Capital One Cup Quarterfinal Action
It's a fairly busy Tuesday as there are two Capital One Cup quarterfinals kicking off at 245 PM. The main one is Wally in a Brolly's Derby County hosting Chelski. Jose's side won at 0-2 at Pride Park in the FA Cup last season and I would not be surprised to see a similar result this evening. The other quarterfinal is the Evil Blades vs the slumping Saints. The Evil Blades were giant killers last season, making it to the FA Cup semis last season and will fancy their chances of doing the same in this competition as they will feel confident that they can carve apart the opposition. There are also six FA Cup Second Round replays, a JPT match and Real Madrid vs Cruz Azul in a World Club Championship match. It's a really busy evening at a busy time of the year

Afternoon, mate - thanks for getting us going this afternoon. I'm just back from a tedious meeting and looking forward to relaxing with some Capital One action.
Two minutes into the match at Pride Park.
The corner from Fab is headed away by Johnny Russell then a foul by Schurrle Temple on Johnny Russell and booked for that
Good afternoon, Bob. My pleasure.Glad to have you on board. I hope you have a relaxing afternoon.
The team line-ups for this evening's clash:
Derby - Grant, Christie, Keogh, Buxton, Forsyth, Hughes, Mascarell, Bryson, Russell, Martin, Dawkins.
Chelski - Cech, Azpi, Zouma, Terry, Luis, Mikel, Matic, Schurrle, Fabregas, Hazard, Drogs.
Real are one up over Cruz Azul in a FIFA World Club Cup match
I was temporarily pleasantly interrupted by the three guidance counselors who surprised my with a Happy Hannukah poster that they taped to my door. That was very thoughtful
Seems as if Chelski are taking this one reasonably seriously. Not so with BEin who've got a distinctly B-team working the commentary.
Poor cross by Johnny Russell straight to Cech the Czech after a promising possession. They won't get many opportunities against a near full strength Chelski side.
Yes. Jose usually takes cup competitions seriously. As much as we criticize him, we should commend him for that.
Are you students taking their finals? Ours started semester exams today.
Naughty by Craig Bryson on Matic.
Now Jose is whining about it as Matic is getting treatment.
This has to be the best chance of silverware for Southampton this season. They're in poor form but should be able to hold off the Evil Blades today.
Matic limps off for treatment. Jose is risking him in this one against a physical Championship side.
Cambridge are one up at Jayne Mansfield in an FA Cup replay
The match is at Brammall Lane and I think the Evil Blades can carve apart their opposition as they did during the cup run to the semis last season.
Cech gathers at the near post.
Jose may be facing the Rams in the Prem next season, so he better get used to it. I think they are actually one of the better tactical sides in the Championship.
That's true but I can't see them doing anything in the Premiership with a side full of also-rans such as Chris Martin and Richard Keogh.
The crowd is pleased after great defending by Jake Buxton on Drogs.
Probably not, unless Wally makes some good signings this summer, providing they get promoted. They are a good footballing side compared to those recently promoted, so we shall see.
Barnsley take the lead at Chester in the Cup while Real go two up vs Cruz Azul
GOAL! Hazard strikes gold for Chelski!
It came from nothing and at the speed of light. Fabregas to Hazard who jinked inside and lashed a right-footed shot low into the corner.
Chris Martin with a rugby tackle on JT then
GOAL !!! HAZARD GIVES CHELSKI THE LEAD. HE TACKLED RICHARD KEOGH THEN PLAYED A ONE TWO WITH FAB THEN SCORED WITH A GREAT FINISH
The Rams will not survive in the Prem with that type of defending.
Preston take the lead at Notts County in the JPT.
Will Hughes wins a free kick off of Matic.
Horrible free kick by Marcarell , the former Real Academy player.
Lee Grant beats away a shot from Felipe Luiz as the Rams are starting to be battered.
The goals from Real were from Sergio Ramos and Benzema.
I fully expect them to be the Leicester of the 2015/16 Premiership season.
Still 0-0 at Bramall Lane.
Chelski have barely even broken a sweat and look as if they've just about won this match
Unless Bournemouth or Brentford are promoted . Then they would be if not worse.
Richard Keogh does well to intervene in front of Drogs off a nice pass from Schurrle Temple./
Some goals in the Cup:
Rochdale take the lead vs Aldershot while Oxford Shirt do the same at Tranny Rovers
Real are two up at the half vs Cruz Azul.
If Derby are promoted will be they break their record for the fewest ever points in a top flight season?
Schteve McLaren looking rather pensive.
That would be a challenge for them.
Correct. Wally looks like he's in a Brolly.
Any thoughts about your PPP form, mate?
Still 0-0 between Yeovil and Accrington Stanley in the battle to see who will host United in the Third Round.
The Trannies have equalized against the Shirts.
It's really horrible. I'm hoping for luck in the cup competitions.
I guess they're dressed for the occasion.
Derby have the same problem as the newly promoted teams: Lack of quality in the final third.
A rare corner for the Rams.
Drogba heads out the corner from Mascarell for another
A couple of quick corner opportunities for the Rams. They have to take advantage of these.
Johnny Russell to take and it's headed away by JT then Fab fouls Will Hughes.
And now a free kick.
A training ground routine goes horribly wrong, but the Rams win back possession.
Good pressure from Derby at the end of this half.
The best spell of the match as the pass from Dawkins to Hughes is out for a corner., Cech punches away the corner and Zouma is down. Is it Cech mate for him?
Zouma is out for the count after being clobbered by Cech, his own teammate. I hope he's okay . I saw him move his arm. He is being stretchered off and it looks like Ivanovic is warming up.
Wally and Jose sharing laugh as they did in the cup last season.
So far there will be four minutes of stoppage time, but I'm sure it will be more as Zouma has yet to be stretchered off.
Zouma is down for the count. May need to be replaced at the interval.
Branislav Ivanovic coming on.
Zouma is finally stretchered off and applause by both sets of fans as everyone is concerned for his safety. Nice to see Wally concerned as well. Now Ivanovic is on. Play resumes.
I estimate that there will be up to eight minutes of stoppage time.
The Blades and the Saints go in 0-0 at half-time.
It's 0-0 at the half between the Evil Blades and slumping Saints.
That's half-time, Chelski trot in 0-1 up thanks to that Edin Hazard strike.
Chelsea are one up at the half without really getting out of first gear. The main story is if Zouma is okay after being stretchered off.
Monkey Boy has put Real three up vs Cruz Azul.
Luton take the leas vs Bury in the Cup.
The second half is underway
The commentators are Geroge D. Matteos and Gary Bailey.
Schurrle Temple concedes a free kick just outside the box.
Poor free kick from Mascarell that curs straight to Cech.
We're back on for the second half now. Can Derby claw their way back into this one?
Jake Buxton concedes a free kick. An equally poor free kick from Fab.
Really poor free kick from Fab there with all of the big boys up for the set piece.
Welcome back, mate. Did you see that one of the announcers is Gary Bailey? Definitely not a B announcer.
Oh - big chance there for the Rams. Cech came off well there as Hughes shot on goal.
Great run down the right by Johnny Russell and Will Hughes has a shot blocked by Obi Wan for a corner that is headed over by Jake Buxton. The best move of the match for the Rams.
Will Hughes should have done better as I don;t see the Rams getting a better chance than that against a quality side like Chelsea.
Schurrle has a shot blocked for a corner and Drogs is furious about not receiving a pass as he was wide open. The corner was headed away.
Isco has put Real four up vs Cruz Azul.
Drogs is upset at a Derby foul . He needs to realize that cup matches are physical .
GOAL! Felipe Luis with a corker of a free kick to extend Chelski's lead!
2-0!
GOAL !!! FELIPE LUIS PUTS CHELSKI TWO UP WITH A SUPERB FREE KICK BENT LIKE BECKHAM. DEFINITELY TOP DRAWER.
Schteve will complain bitterly after the match about that soft Drogba free kick.
I don't see a way back for Derby County. Same score as when the teams met last season in the FA Cup.
It is a legitimate complaint.
Hard to see the Rams getting back into this one now. Jose knows how to lock the door. I fully expect another defensive middie to be thrown on in a moment or two.
Jordan Ibe on loan from Liverpool, is on for Darryl Dawkins.
Sorry. Simon , not Darryl.
This was a potential banana skin for the Blues but they have to be favorites for this trophy now.
Still 0-0 at Bramall Lane.
Southampton still making heavy weather of the Blades in the other tie tonight.
I would think so. Hard to see anyone left in the competition defeating them, except maybe the Toon.
Another giant killing for the Blades against the slumping Saints?
Drogs down after losing his footing on the pitch
The Evil Blades have taken the lead vs the Saints!
Another Cup semi for the Evil Blades?
Sinan Bolat with the goal for the Evil Blades.
Barnsley go two up at Chester.
Remy on for Drogba. His speed will present a different type of problem for the Rams.
Bugger! Looks like it might be. Southampton are really dropping off in their form.
Aldershot tie it up at Rochdale in the Cup.
GOAL! Derby have pulled one back!
Bryson with a crack from the "D." Game on!
GOAL !!! GAME ON AS CRAIG BRYSON PLAYED THE BALL OUT TO JOHNNY RUSSELL THEN BRYSON GOT IT BACK AND SCORED WITH A GREAT FINISH OFF THE INSIDE OF THE POST.
Rochdale back on top as they now lead Aldershot 2-1 and Tranny now lead Oxford shirt 2-1.
Great run there by Jordan Ibe. Earns a corner.
Ibe is tackled by Azpi for a corner off a strong, determined run.
The corner is headed away then cleared.
Derby growing in confidence here.
Real have defeated Cruz Azul 4-0.
Jeff Hendrick is on for Will Hughes.
Grant did well at the feet of Loic Remy. The ref is consulting with the linesman, though.
Jake Buxton is off! Denying a goalscoring opportunity. Derby down to ten men.
Will Lee Grant be sent off for hand ball outside the box?No. It's will Buxton for denying Remy ma goal scoring opportunity. Is it if Lee Grant was also there? It should have been a yellow, IMHO and now John Moss has basically ruined this match
And now a free kick opportunity. The last one fizzed into the Derby net courtesy of Felipe Luis.
This time it's Schurrle who skies it.
The free kick from Schurrle temple is well over.
Rochdale now lead Aldershot 3-1 while Yeovil take the lead vs Accrington Stanley and are in the driver's seat to play Man United.
Isn't it still a goalscoring opportunity if Remy is in on the goalkeeper one on one? I thought so. The linesman flagged straight away.
The draw for the semis is tomorrow.
GOAL! Schurrle seals it for the Blues.
GOAL !!!1-3 CHELSEA AS SCHURRLE TEMPLE SCORES A REBOUND AFTER LEE GRANT SAVED A SHOT FROM REMY OFF A PASS FROM FAB.
Fabregas the provider again with a slide rule pass to Remy who's shot was parried by Grant and Schurrle mopped it up.
Was he one on one with the keeper? He also had a defender on him, so it seemed harsh, IMHO.
Hazard gets a rest and is replaced by Ramires.
Ramires on for Hazard as Jose shuts up shop.
Leon Best is on for Omar Mascarell.
Rochdale now lead Aldershot 4-1.
Yeovil now lead Accrington Stanley 2-0 and have but sealed a Third Round tie vs United.
I'm just thinking of those situations when there's a breakaway at about half way and a defender brings down a striker and there is no other covering defender around, it's a red even if the keeper is in the goal. That is the striker would be in on goal. That seemed a similar case; that is, Buxton's foul prevented Remy from being in one on one with Grant.
The Blades still leading at Bramall Lane.
I guess it makes it the right decision. I see what you are saying.
Barnsley go three up at Chester.
Southampton are down to ten men; Gardos has seen red. That seems in the bag for The Blades now.
Rochdale have defeated Aldershot 4-1.
It seems that way. The Evil Blades are about to carve their way to another semi.
Tranny have defeated Oxford Shirt 2-1 while Yeovil have defeated Accrington Stanley 2-0 and will face United in the Third Round.
Three minutes of stoppage time.
Let's hope that they get Chelski and run up against the Blue wall.
Some better matches tomorrow, particularly Spurs v. Newcastle. Will you be around for the action?
The Evil Blades are in another semi as they have defeated the Saints 1-0 and claim yet another scalp in another giant killing.
Yes. I will be around tomorrow. I will be happy to chat with you again on my birthday.
Indeed - looking forward to posting a nice birthday message for you on the LOB in the morning.
Barnsley win 0-3 at Chester. Cambridge win 0-1 at Jayne Mansfield while Luton have defeated Bury 1-0. Pne have won 0-1 at Nottts County in the JPT
Oh- Martin should have done better with that headed chance. Didn't get anything on it.
And that's it - Derby with a valiant effort but they came up short. 1-3.
Cheers mate. Thanks.
Brave Derby have lost 1-3 to Chelski.
I'm off home now, mate. Cheerio!
It was great chatting with you and I look forward to doing the same tomorrow. I'm about to head home since my exams are graded and the students leave early doing exams.
CHEERS!
