That's so Spursy!
If things had gone differently on Monday night, Spurs would be kicking off against the Saints this afternoon with a chance of winning their first title since the 60s. As it is, the two big matches today are all about Champions League slots rather than titles. Oh - and Liverpool are playing Watford as well. Join me for all the fun, eh?

The team news out of North London today:
Tottenham: Lloris; Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Dier, Mason; Lamela, Eriksen, Son; Kane
Subs: Vorm, Davies, Wimmer, Carroll, Chadli, Winks, Clinton
Southampton: Forster; Martina, Van Dijk, Fonte, Bertrand; Wanyama, Clasie; Mané, Davis, Tadic; Long
Subs: Stekelenburg, Soares, Yoshida, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Pellè, Austin
Jon Moss blows his whistle and Spurs kick us off. The home side are in traditional white shirts with blue shorts, while Southampton are decked out in red and white stripes.
Spurs have started brightly. Lamela drives in off the right flank but runs into a cul-de-sac and Southampton shuffle the ball away for a throw.
Oh - Erikssen connected with a Danny Rose cross there - Foster saved well.
Good morning mate. I'm here to join you for a Spursy match where Pochi faces his former club
OH!!! Mane put through Tadic , who shot wide from a Narrow angle. He could have picked out Steven David , who had an easy tap in
Celtic is three up vs Aberdeen , who are a distant second. It's a meaningless match
Morning, MUR - Happy Mother's Day to you and yours. I enjoyed the photo that you posted on FB.
A full schedule of L1 matches on a warm and sunny weekend in BLighty , which is a change in what has been a really cold and rainy Spring
Mane is fresh off that hat-trick at St. Mary's last weekend; he's the danger man.
GOAL !!! NUMBER ONE SON GIVES THE SPUDS THE LEAD.
It was a really simple goal that was definitely not SPursy. Alderweireld played a long ball half the length of the field and found Son, who played a one two with Lamela. Kane was in an offside position, but in active . Number One Son rounded Forster and two defenders before blasting in from a yard out
Thanks mate. Happy Mother's Day to you and the Gooner
Just persistence there from Number One Son on the goal - his mother would be proud on Mother's Day.
It's kind of a difficult day based on my mother's recent passing . I somehow found this photo when I went through the albums a few evenings ago.
Kane scoops an effort high and wide from close range
Yes, difficult for us, too. Our memories aren't as fresh but I still think about that awful summer in London in 2012. I hope that the footer gives you a little peace today.
WOW! Celtic were three up vs Aberdeen , who have scored two quick goals to pull it back to 3-2.
It will . I hope the same for you and the Gooner. I won't be around for the late match because the girls and I are going to Elizabeth's parents for Mother's Day
Forster easily savers from Eriksen after Kane headed down a long diagonal to Lamela, who found Eriksen
Then Kane shoots wide off a solo run as the SPursy team is running rampant.
The Saints have a corner.Ryan Bertrand to take as LLoris fists away for another.
Actually, a throw to the Saints.
GOAL !!!! HOW SPURSY AS STEVEN DAVIS TIES IT UP FOR THE SAINTS.
GOAL! A rather Spursy goal conceded there. Davis with the tap in.
Kyle Walker was injured in that move that produced the goal - Soton played on and scored.
1-1!
It sounds like you've got a nice day planned.
It was very Spursy as Lloris took a long free kick that the Saints headed back in midfield. Martina played Tadic down the right and his first time pass was put away by Steven Davis from close range under the dive of Lloris
It's a busy day because I have to come back and tutor this evening. How about you and Kate?
Some key results in L!. Fleetwood Mac two up vs a;ready relegated Crewe. That result would mean relegation for Donny and the Tangerines.Barnsley 1-3 up at table topping Wigan , which means that the Gils would miss out on that last playoff spot. It's Donny 0 Richard Burton 0, which would promote the tiny club to the Championship for the first time ahead of Wlasall, who are five up at Port Vale.
The playoff bound Evil Lions take the lead at the Gils, whose fate seems to be sealed.
Barnsley now 1-4 up at wigan. The champs seem to be starting their summer holiday
Walker is still limping a bit but he earns a corner with a blast.
Kyle Walker has a long range effort blocked for a corner off a corner.
Posh lead the doomed Tangerines 3-1
Really - Blackpool could drop into L2? Wow! Not too long ago they were gracing the Premiership.
It's really sad story. A happier story is that Richard Burton look to be visiting ER next season
That will be interesting. Burton is the closest footie team to my parents' old fat in West Hampstead, just slightly closer than Loftus Road and QPR.
The real kick in the teeth for the Tangerines is that their local rivals, Teeny tiny Fleetwood will survive at their expense and are getting the result that sends them down
Sorry mate. I think Burton is on the Staffordshire - Derbyshire line about twenty five miles east of Stoke.
Ryan Mason clears for a corner off a nice one two between Davis and Tadic
I must be thinking of another side, then.
Posh now lead the Tangerines 4-1 on what is a really rotten day for the once proud club
OH!!! How did Harry Kane not score. He brushed aside Fonte off a long ball then a magnificent block from close range by Forster
Half-time arrives, then, and my initial post seems to be prescient. Spurs flattered to deceive coming out strong in the initial period and then gave up the impetus to Soton.
1-1 at the interval.
Posh now thrashing the Tangerines 5-1
It is 1-1 in a really interesting contest
The second half is underway from SFL.
Back on at Shite Fart Lane - The Saints get us underway in this second half.
There will be a water break midway through the second half. Is it really that hot?
The matches have concluded in L1. Wigan go up as champs despite being thrashed 1-4 at home to Barnsley. Congratulations to Richard Burton , who have been promoted to the Championship for the first time in their history. Donny and the Tangerines were relegated along with Colchester and Crewe.
The playoffs:
Walsall vs Barnsley and The Evil Lions vs Bradford City.
Scunny will not be pleased . They won 0-2 at Bramall Lane , but were pipped to that last playoff spot on goal difference by Barnsley, who benefitted from Wigan starting an early summer vacation.
I can't believe that it's that hot - hot by North London standards, perhaps.
I'll take Walsall and Bradford from those two pairings.
I just checked. It's 78 degrees in London, which is a drastic change. It had been a wintry Spring up until a couple of days ago then it goes to the other extreme.
I think I would too, mate
That's definitely London Hot.
Braintree kickoff the second the second leg of a playoff semi at home to Grimsby having won 0-1 away to Grimsby in midweek. Forest green Rovers drew 1-1 vs Dover in the other semi yesterday to go through to a Wembley Final 2-1 on agg. Cheltenham made an immediate return to the Football League as runaway champs.
Busy making breakie for Kathy on Mum's Day
French Toast
YUMMY
COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!
Of course, City visit Wales next weekend.. The Swans have beaten Liverpool and West Ham in their last two outings... not an easy task
Talk to you later
Kane tries one from distance - screwed well wide. He's feeling frustrated with Vardy and Aguero on his heels.
Agreed. That would be considered warm even in midsummer. I guess the water break makes sense considering the players have been playing in wintry conditions.
Well in, UWS - Happy Mother's Day to Kathy.
I second that. Great job. Happy Mum's Day to Kathy
Now Kane is offside.
Fonte heads away a cross from Eriksen for a Spuds corner.
Vertonghen has a header headed off the line from Van Dijjck from the corner.
Pelle is on for Mane. Gee oh Gee . Clinton Njie is on for goal scorer, Number One Son
Kyle Walker has a shot blocked for a corner. Ryan Mason commits a foul as the Saints attempted to clear the corner.
Now ta water break as it's hot by London standards.
We've reached the water break. I suspect that this would be a mild day in Harlingen.
Play resumes.
It would be this time of year for sure, but I imagine one would be needed in Fred Town
GOAL! Soton lead at Shite Fart! Davis with a brace!
GOAL !!!! STEVEN DAVIS SCORES WITH A LONG RANGE EFFORT IN THE CORNER . A SOFT SHOT , BUT OUT OF THE REACH OF LLORIS
This match should have been a home celebration of Spurs' accomplishments this season. Someone should have told the Saints.
78F is a touch hot for my taste. I like it between 65-75F.
A great goal by the Saints , but definitely preventable as it started with a throw. Long , Pelle ,ans Tadic combined . Davis got the ball and the Spuds defense backed off as Davis was allowed time to dribble in and pick out his spot. The Saints now lead 1-2
Van Dijjck fouls Lamela just outside the Saints box.
The free kick from Lamela is over.
The Saints move up to sixth ahead of the Hammers while the Gunners can be level on points with the Spuds if they win at the Etihad and this result holds.
That might be hugely significant goal. As it stands Southampton would leap above West Ham and climb to sixth in the league, while Spurs would let Arsenal back into the conversation for second place.
Agreed. It's been a letdown for the home fans. Also it also seems hot by Fred Town standards.
An attacking switch as Chadli is on for Mason.
Romeu has a boxer's cut over the eye.
Now Romeu is off for treatment due to a gash near his eye,.
Kane goes over in the box - nothing doing from the ref.
Harry Kane goes down ,looking for a penalty. Nothing doing. Then play goes up the other end of the pitch and Shane Long is booked after a collision with Lloris
Dier heads well wide from a cross by Kyle Walker.
Shane Long shoots high and wide as a goal kick was headed on by Pelle.
JWP is on for Tadic.
Lamela has a cross headed out for a corner.
Danny Rose and Shane Long wishing each other a Happy Mother's Day there.
A flash point between Danny Rose and Shane Long. It looks like Long has been a thorn in his side.
That could very well be true , but the Mother's Day roses have thorns.
The Saints just wasting a bit of time.
Indeed. The Spurs players are rather arsed off about this outing.
Five minutes of stoppage time.
They could be arsed off after the late match
Exactly - this opens the door for their city cousins.
JWP wide from Long range on the counter as Long took a long ball and did well to pick out the midfield player
Sounds like a family feud with their cousins.
Chadli has a close range effort well blocked by Forster off a free kick from Eriksen
Kane is well wide from just outside the box and that may do it.
That's it and the Saints win at SFL for the first time in thirty years as the the Spuds season continues to unravel and the Saints are up to sixth.
That's it - a great win for The Saints, who leapfrog West Ham into 6th and strengthen their bid for the Europa League.
Spurs can't be caught today, but a win for the Arsenal will put them on level terms with Arsenal going into the last match next Sunday.
That's it for me. It was great chatting with you.. I hope you and Kate have a great day. CHEERS!
Have a great afternoon, mate!
Here are the teams lining up in the tunnel in the Emirates:
Manchester City: Hart, Sagna, Otamendi, Mangala, Clichy; Fernando, Fernandinho; Navas, De Bruyne, Iheanacho; Aguero. Subs: Caballero, Angelino, Demichelis, Delph, Toure, Sterling, Bony.
Arsenal: Cech; Bellerin, Gabriel, Koscielny, Monreal; Elneny, Ramsey; Welbeck, Iwobi, Sanchez; Giroud. Subs: Ospina, Gibbs, Coquelin, Wilshere, Cazorla, Campbell, Walcott.
Referee: Anthony Taylor.
Sorry, make that the Etihad.
I am back for the 'big one' for the most part
May have to be in and out for some of it
COME ON ARSENAL!!
Actually, I'll take a draw. I want Spurs to finish a deserved second
A more attacking line-up than usual for Arsene, who may be feeling the pressure. Giroud and Welly up top and Sanchez, Iwobi and Ramsey all in support.
We're off
I sign in as MUR signs off
City look like they are starting fast
Welcome back, UWS. Spurs are doing everything possible to ruin your hope that they'll finish second.
I appreciate your joining me.
The big three in Spain have all kicked off
Barcelona are hosting a city derby with Espanyol
Real are hosting Valencia
Atletico are visiting Levante
All pretty easy games...are they all
Again, as I stated earlier, City's visit to Swansea is not as easy as it appeared
Swansea are on a roll!
I don't think United will beat WH
Torres has scored early
1-0 AM
I agree - but Arsenal also need a win here and then to do better than Citeh on Sunday. Who are they playing?
Who is Torres playing for these days?
GOAL! My boy Sergio!!!!!!!!!
Why didn't City play like this on Wednesday
They are all over them
Good scorer for Our Bob
Barca take the lead
Aguero hits #23!
GOAL! Giroud!!!!!!!
Arsenal almost tie it up!
Beautiful header!! By the defender!!
GOAL... 1-1... what a start!!!
We expected a dry, boring outing this afternoon - far from it - two goals in ten minutes!
Torres is back at Atletico
Struth... City could have scored again!!!!
Oh - that makes sense. He probably feels more comfortable there. Chelski just about killed his career.
The defenders seem to be on strike today. I luv it!
With a bit of lull in the match here is a wrap up on the lower leagues of English Football which are all finished
Championship
Champs Burnley
R-U Boro
Play off Brighton, Hull, Derby, Sheff Wed
Relegated Charlton, MK, Bolton
League 1
Champs Wigan
R-U Burton
Play off Walsall, Bradford, Millwall, Barnsley
Relegated Doncaster, Blackpool, Colchester, Crewe
League 2
Champs Northampton
R-U/3rd Oxford, Bristol Rovers
Play off A. Stanley, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Wimbledon
Relegated Dagenham, York
Conference
Champions Cheltenham
Play off Forest Green, Braintree, Grimsby Dover
I just understand how City would perform the way they did in Spain when they can attack like this
Who cares if you concede, just score the same amount
Thanks for the update, mate.
Welly is down needing some treatment now - he's not happy. Wilshere up warming up.
Welly walked off now - he might be out for England now. Bad news for Woy.
Wellie down but is walking off
Every injury... you think of the Euros
He is done for the match... could that be it?
He looks really upset
Kompany is out it was announced today
Probably good news for Theo, who might have been staying at home this summer.
They say it is 75 deg out there today
Wish it was that here!
The sun just came out in Scotia after pouring rain!
What was with that drink break at WHL... ridiculous
Why would Woy pick Jack Wilshere? He's been out all season. Surely there are other midfielders (e.g., Drinkwater, Delle Alli) who deserve it more.
I think it is better news for Drinkwater
Maybe Carroll
Noble
It's been beautiful here - I prefer it a bit under 70F. We were out gardening all afternoon yesterday. Lovely.
Hopefully that weather will come here!
Well, presumably Woy brings five or six attackers. Kane and Vardy are musts. Rooney is on the plane. So too Sturridge. So then who's the fifth or sixth. Sterling? Carroll? Berahino? The Ox? Theo?
Ox is out for sure with injury
Not sure about Theo, he has been hurt too
Crouch?
Surprise surprise the third of the top three take the lead as well
Ronny makes it 1-0
Carroll ahead of Crouch
Noble has been great for the Hammers....just not on Wednesday please
I agree. I'd have Noble in among the midfielders.
Aguero and De Bruyne were the worst on the field midweek
I couldn't believe how bad they were
Do you think any of us will be daring enough to back Leicester to win the title again next season? How about Top Four?
Levante tie it up against Atletico
I need another goal from my boy Aguero right about now.
Nava beats his man... pisspoor cross.. of course
No thanks
Clash of heads between Giroud and Mangala there. He looks a wee bit shaken.
Liverpool take the lead vs the Hornets at Anfield
What would happen to the Europa if Liverpool were to win it?
Joe Allen's goal for Pool have taken them up to 58 points. That is 4 points behind United having played the same amount of games, two points behind Sotton and one behind West Ham with a game in hand on both
Liverpool would get a Champions League place so England would have five participants
I think the League Cup space would go to sixth cuz City won that. If United win the FA Cup then seventh would go too
After that furious start to the match, the fizz has somewhat gone out of this one.
Real go two up
As of now
Barca 88
Real 87
Atl 86
AM surely will win against the bottom club
So, as it stands Leicester, Spurs, Arse, and Citeh would go to the CL, with possibly Liverpool as well. Then United and Soton would go to the EL, with possibly West Ham, if United won the FA Cup.
Those four points for La Liga champs might be crucial in the PPP.
That's that - the first ten minutes were great, the next thirty five, not so much. I reckon that this one might end a draw, which would guarantee Spurs 2nd and Arse 3rd.
You are correct
Half time
I am off for walkies
I'll be back
Before I leave, I have to correct you slightly
Spurs and Arsenal could swap places
Spurs now have a two point lead
Citeh get us underway in the second half - bright sunshine still ringing the Etihad. They had a water break in the first match - I wonder if they'll do the same here.
GOAL! The Ginger Winger finishes off a lovely move with a stunning strike!
2-1 Citeh!
Petr Cech was beaten at his near post - he won't be happy about that.
Iwobi trudging off - Theo to come on.
Arsene Wenger commented that "the future of Arsenal FC depends on this match." Doesn't look good right now.
Great clearance by Otamendi there as Theo fizzed a ball over.
Citeh look a bit overrun at present - might need a change for the last twenty minutes.
Oh - Theo was in there but just couldn't quite steer his chip on target.
GOAL! Sanchez finishes off a terrific team move, straight down the middle. Great finish.
2-2!
Suddenly Citeh have sprung to life again - I don't know why teams do that. Hang back until the other side scores.
Ihenacho comes off to be replaced by Sterling. He's shaking his head, doesn't like it.
Ginger Winger is fouled on the edge of the box by Gabby.
DeBruyne whips in a shot but Cech tips over easily.
Oh - Aguero had a chance at the back post but put his shot wide.
Oh - Aguero again strides into the area for a volley. Just wide.
HI Bob,
Sorry my walk was long
Desmond!!!
Arsene throwing on Coq au Vin now. He's obviously happy with a draw now.
How was the walkies?
Scores from Espana
Barca 4-0
Real 3-1
Atletico 1-1
Yeah - two good goals from DeBruyne and Alexis.
Elneny coming off now.
A little chilly cuz of the wind
Citeh seem the more urgent of the two sides now. They've got you lot looking up at them.
Good score for United but not Spurs
Were the neighbors out gardening today?
I'd like to see Watford get a goal back... damn it.. as I type they go two up
Not yet
Again, a little blustery and still too wet after this morning deluge
Navas sprinting off now to be replaced by Wilfried Bony.
Fernando also off for Yaya.
Watford will be happy to have just survived; Bournemouth, too.
Barca, Real and Atletico are good but what about the league?
I know Sevilla could get a hat-trick of EL wins. If it wasn't for Liverpool, they could have had all four places in the two Finals but what can you say about the league when Barca have a +79 GD, Real +75 and AM +44
Ironically, La Liga don't use GD for tie breaks... head to head
I don't really care about La Liga but Valencia get a goal back
3-2
Barca 5-0 +80 GD
A draw or loss for City doesn't really matter for United
Just not a win
Again, I have no confidence United will win both games
I guess if United get a draw and a win, we would need City to drop points against Swans... not impossible
I think you might just. West Ham are in rotten form right now.
Valencia are down to ten men
City hit the bar!
Watch us struggle against the Cherries!
Last game at UP... could be a tough one
A slice of leftover quiche has arrived for lunch.
