The East Anglian Derby Retturns!
It's Week 3 of the season and we're already getting some tasty fixtures coming along. I'm up early to watch the return of the East Anglian Derby between our old stomping grounds of Norwich and Ipswich. It all starts on BEin at 7:15am. That's followed shortly by Villa v. Newcastle on NBC Sports Network. Join me for all the business here on the LOB.

Wow - I have to admit that I was working so hard this week that I completely missed the controversy swirling around Malky Mackay, who was set to join Crystal Palace before it was revealed to the FA that he'd had the nasty habit of sending bigoted texts while at Cardiff.
Good morning Bob. I'm here to join you for the Derby between some regularly watched teams.
I did not see that either. WOW! I guess that has ended Malky's brief career as a manager. What a loser!
Definitely a match between teams who play at familiar grounds. We have been at Portman Road many a time.
The teams are coming out at Portman Road:
Ipswich - Gerken, Chambers, Berra, Smith, Mings, Anderson, Huam, Skuse, Tabb, Murphy, McGoldrick
Norwich - Ruddy, Martin, Bennett, Turner, Whittaker, Tettey, Johnson, Lafferty, Hoolihan, Redmond, Grabban.
Looking at that Canaries lineup, if Neil Adams can get this team promoted then he can't get anyone promoted.
Morning, MUR - I hope you had a good week. I think I may have missed a phone call from you yesterday but I'm not sure as my phone has been acting up.
I'm shocked to see that only Bradley Johnson has survived from the Leeds contingent in this line-up. No Snoddy, no Johny Howson, no Becchio. Wow!
They're of from Portman Road.
And we're away at our old stomping grounds at Portman Road. It's been quite some time since I last watched a live match from Ipswich.
Laffterty catches Mings and Ipswich have an early opportunity to whip a cross in.
I don't think I called yesterday. I can call this weekend. I did have a busy week. How about you?
It's still a strong Canaries lineup that should get promoted even if they are poorly managed.
Ryan Bennett is off injured. Was it off the foul from Daryl Murphy? It looks like former Citeh Player, Garrido, will come on in his place.
Extremely busy week, mate. And more to come.
I missed the incident but Ryan Bennett has crocked himself and has been stretchered off while I was making a cuppa.
I was too. ESP? I saw what seemed a minor stamp by Daryl Murphy, but the announcer said he twisted his ankle.
I will be busy too. The students start school on Monday.
Over by Daryl Murphy in the best move of the match.
Happy Second Anniversary to BEIN.
Indeed. It's making my cable bill firghteningly expensive but I do love it.
I second that.
You mentioned that Norwich should have an easy return to the Premiership this season but I don't know. I picked them to go up but I'm not sure that this current side is of Premiership quality or even good enough to mount a challenge. We'll see.
I saw that Leeds have a trip to Watford today. Your thoughts?
Dean Gerken saves easily from Whittaker after a nice one two.
Have you got a big number "2" in the bottom left of your screen? I wonder what that is?
Watford have two wins so far, so I fear that they'll be too strong for us. I would love an away draw.
The 2 represents BEIN's second anniversary
Hyam seemed to lash out at Johnson there. Referee having words.
A draw would be a great result. Sorry about the result on Tuesday.
Gerken does well to save a long range effort from Lewis Grabban
Berra heads out a cross from Tettey for a Canaries corner.
Ah...of course. Thanks, mate. My brain isn't quite firing yet.
GOAL! The Canaries strike first!
WOW! A STRIKER'S GOAL FROM LEWIS GRABBAN. WAS HE OFFSIDE? NO BERRA DOWN ON THE GROUND KEPT GRABBAN ONSIDE. THE CORNER WAS HEADED AWAY THEN HEADED ON BY TETTEY TO GRABBAN WHO HEADED IN FROM A YARD OUT.
Louis Grabban with a nod on from the header back in from Tettey. Berra played him on. It's his fourth in four matches now. He's certainly ticking along after having moved from Bournemouth this summer.
Mick will be upset at the Tractor Boys conceding a really cheap goal. Christophe Berra was the villain as he conceded an unnecessary corner then kept Grabban onside while down on the ground.
If you're following the Premiership match on NBC, here's the team news:
Aston Villa: Guzan, Hutton, Vlaar, Senderos, Cissokho, Delph, Westwood, N’Zogbia, Richardson, Weimann, Agbonlahor.
Subs: Sanchez, Baker, Bacuna, Cole, Bent, Given, Grealish.
Newcastle United: Krul, Janmaat, Williamson, Coloccini, Dummett, Anita, Cabella, Colback, Sissoko, Gouffran, Riviere.
Subs: De Jong, Perez, Haidara, Elliot, Obertan, Steven Taylor, Abeid.
Referee: Mike Dean (Wirral)
Cole Skuse harshly booked. There seemed nothing wrong with that challenge.
Really sloppy defending, especially from a corner by a team that's pretty big.
Nice to see the pictures of Melanie's confirmation on FB.
Agreed Bob. Lewis Grabban is a much needed signing for the Canaries .They finally have a striker that can score consistently and that may be enough to get them back up to the Prem.
Oh - just wide there by McGoldrick who is usually the danger man for Ipswich.
Just wide by David MacGoldriock . Better from Ipswich
Nice move there from Norwich through Grabban. They're in full flow.
Tettey has a shot blocked then wide by Kyle Lafferty.
They're off from Villa Park.
Ta, Bob. Melanie did really well last night.
Christophe Berra having a tough time for Ipswich. A minute after the goal he was lucky not to concede a penalty after a shirt pull on Grabban in the box?
Lafferty has a shot blocked off a pass from Redmond. It's all Canaries as the gulf in class is starting to show.
Half an hour gone and Norwich are in a really good position here.
They may not be Prem class, but can anyone in the Championship really claim that?
A foul from behind by Lafferty on Jay Tabb and deservedly booked for that.
Daryl Murphy shoots straight at Ruddy.
High and wide by McGoldrick.
It's starting to get a bit testy as Bradley Johnson is called for a foul and is upset that Mings was not called for a foul on Tettey, who is down.
It doesn't look good as Tettey is hobbling off.
The long free kick from Jay Tabb is easily cleared.
Ron Vlaar is down injured for Villa. That would be a huge loss for the Villains.
I've been doing some research on the Mackay texts. Here's a sample of the ones he sent:
(On the relationship between Korean player Kim Bo-Kyung and his agent Carly Barnes) - "OI hope she's looking at your needs. I bet you'd love a bounce on her falsies."
(On agent Phil Smith) - "Go on, fat Phil. Nothing like a Jew to let money slip through his fingers."
(On Kim Bo Kung) "Fucking Chinkeys. Fuck it - there's enough dogs around Cardiff for us all to go around."
The FA should throw the book at him.
It seems as if Vlaar will be okay.
Definitely getting rather spicy out there.
Almost half time and Ipswich have a corner.
I agree. I thought that type of racism had been stamped out of the game. He should be banned for life and even face criminal charges.
There will be SEVEN minutes of stoppage time! I know there was a few stoppages.
Lafferty heads well wide from the free kick by Nathan Redmond.
Those seven minutes have just started.
McGoldrick goes for something special right at the end of the half. Doesn't come off.
Halftime and the Canaries are deservedly one up at Portman Road.
I'm off to Villa Park during the break. 0-0 there.
it's still 0-0 about half an hour into the match at Villa Park.
It's hard to believe , but the East Anglian Derby has looked more like a Prem match then this snoozer at Villa Park.
The second half is underway from Portman Road.
Cole skuse has a shot deflected, but a foul is called. Daryl Murphy took too long top shoot as he was in a position with a great chance.
It's Callie 0 Celtic 0 at the half.
Daryl Murphy heads just wide off a cross from Jay Tabb. It was a free header,.
Better from the Tractor Boyz. Mick must have given them the hairdryer treatment at the half.
Lewis Grabban just missed a sitter. He chipped over with just Dean Gerken to beat There was a huge gap and Garrido found Grabban.
The other Bennett is on for Lafferty. It's 0-0 at the half at Villa Park.
I ended up spending the rest of the half kipping on the magic couch. Not a lot of action.
The attendance at Portman Road is just over 25,00. Tremendous for the East Anglian Derby.
Welcome back mate. Each side had a good chance while you were on the couch.
Ruddy turns away a shot from McGoldrick at the near post for a corner that is easily cleared.
Great save by Gerken from Grabban on the break.
The chances in the last few minutes should have awakened Bob. It's been better this half.
Oh - Grabban was put clear but his touch let him down there. Forced wide and the chance was gone.
Tommy Smith clears off the line from Grabban after he rounded Grabban. His poor first touch prevented him from putting the Canaries two up. It all started with a tackle in midfield.
Grabban could easily have had a hat-trick at this point.
Norwich keep coming. Grabban feeds Johnson there put a side-footed effort.
Congrats on being named Associate Professor. It is much deserved.
Ipswich are in a real pickle now with Gerkin in goal.
Boom boom!
The Tractor Boyz seem to have run out of ideas.
Thanks, mate - it was all part of a long-term 10-year plan.
Nice one.
BOOM BOOM!
Well done. A great plan has come to fruition. What is the goal in the next Ten Year Plan?
Cheers, mate.
I'm still shopping my second book around to publishers. No bites yet. Then I'm just starting a third.
I'll be eligibel for Full Professor in another five years.
Nathan Redmond wins a corner off of Cole Skuse. A push is called off the corner.
I'm sure you will accomplish those goals. You are definitely talented and an asset to the University and the community.
Bru coming on for Hyam now - Ipswich need a spark. Henshall as well. And Connor Salmon who was on loan with us last season.
The Tractor Boyz will make a triple substitution. They are Bru for Hyam, Hensall for Jay Tabb ,and Connor Salmon for Paul Slamon.
Thanks, mate - I get started in my role as Chair on Monday with the start of the semester. Things have been great so far.
Agreed Bob. They have run out of ideas.
I guess Mick's plan is to wash the Salmon with some Bru!
Indeed. He might be an Irn Bru.
Great block by Tommy Smith from Russell Martin or else the Canaries would have gone two up.
I was thinking Iron Bru. Still a great idea.
Bringing on Salmon shows that Mick is fishing for some ideas.
The cross from Bru is headed out for a corner.
A poor corner from Hensall is easily cleared.
A shocker north of the border. Callie have taken the lead vs Celtic.
Michael Turner heads out a cross from Henshaw for a corner.
The corner from Hensall is headed away.
Great save by Gerken from Garrido.
Mings wins a free kick for Ipswich
Oh - Garrido got through and launched a sharp shot that Gerkin saved.
Less than ten minutes left.
The free kick from Hensall is headed away by Whittaker then Mings fouls Tettey on the break and is booked.
Gary O'Neil on for Wes Hoolihan.
Now I have Cream's " Strange Bru" ringing in my head.
This result would have Norwich top of the pops - at least temporarily.
I did pick them and they have been in top form since that opening day defeat to Wolves.
Three minutes of stoppage time.
Daryl Murphy heads a long free kick straight to Ruddy as time is running out for the blue half.
Easy save for Gerken from Redmond.
A minute remaining.
The Canaries grind out a 0-1 win at Portman Road and have bragging rights in East Anglia. A deserved win.
That's it - Norwich hang on to grab three vital points. A good win but they should have put it to bed much earlier.
A real upset north of the border as Callie have defeated Celtic 1-0.
Elizabeth just did the ice bucket challenge. Your turn, mate.
I'm on it, mate. I've got to find some creative method.
Looking forward to seeing this Chelski line-up.
Back just in time for the 10 AM kickoffs. The televised match is Chelsea vs the Foxes.
They're off from SB.
A expected, the borefest at Villa Park finished 0-0.
Dean Hammond tackled Diego Costa for a corner that was punched away by Kasper,
I'm back for the Chelski v. Leicester match-up. Here are the line-ups:
Chelsea - Courtois, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpi, Matic, Fab, Schurlly, Oscar, Hazard, Costa.
Leicester - Schmeichel, DeLaet, Morgan, Moore, Konchesky, Mahrez, King, Hammond, Schlupp, Nugent, Ulloa
A real test for the Foxes today.
I have Soccer Saturday running as Preston have taken the lead vs Oldham.
I've got it on as well. Well in, mate!
Bob will not be pleased that a Big Club have taken the lead at the Riverside and not pleased that Bury have taken the lead at Argyle.
Cheers mate. Great minds think alike.
Accrington Stanley take the lead vs Luton , who haven't lefty Bedfordshire.
Jeff none too pleased that Matty Tubbs has given the Real Dons the lead vs his favorite team.
Chris K reporting on Watford vs Leeds, whom Chris says have had a confident start.
Not at all pleased that Not a Big Club are in the playoff spots.
Jordan Rhodes gives Blackburn the lead vs Bournemouth.
Still early doors. A lot can change. They host Forest in a noon kickoff next Saturday.
Morecambe and Wise take the lead at Cambridge.
Leicester are holding their own so far at the Bridge.
Decent attack now down the right earns the Foxes their first corner.
De Laet has a cross headed out for a corner. Nice passing from Mayherez and Nugent.
The corner was taken short and a poior cross from Konchesky was easily cleared.
Accrington Stanley two up vs Luton, who seem to be in Bedfordshire.
A mad scramble now in the Leicester box. Somehow cleared out.
Hearts take the lead at Raith , Rangers take the lead vs Dumbarton, and Forest take the lead vs Reading.
Paul Caddis gives Brum the lead at Brentford from the spot. The Bees had a man sent off for a professional foul.
Birmingham take the lead at Brentford through a penalty.
Abe Lincoln go two up vs Braintree.
Grant Hanley puts Blackburn two up vs Bournemouth.
BUGGER ! Watford take the lead vs Leeds thanks to a goal from Fernando Forestieri.
Sorry Bob.
Nathan Dyer gives Swansea the lead vs Burnley.
Bugger - Forestieri has put Watford 1-0 up.
Chris K said it was Watford's first shot on target in the match. It was poor defending by Leeds off a corner.
Jaime Ward gives Derby the lead vs Fulham, who have lost all their matches so far. Bolton take the lead at Brighton. Rudy Gestede deflects an effort to put put Blackburn three up vs Bournemouth.
Diego Costa looks a bit heavy for the Premiership.
Forest are 1-0 up over Reading now.
Schurrle Temple heads over a cross from Fab.
Cor - Blackburn have fired themselves into a 3-0 lead over high flying Bournemouth!
Agreed about Diego Costa. He's been eating too many empandas.
Hearts go two up at Raith.
Falkirk take the lead at Hibs.
I'm looking at the Leeds line-up and not liking what I'm seeing. It's last year's scrubs with the addition of a few Italians.
It's so heavy on the Italians that it seems like a Serie A match. Four for us and five for Watford!
Only one Prem goal so far today.
Courtois does well to save from Mayherez then well wide by Jeffrey Schlupp.
Rangers go two up vs Dumbarton.
It doesn't sound like exactly thrilling stuff from Vicarage Road.
Luton pull one back at Accrington Stanley as they trail 2-1.
Not a thriller yet. And not much action in the Premiership.
WAY HAY 1 LEEDS TIE IT UP AT VICAREAGE ROAD THANKS TO AN OG BY GABRIEL TAMAS.
Wahay! We're back in it!!!!
1-1!
Mauro Zarate gives the Hammers the lead at Selhurst Park. The second Prem goal of the day.
It's an o.g. from Tamas that we've benefited from. On the 32nd minute.
Wigan take the lead vs Blackpool.
We're in bloody 20th, though.
The Hammers now go two up at Selhurst Park.
Wigan take the lead against hapless Blackpool. They're bottom of the league and no hope.
A long range effort from Stuart Downing.
Craig Makail-Smith ties it up for Brighton vs Bolton.
I think that was the first away goal of the season for the Whites.
Hey Boys
I am back from practice.
Been very busy with scrimmages for my boys and me still helping out at the high school
Johnny must be pleased and blowing bubbles
Brighton have leveled it against Bolton and the Trotters have dropped into the relegation zone.
Leicester doing well at the Bridge
Morning, UWS - great to have you on board. How's your week been?
Fulham are joining Blackpool in the basemement as their side has been depleted and seven starters are 21 or younger.
Good morning UWS. How have you been?
As I said, very busy
Next week will be just as bad
Need to prep for my class and my new course at the college too
Bob will not be pleased that Not a Big Club have gone two up at the Riverside.
That does sound busy. The students start school on Monday in our area.
Not happy at all.
Luton have awakened from Bedfordshire as they have come from two down to make it Desmond at Accrington Stanley.
Into stoppage time at SB.
Half time at SB
Keep it up Foxes
It's halftime at SB and the Foxes are superbly holding Chelsea 0-0.
