Good morning boys
MUR and I both wanted three UNITED wins today
Well, Cambridge are holding up their part of the barging. They are 3-1 at the hour mark
FSC are show some highlights of the '74 Charity Shield.
Leeds lost on pens
There is a pre-game show starts at 8:30
I'm at work but will be following by the BBC text, you all have a great morning.
LINE-UPS- Manchester United v Wigan Athletic (1400 BST)
Manchester United: De Gea, Rafael, Vidic, Jones, Evra, Zaha, Carrick, Cleverley, Giggs, Robin van Persie, Welbeck.
Wigan Athletic: Carson, Boyce, Perch, Barnett, Crainey, McCarthy, Watson, McArthur, Maloney, Holt, McClean.
Referee: Mark Clattenburg
Good Morning SS
Wigan scare me
I think they're a good side
Now another Leeds Liverpool Shield match being shown
'93 version... oh ah Cantona
Morning, UWS - I'm thoroughly enjoying the replays of the Charity Shield, especially those goals from King Eric.
Uh oh... Wigan just beat United in the Charity Shield Quiz
Just a reminder that Gooner and I were at Wembley for that 1974 Charity Shield match, right behind the goal where Bremner and Keegan tossed their shirts.
Subs for today:
United - Evans, Valencia, Anderson, Smalling, Lindy, Kagawa, Januzaj.
Wigan - McCann, NIcholls Gomez, McManaman, Espinoza, Dicko, Fortune.
Good morning everyone. I am ready for the Charity Shield match. Looks like a full strength lineup from Davie Moyesey.
Make it 5-1 as Cambridge United are taking newly promoted Halifax to the cleaners.
That is now a final score from Cambridge . A good start to the season for that UNITED.
Good Morning Boys
Glad to have a full house for this morning
FSC on commercial and other sutff as the teams come out of the tunnel!
I like having all three trophies there
I saw the 74 version where the captains brought the trophies out of the tunnel... I like that better
Away we go
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
They're off from sunny Wembuhlay
COME ON MAN UNITED!
Wigan to get us underway here at Wemberley!
Who is that Carson bloke playing goal for Wigan? Bob might know.
Don't like the shadow affect at the new Wemberlee
Morning MUR - I like the idea of all three Uniteds winning today.
Shadow effect is rubbish.
Now that Owen Coyle is in charge, playing wigan will be like playing Stoke.
Good morning Bob. I agree with both statements.
That shadow effect makes Wembuhlay look more like my back yard than Wembuhlay.
Must be a warm day in London after a couple of overcast days.
Good move by United but like last year the cross was poor!
My back yard looks better than Wemberley today.
GOAL! Wow - a cracking header for RVP opens the scoring for United!
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
RVP WITH A GREAT HEADER
United need to score while Wigan are frantically defending and not able to string any passes together.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!
THEY DO
RVP HWITH A GREAT HEADER FROM A GREAT CROSS BY EVRA
Are you watching, are you watching, are you watching WAYNE ROONEY?
Are you watching Wayne Rooney?
Great cross over from Evra and RVP had a lot to do to direct that header back across Scott Carson's path and into the corner. Fabulous start to the season!
1-0!
SCORE MORE UNITED PAST THAT RUBBISH KEEPER
What's the current news on Rooney? He's not even on the bench today- surely they're shopping him.
Hey - that's an LUFC Academy keeper you're talking about, mate!
That keeping was straight from the LUFC Academy?
Quite right Bob!
The latest on Roon as that he is having his umpteenth sulk and g=being a right rotter.
Ashes Update
England struggling in the second innings
They are 49 for 3 which is really 17 for 3 taking into account the first inning!
If United win by four or more then we need to sing Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb to the Wigan fans.
Apparently, he has a shoulder injury but will be fit to play Scotland at Wembley on Wednesday
Ashes Ashes We all Fall Down!
How ridiculous is it to have an international week THREE days before the league season starts!
Is that shoulder injury real? He got that when lying down sulking. I heard that UWS is not interested in watching England vs Scotland on Wednesday? Is that a rumor?
This is just a nice sunny day out for Wigan - they're real job is to get promotion.
It is really daft and dumb!
OH! A cross intended for Wellie was cut out for a United corner.
They just said that Valencia changed his number back to 25 for superstitious reasons... what do I read from that
RONALDO NEEDS A SHIRT
So, next Saturday is a momentous day in American footie coverage. Not only is it the debut of the Premiership on NBC networks, but it's also the debut for Fox Sports 1. I'm hedging my bets right now. I noticed that I get NBC Sports Channel but not BEin. I'm hoping that I can get Fox Sports 1 and BEIn in the same package that I've had.
What's wrong with Raffa? Naughty challenge from the bloke who scored the winning goal in the Cup Final?
Rafael looks like he's done his hammy... not good news for the new season
Weird seeing Phil Neville on the bench
Rafa has had enough for the day. Smalling on in his stead.
The corner is headed away as the new Wigan keeper looked really clueless.
Jones has shifted out to right back to cover Rafa's slot and Smalling has gone to center back.
What do you think about my theory
FS1 is replacing the SPEED Channel. If you were getting SPEED you would get FS1. Hope that helps.
The theory about Valencia? Well, he dropped down the pecking order as Zaha is first choice at his position, so he figures that if brought CR good luck it must work for him. Not being rubbish would help too.
I have a question about Coventry City? They will play home matches at Northampton's Sixfields Stadium. Wouldn't they need a seventh field for Coventry so their's doesn't get too beaten up.?
I got FSC and Speed
I thought FS1 would just replace FSC
Cheers, mate. I got Speed, so I should get FS 1. I wonder if I should cancel the FSC package and save myself $5 a month.
No - the new comedy channel FXX is replacing the FSC slot.
Boom boom MUR!
I cancelled FSC + to save $15. The info about FS1 replacing SPEED came off of Wikipedia.
Ta, Bob. Is it true though? Also, a step a City is begging a Town for a pitch to play on.
boom boom
They play today.. not many fans showing up but more at the Ricoh to watch a charity match with Legends
Five Live said that there have been discussions with the stadium and club owners. A deal was offered by the Stadium but the owners turned it down... they are paying more to play at Sixfields than they would at the Ricoh
MADNESS!
I want another goal and more attacking from the team in red
I heard that Coventry City will be on FXX, impersonating a football team.
Ta, UWS. I agree with both statements. Sad that another once respected club is falling into a shambolic state.
Where is El Hasbi?
LUFC Academy keeper catches a cross from Jones while staring into the sun
He actually lost his starting spot to Robles, the young keeper on loan from Athletico Madrid after a 4-0 loss at home to Liverpool. Hasn't played since.
United not impressing me so far
Has Grant Holt even touched the ball today?
I second that. Looking the United of the past three years
Is he still on the team?
Tom's theory
John Bosh^$)^*(*^(?) Wigan's left back isn't playing today because Martinez wants him at Goodison... don't they already have one... for now!!
Wigan are being thoroughly outplayed by United here but they should still be strong enough to secure promotion.
Is Martin Tyler calling United a Route 1 side?
I should have picked them
I thought they would fall after the departure of Martinez
Struth... Wigan should have scored there. Not good defending by Smalling!
Oh - Maclean got around the back of the United defense but then fizzed the cross too hard for Holt to get on to it. Close call.
I reckon that Owen Coyle is a decent Championship level manager. But they'll struggle again in the Prem. There is a widening gulf between divisions.
Just looked it up
There IS a link for City v United at the Crisp Bowl this afternoon!
Oh - decent save there by Carson to keep Welly out. Defense cleared it out.
Decent turn and shot by Welbeck... maybe a little high of a shot
Great save by Carson from Wellie as Wellie heads over from the corner.
I should think so - it's on BEin.
Grant Holt pushing Vidic... is he an idiot??
Clattenburg brings them over to settle them down but they spend most of the time still arguing!
Just checked. Al Habsi is still on Wigan. He has gone down the pecking order, third choice behind LUFC Academy and young Lee Nicholls. After the 0-4 home defeat to Liverpool in February his only match was the 2-2 draw vs Villa on the final day of the season, after Wigan had already been relegated.
Come on United
You've been pathetic
How could you not build on a goal in the first five minutes
Thanks Mr. Anorak.
No probs mate. I hope was able to be of some sort of assistance.
Trivia Question #1
Tom was given a matchday program of United's visit to Carrow Road
The name of the program is
OTBC.... what does it stand for?
Wigan have a late opportunity to swing a free kick into the box. Grant Holt is making a nuisance of himself.
Vidic called for a foul on Holt. It should have gone the other way
"On the Ball City!"
...Never mind the danger...
Phew. United got away with one as there were two unchallenged headers by Wigan players
Free header at the back post... knocked across the box and thankfully not in
Well done Robert!
I know you thought of Stef as you sang that
Well done Bob. I would have never guessed it. Great question, UWS.
1 added minute
Again... they are disappointing me again
One minute of stoppage time.
1 added minute
Again... they are disappointing me again
Wigan have raided Norwich for two players : Grant Holt and Leon Barnett.
I did indeed. Richard Erwin ("Yellows" on LOB) recently saw the Canaries in Seattle against the Sounders and posted some pics of himself and family under the tag line "On the Ball City!" on FB. Of course, you would have seen those, IF YOU WERE ON FB!
There is the half time whistle.
You can do better United... COME ON
Halftime and 1-0 to United , but as UWS stated, United have been disappointing against the Championship side.
Half-time then. United aren't completely running over Wigan but that excellent RVP header separates the sides.
What is this BookFace you speak of?
Trivia Question #2
Name the three Germans to win the Premier League title
I know one is Bollocks with Chelsea. I am thinking of the other two.
FSC showing the England Scotland match on Wednesday
Correct
You could chat with Debs, who clicked like on my post. If you were on FB you would know what I posted.
I heard that you are not interested in that match.
I think another one is Mad Jens with the Gunners.
Correct
I am... i just think it is stupid!
I completely agree with you. I was teasing, LOL!
Teams out for the second half
COME ON UNITED!!!
The second half is underway
COME ON MAN UNITED!
Lots of red seats showing... bloody cocktails crowd
Back for the second half now.
Can you help MUR with the trivia question
I agree. They think it's strawberries and cream at Wimpleton. Those Wombles!
At least the shadows have disappeared now. That was annoying me.
I am thinking of the third German and am drawing a blank.
well cleared by Smalling
They didn't disappear. the sun was in a cloud.
I'm thinking of a third German. Only United, Blackburn, Arsenal, City, and Chelsea have won it. Was Didi Hamann still on the City books when they won?
United are second best right now... to a Championship side
Bugger - shadows are back - have they got half the roof covered?
Cynical trip by MacArthur on Wellie on the break and deservedly booked by Clattenburg
Come on Cleverley... bury that!!
Incorrect
Not Hamman. He never won a title.
Still playing in the Prem
Great old shirt there in the stands
I used to have that one from the early 70s
The match from needs to be played on the seventh pitch has kicked off.
I'd take off Welbeck and bring on Lindegard
I'd take off Welbeck and bring on Lindegard
Poor old Coventry - I feel bad for them. First the city gets bombed by the Nazis - and now this!
LOL, UWS!
McLean wins a Wigan corner and the Wigan fans are excited.
Corner to Wigan - these are probably their best chances to strike back.
Great one, UWS.
Coventry can think back to their golden era from 1967 to 2001. A really sad decline.
COME ON UNITED!!!
The big match starts in approximately 45 minutes.
Was it Robert Huth with Chelsea? Is that the third one?
Is RVP still on the field???
Zaha does too many tricks... be simple
The match to which you are referring kicks off in about seventy five minutes. Smoky Bacon flavored for lunch?
GOAL! A bit jammy but United and RVP have their second!
YES!!!
RVP with his second!
Deflected but who cares
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
2-0 RVP WITH A BRACE.
Nice dummy by Giggs to Welly... I would have shot
Nice lay off by Welly and RVP struck his shot straight at Carson but it deflected off Perch and into the net.
2-0!
The ineffectual Holt has been replaced by Fortune.
Poor by wigan ,who conceded possession off their own long throw. Evra ,Clever Boy, and Wellie combined to help RVP score with deflected effort off of James Perch
Cantona and Leeds get a mention
Come on RVP, get the hat-trick
Valencia with #25
Last time someone hit a hat-trick in this match.
Agreed, Bob. Grant Holt let his mouth do the talking instead of his football. He had a really poor match and if it was a Championship match, Owen Coyle and him would have had a right old shouting match
The #7 shirt is open
COME HOME RONNY
I mentioned Robert Huth as the third German to win an EPL medal during his Chelsea days. Is that correct, UWS?
Last call for the last German
Still playing in the prem
You are correct
I missed your first comment
Valencia is on for Zaha as Moyes must figure that this match is sewn up. I expect Zaha to start on Saturday
thanks, UWS. Oddly enough all three Germans played for London clubs and two are psychos.
Well in, MUR!
Zaha did well enough today to earn a starting spot next Saturday. Is Nani still at OT?
Let's just say all three are
Surely this match is done and dusted. Bob must be thinking about chomping down on some smoky bacon flavor during lunch
He is but got hurt in Stockholm last week
Is there a cap to subbing today
Giggs off for Anderson
Thanks Bob. Yes a. all three are still there , but Nani has moved down the pecking order much to the delight of UWS and much to the chagrin of Bob.
IT's a friendly, but I think it's five per team. Anderson on for Old Man Giggsy may not go down well with UWS.
Shame to waste a player of that talent - we'd have him.
Giggs played twenty three seasons for the same manager. Is that a record ?
Oh - good move ends with Valencia hitting a deflected shot that just evades the back post.
Shoot Danny... you're an England striker!!
Nearly a third as a deflected effort from Valencia goes just wide for a corner.
Wellie an England striker , but not England quality
Coventry take the lead at Northampton where they should be playing on the seventh field.
Roger Espinoza on for Ben Watson. No cup heroics vs the real Manc club.
Evra down. Not a good sign.
It looks like nearly all United fans. Almost like a home match for us.
A few of the cocktail crowd have made it back to their seats after helping themselves to some prawn sandwiches.
same ol same ol.... useless cross by Valencia
Nice long ball from Smalling to Valencia, who puts in a requisite useless cross. Wellie refusing to shoot yet again.
This match is dying a slow death as both teams seem ready for the final whistle.
A lot of speculation about the future of Wayne Rooney.
Wayne wants to go Martin
The Gooner is none to happy about the rumors of a Suarez move.
nice move by United... almost ends in a tap in for RVP but cross blocked
Oh - nearly that tap in for the hat-trick for RVP. Welly slid an inviting ball over but Wigan cleared it out.
De Gea could be part of the cocktail crowd. I can't recall him being forced to make a save today.
