Spuds vs QPR is about ten minutes in and it's 0-0
I have a link loading for Hull City vs Stoke City
GOAL !!! CHADLI GIVES THE SPUDS THE LEAD.
rEMY WAS TACKLED IN MIDFIELD BY bETALEB. He found Ade down the left and he crossed for Chadli to chest down past Richard Dunne and superbly chip Robert Green
James Chesters has been sent off for Hull City.
Good morning. Dual screening here with Tottenham/QPR on the TV and Hull/Stoke on the iPad. Time Warner finally decided to include Extra Time.
Matty Phillips just missed a sitter for QPR with their first chance of the match. He collected a long ball , turned Kaboul, then chipped over with just the keeper to beat.,
OH! a free kick from Eriksen has come off the underside of the bar.
Danny Rose fouls Remy just outside the box.
Good morning Someone. I am dual screening too, watching both matches. How have you been?
It took a while to load a link for the match at the KC , but it finally loaded.
Staying busy here.
ooh, Dyer scores off a corner and Spurs are up 2-0.
GOAL!!! ERTC DYER HEADS IN A CORNER TO PUT THE SPUDS TWO UP.
The England Under 21 international, who had been playing in Portugal, now has two goals in two matches for the Spuds.
My stepfather came for a short visit, he left this morning. Son started school last week. Been so busy this morning the coffee's not even up yet.
Changing that now.
I am doing the same. Tomorrow is the first day of school for students, so it is going to be a full schedule.
It does sound like you've had a busy weekend. I need to start brewing some coffee too.
Int the other match it's Sparky Hughes vs Brucie , am managerial battle of former United players.
GOAL !!! 3-0 SPUDS. EASY PEASY. LAMELLA WENT ON A SOLO RUN , PUT IN A NICE CROSS AND CHADLI HAD A FEE HEADER FROM CLOSE RANGE AND MADE IT COUNT.
Diouf booked for a nasty foul on Fatty Huddlestone.
Not a happy return to SFL for Harry or Hoddle.
Bojan Krcic is on for Glen Whelan against the ten man Tigers. An attacking move by Sparky.
GOAL!!! JELAVIC PUTS TEN MAN HULL CITY IN THE LEAD. BEGOVIC SAVED FROM FATTY AND JELAVIC EASILY TAPPED IN THE REBOUND. HIS FIRST GOAL AT THE KC.
Jelavic scores for 10 man Hull. 1-0!
Phil Bardsley booked for a cynical challenge.
Ade has a shot blocked for a corner. The Spuds maintain possession off the corner.
A minute of stoppage time at SFL and two minutes at the KC.
The Spuds are three up at the half.
Arnautovic wins a corner off of el Mohammedy.
McGregor catches the corner and it's halftime as Hull City are a man down , but a goal up.
Both matches at the half. QPR going to take the tube home, or does Harry rip them a new one?
The second half is underway in both matches
I think Harry tore into them. Joe Jordan is sitting a few seats away from him.
Remy wins a corner off of Vertonghen,.
CULKER HEADS WIDE FROM THE CORNER.
Onuha tackles for a Spuds corner taken shot and they have a long spell of possession.
Stoke City with a short free kick and McGregor saves easily from Shawcross.
Bjoan Krcic crosses for Meme Diouf, the former United reject and his header is saved by McGregor.
El Mohammedy wins a corner off a long and determined run.
Arnautovic comes off injured and is replaced by Crouchie.
Young Ince gets a standing ovation as he is replaced by Liam Rosenior.
Eriksen over from long range as the Spuds aim for a fourth goal.
Dembele on for Bentaleb.
Bojan Krcic booked for a foul on Jelavic.
QPR win a corner off a long free kick.
Caulker heads down off the corner and it is cleared. Not a happy return to the Lane for him either nor Sir Les, sitting with Tony Fernandes.
A great chance for Stoke , who broke through Bojan and found Crouch with a nice pass. His shot was blocked by McShane and made it to Meme Diouf , who headed wide.
Morning, MUR - I had a lie-in with Kate because we had a late night out after a long week. I'll be back for the United match in an hour or so. Thanks for getting us started this morning.
GOAL ADE PUTS THE SPUDS FOUR UP.
Charlie Adam on for Steve Sidwell.
Good morning Bob. I look forward to chatting with you. Hope you and Kate had a great night out
McGregor superbly tips over a long range effort from fellow Scoot, Charlie Adam. The corner is cleared.
Back to the Spuds goal. It all started with an innocuous goal kick and after a few passes, the QPR defense was torn to shreds as Danny Rose had acres of space down the left and found Ade , who easily slotted past Rob Green.
Nacer Chadli receives a standing ovation as he scored his first two goals at SFL and is replaced by Harry Kane.
Rio clears a pass from Eric Dier for a Spuds corner. The corner is headed away, but the Spuds keep possession.
Clive Allen on the microphone as two of his many former clubs are in action. It looked like Ian Darke alongside him.
Another player returning to SFL, as Bobby Zamora is on for Matty Phillips.
Rob Green punches away a deflected shot as Harry Kane was pouncing.
Jelavic gets a standing ovation as he is replaced by George Boyd.
Remy wins a corner off of Eric Dier.
Joe Barton whips in a nice corner and Danny Rose heads into his own net , but Onuha is called for a foul.
GOAL !!! 1-1 as Ryan Shawcross bundles home a rebound . it was just barely over the line and verified by goal line technology. it all started with a throw that Hull City thought they should have had. Bjoan Krcic put in a nice cross and Curtis Davies had a header come off the inside of the post and off McGregor , then Shawcross bundled home from close range.
Hull City will be bitterly disappointed as they thought they held out for a win and the replay showed that a Stoke cross last came off of Pieters. Hull City should have been awarded the throw instead of Stoke.
Ping pong in the Spuds box and Bobby Zamora finds Row M with just Lloris to beat.
Hull City have a late corner. They keep it in the corner as it is obvious they are settling for the draw.
Four minutes of stoppage time at the KC and two minutes at SFL.
Remy has a long range effort deflected for a corner.
Caulker heads wide off the corner from Joey Barton.
The Spuds easily defeat QPR 4-0 and they're off to the KC/
The Stoke goal has now been credited as a McGregor OG as the shot from Shawcross came off McGregor's back and trickled just over the line.
It finishes 1-1 at the KC. Neither manager will be pleased as Hull City held a lead a man down most of the match, but conceded late off a throw that they should have had. Stoke will be disappointed that they only drew despite having a man advantage most of the match
I'm off to take Sparky walkies , but will be back for United vs the Black Cats.
I'm back for the late one. Here are the teams:
Sunderland: Mannone; Vergini, O’Shea, Brown, Van Aanholt; Cattermole, Larsson, Rodwell; Buckley, Fletcher, Wickham. Subs: Pantilimon, Jones, Bridcutt, Gomez, Altidore, Mavrias, Roberge.
Man Utd: De Gea; Jones, Smalling, Blackett; Valencia, Fletcher, Cleverley, Young; Mata; Rooney, Van Persie. Subs: Januzaj, Hernandez, Welbeck, Kagawa, Michael Keane, Amos, James.
Referee: Martin Atkinson (W Yorkshire)
Of course this mundane matter of the match is somewhat overshadowed by the impending transfer of Real winger Angelo Di Maria to United for a jillion pounds.
I'm back in time for the Black Cats vs United from the SOL. The teams are in the tunnel.
I love the pretension of Sunderland playing Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" overture while the players are coming out. Everton's "Z Cars Theme" would be more appropriate.
Welcome back, mate - how was the walkies with Shadow?
Good morning Bob. Glad to enjoy the pleasure of your company. Di Maria better be one of the all time United greats or else that can be deemed another overpriced transfer.
Ta, Bob. It was with Sparky and am delighted to be inside the air conditioned house.
I thought the theme music was rather interesting, building up the suspense.
Both teams had poor home form last season. They had much better away form.
They're off from the SOL.
COME ON MAN UNITED!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
Chaotic defending from United from the off as Yashley gives away possession , and Connor whickham played a nice through ball. Great last ditch tackle from Jones.
We've only just started and Yashley has played a suicidal backpass that Leeds ex-loanee Connor Wickham was nearly on to. Jittery start for your lot.
Of course Ander Herrera is crocked after one match. Welcome to the Prem Hair Bear too, but he's no loss.
Van Gaal is apparently a tactical genius so he doesn't need to take advice from the likes of me but is Yashley really a proper full-back?
I thought Herrera was good in pre-season, no?
Roon and RVP playing up front and United really need some goals from them.
Cattermole scored a corker last week and he's trying his luck again. Whiffed it wide.
Herrera was, but struggled against Swansea. Agreed about Yashley. I know Evra went to Juve and the other Dutch left back went to a Russian team, but I thought United did sign a left back.
That goal from Cattermole was a collector's item.
In the GBB stakes, Ramsey, Costa, Naismith and Berahina are tied on two goals.
United struggling with the back three formation as Smalling clears into touch. The players don't seem to know their roles.
will that change tomorrow?
Sunderland really working hard to put United's backfour under pressure. Poyet's got them well schooled.
Clev tries a pop but that's an effort from a player lacking in confidence.
United finally with a chance as Valencia goes down the right and passes to Not So Clever Boy , who shoots well over.
Hey Guys
I am around and about today
May not be here all the time
Atrocious so far by the team in blue
They're making me feel blue!
I thought we were going to get rid of half the players starting today!
Cleverley, Valencia, Young
Herrera out injured
Agreed. Sunderland look well in control.
Good morning UWS. You are spot on about the blues.
Blackett looked okay last week except for passing the ball right back to Bony so he could take a free kick and let Swansea break
Welcome, UWS - "blue is the color/football is the game...." la la la
Atrocious by Cleverley!!!
I should know the answer to this question , but UWS probably will. Did United sign a proper left back this summer.? Bob and I were discussing that Yashley is not meant to play that position.
Great football song.. one of the best
Atrocious by Fletch!!!
Well,
Shaw and Rojo are both left backs
Blackett actually played better than his experienced teammates. I put that poor back pass down to inexperience. Otherwise, he showed that he should be starting.
Young… unbelievable
Young seems all at sea - gives away a stupid foul and Sunderland can now bring the big boys up.
Training pitch routine....does all awry.
Cleverley and Young have been as bad as each other!!!!
Now it's Clev diving in - take 2 on the free kick.
Ta, UWS. I should have know that. Is Shaw out injured.? Rojo should be able to start after the international break. otherwise, it doesn't make sense to start Yashley at left back when there are two internationals that play that position.
I really thought United were going to be better this season!!!!
Shaw is out at least a month
Me too. They said that LVG normally has a poor start his first three months in the job , then all of a sudden play well. I'm not willing to wait that long
Atrocious again by our VICE CAPTAIN!!!
Oh - Wickham was in from a great ball from Buckley. Somehow couldn't compose himself. United at over the place at the back.
OH! Connor whickham was clean through and had a tame effot easily saved by De Gea.
GOAL! Yes - that's exactly what United needed. Mata with the finish!
GOAL!!
I MISSED IT
MATA WITH THE GOAL
UNDESERVED!
YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!
UNITED TAKE THE LEAD AGAINST THE RUN OF PLAY A MINUTE AFTER WHICKHAM MISSED A SITTER.
Valencia did really well to get into a crossing position and the deflection helped it on to Mata who only had to tap in.
United 0-1 up!
Can't believe we are winning!
Is that the turning point?
Win six nil and win the next 36 games!!!
And now there's a chorus of "Glory, Glory, Man Utd!" coming from the United corner of the terrace.
It came off a long United possession and a pass from Valencia was whipped in and I think it was an OG by Seb Larsson. Definitely against the run of play.
Before the goal I was typing this
United in the mid Naughties were better than this lot
When we let Arsenal and Chelsea win their titles in 04, 05 and 06… the likes of Phil Neville had a starting spot instead of in the 90s when he was a squad player
You could say the same as Fletch, Clev, Young, Smalling, Jones, Valencia….
Hopefully, this will settle United's nerves.
United jump from 17th to 10th… a couple more goals would up us to 7th
It was a dangerous ball in that neither Brown nor O'Shea - the two former United center backs - wanted to touch for fear of turning into their own nets.
Good point, UWS. United also spent 76 mil on players and two out of three are out injured. We need them ASAP.
Fletcher goes in with a nasty one on Chris Smalling.
So how will Di Maria change this side. The first person you could see pushed aside is Juan Mata, right?
Where would DiMaria play? Would we move back to a 4 4 2 and play him on the flank
He won't play out wide with 3 at the back.. he won't come back and defend
Seventh place sound s familiar , but not good enough. Good point, Bob. The former United center backs let it go so the former Arsenal midfield player could turn it in to his own net. we need all the help we can get.
That is a good point. I was thin king that he could replace Valencia, but he will have to defend. It's not La Liga.
Yashley with a decent cross over that Brown was forced to nod behind.
Good run by Young and crossed well
United corner… it will hit the first man and be cleared
Yashley has a cross headed out for a corner by the Orange and a wasteful ccrner by Mata.
I think he plays on the left more often for Real, no?
A Dutch collision as RVP fouls Van Arnholt.
take Young's spot then… I think it needs to be a 442
That makes sense.
I do not follow Real closely enough. In that case, I'm not sure if he would replace Mata or Not So Clever Boy. Yashley would be replaced by Shaw or Rojo,
Nice turn by Whickham off the throw, past Jones , but wide with the effort.
I'd like to have Blind.. of course.. he plays on the left but would be good at the back
Blind, Rojo and ?
Of course, not sure what Rojo is like
Leeds United get another mention
United are still piss poor
It seems as if the system would need to change in order to accomodate Di Maria.
That was a rather kind evaluation of Wickham's term at Leeds. He was pants.
The Leeds mention must be Connor whickham.
COMPLETELY WIDE OPEN IN SIDE THE SIX
BLOODY HELL
Oh dear - Jack Rodwell with a free header levels it.
1-1
BLOODY HELL! JACK RODWELL HEADS IN AS HE SCORES HIS FIRST SUNDERLAND GOAL.
Gus is loving it but that was a real gift.
Good move from United earns a free kick down the right.
A deserved equalizer by the Black Cats and a poor goal to concede. Great corner by Seb Larsson, but Rodwell had a free header.
Useless free kick by Mata
If United were to sign Danny Blind then we would hope there wouldn't be any blind spots. I hope Rojo doesn't see red, and that Shaw shores up the defense.
And now another chance - Roon over this one.
Mata runs over it and Roon whips it wide left.
Poor free kick from Roon is well wide.
Tyler Blackett appears to be playing left back. Where's Yashley?
United having possession but going no where!!!
AND LOSE THE BALL
Why did Roon take it away from goal when he go the ball from Fletch
RVP has been invisible except for committing fouls
Atrocious AGAIN by Young
Signs of the times… I just opened the ESPN webpage and the headline with picture says
United lose Early Lead
It's really not clicking for United in midfield. I'm surprised - there's plenty of quality there. United should at least be like Arsenal - exciting going forward but loose at the back.
whickham heads on a long cross and Fletch well wide with a bicycle kick.
Keane about to come on for Smailling… is it because he's crap?
Early United substitution - Keane for Smalling. What's that all about?
Agreed, Bob. They are really out of sorts. As I type there is going to be a change as young Michael Keane is about to come on for Smalling. Here it is. LVG definitely not pleased.
Straight down the tunnel
Two minutes before half time!!
I think UWS has an accurate explanation. LVG sending a very firm message.
Unless Smalling is injured, it might signal the end of his United career. LVG will take a dim view of that conduct.
Two minutes of stoppage time.
"United's front three something special"
NO THEY'RE NOT
Half-time - A perplexing half for United fans. Some bright moments but a lot of head-scratching play.
1-1
Half time
Very depressing
It's 1-1 at the half despite a poor United performance.
Not MANY bright moments
Valencia did cross for the goal but it was same ol same ol from him
He just shuts his eyes and whacks it with all of his might… THIS time… it happens not to hit the defender in front of him. 95% of the time it is blocked
It looked like the same old United. I hope subbing Smalling will give United players a kick up the backside.
We're off for the second half
I hope it is much better!!
The second half is underway at the SOL.
We're back on at the Stadium of Light - second half off and away.
I hope LVG gave them the hairdryer treatment. His halftime talks will be crucial this season.
COME ON MAN UNITED!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
COME ON MAN UNITED!
Hammy injury for Smailling…. maybe
Apparently Smalling has a hammy strain. Makes sense.
Lucky United . Not So Clever Boy caught in possession and the ref's whistle saved him.
Yes. That does make sense. Otherwise, he was going to look a right fool heading up the tunnel.
Nice move but it's ruined by a useless delivery into Mannone's arms.
Pathetic going forward!!
Roon was not very positive going forward… of course.. hopeless cross by Young
Fred is napping despite Sunderland's performance. I blame the weather.
STRUTH.. Wickham should have scored and it could have been put in his own net by Blackett
Roon tries to take around the Sunderland many.. he doesn't change pace to get around him
OH! A shot from W attack on Whickham is nearly turned in for an OG by Tyler Blackett. Roon called for a foul on the following attack.
