FA Cup Quarter Final Sunday!
Morning, chaps - and a happy Spring Forward Day to you all. We've got two Cup matches on tap this morning. First up is the Arse v. Watford at the Emirates. Then at noon is the big 'un between United and West Ham. At the same time there is a rubbishy Premiership match between Spurs and Villa. Join me for all the action here at the LOB.

Here are the teams in the tunnel at the Em:
Arsenal 4-2-3-1: Ospina; Chambers, Mertesacker, Gabriel, Gibbs; Coquelin, Elneny; Campbell, Özil, Sánchez; Giroud
Subs: Macey, Bellerín, Monreal, Flamini, Iwobi, Walcott, Welbeck
Watford 4-2-3-1: Gomes; Nyom, Prödl, Cathcart, Ake; Watson, Behrami; Capoue, Deeney, Guedioura; Ighalo
Subs: Pantilimon, Anya, Suarez, Abdi, Jurado, Amrabat, Oulare.
Referee: Andre Marriner
4-2-3-1 - it's the favorite line-up of all modern managers (sigh)....
Good morning mate. Happy Spring Forward Day.
I agree and that's what drives UWS bonkers.
Morning, MUR - how are you mate?
Kate has a trivia question for you this morning:
How many English managers are there in the Premiership? Name them and their clubs.
And we're off from the Emirates, Arsenal in their traditional kits and Watford in a dark blue number.
Morning boys
You are right David
Modern day football...bloody hell
I'm on my phone instead of desktop
I don't want to be in the kitchen
Fast start from the Arse
Ake has lost his boot - having some difficulty getting it back on.
Good morning ,UWS. Happy Spring Forward Day. I'm doing well . Thanks for asking. How is everyone.
Morning, UWS - yeah, I'm fed up with the 4-2-3-1 formation. Everyone uses it and it means that you lose at least two players in the attack from the 4-4-2 formation.
The 4-4-2 may be supposedly inefficient, but it's more entertaining to watch
Tony Pulis WBA
Eddie Howe Bournemouth
Alan Pardew CP
Fat Sam Sunderland
Only Four!!!
Kate says, "Correct!" Well done, mate. It is a sad comment, isn't it.
I hate the two holding midfielder talk crap
England talk about it when their opponents are Moldova!!!
Ball in the net
Yellow flag in the air
Giroud wheels away thinking he's scored but he's flagged offside. I think he was on but the other bloke was off.
GOAL !!!! Np it's not. Nice through ball, but Giroud is flagged offside. He looked level in the replay. Gooner and Simon will not be pleased.
Has Kate studied up on her shades of blue shirts of the Premier League?
Something needs to be done to improve the quality of English managers. Otherwise, the national team will start to have foreign managers once Woy steps down
She should be studying the new trend of various shades of lime green away kits.
Kate is incensed that there are so few English managers in the Premiership. "It's England!" she says.
I think it is fair to add
Mark Hughes and Alex Neil on the list
British managers have always been around
Shanks Busby Fergie
6/20
30%
Still sucks
I agree with Kate. The FA needs to do something to have more qualified English managers. They have overlooked that
Nice shot at Kate, mate. LOL!
By the way, update on the Man Citeh bandwagoner in Kate's class. Kate watched the League Cup Final with me and then was excited to talk about the penalty shootout with him the next day. She brought it up and....he slept through the final! She said, "It was at noon!"
If the Toon, Villa ,a nd Canaries get relegated then that will be three non English managers . If Burnley and Hull City are promoted then they will have Sean Dyche and Brucey, so that will at least increase the number to six. Baby steps.
Yikes! The modern day college student!
Just a reminder that there are two Championship matches and a Prem match as well.
Great slide tackle by Ake to prevent a clear opportunity for the Gunners
Campbell might have done better there to attack that cross from Kieran Gibbs - Ake dived in to save his side.
British managers is good enough for me
As for the national team , should be the same rule as there is for players
Must be your nation
A poor cross from Alexis to ruin a great possession
Kathy has always been disgusted that the manger of England isn't English
Some countries would be in great trouble due to their dependence on foreign managers
That cross from Chambers was absolute Pants as he was superbly put through down the right and basically passed to the giant Transylvanian keeper.
Woy is English, but two of his predecessors were not.
Did you get my text about the 1995 semi finalists
Of course Woy is English
She was complaining from the off with Sven and Fabio
Ighalho blew a great opportunity to lay a pass on a plate for Deeney to tuck away after being superbly sent through by former Spud, Capoue.
Watford had a chance there
Poor decision making there
They created a lot of chances at OT
That trend will continue because I don't see any English managers ready to take charge of the national team.
Sorry. I did not, but I have one downloading. It must be that one.
That was naughty from Gabriel - studs up. Should have been a yellow or worse.
That wasn't a nice tackle
Sort of jumped in
Not even a card?
Nasty foul by Gabriel on Deeney, who was down for a while. I'm suprised a card was not issued.
Cahmbers wins a corner off of Capoue.
OH!!! El Nenny did walk like an Egyptian as he was superbly put through , but blasted high and wide. That should have been the lead for the Gunners
Chelsea slayers, PSG, could win the title already today
Playing away... Scored in 13, 17 and 19 th minutes
Just as bad as Spain
A tad naughty by Campbell on Behrami. Agaim, I'm surpised there wasn't even a booking
What are your thoughts about the last quarter final?
I'm not confident at all except for LVG's Houdini type qualities
PSG had their first league loss in a year a fortnight ago. That says it all./
I expect United to get Hammered today
It's 0-0 at the half between the Wolves and the Brummies
I thought that was a great tackle by Prodl on Ozil. Never a pen
Everton v. Chelsea? I'm glad that Everton won it. But that match had the only two goals of the weekend for the games I've watched. I'm a bit goal starved.
Crazy stuff going on in the northeast and I'm not talking Rafa
Boro manager not allowed to manage today cuz of a bust up at training
Downing was involved
Is it something in the water up there?
Does anyone know when the draw for the semis occurs?
A goal must be coming
I have to go to the loo
Giroud with a nasty elbow on Prodl there. I suppose Prodl deserves it for that egregious man bun.
The Northeast has been a crazy area for as long as I can remember.
Draw is tomorrow
Another nasty one from Gabriel. He's begging to get sent off today.
I guess a goal is due soon since UWS will be in the loo. There hasn't been a first half goal in the quarters up to this point. All late goals.
Thanks, UWS.
I don't get the situation with Karanka - what's going on there? I thought Boro were a cinch for promotion.
You could have seen up to eight goals in the 10 AM matches yesterday and some good ones at that
I might need to go to the loo as well - does that mean two goals are coming?
I'm not sure, but the owner's nephew is the starting left back, so I'm sure he taddled to his uncle and exaggerated a tad.
I know - I don't know why I picked that time to do some tree pruning. The match-ups just didn't appeal. Stoke and Southampton? Bleh!
It could be. Might be a perfect time, mate
Last time a team won the Cup three times in a row was back in the 80s... The 1880s!!!
Blackburn Rovers.... Who btw was the last team to beat the Arsenal in the Cup
This one has been a crashing bore so far. Apologies to Gooner and Dad, but then, they're not here are they?
Both were decent matches and the Cherries made it over the finish line. I didn't see that coming in August.
Elneney has had two of the best chances and he's shanked both of them well over the bar. That's the problem with loading up your team with defensive players, Arsene.
I think the answer to your question is also Blackburn.
Two goals?
Well I'm going #2
I know
Tmi
He's definitely not walking like an Egyptian.
Oh - Campbell with a big chance but he popped it over the bar. Don't these blokes want to score?
Definitely , UWS. I thought you were , though
I guess that sentence didn't come out right
I was stating a fact not asking the question
But well done anyway
Pants booked for time wasting. A stupid one to pick up so early on. Agreed that it was a horrible miss by Campbell.
Are you going #2 while you're blogging, mate? That would be a first on the LOB, I think.
Why would you waste time in the first half of a Cup tie? That makes no sense at all.
Thanks, UWS. Also, the only lower division team to defeat the Gunners in the Cup under Wenger's reign.,
Alexis nearly connects with that Ozil free kick - another chance goes begging.
OH!!! Nice free kick from Ozil, but Alexis just failed to make contact
This is similar to the match when Blackburn knocked the Gunners out of the Cup
Two minutes of stoppage time.
It looks like 0-0 at the half for three of the quarterfinals.
They struggled against Burnley at the Em in an earlier round
That's half-time, then. 0-0 (sigh)....
Arsenal may rue those missed chances. Watford haven't offered much up front but they may get more adventurous in the second half.
It's 0-0 at the half thanks to some missed sitters by the Gunners
Well LVG will do their part with another nil on their scoreboard
The hammers may not have read the script
PSG is half a dozen up in the second half.
I have moved to matt's laptop instead of my home a half time
Hope it will be easier than the phone
now PSG have seven!!
The Hornets, by the way, haven't scored for 350 minutes - and that was an own goal scored by a Leeds player in the last round of the cup. They've lost their sting.
sorry for bring that up Bob
Arsenal about to get us ready for the second half, now.
we are off for the second half
The second half is underway
A statement of intent that PSG are thirsty for that French title.
Arsenal definitely don't want a replay at Vicarage on their already busy schedule. They have to push on here.
Gibbs wins a corner off of Nyom.
Not sure if it is official or not for PSG to win the league but I don't think Troyes will make it back... ITS 0-8!!!
Still fifteen minutes to go
Giroud heads inches over from the corner from Ozil
Their goal difference is +61
The next best in the division is 4th place Lyon +14
That's alright, mate. I know you meant to say "an own goal by a Manchester United youth product."
They won't be that busy...they'll only have the Cup and League
Busy shmisy
Yes. Eight is more than enough!
Arsenal will still need a goal when he takes off Joel Hunter... I mean Joel Campbell
Agreed. I'm not sure what's keeping them so busy
GOAL... TO THE HORNETS!!!
GOAL! Ighalo has put the Hornets in front!
Last time Watford made the semis... 2007... beaten by United...im just saying
GOAL !!! Ighalo gives the hornets the lead against the run of play
Really poor from Gabriel allowing Watford's top scorer to turn him in the area.
0-1!
That's true, UWS. I remember that because Ben Foster was on loan from United and couldn't play in the semis.
Things are falling into place for LVG... is he going to ride his luck or fail miserably
Watford are starting to threaten like they did at OT
They should have scored at least four that game
Liverpool could have scored at least 6... and I am saying United could win today???
If you lot win the Cup this season - my PPP prediction, btw, will that be good enough for the season?
Really poor defending from the Gunners. Deeney was allowed to beat Merte to head on a long throw from Nathan Ake and really poor from Gabriel , allowing Ighalo too much time to turn and pick his spot.
El Neny straight at Pants from long range
Troyes down by 8 goals and down by 1 man.... The ref better not add one extra second at the end
The Hornets break their scoring duck and it was the player you would have expected to have done so.
Zlatan with a hat-trick and Cavani with two. Eight is enough
I don't want to diminish the FA Cup in any way whatsoever
An FA Cup win would be brilliant...we haven't won since 2004
BUT NOTHING will make up for the performances this season
NOT BLOODY GOOD ENOUGH
I wouldn't care if we didn't win anything but played like Leicester City or the Liverpool of a few years back
Or the UNITED way of old
Why are they showing the other FA Cup scores now? Fox are so weird with their coverage. At half time, they started playing their stupid theme song while Stuart Holden was trying to make a point.
The goal from Ighalo was the earliest scored in a cup quarterfinal this year
Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott warming up - what is Arsene waiting for? He needs two bloody goals!
What I also hate about FOX is if I watch I match in the evening that was played earlier in the day and they show the final score of that match tow minutes in? That's why I'm watching the bloody match. I don;t want to know the score.
They had the B team out yesterday for FS2... Rob Stone was doing the Big East basketball!!
Why can't NBC get the Cup too
Fox don't care and NBC could easily do both!
I am so worried about Fox's coverage of the World Cup in Russia
That is a sad comment, MUR. Very sad.
Good point, Bob. Cursing in the streets of Alex and Bethesda?
I wish NBC would grab the rights back. Fox are tragic.
Oh - Ighalo nearly on the end on another chance. He is dangerous.
OH!!! Ighalo just fails to connect on a superb pass from Ake on the break. That could have been curtains for the Gunners
Almost a second for the Hornets
What the bloody hell is Chambers doing at the top of the box on the end of that chance?!
Arsenal are Total Football run amok!
I agree . FOX's coverage is probably more low budget than the coverage in Kazakhstan or Kyrgystan
Zlat has scored his fourth and PSG's 9th
PSG are Champs
Yikes. Zlatan has a fourth as PSG are naughty nines up at Troyes. A record away win for the Parisians? That's a final.
WHAT A GOAL!!
TWO NIL
GOAL! What a strike!!!!!
Watford are in dreamland!
GOAL!!! GUEDIORA PUTS THE HORNETS TWO UP AT THE EM AND SURELY IN THE SEMIS
Arsenal are looking down the barrel of the same week that Chelski had last week. Out in the Cup here and out in the CL at Barcelona.
It was a laser like effort in the upper 90 from Guediora. It started when Ben Watson when a tackle in Midfield. His long ball was chested down by Ighalo to Deeney , who laid it off for Guediora to score that fantastic goa.l
Great defending from Cathcart on Giroud off a cross from Chambers. Giroud heads wide from the corner.
Told you Joel Hunter would come off
Arsene finally rouses himself to make three changes. Walcott, Welbeck and some other bloke coming on. Campbell, Giroud and someone else off. I'll bet Coq au Vin and Elneny are still on.
Yeah - it's a straight swap then. Ridiculous - you're chasing the match, Arsene!
Wellie and Theo on for Campbell and Giroud as the Gooners go with a new front two,.
Okay, Elneny did come off. Still - the others were straight swaps.
Iwobi was the third sub on, but I'm not sure who came off.
Thanks for straightening that out, Bob. Iwobi was on for el Neny.
UWS will be pleased to hear that the last ditch tackle from Cathcart was straight from the MUFC Academy/
Alexis wins a corner off of Nathan Ake.
Anya is on for Capoue.
Just got off the phone from a mate asking me to go down to Yankee Stadium of a NYFC game... too late of notice
We'll go down during the summer
This is a bad result for most in the PPP:
Gooner, Swansong, WHR, Simon - Arsenal to win the Cup
Blue Devil - Arsenal as losing finalists.
The last time the Cherries beat United before this season was in 1984. That was the Hornets only ever cup final. A sign that they will be in the cup final this year? Just saying
Watford must not concede non matte how late it is
If the Arse score, the will score again or go VERY close
This is not over
You lot have a real chance at winning the Cup now with Reading, Everton and now Watford all in the semis.
Also, a bad result for UWS, Yours Truly , and Tom yesterday, but great for Someone.
Nice just saying David
Abdi on for Guiediora to plug up any gaps in midfield.
Just like when we last won the Cup
We had to beat Millwall... we did beat the Arse in the semis
Ta, Dave. How is this for fate? Nathan Ake is on loan from Chelsea, but may be playing in a Cup Final instead of the supposed superstars keeping him out of the side. Just saying.
We won't have to worry about that this year
BLOODY HELL
FELAINI IS STARTING
Wolves and Brum ended scoeless
It finished 0-0 at Molineaux between the Wolves and Brummies. Sounds like a real W. Midlands Classic
That was a great chance to get the Gunners back in this match . Gibbs with a free header straight to Pants.
Ighalho limps off injured to the disdain of Gabriel and is replaced by Amarabat, who spent more time complaining in the loss to the Foxes than playing.
Oh - Chambers on the end of another chance - well wide.
Any thoughts on my comment posted at 11:06?
Great run and pass by Alexis to Chambers, who passes to absolutely nobody except for perhaps a ghost
De Gea
Varela
Smalling
BLind
Rojo
Carrick
Fellaini
Rashford- on the left wing like at Anfield?
Herrera
Lingard
Martial
Just like the other two quarters, it was 0-0 at the half and 2-0 in the second half. The same at OT?
BLOODY HELL! Isn't that the same lineup that produced that shower of a performance at Anfield?
Very true about the Chelsea old guard
Would Jose do the same at OT
News in paper today that Blanc may leave PSG for OT
Except for Herrera replaced the banned Mata
My condolences to Gooner, Simon ,and dad, who have not had a great start to Spring forward. Sorry lads, but you have to take your chances.
Spurs blew it against Dortmund midweek
They should have played their weaker line up today at Villa Park and not in Germany
Nearly into stoppage time - this one's over.
I actually like that change. Also, Larry White would be a much better choice than Jose.
Well, then. Welbeck gets one back!!
Game on?
GOAL !!! WELLIE PULLS ONE BACK FOR THE GUNNERS . CUP TIE ON./
Still not over
One goal and it would squeaky bum time
There it is
Four added minutes
That's silly - Watford just thump it out to touch. It's not rugger, lads.
OH - what a miss from Welly!
I can definitely see Arsenal scoring again
HOW DID THAT NOT GO IN!!!!
Oh - Welbeck was in there again. Why wasn't he put on earlier?
This is what United used to do
This year, they would be passing around with De Gea
Another chance by Wellie
Why do teams just sit back
Arsenal look like scoring every time they go forward
Four minutes of stoppage time as Iwobi had a shot come off the post then Gibbs set up wellie,. who shot over with a wide open goal. It should have been Desmond
Iwobi tires one but it's deflected out for a corner.
