Russia 2018 Day 13!...lucky for some

Group C and D finish up to day with a lot to play for. We begin with top two in C playing each other. A draw would suit them just fine. Australia need a French win and a win for themselves to have hope.
Group D should be fun. Can Argentina somehow get out the group? They have been useless but can still qualify with a win and Iceland falling to one of the teams that are playing well... Croatia. Can the Croats go all the way?

When do the slates get wiped clean with cards

It used to be after the group stages but I think it has changed. I think that they don't until after the quarters... so they don't suspended from the Final with a card in the semi

Argentina players led a mutiny , trying to get the manager sacked and failed! Several players will be dropped as the replacement keeper will be making his international debut. Sampaoli expected to be sacked once Argentina are eliminated

Not surprisingly, there are seven changes from Deschamps. Varane, Kante, Hernandez, Griezmann, and Giroud are retained, while Mandanda, Sidibe, Kimpembe, Dembele, Nzonzi and Lemar all come in.

That's what I've heard, too, MUR. Apparently the players have been picking the team rather than Sampaoli.

Denmark have to be careful. If they push too hard for the win and get burned on the counter, they could get pipped by a two-goal win by Australia.

Indeed, particularly France is looking tepid, understandable with this reshuffled lineup.

To be honest, it was a spectacular goal,. Jedinak was tackled in the Peru half. A long ball out of the back from Orlando City's Yotun, found Farfan down the left. He cut in and his cross was spectacularly volleyed in the corner from the corner of the box.

Hello MUR.

I have been switching back and forth between the games. I think the Australia-Peru match has more fire.

Also, without Pogba and Mbappe, I don't find France that compelling.

As for winning the group, I think it makes sense to try to win. Argentina really does not look good.

The S.A. qualifiers were very tight. Chile essentially blew it with a tie and loss versus Ecuador and Paraguay that should not have been. Those extra 4 points would have put them in second.

Griezmann breaks off a Denmark corner, goes on a long solo run and is horribly fouled from behind by Zanka. He's booked , but gets away with it as the ref blows the halftime whistle before the fee kick can be taken . French players and fans none too pleased.

10:48 AM
Blogger The Blue Devil said...

We've reached the interval in both matches, then. As it stands, France are top with 7 points, Denmark in second with 5, Peru have 3 points in third and the Aussies are dead last on 1 point.

Chile started off strong, stumbled in the middle (I think Vidal was hurt for a while), and once they were back in stride they had tough games versus Argentina and Brazil, where they got zero points. They went out on goal difference to Peru.
