US v. Curacao Live!
Greg Berhalter's US men's team have been resurgent in this Gold Cup, winning all three group matches without conceding a goal, including against Panama with several key players rested. Tonight, they face Curacao in the quarterfinals, with the prospect of a semifinal between either Jamaica or Panama on Wednesday night. Join me for all the fun tonight from 8:30 onward.

Good evening, Bob. Back from walkies with Sparky. Will be washing a few dishes then joining you for the action. The U.S. will face Jamaica in the semis with a win vs the Netherlands Antillies.
Evening, David! How has your weekend been?
It's been a great weekend . Thank you for asking. How about your weekend?
Teams in the tunnel now.
Key Curacao players are keeper, Eloy Room, the reserve keeper for PSV. He will probably be kept busy. Defender , Cuco Martina, on loan to Feyenoord from Everton will be forced to show why he is a Prem caliber defender and Cardiff p midfield player, Landro Bacuna. The remainder are playing for lower lever level Eredivisie, the top flight of Dutch footie, or in the Erste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch footie.
Berhalter with an unchanged line-up from the teams that won the first two group matches after resting some key players against Panama.
They're off from Philly.
And we're underway in Philadelphia tonight.
It's been a splendid weather weekend here, mate. 75 and lovely.
Decisions , decisions. Should I have a 24 oz can of Heinekken or a 12 oz bottle of Rolling Rock?
Quick start for the US with Pulisic just going wide.
OH!!! Pulisic goes on a long run on the counter and shoots wide./
I'm enjoying another Mow Master with dinner tonight. Good luck with your choices.
Wish we had some of that weather. Sound s like a lovely day . Been in the 90s this week.
Thanks, mate. A Heinnneken as the U.S. is playing the former Netherlands Antillies.
I think I enjoyed some Mow Masters during the visit to Fred Town last Summer.
Oh - great save by Room from Pulisic's effort!
OH!!! Eloy Room acrobatically tips over a shot from Pulisic off a run and pass from Zardes.
He's not going to leave the U.S. much room to shoot , mate!
Opted for Rolling Rock instead as it's a decent Philly beer and had Heinneken last night
Curacao has really improved the last few years, but it's team built basically on Dutch players and probably will continue to be so.
There you go, mate!
US with a good free kick chance now.
Nick Lima fouled by Statie near the Curacao corner flag.
There definitely seems to be a Clockwork Orange element to this side.
Jamaica defeated Panama 1-0 with a penalty from Darren Mattocks earlier today
Long clears for a Curacao corner.
I fancy us against Jamaica.
Will you be watching the US v. England women's match on Tuesday afternoon?
U.S counter off a shot corner gone wrong. Then lose the ball in midfield and Hooij is not too far over with a long range effort.
I will be watching that match for sure. It's a tossup with Crystal Dunn the weak link. Lucy Bronze and Nikita Parris may exploit that.
I should be around for the first half but I've got a class starting up at 4pm.
The other Gold Cup semi is Mexico vs Haiti. The other women's World Cup semi is Sweden vs Holland.
I wasn't aware that you were teaching the Summer sessions. How many classes are you teaching?
OH ! Nice long ball from Zimmerman , but an outstretched Tyler Boyd could not quite make the proper contact
Just the one, mate. I've taught it three summers in a row. It's my film class based on the book I published back in 2017. I love doing it and it's a few extra quid.
Sounds great for sure. Well done.
Thanks, mate!
YESSSSSSSSSS!!!! WESTOM MCKINIIE HEADS IN AT THE FAR POST OFF A GREAT CROSS FROM PULISIC.
GOAL! In you get! Mckennie nods home a delicious cross by Pusilic!
Nice patient possession and a nice pass from Arriola down the left to Pulisic resulted in that great cross to McKinnie.
Tyler Boyd just offside off a nice through ball.
Martina picks up a yellow card that rules him out of a prospective semi-final .
Shermaine Martina booked for cynically fouling Pulisic on a promising counter.
Nepumencho , of Oldham , goes on a solo run and a long range effort is deflected for a corner. The Oldham player will take the corner.
A horrible corner cleared by the first man, Zardes and showing why he's playing in L2.
LOL! Nice one, mate.
Cheers, mate.
Oh - Bradley side foots one just wide from the top of the D>
Long range effort from Bradley is wide off a nice long possession.
Long range effort from Gorre over for Curacao.
Nick Lima tackles for a Curacao corner off a run and pass from Bacuna.
Decent break there for Curacao, earns a corner.
Zardes clears the corner for another.
This side has definitely not been working on the corners this week.
OH!!! A much better corner and a free header from Darryl Lachman is inches over.
Famous last words from me. Finally a decent corner and Lochman had a free header which he thankfully ballooned over the top.
Oh - great ball through to Hore, but Ream did well to block him out. The half-time whistle really needs to come quickly so that the US team can regroup.
OH!!! Last ditch tackle by Tim Ream on Nepumenchio prevents and equalizer. A minute of stoppage time as the corner eludes everyone.
The U.S. lead 1-0 at the half , but were far from impressive.
And there it is thankfully. The US boys were in complete control up until the last ten minutes, where they worryingly started to give up too much possession.
The second half is underway from Philly.
We're back on for the second half now. The US leading 1-0 but there were worrying signs toward the end of the first half. Greg Berhalter may have to go to the bench before long.
Boyd and Arriola have been fairly anonymous so far tonight. They have to get in the match.
Poor cross from Tyler Boyd off a superb break led by Weston McKinnie.
First chance for Boyd to stretch his legs in the second half, but his touch failed him on the crossing opportunity.
I had a feeling that this team would not be a pushover once I read that the vast majority of their players are plying in the Dutch Leagues.
I'm liking Weston Mckennie - he seems an outstanding talent.
They do seem compact and somewhat dangerous on the break.
Tyler Boyd with a curler wide off a pass from Tim Ream.
Agreed with both statements. That's due to the Dutch influence. They may be a new emerging power in CONCACAF.
The US have started the second half as they finished the first half. I want to see more urgency from them.
I thought I heard earlier on that Patrick Kluivert is somehow involved in the operation.
That's correct. He has been influential in the Dutch players joining . PVA, the Palace left back may be playing for them in the near future.
Nepumnechio shoots just wide with a long range effort off a nice long possession.
Oh - great turn by Pulisic but he couldn't find Zardes in the box.
Zardes is down for some treatment now - he may need to come off soon.
Oh - Pulisic goes just wide there from the top of the box after a lovely lay off by Boyd. That might have sealed it.
OH!!!! Just wide by Pulisic off a pass from Tyler Boyd , who did well to collect a long pass from Zimmerman.
What role do you imagine Pulisic playing at Chelski next season? Is he the replacement for Hazard?
Oh - Steffen did well to hold on to that drive.
Looks as if Jordan Morris is being readied to replace either Boyd or Arriola.
I have a feeling he will start the season the bench, coming on late in matches. Probably coming on for Willian or Pedro.
Boyd it is who was just upended. Not the best night for the young phenom.
The U.S. definitely needs someone to provide a spark. It's Jordan Morris for Arriola. Hopefully that provides the much needed spark that is lacking.
Pedro will be a key player for them next season but I'm not sure that they have enough firepower up front.
Morris did well the other night against Panama as well as coming off the bench against T&T.
It's been an off night for several of the U.S. players . They will need to play better vs Jamaica.
Berhalter may also unleash Jozy (probably for Zardes) before long.
Statie is down for Curacao. Looks like he strained a muscle. He's had a decent match at left back.
Statie is stretchered off
He's replaced by Jurich Carolina, who plays for Den Bosch, in the Ditch second tier./
Hooi pulls back Pulisic and picks up a yellow for his efforts.
Hooi booked for a cynical shirt pull on Pulisic on the break.
Poor foul to concede there. Dangerous free kick now.
Arriola pulls down Arrias. about thirty yards from goal.
Steffen does well to gather th free kick amidst flying feet, but the offside flag was raised.
Curacao make another substitution as Van Kessel is on for Gorre.
Nice tackle by Darryl Lachman on Pulisic as he was through on goal on the break. The U.S. have a free kick fro a foul that occurred in the build up.
Oh - Zardes had a great chance there but lifted his effort over the bar. That might have sealed the win.
OH!! Better from the U.S. Arriola won a tackle in midfield , played a one two with Pulsic then went on a run down the left and his pass in the box was shot over by Zardes from close range.
The US have around ten minutes to weather now. Although there may be significant stoppage time to come.
Michael Maria, who plays for Cahrlotte Independence of the U.S.L. , on for Sharmaine Martina as that's the final roll of the dice for Curacao.
The U.S. have been gifted a corner from a poor back pass. Eloy Room drops the corner and Jordan Morris blasts over a close range effort.
Oh - Morris had a real chance from the corner. Blasted well over the mark.
A cross from Arrias is headed away by Aaron Long and a long range volley from Gino Van Kessel is sliced wide.
OH!!! Zack Steefen superbly tips over a long range curler from Bacuna.
Oh - great save by Steffen to keep his side in it!
The next long range effort from Bacuna is much easier as it's straight at Steffen.
Zardes heads a nice cross from Pulisic well over.
Curacao can take pride in their performance this tournament regardless the result.
Decent save by Eloy Room of a long range effort from Bradley off a pass from Zardes , who did well to win a tackle.
A Barber Shop Quartet of stoppage time minutes as this has been a close shave for the U.S.
Long range effort from Gino Van Kessel is well wide.
A time wasting sub from Coach B as Omar Gonzalez is on for Arriola.
Nearly there now. Hang in there, boys!
I'd rather not see Omar Gonzalez on even as a time wasting effort. He's liable to give up a pen or an o.g.
Full-time - not a vintage performance but it's a fourth clean sheet on the trot to put the US into the semis with Jamaica.
PHEW! The U.S. hang on to win 1-0 despite a really poor performance. Expecting better vs Jamaica on Wednesday.
True, Bob. Hopefully they play better on Wednesday.
That's it for me, mate. Nice chatting with you. Enjoy your evening!
Cheerio!
Hope you have a great start to the week . Great chatting with you and look forward to chatting Tuesday afternoon.
