Lakenheath Old Boys

We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Giggsy In, Moyesy Out

It's all change at Old Trafford this morning, as David Moyes finally walked the plank. Gooner may have wanted him to stick around but most United fans had lost their patience with the fiery Scot. Old Man Giggs with fill in as a caretaker for the last four matches. Your thoughts, gentlemen?

I was a fan of Moyes coming in. I thought he would be a good manager for us. I was wrong. The team has been atrocious. I knew there would be a dip but not a avalanche! It is not that United are going to finish seventh. It is not that United have played the other top six and have only won ONE of twelve matches. Liverpool 2 losses, Chelsea 1 loss and 1 draw, Citeh 2 losses, Arsenal a win and draw, Everton 2 losses and Spurs 1 loss and 1 draw….. BRILLIANT FORM!
The main problem I have is the performances and style. United play with pace and attack… not this season. Slow and no creativeness… I have been disgusted. Against Everton, Moyes said we passed well and had so much possession…. WHO CARES!! United created NOTHING!
You say it is the not the United way. Well. that is only because of Ferguson… take out the abnormal manager for 26 years… United did fire their managers. Atkinson didn't last that long. Sexton was axed. O'Farrell and McGuiness were sent packing.

Again, i wasn't a fan of getting rid of him but I was converted!

I'm disappointed with this decision, as it's not the way that United has operated in the past. It seems a betrayal of their legacy. I thought Moyes was a perfect replacement for Fergs, continuing the long tradition of British (and especially Scots) managers. Now I fear that United will see a procession of Continental managers with Champions League pedigrees, much like Chelski has seen.

I second UWS. I actually wanted Moyes out in October during the reunion if anyone remembers me stating that in Fred Town. As UWS stated, United's performances were horrible , he has spent 62 mil on two players who have been a bust , and otherwise they are seventh with basically the same team that won the Prem by fifteen points last season. It is delightful news that he is walking the plank. I would have preferred to have UWS in charge for the last four games instead of Giggsy. Now the media will be throwing out a lot of names. I had wanted Klopp or Roberto last May. Moyes was not my first choice. I hope Fergie has learned his lesson and will not " handpick" any more successors.Nationality should not dictate who we pick. If a continental manager, who plays the United way is the best man for the job then so be it. I don't think there are any good British managers up to the United job, so what choice do United have? The good British managers are just not out there and United need to be challenging for everything. Also, United was too big a club for Moyes. we need someone , who can properly rebuild this team , who knows how to manage a big club, and deal with all the egos. UWS was correct that previous managers did not last that long , but they all lasted longer than Moysie. He's been that bad. McGuiness lasted 18 months, Sexton four years, Atkinson five years, and O' Farrell about 18 months. IS Moysie's reign the shortest in United's history? Well, it's his fault.

I agree with you about keeping a flow of Scots in charge. I was in favor of Moyes appt. I just think Moyes has been so bad and the performances have been atrocious.
Again, the "United Way" is only because Fergie was there for 26 years. After Sir Matt left, there was Wilf McGuiness, Sir Matt again, Frank O'Farrel, Tommy Docherty, Dave Sexton all in the 70s! Sexton and Ron Atkinson didn't last much of the 80s... then there was SAF.!
United is not a team that will not fire a manager after winning the double the year before, winning the league and then coming second, winning a Champions League OR CHALLENGING for the Championship
Moyes, crucially, failed to do the last one... that's why he is gone

There's a lack of patience in keeping managers, I guess that's how it is when there is so much money at stake.

That said I think this is of Moyes' doing, he really cocked it up from dismantling the back room and bringing in weak assistants. The talent was mostly there for him, but his tactics were poor and the results showed. He managed United the same way he did Everton, and had far greater talent and resources. He'll end up someplace, sooner than later.

Moyes had a deer in the headlights look about him all season, what the heck happened to him to give him that? He's had years of experience. How out of his depth and comfort zone was he?

Yes. Get rid of that backroom staff. If the Little Neviller and Giggsy are so eager to coach then deal with the youth team, under eights, etc. and gain some valuable experience. The new manager needs to bring in a qualified staff. Moyise should have kept Fergie's staff and not fixed something that wasn't broken.

UWS should be the new gaffer so he can whip them into shape and have the team playing the United way. Just beware of the politics and change the backroom staff!
