Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Morning, chaps - Chelsea are going to win the Premier League this season, easily; Burnley are going to stay in the Premier League this season, easily. That seems to be the narrative going into this morning's match. But football is a funny old game, isn't it?
Good morning. I'm putting on a cuppa as the match is about to begin
Morning, MUR - great to have you on board this morning. I've got a strong one nearby.
Here are the teams coming out onto a rainy Turf Moor now:
Burnley: Heaton; Lowton, Keane, Mee, Ward; Boyd, Barton, Westwood, Brady; Gray, Barnes.
Subs: Flanagan, Arfield, Vokes, Darikwa,Gudmundsson, Tarkowski, Robinson.
Chelsea: Courtois; Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Cahill (c); Moses, Kante, Matic, Alonso; Pedro, Diego Costa, Hazard.
Subs: Begovic, Zouma, Ake, Chalobah, Fabregas, Willian, Batshuayi.
Referee: Kevin Friend (Father-in-law of Stuart Charles Glyndwr MacGill)
All eyes on Diego Costa as kick-off approaches. He's now dropped a few goals behind the leaders at the top of the scoring charts after sitting atop the charts for most of the season. And Burnley get us underway
I have some coffee brewing and what a surprise. Joey Barton concedes the first free kick of the match
A lovely morning in northern England: Windy , blustery and a wintry mix. Sounds like beach weather,.
Barton would seem a good move for Sean Dyche. He's got the quality to be able to lay on some goals for a side desperately lacking quality. If he can get his temperament right.
Chelsea straight into the attacks - they look like a machine in this mood.
Costa puts Hazard through and his shot is easily saved by Heaton after the ball was won hot off the press.
First big chance for Chelski - Costa slides through for Hazard who shoots at goal only to have it saved by Heaton, who will be a busy man today.
GOAL! They were warned - Chelski score through Pedro!!
GOAL !!!! PRECISION PASSING ON THE COUNTER AS KANTE FOUND MOSSES, WHO FOUND HAZARD, WHO SCORED PAST THE ON RUSHING HEATON.
Superb sweeping move from the Blues involving about half the side. At the end of it Moses parted the Red Sea, played across for Pedro whose first touch took him into a shooting position and bam!
0-1 Chelski!
This one was coming. it's going to be a long afternoon for Burnley.
It would seem like it, yes. Is it snowing now at Turf Moor?
My apologies. Pedro scored, not Hazard, but Chelsea have been Hazard to the newly promoted team.
That's Life in a Northern Town!
Great song, MUR - thanks for the reminder. Love the timpani on that track.
Glad to help. I thought it would complement the theme today.
It seems that Burnley are chasing the ball, making Chelsea look like Barca
The Sideshow with a ponytail. Do you approve?
Predictably Chelski have stepped off the pedal a bit, urging Burnley to play a bit and attack them. And duly Barnes has a go at the top of the box. He was also falling when the shot came.
A rare Burnley attack with Ashley Barnes shooting high and wide.
Well - the weather is poor. If he were to let it down, it might just take over Turf Moor entirely. I approve under the circumstances.
Matic fouls Barton as Burnley have a rare chance.
GOAL! Just when this match seemed to be settling into a routine pattern, Robbie Brady steps up to hit a peach of a free kick into the corner.
1-1!
GOAL !!!! 1-1 ROBBIE BRADY SCORES ON HIS HOME DEBUT WITH A CURLING FREE KICK . HE WAS JUST SIGNED BY THE CANARIES.
Agreed about the weather. It seems to be complementing the match.
Now then - Chelski thought that they were going to bolt the door for seventy minutes. Now they've got to start all over again. Can they get back into the gear that they were in when the match started?
Ashley BArnes leads with his elbow on Azpi. he's lectured by Kevin Friend. Will there be retrospective action?
The Turf Moor crowd are totally up for it, now.
It's a cracking atmosphere, but Chelski still have plenty of time to win this.
Burnley are causing Chelsea some problems here. Chelsea may often look to counter, but when they do, they do so in numbers, which gives opponents an opportunity to turn the tables when the move breaks down. Or, put another way, Burnley are Chelseaing Chelsea.
Roberto Martinez, now manager of the Belgian national team, in attendance.
Nice analogy, mate.
Oh - Lowton was in one-on-one with Courtois but the big Belgian stood up well. Barton played a lovely ball through.
Great kick save by Courtois from Matty Lowton then a superb tackle by Ben Mee on Hazard as Chelsea immediately countered.
Bobby Martinez would seem an odd choice for that job, but the Belgians haven't risen to their abilities at big tournaments yet.
Roberto will be impressed , considering that Courtois must be freezing out there. it looks like the stadium is out in the open as opposed to stadiums like OT and Anfield.
Former favorite , Marc Wilmots didn't do the job and Roberto is off to a decent start. I was surprised too.
WOW !!! Joey Barton sure has a gambling addiction. He's going to be broke when he retires.
True - Wilmots was a complete failure.
Not a lot of urgency from either side as this half winds down.
Former start players are not necessarily great coaches. He satrted off well, but it ended so horribly.
A minute of stoppage time as this match is finely balanced.
It's 1-1 at the end of a surprisingly even half.
Chelski get us underway again in the second half, as sunshine begins to peek through at Turf Moor.
The second half is underway from Turf Moor.
We have plenty of that here as it was in the upper 80s yesterday.
Hey Guys,
I am just back from taking Jon to work and walking the dog. I saw Burnley's goal... first direct free kick against Chelsea since 2013
Ooh, Burnley should have scored!!
Our storm has just started... fifteen inches here we come
OH!!!! Andre Gray was through after two miss timed challenges from Cahill and the Sideshow. His shot was easily saved by Courtois with just the Belgian keeper to beat
Besides Chelsea, I can't believe how close the Premier League is this year....United are sixth... TWO points behind SECOND
Good morning, UWS. Glad to have you join us. Sounds like a winter wonderland
Scoring a free kick against Chelsea sounds like a collector's item.
I told you about my snowblower pull start broke.. I went to the store to get a new one. The guy couldn't find one so he gave me rope to use.
I figured how to take it apart and put it back together... first pull... SNAP
I was thinking the same. Sounds like Citeh are the only team in with a chance of challenging Chelsea, but I was thinking the same regarding the second and sixth place.
Well done. You sound like a mechanical genius.
uhhhh...the rope broke again!!!
Morning, UWS - sorry to hear about all that snow - we've been spared in WNY.
The Lincoln City manager is doing scouting duty as his team play at Turf Moor in the early match this coming Saturday. His team have team have their work cut out for them, given Burnley's home record and the fact that even the first place Prem team find it tough going here , let alone the first placed team in the Conference.
Sorry about, UWS
If Citeh win on the South Coast tomorrow and this finishes a draw then Citeh will be eight points behind the league leaders.
Lincoln won 3-2 at home pre-FA Cup
Sutton lost away 3-0
The Sideshow cuts out a pass from Andre Gray for a Burnley corner.
United still have to go to Turf Moor.... they will lose
I'll lend you me shovel, mate. Get on it!
The corner from Robbie Brady in that swirling wind was headed away by the first man.
Burnley gained their only away point at OT.
Lincoln will not be a soft touch as they have already knocked the Tractor Boys and the Seagulls out of the Cup.
Bob and Steve will be hoping that Sutton get thrashed on the plastic pitch will Lincoln were Woking up after that 3-2 win.
We've already have had two snow days and we only have three built into the calendar. I think the snow has started too early to get tomorrow off
Let's hope so - you don't want to cut into your summer, do you?
Our high is supposed to be 88 today. It will be as low as 69 by Wednesday.
Agreed. You're year is long enough without extending it.
The hour cometh - but no changes yet.
Scott Arfield is about to come on for Burnley.
Robbie Brady, just signed from the Canaries , is replaced by Scott Arfield, after scoring a superb free kick against the Champs on his home debut.
I think Robbie Brady scored in the 1-0 win against Conte's Italy to book a place in the Round of 16 in the Euros last summer. If so, then he knows about scoring against Conte sides.
Chelsea finally make a change and it's an attacking one as Fab is on for Matic. That should create more chances for Chelsea.
Ashley Westwood gives the ball away horrible to Hazard then is booked for fouling the same player on the break.
Fab looks as if he'd rather be playing on the Costa del Sol.
Will Keane heads away the free kick from Fab.
It's anything but that in this northern industrial town.. If he wants that then he needs to play in South Texas.
Hazard with a shot that lands in Row N off a poor clearance from Scott Arfield.
Willian is on for Victor Moses.
Fab slices a shot horrible wide that ruins a superb possession.
The Sideshow talks himself into a booking after he thought he was fouled by Andre Gray. A throw was given instead.
Did you see that yesterday's three points put United over the 2000 point mark in the Prem
Arsenal are next with 1797, Chelsea 1755, Spurs 1411 and Everton 1303... all the ever presents
United have the highest points per game with 2.11 Arsenal is at 1.89,
The top four are the same as the total points list though Man City are fifth in this list at 1.51..... LEEDS are seventh on 1.48 (692 from 468 games)
Matty Lowton with two consecutive fouls and Kevin says that's not too friendly as the Burnley fullback is booked.
Great stats. Great job of anoraking.
Great stuff, UWS - how are we 7th? We haven't been in the Premier League for yonks!
This result would really help out the chasers. And Sean Dyche isn't finished - big Sam Vokes to come on.
Bob's beloved Sam Vokes is on in place of Andre Gray as he's run his race. It's like for like as he's on as fresh legs.
I think ten out of twelve of the Prem seasons were very productive. Not many teams have had that many seasons nor as many productive seasons.
Pedro curls an effort high and wide off of precise Chelsea passing after Joey Barton was tripped of the ball by Kante.
Sam Vokes - pah.....
Batshuyai is on for Pedro as Chelsea go with two strikers , going for the win late on.
Belgian players will not like the sight of Big Sam.
It wouldn't be right for Joey Barton not to clatter someone and pick up a yellow - and there it is. Surprised that it took 87 minutes.
Barton booked for running into Willian. I thought that was harsh as there was not much he could do to get out of the way.
Sorry, just finished off some crumpets
As for Leeds, they aren't high in the points list but the points per game you are
Come on Burnley HOLD ON
If that's a booking then I would have been booked ten times a match in my day for the way I played,.
Oh - that makes more sense.
Fab booked for fouling Ashley Barnes.
Right now, who do you think will be the two that miss out of the top four?
Leeds were productive the majority of the Prem seasons, so that does make sense. That stat may go down if they win promotion.
Top team need a goal...4 added minutes
Something has to be done about this
Four minutes of stoppage time.
It's too close too call . I think that will be decided the final day of the season.
Strange as it may sound, I think the two North London teams could miss out on the top four .
I don't think he's right about the first player to win back to back premier league titles with different teams
I am sure Henning Burg or David May did with Blackburn then United
Of course King Eric won back to back with both our Uniteds but the first one wasn't the Prem
Burnley have shown how tough they are at Turf Moor with a courageous performance against the Prem leaders. Nets up is the Conference leaders in the Cup.
I'm surprised that Chelski are going to drop points here. If they'd just continued to play in the opening quarter of an hour, they could have scored three or four.
Congrats Burnley
Well deserved
United only 12 back
It finishes 1-1 as Burnley surprisingly made a great contest of it.
So Chelski only have a ten point lead now. Citeh could draw within eight points with a win on the South Coast tomorrow.
City could be within 8
Title isn't over
Next up is a relegation six pointer as the Swans host the Foxes. The winner could create daylight between themselves and the relegation zone.
I was wrong
David May was at Blackburn until 1994 then went to United
Rovers won in 95
Henning Berg was with Rovers until 97
MY BAD
Next up is the relegation dogfight between Swansea and Leicester. Are you lot sticking around for that one?
I have been watching a lot of youtube from the 70s.. a lot of Big Match shows.... their second match sometimes went to Anglia and good old Gerry Harrison!
Some bloke scored two for Millwall in the 73 Cup at Goodison in at 2-0 win.. they said he was 31...that bloke is now 77....YIKES!
I will be here...too much snow falling out there
29% possession... stop giving that stat... IT MEANS ABSOLUTELY nothing!!
I don't mind Swans but I am on the Foxes side today
I think it was fantastic them winning last year and I don't want them to follow it up with relegation
The teams coming out at the Liberty Stadium now:
Swansea: Fabianski, Naughton, Fernandez, Mawson, Olsson, Fer, Cork, Carroll, Dyer, Llorente, Sigurdsson. Subs: Ayew, Amat, Nordfeldt, Routledge, Rangel, Narsingh, Kingsley.
Leicester: Schmeichel, Simpson, Huth, Morgan, Fuchs, Drinkwater, Ndidi, Mahrez, Gray, Albrighton, Vardy. Subs: Chilwell, Musa, King, Amartey, Slimani, Okazaki, Zieler.
Referee: Jon Moss
I'm on the Foxes side, too. I don't like the idea of them being relegated only a year after winning the title. It would cheapen their accomplishments from last season.
Leicester start in 16th today, only a point above Hull in that deadly 18th position. They're level on points with the Swans, albeit with -17 GD as opposed to the Welshmen's -25 GD.
Leicester get us underway; both sides wearing traditional home kits for a change.
I'm back for the late match as they're off from the Liberty
Swansea's new boss Paul Clement has just picked up the Manager of the Month award for January 2017, after turning around the fortunes of the Welsh club.
Welcome back, mate. I'm glad that we're all here for this one. I was debating grading some papers, but they can wait.
Marc Albrighton fouls Nathan Dyer, who was on loan with the Foxes last season an won an unexpected Prem medal.
Thanks, Bob. It's great to be on board with you. I'm waiting till the end of the match as well.
Close call for Wes Morgan there - could easily have been called for handball.
The Foxes got a break as that was surely hand ball by Wes Morgan and a penalty. The break the Foxes need?
well put bob
Now Nathan Dyer is down for the Swans and that seems to be the end of the match for him as Routledge will be on in his place soon.
looks like Achilles for Dyer
That change occurs as the corner by Siggy is headed out by Morgan for another.
I HATE these damn front post corners... they work once every 500 times!!
Fuchs heads out the next corner taken by Siggy.
Agreed about the corner and also about the Foxes. I would hate to see them go down, but they are in desperate need of rebuilding.
Decent attack by Leicester but still the crosses aren't brilliant in modern day football
Alfie Mowson fouls Damari Gray just outside the Swans box.
The audio quality seems odd on the feed, almost as if they're recording in a tunnel.
The free kick from Mahrez is easily headed out.
Of course there is talk of De Gea being tempted by Real again. They are saying either him or Courtois will be at the Bernabeau next season
IF... and that's a big IF... De Gea leaves, who would United get?
I have thought of someone but haven't heard it from anywhere
I think it is ridiculous that there is talk of Raneiri getting the axe... that is what's wrong with the modern game... That would mean the last two seasons' winning managers would get the axe during the next season(Jose)
STUPIDITY
Swansea are, as you might expect, controlling the possession but Leicester are working pretty hard at the moment, snapping at their feet and making sure most moves don’t stick.
As much as Claudio deserves credit for last season, he deserves criticism this season. Mahrez and Vardy have been pure and utter crap this season. Why haven't they been dropped. Where's the accountability? Fuchs and Morgan have shown they really can't compete at this level any longer. Where are the central defenders to replace them. The same could be said of Fuchs and Drinkwater. Meanwhile, players like Gray and Albrighton have hardly even put a foot wrong, but aren't even guaranteed a spot in the starting lineup. It doesn't make sense.
Agreed - Ranieri has bought himself some time and grace. Even if they did get the chop, which I don't think that they will, he would deserve a season in the Championship.
Another problem is that the Foxes haven't snapped away at opponents consistently like they did last season. That's their bread and butter and they need to go back to that.
another bloody front post corner
I agree that Ranieri deserves time, but Fuchs, Morgan , Mahrez, Huth , and Vardy need to go, possibly to the Championship. It would send a message.
So who would you replace Twilight with, UWS - I don't think you said.
That would be the spine of the title winning side, MUR - quite a message.
Thoughts on United keeper?
The last player to score a Prem goal for the Foxes was Slimani , who is on the bench, yet Vardy starts. There is part of the problem. Lack of accountability.
I didn't say yet
How about a certain young boy taking over his Dad's old shirt
I'm not sure who would replace Twilight .
Not the right decision from Vardy there
Agreed Bob, but that spine has cracked and is performing at a level appropriate for a Championship side. They punched well above their weight for one season, but are now well past their peak. If they're not performing and some of them like Vardy and Mahrez are basically passengers then why keep them?
Now a wrong decision from Mahrez
What do you think of my idea
Fuchs clears for a Swans corner.
That would also send a message at Old Trafford - wow!
Huth heads out the corner from siggy.
Of course, I wish Casper were still at ER - although Rob Green has had a decent season. No complaints.
I agree with your idea, UWS. He's probably been the Foxes most consistent performer this season.
United's midweek opponents are already 2-0 at home to Lorient after only 20 minutes
Leroy Fer picks up the match's first yellow card.
Vardy is down and John Moss says that is not a Fer challenge as the Dutch midfield player is booked for that.
Wonder why no one has said a word... well I haven't heard anything
I guess they're having a bumpy ride on the Lorient Express.
Is Twilight definitely going to Spain in the summer?
I think I did at 11:25.
Is he in the Twilight of his United career?
I set you up for that one, mate. Boom boom!
It finished 0-0 in the Edinburgh Derby in the Scots. Second tier Hibs made it to the final last year. Will they do the same this year?
Cheers, Bob. UWS set me up as well.
Rangers leading Greenock Morton 2-1 in the second half of the Scots Cup.
Neither side looks capable of scoring goals (or even making chances!).
HIbs won the Cup last season
I meant other people.. media and co
Actually, our EL opponents are derailing the Lorient Express . Hope they don't do the same to us.
Rangers got rid of their manager this week
They said Warburton had resigned but then he said he hadn't
Kasper does well to push away a volley from Routledge off a great run and cross by Siggy.
Oh - Siggy with the first decent shot - just wide. He's got the quality to make a difference.
Does that make Hibs favorites or underdogs vs Hearts? Cup Winner, but the lower division side.
Yup St E are two up
Never a red
Now it's Huth into the book - could easily have been red.
Huth booked for a late challenge on Tom Carroll. Typical of his performances this season
Bugger... one nil the Welsh
GOAL !!! ALFIE MOWSON GIVES THE SWANS THE LEAD.
Great volley... by the center back
GOAL! Mawson opens the scoring for the home side. What a strike!
Siggy, who has been the conductor on the pitch played in the free kick. Huth headed out then Tom Carroll headed back across the box and Alfie Mowson scored with a great first time volley.
