Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Hello Bob. I will be around fifteen minutes after kickoff. My students are completing a semester exam.
There is Bournemouth vs Liverpool and the Spuds vs the Toon. Which is the better match to watch? A tough choice.
Right then - for some reason the suits at BEin thought that the big match today was Bournemouth v. Pool, so that's what I'm watching.
Afternoon, birthday boy MUR! How's the day going for you?
Here are the teams:
Bournemouth - Boruc, Francis, Elphick, Cargill, Smith, Gosling, O'Kane, Ritchie, Kermogant, Stanislas, Wilson.
Liverpool - Jones, Toure, Skrtel, Lovren, Henderson, Gerrard, Lucas, Markovic, Coutinho, Sterling, Lallana.
This will be a good chance to weigh the quality of another promotion contender.
Oh - big chance there for Bournemouth. Should have been an early goal for the home side. Callum Wilson will want that one back.
Great short corner routine by Pool ends with Lallana trying to set up Gerrard for a blockbuster volley. Blocked out.
Oh - Kolo Toure nods off the line. This is a cracking cup tie so far.
Coutinho is blocked off by Smith, setting up a nice free kick opportunity. Gerrard to loft it in. Nodded away.
The students have left for the day and now I'm joining you at the South Coast
I'm in the middle of loading a dodgy link.
Good pressure now from Liverpool. They're beginning to turn the screw.
Spurs have gone 1-0 up through Bentaleb.
Welcome back, mate. And happy birthday again!
I finally got a link to load so I can follow the action.
GOAL! Raheem Sterling nods home at the second time of asking to put Liverpool in front.
GOAL !!! STERLING HEADS THE POOL INTO THE LEAD.MARKOVIC PUT IN A GREAT CROSS THAT HENDERSON HEADED ON FOR STERLING TO PUT AWAY AT THE FAR POST.
Great move there with Henderson nodding back a cross from Lallana and Sterling finishing in the center forward channel.
I guess I joined just at the right time.
You're correct - it was Markovic who crossed.
Thanks Bob. I have spent all day giving Semester Exams , so this is a welcome break.
Chatting on the LOB is an ideal way to spend a birthday.
There is an Fa Cup replay as Scunny are drawing 0-0 at Worcester City
A similar formation for Pool to the one used on Sunday at OT.
A quick check on the PPP Capital One predictions. Here are the players still in the mix:
Blue Devil - Spurs winning
Gooner71 - Spurs as beaten finalists
Red Devil - Liverpool as winners
Red Dragon - Newcastle as beaten finalists
Someone Said - Spurs as losing finalists
Swansong - Liverpool as losing finalists
UWS - Spurs as losing finalists
Simon - Chelski as winners
Yellows - Liverpool as winners
One can see the gulf in class between the Prem and the Championship as this is all , but a training session against the tam that is top of the Championship.
Lots of people are in this . The Red Dragon will profit if the Toon can win at SFL, which would knock out a lot of people.
GOAL! Markovic makes it 0-2 Liverpool after Boruc had initial saved from Lovren.
GOAL !!! MARKOVIC PUTS POOL UP WITH HIS FIRST GOAL FOR THE CLUB.A NICE BALL WAS PLAYED TO COUTINHO , WHOSE SHOT WAS SAVED AT THE NEAR POST BY bORUC AND MARKOVIC SCORED WITH THE REBOUND FROM THE D IN THE CORNER
OHHHHH! Big chance there for Kermorgant to get one back for the Bees. They really needed that one and he skied it horribly when it was easier to score.
Kermogant misses a sitter for the Cherries seconds after the Pool goal. He should have scored as the Cherries would have been back in this one.
Coutinho again terrorizes the right back and wins a corner.
Coutinho is tackled for a corner.
The corner was well overcooked as the home fans finally have something to cheer about
Bees on the cherry tree? Perhaps.
Liverpool are strolling it about again. The last time they had a spell of that they scored.
Sterling is offside off a long ball.
Poor cross from Junior Stanilaus, the former Hammer. Nice run by Adam Smith, who was economical with his pass.
Pardon me - it's fellow contenders Brentford who are the trees. You're right that Bournemouth are The Bees. My mistake. In any case, these cherries will be baked in a Premiership pie if they get promotion. I don't see them ready for the jump.
Lucas commits a foul on Dan Gosling. Hard to believe that the Cherries had to wait 34 minutes to win their first free kick of the match
Bournemouth are the Cherries and Brentford are the Bees. Both will be cooked if promoted.
Indeed, mate.
Did you open up some good presents this morning? Any special meal on order for this evening?
Liverpool will be taking this seriously as this may be their only chance of silverware and perhaps their only chance of qualifying for Europe.
Gosling has a shot blocked as the Cherries first corner of the match was cleared.
I agree - it's a good opportunity for Liverpool to sneak into Europe through the backdoor next season.
I did not open any presents yet because mornings are usually pretty hectic. I will be opening presents this evening, probably once we come back from wherever we go out to eat.
Boruc did well to rush out and gather from the on rushing Sterling.
I guess you are telling me that a Sterling effort equals silverware,
Sounds nice, mate. Enjoy. I enjoyed the pictures of the first night of Hannukah. It looked like a special gathering, although Elizabeth looked a bit unhappy in the pictures. Did she not get a go at spinning the dreidel?
Brad Jones easily catches a cross from Junior Stanislaus
Thanks Mate. It was a good evening. I don't think Elizabeth was unhappy. I think she was caught by surprise. Did you see the pets opening their gifts? It's a tradition in our household.
Mignolet must be really choked to miss out on a cup quarterfinal. His standing has really fallen off this season.
I did - Fred and Sparky must have really enjoyed the evening.
A dumb foul by Lallana just outside the box.
Into stoppage time. The free kick from Stanislaus is headed out by Skrtel for a corner taken short, but the Cherries lose possession.
Mignolet has been in a slump and was dropped for that reason.
It's halftime as the Pool are two up in a really dominating performance.
Liverpool go in at half-time two goals up and coasting it. The Cherries will have to pull their pits out at half-time to get back into this one.
And Spurs go in 1-0 up at Shite Fart.
The Spuds are still one up vs the Toon and Scunny are still being held 0-0 at Worcester City
Sakho is on for Loveren as the teams head out of the tunnel.
The second half is underway. Will the hungry Red Lion feat on more cherries?
The Cherries are undefeated in a dozen matches. That tells you everything about the gulf in class.
Scunny took the lead at Worcester City on the stroke of halftime.
Stevie G wins a corner off of Tommy Elphick
Skrtel heads wide off the corner.
Chadli has added a second goal for Spurs at Shite Fart Lane. It looks like curtains for the Magpies in this competition. The Red Dragon won't be happy about that.
GOAL! Sterling has sealed the deal with a lovely third goal.
GOAL !!! STERLING HAS A BRACE AS HE PUTS POOL THREE UP.SAKHO PASSED TO LALLANA , WHO PASSED TO STERLING . HE TURNED A DEFENDER TWICE THEN FINISHED NICELY IN THE CORNER PAST BORUC.
Simple stuff from Liverpool. Kolo Toure played it out of the back to Lovren who played a lovely through ball to Sterling. A mazy run later, he fired home with his right peg.
That looked like the Liverpool of last season, but it's easy to look that way against a Championship side.
Ryan Frazier on for Kermorgen and Junior Stanilaus is off as well as Eddie Howe made a double substitution.
Stevie G has a shot blocked for a corner off of Elphick from a pass by Markovic. The corner is headed away
well wide by Coutinho after another Liverpool break
King Kenny up in the stands looking mighty cold this evening.
GOAL! Gosling fires one back for the Cherries! Game on?
GOAL !!! DAN GOSLING PULLS ONE BACK FOR THE CHERRIES. NICE LONG BALL DOWN THE RIGHT. GOSLING COLLECTED THE PASS FROM THE RIGHT, TURNED A DEFENDER THEN SHOT UNDER BRAD JONES.
You, Gooner, Someone , and UWS picked the Spuds. Someone and UWS wilbe happy, but I'm not sure about you or the Gooner.
Liam O' Kane heads out a free kick from Stevie G for a corner.
Sakho heads harmlessly wide off the corner.
That goal by Gosling was the Cherries first shot on target . Brad Jones didn't look too clever on that goal.
Good to see the Championship side at least giving it a go.
Headed just wide by Ryan Frazier as Brad Jones was completely beaten. Great work by Matt Ritchie and great cross by Simon Francis.
Big appeal by Bournemouth for a penalty. At first look, I thought Sakho had gotten all ball but I'm not so sure now.
I agree. The Cherries have looked more like a promotion chasing side in the second half.
Harry Kane has wrapped it up for Spurs with a third goal.
I think the player went down too easily. It looked a weak case.
OH - Sterling had a chance to wrap up his hat-trick and surely the match but he fluffed his lines.
Sterling slices horribly wide with a wide open goal. He should have had a hat-trick. Great football by Liverpool.
A certain student at C State will not be pleased, but his dad and two Dahlgrens will.
Naughty by Henderson on Ryan Frazier.
OHHHH! Off the Sunday roast for Bournemouth. They are definitely knocking at the door and giving the punters their money's worth.
OH!! off the post by Dan Gosling then Ritchie is crowded out then Ritchie got the ball back and shot wide.
I agree. Bournemouth have looked like the side leading the Championship with their second half performance.
They have improved this half, for sure.
Another corner for the Cherries and they shoot high and Arter shoots high and wide off the short corner.
Blimey - even Soldado has got on the scoresheet. Spurs running riot over Newcastle this evening. 4-0!
If the second half performance is typical of the Cherries then I give them a better chance of surviving than the Rams.
That match is BEIN showed this evening . I will have to watch as part of the birthday festivities.
Emre Can is on for Coutinho. Will he dance his way around the Cherries?
I heard that it's a raw, nasty day in your area . I hope your staying warm and cozy.
Sounds like a plan, mate.
It really is - we like to call it a "wintry mix," a bit of rain mixed in with sleet and hale.
I remember those days at Lakenheath. That's no fun at all. It's overcast here , but in the 70s here. Not bad birthday weather.
Into the last quarter of a hour at Bournemouth now.
That doesn't sound too bad. Where are you headed out for dinner tonight?
An upset brewing in the Cup as Worcester City tie it up vs Scunny. An upset in the steak sauce county?
We were thinking of Denny's, but I'm thinking of changing my mind.
Worcester City sounds like Worcestershire Sauce. A dinner plan brewing in the back of my head?
Pittman on for Liam O'Kane as it's the final roll of the dice from young Eddie Howe.
Sounds like it - perhaps that steak house that you took us to when we were in town?
Lallana has a pass intended for Stevie G cut out by Cargill for a corner.
Hand ball by Stevie G off the corner.
I was thinking of that, but we went there a few weeks ago for our anniversary. I'm still undecided.
Nice hit by Sterling but it's well over the bar. Gerrard has a rest.
Emre Can concedes a free kick near the box. The free kick from Matt Ritchie is too high, but a return cross is headed straight to Brad Jones by Cargill
Borini on for Stevie G
Three minutes of stoppage time.
A possibility of ET in Worcestershire.
Brad Jones saves easily from Matt Ritchie.
Liverpool just playing out the time now. Comfortable win for them in the end.
I heard that Leeds at Forest is the late match on Staurday
It's over as it's a comfortable 1-3 win for Liverpool at Dean Court as they are in the semis.
They are joined by the Spuds, who have thrashed the Toon 4-0
And that's that. Two solid wins for Liverpool and Spurs and their Capital One Cup dream goes on.
So it's Chelski, The Evil Blades, Spurs and Liverpool into the draw for the Semi Finals. Guess who everyone will want to get?
I guess they want to sample some nice cutlery
That's it for me, too, mate. Enjoy your birthday evening tonight and I'll catch up with you soon.
I heard that the draw is supposed to be today or have they already had the draw?
Thanks Bob.Chatting with you is a great way to spend a birthday. Cheers, mate.
The Semi Final Draw
Liverpool vs Chelsea
Tottenham vs Sheffield United
