Russia 2018 Day 13!...lucky for some
Group C and D finish up to day with a lot to play for. We begin with top two in C playing each other. A draw would suit them just fine. Australia need a French win and a win for themselves to have hope.
Group D should be fun. Can Argentina somehow get out the group? They have been useless but can still qualify with a win and Iceland falling to one of the teams that are playing well... Croatia. Can the Croats go all the way?

Morning, UWS! Thanks for the excellent post. My apologies again for not being able to work out the details of the side trip to Casa Nocito. Still looking forward to seeing you on Sunday.
No apologies needed
Just read that these last group games will the last using the ball with black spots..... the knockout stages turn to red
All I want is for Tim Cahill to play and have a chance for a goal in four straight World Cups. Is that too much to ask?
Turned it over to Fox.... it is a blank screen!!
FYI
TIEBREAKERS
If two or more teams are level on points, they are separated using this tiebreaker system
1. Goal difference

Yellow card: -1
Red card for two cautions: -3
Straight red card: -4
Yellow card and straight red card: -5
Early matches on ITV today
Morning, Ed! I'd love to see Timmy get his goal and join the other four players who have managed that achievement. He's been a loyal servant.
Yikes....Holden's shirt and tie!!
Are Ireland playing?
Pogba being rested today after a yellow in the last game
When do the slates get wiped clean with cards
It used to be after the group stages but I think it has changed. I think that they don't until after the quarters... so they don't suspended from the Final with a card in the semi
Who will France want to play in the R16? They might want to avoid Croatia who are in red hot form. However, do they risk a loss to Denmark and wind up with Argentina?
Wouldn't coming first get Argentina and second vs Croatia
Cards wiped clean after the Quarters
Dixon, O'Neil and Larsson in the ITV studio
Good morning, Bob, Dave, and Someone. Here to join you.I have the PIP on.
Read the comments. Don't forget Nigeria . France could face them in the Round of Sixteen, which they did four years ago and Nigeria gave them quite a fight
Teams gathering in the tunnel now:
Denmark: Schmeichel, Dalsgaard, Kjaer, Christensen, Larsen, Delaney, Mathias Zanka Jorgensen, Eriksen, Sisto, Cornelius, Braithwaite.
Subs: Lossl, Krohn-Dehli, Vestergaard, Knudsen, Kvist, Nicolai Jorgensen, Dolberg, Fischer, Lerager, Schone, Ronnow.
France: Mandanda, Sidibe, Varane, Kimpembe, Lucas, Kante, Nzonzi, Lemar, Griezmann, Dembele, Giroud.
Subs: Lloris, Pavard, Umtiti, Pogba, Mbappe-Lottin, Tolisso, Matuidi, Rami, Fekir, Thauvin, Mendy, Areola.
Referee: Sandro Ricci (Brazil)
Argentina players led a mutiny , trying to get the manager sacked and failed! Several players will be dropped as the replacement keeper will be making his international debut. Sampaoli expected to be sacked once Argentina are eliminated
Not surprisingly, there are seven changes from Deschamps. Varane, Kante, Hernandez, Griezmann, and Giroud are retained, while Mandanda, Sidibe, Kimpembe, Dembele, Nzonzi and Lemar all come in.
That's what I've heard, too, MUR. Apparently the players have been picking the team rather than Sampaoli.
The Championship being represented as Dalsgaarad , of Brentford, is the starting Danish right back. Plenty of Championship representation for the Aussies and Peru have been starting an MLS player
Has anyone been sacked yet? Did anyone pick Sampaoli to be the first one to walk the plank? Aguero the head chef.
A warm day in Russia. Upper 70s , sunny and no breeze in Moscow. Must be warmer and more humid in Sochi
Will France and Denmark play for a draw? It helps both teams. Denmark should go for the win. Don't think they would fancy facing Croatia.
Underway in Moscow
Got my ITV4 link going for the other match
Will there be goals in matches 37 and 38
They're off from Moscow and Sochi
Peru in red?
My guess is yes for 37 and 38 as well as 39 and 40.
Yes they are. FIFA has some tiff about white vs yellow.
I hope that the Danes go for this one. I'd love to see France turned over. They're vastly overrated in my book.
I once saw Peru wear red in 1982,
Braithwaite goes down, looking for a penalty. Went down easily.
Hope both teams go out to entertain
Aussies attacking early on. Cross cleared and Jedinak shoots over from just outside the box. El Presidente the announcer in that match
Braithwaite wins a Danish corner
Aussies doing all the attacking in the other match. Peru seem to be ready for the long flight home.
I was thinking this while not sleeping the other night....Europe are on a roll
World Champs

Euro 2 in a row Italy, Italy '34, '38

So happy I am watching/listening to ITV then!!
Peru player rolling as Jedinak booked. Not happy that he was booked because of the player reaction rather than the seriousness of the foul
I fear one of these games will be scoreless
Aussies get a yellow... tied with Denmark now
They sure are. Last time a non European team other than Brazil won it was Argentina in 1986.
If the Aussies win 1-0 and the Danes lose 1-0, the Aussies would go through on goals scored.
To be fair... only Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay are the only ones that won it
Three SA teams and five Euros
Denmark have to be careful. If they push too hard for the win and get burned on the counter, they could get pipped by a two-goal win by Australia.
Indeed, particularly France is looking tepid, understandable with this reshuffled lineup.
Olly has a shot tipped over by Kasper.
Hello RD. Great point about France and Denmark.
Varane heads wide from the corner.,
Agreed. , UWS. After 1950 it has only been Brazil and Argentina, who will do well to get out of the group.
GOAL !! CARILLO GIVES PERU THE LEAD WITH A CRACKING VOLLEY
Peru's first attack
37th game in a row.
Are they going to look at the offside
Ok, PERU!
It's a goal
28 years ago today
England v Belgium
"ENGLAND HAVE DONE IT!! IN THE LAST MINUTE OF EXTRA TIME!"
Well done David Platt
To be honest, it was a spectacular goal,. Jedinak was tackled in the Peru half. A long ball out of the back from Orlando City's Yotun, found Farfan down the left. He cut in and his cross was spectacularly volleyed in the corner from the corner of the box.
When I was watching that match , I was certain it was going to penalties. Well stated, UWS
Hello MUR.
I have been switching back and forth between the games. I think the Australia-Peru match has more fire.
Also, without Pogba and Mbappe, I don't find France that compelling.
As for winning the group, I think it makes sense to try to win. Argentina really does not look good.
Denamrk denied a penalty? Looked like a rugby tackle off the corner.
Me too
I was in England with a high school team from over here. We had played Lakenheath and were having a BBQ at Mike's house in Worlington... I was thinking to myself how I was going to watch the pens....up steps Platt...I went screaming and running around the pool!!
Where's Robert gone?
Hello, RD. I'm watching both at the same time, but agreed that the Aussies vs Peru is more exciting. Just don't like the announcers for that match
Cueva fouled. The free kick from Yotun headed by Guerrero straight to Matty Ryan
Great memories, UWS.
Morning, Red Devil - great to have you on board!
I'm at work, checking in occasionally, UWS. I'll be on the blog full-time this afternoon.
There you are
Australia go close. Should have passed.
Sounds like it's been a real bore-fest between the top two teams, whilst Peru is ruining the Socceroos chances.
Rogic, of Celtic, showing some skill. IS triple teamed , but shakes of all three players and his shot is turned around by Gallesse.
Gallesse catches the corner from Mooy
Great cross...Erik just couldn't get there!
Correct. The Aussies now need two and hope for help from France. it will be tough
Work schmerk
Aussies have a close range effort blocked, but flagged offside.
Offsides, but the shooter should have done better.
LOL, UWS. Isn't it Summer Vacation?
Dembele wide for France. Kasper appeared to have it covered.
Peru's players look more dangerous, but Australia's attacks seem more complex. I think they have a goal in them.
aussies should have tied it up. Great pass from Jedinak found Leckie and his pass across the six yard box was cleared for a corner with the keeper out of position
Peru better look out on the set pieces. They are draped all over the Aussies, and the ref will call that one of these days.
LOL! I'm trying to clear things off the desk so I can devote next week to having a great time with you chaps.
Agreed. Peru have have the quality to unlock a defense. The Aussies have had more possession, but are struggling to get a shot off.
Just drop it off on someone else's desk!
Understood, Bob. I was out in the heat sweeping, mowing, edging , and sweeping to have that done before the trip
As a Chilean, I have to say that even objectively, having Peru here instead of Chile impoverishes the tournament. They are patchy at best.
Bob could be like my principal . Have crap stacked so high that she has to use a different room for conferences.
Hey, the buck stops on Blue Devil's desk. No one can pick up his work.
Risdon wins a free kick just outside the Peru box.
Oh, that should have been a better directed header.
Sainsbury heads wide off the free kick from Mooy.
Are France and Denmark engaged in a bout of Anschluss Football? This smells like a Phony War to me.
I could probably skip the late match on Sunday and get on the road earlier
It is the Group D winner vs Group C runner up
Croatia vs Denmark
South American football is not my area of expertise, but I thought Chile underachieved and was really surprised they didn't qualify
Thanks, guys - I'll send your references along to the Dean's office, in case she's got some money in the slush fund for a summer bonus! ;-)
Jedinak with a foul just outside the aussie box.
Man. I wish these guys weren't all sporting beards. Especially in the heat, it is just ridiculous, and it makes them look like dwarves from a distance.
I don't think so, Bob. Both France and Denmark had chances. Kasper made a spectacular save from Olly and Denmark had a shout for a penalty
Giroud misses a chance but it was offside anyway
LOL, RD. We face the same problem here this time of year where the heat index approaches 100, but some people insist on wearing those horrible beards
The S.A. qualifiers were very tight. Chile essentially blew it with a tie and loss versus Ecuador and Paraguay that should not have been. Those extra 4 points would have put them in second.
Yotun booked for nasty foul. Poor by the Orlando City player as we enter stoppage time.
South American qualifying always is. I was expecting them to be second or third. Poor coaching?
Peru one up in what was a fairly even half, but Peru had more of a cutting edge.
Griezmann breaks off a Denmark corner, goes on a long solo run and is horribly fouled from behind by Zanka. He's booked , but gets away with it as the ref blows the halftime whistle before the fee kick can be taken . French players and fans none too pleased.
We've reached the interval in both matches, then. As it stands, France are top with 7 points, Denmark in second with 5, Peru have 3 points in third and the Aussies are dead last on 1 point.
It's 0-0 at the half , but both sides had chances.
Chile started off strong, stumbled in the middle (I think Vidal was hurt for a while), and once they were back in stride they had tough games versus Argentina and Brazil, where they got zero points. They went out on goal difference to Peru.
Chile would certainly be more entertaining than Peru have been.
This group is turning out as most of us predicted. Are we looking at a high scoring PPP?
I agree with Bob. Chile would have been stiffer competition for Denmark.
We need a goal in Moscow
Second half underway from Sochi as Steven Tyler looks set to make two substitutions.Under from Moscow. Still waiting from Sochi. Finally underway from Sochi
Second half starting up....
Not sure if Steven Tyler made the changes or was just singing instructions
I'm wondering if RD doesn't want Peru at the World Cup due to a dislike for Steven Tyler.
France to make a change and Twitter Boy, Mendy, on for Lucas Hernandez. Missed most of the season for Citeh
Come on ....let's have a goal!!!
GOAL !!!! GUERRERO GETS HIS GOAL TO PUT PERU TWO UP. THE AUSSIES SURELY OUT
I know the match doesn't matter but France are useless
I can vouch for the fact that Red Devil is a massive classic rock fan. I'm sure he's got nothing against Steven Tyler or his lookalike.
France are useless - they're once again proving that England have nothing to fear from them.
Socceroos heading home.
Breaking news... Rooney has reached an agreement with DC United
Should be confirmed in the next 36 hours
It was Tiki Taka from Peru then all of a sudden Tapia was played down the left. He passed into the box and Guerrero made a 18 degree turn to score with a first time left footed shot in the corner.
Timmy Cahill getting a chance to come on and why not as the Aussies are all but out. Agreed with Someone.
Love to see Denmark to take the lead... free kick....CE...bobbled..rebound finally collected
Denmark have nothing to lose. They have qualified for the next round so go out and try to win the group
Griezmann had a deflected effort saved comfortably by Kasper.
On comes Cahill
He was in NYC watching a match my son Matt was playing in
It was just south of Chelsea pier...actually on the Hudson
The giant Cornelius down for Denmark. Flopped at Cardiff City in their one Prem season.
Mooy has a free kick deflected for a corner.
See my breaking news?
WOW !!! Did you get an autograph? Was he happy with Matt's performance?
37 matches... and holding
No we didn't.... He better have!!
My other breaking news?
Yes I did. I thought that deal had been made a couple of months ago. Wonder what Steve thinks.
Eriksen with a weak effort
Hit the target mate!!
30+ minutes left to get a goal
Gooner will be cock-a-hoop over that breaking news!
Another Danish Prem flop, as Fisher ,, who flopped in the Teesider's one Prem season, on for Sisto.
After Big Sam was booted out at Goodison, there was a chance he would stay
OH! Juruic with a shot deflected wide from an Aussie corner . Cahill has a shot blocked on the next corner then Peru break and the young Arzani is booked for a foul on that counter.
Aussies go close twice
COME ON DENMARK
Would love to see the Danes win this one.
Looks like both teams are trying to score in the 0-0 match. Just not successful. Danes would want to avoid Croatia.
This match is crucial to keep the goal scoring streak going
I think there will goals in the late matches
Steven Tyler to make a change.
Hurtado on for Tapia
Sainsbury and the Aussies shopping for goals. Three goals should be on the grocery list.
Come on Denmark...you have NOTHING to lose!!
Some of the 1-0 matches didn't have a goal till second half stoppage time. That could very well happen in the France vs Denmark match
Aussie free kick. Mooy to take. Peru break and Rogic booked for a foul on the break.
France break down the left and a foul is called on the cross.
Let's hope so.
Fekie on for Griezmann
The French hit the side netting
Some fans thought it was in
Not that close
Aussie teenager, Arzani, nearly pulls one back for the Aussies. Won a tackle just outside the box then had a shot skim off the top of the bar.
Delaney down off a clumsy foul from Nzonzi . Stoke and Blackburn fans all too familiar with that
I really don't get it that Denmark aren't going for broke
No urgency
Jackson Irvine , of the Tigers, on for Rogic , of Celtic
Agreed. Nothing to lose. Why not?
Olly heads well wide.
15 to go
An anti climatic and predictable finish to Group C
Denmark playing for a draw. Cornelius taking forever to come off. Replaced by Dolberg of Ajax.
SO STUPID
Braithwaite listed as a Middlesbrough player , so the Danes have two Championship players starting
Just on principle I will skip the Denmark game on Sunday after this!!
I have a quiz question. What happened yesterday that happened in the 2010 World Cup?
Why oh why wouldn't you want to win the group!!
Mbappe on for Dembele.
Yes MUR,
yesterday had a lot more drama, and it is really lacking
Agreed. Denmark must be thinking this is like a day of rest ahead of the knockout stages. That strategy usually doesn't work
Clue?
It remains Australia 0-2 Peru in Sochi, which means that as things stand in Moscow, France will go into the last 16 as Group C winners with Denmark advancing as runners-up.
Former Hornet, Andre Carrillo, gets a standing ovation for stinging the AUssies with that opening goal as he's substituted.
Don't know, MUR, but I saw that this tournament has had more penalties than any previous one, and we are only at the group stage.
Hurtado booked for a clumsy foul on Juric
This is awful from Denmark!!
They should know the other score!!
Now I want France to score
The clue is that it has something to do with the results yesterday
Here's my answer, MUR: Spain and Portugal finished level on points and goal difference in Group B, only separated by goals scored. That also happened in 2010.
Peru flagged offside as Guerrero has a shot come off the post.
Neither team won but both qualified?
Sorry, Bob. That did not happen in 2010. Its to do with the results, not the placings.
Sorry . Incorrect.
Another clue is to focus on Group A instead of Group B
The streak is going to end boys!
There have been injury time goals but neither of these teams give a toss
Risdon wins an Ayussie corner
I think France does. Blame the Danes.
I'm afraid you're right, UWS. Bloody French!
It's a tough question, because it's a little obscure, but it happened yesterday as it did in 2010.
Mark Milligan booked for a foul on Cueva
Sorry, Bob. The French are trying. It's the Danes not trying to score.
Hurtado has a shot deflected for a corner off a pass from Guerrero.
I wish these two teams could be deducted points for this performance.
What's the answer before I have to go fill in the Erie Canal?
A quartet of stoppage time minutes from Sochi and a trio from Moscow.
Am I going to have to punch you for this on Sunday?
