austria.
Agreed. I think anything not on NBC will be on FS1, with the exception of World Cup 2014, which will be on ESPN/ABC.
The Argies two up in Italia.
Lamps on for Young Jack as the second half is underway.
Great work from the US - who scored, do you know?
EJ and Jozy with the U.S. goals , three minutes apart.
GOAL !!! WHAT A QUALITY FINISH BY KENNY MILLER. 2-1 JOCKS.
GOAL! Kenny Miller fires Scotland back into the lead!
The Jocks at Wembley are going potty as Miller collects, turns Cahill and fires into the left corner past Hart.
Oh - McGregor did well to keep out Gerrard's free kick.
Poor clearance by Jags , but a superb cross by Hutton that Miller did well to control before turning Cahill and scoring with a superb left footed finish.
Good to hear - Jozy still on that scoring jag.
Poland score two quick goals as they lead the Danes 3-2.
GOAL !!! 2-2 AS WELLIE SCORES.
GOAL! Welbeck fires back for England!
Great free kick from Stevie G as wellie did well to glance it in with his head.
Stevie G with another sumptuous free kick and Welly peeled off his man at the backpost to nod home.
This is set to be a cracking end to the match now.
Kenny Miller went from hero to villain as he concede the free kick as he showed why he is not a defender.
Kyle Walker booked for a poor foul on Jim Morrison.
Cambridge United now tie it up as it is 2-2 at welling.
Some argybargy now between Snoddy and Theo. Yellow cards all round.
We now have an England Scotland match as tempers are frayed.. A fight almost broke out as it started between Theo and Snoddy before getting out of hand. Order was restored.
Ukraine have defeated Israel 2-0
Great shot by Lamps and Baines was following in. McGregor did enough.
McGregor does well to parry a shot from Lamps, but an Outstretched rebound from Baines was harmlessly to McGregor.
Stevie G hands the captain's arm band to Lamps as he is replaced by The Ox.
Gerrard troops off after handing off the armband to Lamps. The Ox on for him.
Lamps booked for a poor foul on Shaun Maloney
New skipper Lamps gets a yellow for a chop on Maloney.
A poor pass from Ox deflects off of Hutton for a corner.
The corner from Roon was headed on by Cahill and Wellie volleyed wide,.
Welly with an acrobatic effort - wide of the mark.
Germany have scored and it is now 3-3 vs Paraguay.
Snoddy gets the hook - Mulgrew on for him.
LUFC Academy on alongside Ricky Lambert. What's the point of including a lower league striker?
Craig Conway on for Snoddy and Chalrie Mulgrew on for James Forrest. Rickie Lambert makes his England debut at age 31 , on for Roon.Milner on for Clever Boy.
Rickie Lambert plays in the Prem for Sotton , scoring 14 goals last season. Might as well try him out in a friendly and see what he can do.
Theo's goal today was only his 5th for England. A poor return for his 34 matches. I can name them - it's a hat-trick against Croatia and then a long shot against Sweden in the Euros last summer. And then this one.
Italy pull one back vs the Argies as they trail 1-2.
Danny Welbeck in contrast has 6 goals in 17 matches.
GOAL !!! 3-2 ENGLAND AS RICKIE LAMBERT SCORES A HEADER FROM A CORNER MINUTES AFTER COMING ON FOR HIS DEBUT.
GOAL! Ricky Lambert shuts me up with a tremendous header off a corner.
3-2 England!
Are you still questioning bringing on Rickie Lambert?
I know he's with Southampton in the Premiership but he's played his entire career in the lower leagues and is 30. What's the point of that?
The U.S. with two quick goals as they now lead 4-2 in Bosnia. what were you saying about the U.S.?
He just showed us that with his goals. Bosnia score and trail the U.S. 3-4.
I suppose he's worth a look for the squad but if we're relying on goals from 30 year old journeymen, we're not winning nowt next summer.
Leigh Griffiths of wolves on for Kenny Miller of the Vancouver Whitecaps. The Jocks over achieving.
That would be a spectacular win for Jurgen's men. Bosnia are certainly no Jamaica. They're a quality side.
He would be a great person to bring off the bench. I say why not? If he can score then he's young enough.
Way Hay! Wilfred Zaha on for Theo.
That's it in Sarajevo - a terrific win and the Where's Waldo boys are celebrating.
The U.S hang on to win 3-4 in Bosnia. A great win for Jurgen and his boys.
England now piling on the pressure. Jocks have looked suspect from crosses and corners, which seems crazy.
Great tip over by McGregor from a long range effort by Lamps.
Zaha wins an England corner that is easily cleared.
Cambridge United draw 2-2 at Welling.
A shocker as Northern Ireland defeat Russia 1-0 in a world Cup qualifier.
Jordan Rhodes on for Jim Morrison, who scored " Early Doors."
Oh - Zaha had a change from an acute angle but his cross-shot went nowhere.
Boom boom, MUR!
The Russians have lost two in a row and are second in the group, a point behind Portugal with a game in hand. They lead third place Israel by one point. The result has thrown this group wide open as that was the first win for the Ulstermen in this group.
I want to see Zaha put that one on someone's head.
More United players - Jones on for Jags.
Ta, Bob. I was looking for an excuse to use that joke.
Steven Naismith on for Shaun Maloney.
The Argies win 1-2 in Italy.
Germany vs Paraguay finished 3-3.
The Swiss defeat the Brazis 1-0.
Wales vs R of I finished 0-0 ion a Gaelic Derby.
England just running out the time now. Three added minutes to come.
Three minutes of stoppage time.
Oh - Lambert hits a post when he should have scored!
Nearly a second for Lambert as that shot came off the post. That is the point of playing him/
That was a lovely ball over from Zaha - deserved better.
wellie should have scored as his shot was easily saved and England win a thriller 3-2.
I am off to take Melanie to violin practice . I enjoyed chatting with you. Cheers mate,
Oh - McGregor just about collects Welbeck's effort.
And that's it - 3-2 in the end. Harder work than it should have been. But I'm sure that Gooner and Mark enjoyed all of those goals.
I'm off for a swim. I'll check in with you tomorrow.
