The Big One!
We've suffered through one of the more turgid weekends of domestic football that I can remember only to finally come to the big one - Arsenal v. United - on a bloody Monday afternoon. Those on the other side of The Pond will be able to feet up with some fish and chips and a pint while this is on but for those of here in the colonies, we're right up against a busy work afternoon. Hence, I'll be sneaking a peek at the beginning of this match before running down to my 4:30 class. May the best side win!

Good afternoon, Bob. I will be around for the last thirty minutes
It's 0-0 eighteen minutes in. why not? Not a single first half goal has been scored ion this round
The Gunners take the lead . Ozil Passed to Ox, who weaved his way through the United defense. He passed to Nacho, who beat De Gea at the near post.
GOAL !!!! Roon heads in the equalizer
I'm just back from setting up my class for tonight and see that Nacho has notched Arsenal's opening goal in the 25th minute.
365 comments: "Arsenal take the lead through an unlikely source as Monreal scores just his second goal for the club! Oxlade-Chamberlain shows good footwork on the edge of the box to get away from a few tackles and then pass it through for Monreal, who shows good composure to beat De Gea and send the 9,000 visiting fans wild."
Hold the presses - Rooney has just scored a mere three minutes later!
UWS will be pleased that Di Maria put in a quality cross that was headed in by Roon. The possession started with a pass by Valencia to Di Maria.
365 comments: "Well, that didn't take long, did it? Di Maria cuts in from the left flank and whips in a lovely ball that Rooney heads past the keeper to make it 1-1. That really was a great cross from Di Maria."
It's 1-1 at the end of an interesting first half. So far, this has been the best of the quarters
LVG is making a double substitution . WTF!!! Why is Phil Bloody Jones coming on? We'd be better off with Davey Jones.
The second half is underway
It appears that Carrick is on for Ander Herrera. I'm not sure who Jones replaced.
Jones came on for Luke Shaw. Talking about going from bad to worse. Jones won't exactly Shaw up the defense./
The Gooner will not be pleased that the Ox came off injured. He was replaced by Ramsey.
GOAL !!! WELLIE PUTS THE GUNNERS IN FRONT ON HIS RETURN TO OT!
United couldn't deal with a long ball. Phil Jones chested a pass to Valencia when a pass forward was a better option. Bloody Valencia was guilty of a horror back pass and Wellie nipped in front of de Gea, rounded him, and easily tapped into an empty net
Prior to the goal, United were getting so many cards , one would have thought it was a holiday as Hair Bear, Yashley , and Rojo have been booked.
OH!!! Smalling blasts over from three yards out off a corner that looked like something from the training ground as Jones and Roon let the corner run on to Smalling
Callum Chambers is on for Bellerin. That gives me hope.
There's that hope as Yashley skips past Chambers and crosses for Hair Bear, whose header is easily saved by Su Su Sudio.
SO, three cards and that gift wrapped present from Valencia to wellie. Is there a birthday today?
Valencia continues the stupidity, fouling Alexis about a yard outside the corner of the box.
The free kick bounces straight to De Gea.
The final roll of the dice for LVG and an attacking change as Jan is on for Rojo. Wellie , who has scored what could be the winning goal on his return to OT, is replaced by Giroud.
De Gea keeps United in the Cup as he spectacularly claws out a volley from Caz.
BOODY HELL !!! UNITED ARE DOWN TO TEN MEN AS DI MARIA HAS BEEN SENT OFF. I think he got himself stupidly sent off for pushing the ref. What was he thinking. I don't see a way back for United now.
United will need to usher in Desmond a man down with about a quarter of an hour remaining.
It looked like a mere tap to the back of someone's head, not the ref's.He barely touched the player, but you just can't do that nowadays.
Nacho is called for a trip on Jones about a yard outside the box.
A waste as it's a bloody useless free kick by Roon. High and wide.
Jan is booked for a dive after getting past Nacho. The replay showed that was the correct decision. Poor by Jan
Ramsey is booked for a foul on Yashley.
Great sweeper keeping by De Gea as the Gunners beta the offside trap. Five minutes of stoppage time.
PHEW!!! Alexis misses a sitter as he played a one two with Ozil on the break then shot just wide with just De Gea to beat
That should do it as a shocking cross from Jones goes out of play. It does as the Gunners are through to the semis, winning 1-2 at OT
United were up against it once Di Maria was sent off for pushing the ref. A poor back pass from Valencia gifted Wellie the winner at OT
The draw for the semis is in a few minutes, but I'm off to head home. I'll check then on a really disappointing afternoon.
The draw for the semis was made shortly after the match. The matches are as follows:
The Reading Railroad or Bradford City vs the Gunners
Aston Vanilla vs Liverpool or Blackburn
Both semis will be played the weekend of the 18th and 19th of April at wembuhlay.
Those who picked a Liverpool vs Arsenal final are likely to be spot on as those are the two favorites to lift the cup.
Gooner may be interested to note that the Gunners played both possible opponents in the Capital One Cup two years ago. The Gunners won a wild one at Reading 5-7 in extra time while losing in a penalty shootout to Bradford City later in the competition. I believe that the Gunners will be in the final for the second consecutive year.
