England Wrap Up Their Euro 2020 Campaign
While they have their detractors and skeptics, even on this blog, the current England team are, IMHO, the best certainly since Bobby Robson's side that made it to the 1990 World Cup semi-final stage, but perhaps even since Alf Ramsay's 1970 side that gave Pele's Brazil a good game. They have simply sailed through this qualifying campaign for Euro 2020, with one hiccup away to the Czech Republic. Today, they wrap up that campaign away to Kosovo. Come on, England!

A very good Sunday morning to all of you England fans. There is nothing of great significance that rests on this game. But Gareth Southgate was right to say in the build-up that “seeding could be crucial”, and England need to win to guarantee that they will be in the top group of seeds for the Euro 2020 final tournament draw (at 5pm GMT on Saturday 30 November), which would probably make their progress through the tournament a great deal smoother, and as an added bonus would guarantee that they play all their group games at Wembley.
The team news out of Kosovo this afternoon:
Kosovo: Muric, Hadergjonaj, Aliti, Rashica, Celina, Rrahmani, V Berisha, Vojvoda, Kololli, Dresevic, Nuhiu.
England: Pope, Alexander-Arnold, Maguire, Mings, Chilwell, Winks, Rice, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Hudson-Odoi, Sterling, Kane.
Morning Boys
Still not sure why Prez#4 doesn't get a start
I have the link on my Apple TV saying it will start at 11:50...hopefully I am in
Good morning, Bob and Dave. Here to join you for England's final qualifying match before they play three Group D matches at Wembley in June
I will be watching the match on TUDN because I always prefer to watch televised matches.
That will mean you're ahead of us...that is if Bob hasn't blocked me again!
In Group B Portugal won 0-2 in Luxembourg while it finished Desmond between Serbia and Ukraine in Belgrade. Portugal qualify for the Euros and Serbia will be in the playoffs in March
Why Bob would never block anyone, LOL!
Big results for Wales yesterday
They won in Azer and Croatia came from behind to beat Slovakia 3-1 which means if Wales beat Hungary at home on Tuesday they will qualify
Wycombe won today to go top of League 1 this morning
They are three points ahead of Ipswich but Town have two games in hand
Coverage has just started on TUDN from the Pristine City , Kosovo.
My link is trying to load....no luck yet
YES!!!
It opens!!
Looks like England will be in all white today
Is a top seed still in question?
What has to happen for them not to be top seed?
Teams in the tunnel
Must win for both Wales and Ireland. If Wales lose then the go to Path B in the playoffs. If Republic of Ireland defeats Denmark tomorrow then they will qualify and go into Group E with Spain. A draw will be made to see if Ireland or Spain will be the host nation for the group as the matches will be played in Dublin or Bilbao. Otherwise Ireland is in the playoffs and Spain will be the host nation in Group E
Kane has 11 goals in 2019... the record is 12... by Dixie Dean!!
I'd like to see Kane score 60 goals in a league season like Dixie did for the Toffees
England is the seeded team for Group D this Summer. It is already confirmed
National Anthems being played
Wales just need to win and their in
Congratulations to Finland for qualifying for their first veer Euros and first ever major tournament
Koso fans holding up the Cross of St George
They are appreciative of England during their independent
Did you hear my big news David? I know Bob knows
The same is true for the Republic of Ireland tomorrow vs Denmark . Then a draw would be made to see if they or Spain would be at home for all three Group E matches
No I didn't . What is the big news, Dave
Come on England
Come on England
Come on England
Hiya, boys! Great to have you on board. Not sure what happened with the ESPN+ link the other day, lads. I've only ever shared it with the LOB crowd. Shouldn't be that many people on it.
Happily, I'm up on the site and the coverage is blasting at The Cottage.
The winner of Path D in the playoffs is will also qualify for their first ever Euro and major tournament.
Semis: Georgia vs Belarus
North Macedonia vs Kosovo
Winners meet in the final
They're off from the Pristine City
Well.. on Veteran's Day... Kath and I went shopping. When we got home, I was on my computer and she asked me to close my laptop
She said.... the boys are going to England.... AND YOU ARE GOING TOO!!
She bought me a ticket thanks to Steve, via Bob.
She is making me going even tho it will be over Christmas
My sister called Old Trafford and I have a ticket in the same suite as the boys for the Boxing Day fixture vs The Toon!!
I AM GOBSMACKED
COME ON ENGLAND
We are off
People don't seem to talking but the seeding
WOW! That's amazing. That's a once in a lifetime experience. I'm really delighted for you
The Ox is down hurt!
looks to be ok
That's what Kath said!
If England win their group in June then the round of 16 is in Copenhagen, the quarters in At. Pete with the semis and the final at Wembley. They're closer to being a host nation than anyone else
Well done, Kathy
Hello Bob...no...we were saying you shared it with the entire University
Come on England
Get on the front foot
Come on, England!
She's a keeper
Oh - I never!!!
The other match in the group is Transylvania vs the Czechs. There will be moire people blogging on the LOB than watching the match in Sophia
I'm hoping that you'll have a marvelous Christmas trip, Dave.
Well done, Kathy!
England finally go forward
Of course, it is Maguire with the first shot!
Oh - early scare for England. Pope did well.
Thanks Mate
We were going to keep secret to Tony but he was down in the dumps and I Facetimed him and he just lit up!
I think England is seeded in Group D as the host Nation. If Scotland qualify from the playoffs they will be in Group D with England with two matches at Hampden and the the match vs the Auld Enemy at Wembley. They will play all their playoff matches at Hampden as the Number One seed in Path C. COR!
Any chance of visiting Tony and Debs on the trip or will you be in Greater Manchester the whole trip?
The right flank has been a centre of sloppiness for England so far, with Sterling giving the ball away a couple of times, and now Alexander-Arnold doing so too.
Based on google match I estimate that I walked two and a quarter miles this morning while I took advantage of the lovely weather
Fantastic - I'm hoping it's a real lift for Tony to see his little bruvver.
Lovely here, too. Colder than in Texas but bright and sunny with snow still on the ground. Love it.
Morning lads, disappointed that ESPN isn't offering the match on the box. This streaming while better than nothing is second best and alllowing TUDO-whatever to have the only coverage is a super bore. Watching this on my lappy, some 40 seconds delayed too.
England look as if they can't be bothered at this point.
Welcome, Gooner. I agree with you and one of the ESPN channels could have been employed for this one.
Good morning, Steve.,I'm watching on TUDN. Stoichkov not the analyst in this match as he has been in others.
Welcome Steve!
I sent you text but I don't know if you received it
Thank you so much for your part with Kathy getting to England
I think the ESPN channels only televise on a weekday unless it's the actual tournament
Too much passing from England...COME ON...GO FORWARD
Well done, Steve and Kathy. It should be the experience of a lifetime
Another good thing for Dave is at least there will be no Arlo, Lee , and Le Socks as the marquee match that day is the Foxes vs Pool.
A shot from Sterling is straight at Muric, but pushed away then cleared for a corner. Better from England
Canteen Attack Boy with a decent effort... I wish there was someone coming down the right
Oh - first big chance for Sterling. Beaten away by the keeper.
Corner from TAA is headed away by the first man
I think the Kosovo keeper is on loan at Forest from Citeh
I think I am going to be driving my sister car from Suffolk to Old Trafford early Boxing Day morning. Get there around noon... just walk around in awe for a while... go the mega store. We can go into the suite 3 hours before kick off and stay an hour after
I'm busting
Hi Dave, you are really welcome. The price didn't include the mandate to post photos of all of you at OT. Have fun.
Haderjanjaj , of the Terriers , wins a corner off of Chilly
Just remember that the steering wheel is on the right side of the car and that you drive on the left side of the road. Don't make the same mistake as Chevy Chase!
I sure will Steve!!
Of course it was too much money for the plane
Of course it was too much money for the match
BUT once in a lifetime!!
Going to Old Trafford with Tom and Matt!
Neither team is probably up for the match as everything is done and dusted in the group.
You are also required to have a battered sausage and chips at Lou Macari's Chip Shop across from OT.
It's worth it, Dave. Fantastic!
Agreed, Bob. That's a must.
Really happy for you, mate. I always felt bad that Steve and I had visited Old Trafford but that you hadn't. Time to set that to rights.
Lisa called up Old Trafford and explained where the boys were already with their tickets. The guy said it was sold out but would wait for his manager the next day. He actually called later the same day to say that he hadn't forgotten about her. The next day he called to say he got a ticket in the same suite and a few rows away from the boys!
Thanks Bob
Nice England passing sequence on the counter, but the final ball to Sterling was off.
Oh - interesting idea from TAA there. Just didn't fall for a teammate.
I tried to look where it was...looks like it is behind the SAF Stand...not too close
WOW ! An Amazing family outing
I'm getting there earlier enough to find it
I know I'm being culturally insensitive but so be it.
Haderjanjaj looks like just a random group of letters typed out. Who's playing at right back? "Qwertyuiop?"
Kosovo's 68 year old Swiss coach more like a grumpy old geezer
I wish that the footie was all on NBC. For me, it's an ungulfable chasm between the NBC's coverage of the Prem and any other football coverage. Those Yank stiffs that present the CL are the worst, but really, it's NBC or a load of old bollocks.
LOL, Bob. I think most of the Kosovars have Albanian names. Is that correct?
Asdfghjkl missed a late fitness test, but we might see Zxcvbnm in the second half.
Agreed, mate - NBC has put all the others to shame. A few have picked up a few tips from NBC - the female British host, the tunnel action - but they still haven't got it right.
Agreed, Steve. That's an accurate description of the coverage
Just looked it up...I was wrong...it's on the road toward OT from the crick ground
Now I have to figure out where to park
LOL! Too right, Gooner.
aergihthrbeuilhglhh the danger man for Kosovo
Nice pass from Sterling , but the header back from Harry Kane was way off.
Shoot it Kane!!
Not impressed so far
I believe England needs to goals to surpass Belgium as the top scorers in qualifying.
I am not pleased with NBC how they are not airing all the matches and force people to play
I am not pleased with NBC about their commercials...they are worse than FOX now
Harry Winks called for a, foul on Lazio striker, Berisha
England were 4-0 up on the Montenegrins the other day. Kosovo have done well to frustrate England for the first half hour.
I believe that just about all the Kosovo players were born and raised in various Western European countries , but qualify through their parents.
Hudson-Odoi with a deflected effort straight to Muric then Harry Kane with a shot blocked
I don't like the way the side is laid out today. I hate the rope-a-dope counter-attacking tactics. Have we covered why it's important to finish top, other than the embarrassment of being second in a group of Kosovo, Montenegro, the Czechs, and Bulgaria. I mean, which of us didn't think, Wahey when we got that group?
YESSSSSS!!!
Harry Winks scores his first goal for the national side.
YES!!!
WINKS SCORES FOR ENGLAND!
Straight thru the middle!
Where was everyone?
GOAL !!!HARRY WINKS GIVES ENGLAND THE LEAD WITH HIS FIRST GOAL FOR THE THREE LIONS
Great ball through from Kane to Winks and his first touch took him pats the defender. Easy finish from there.
1-0!
Nice pass from the Ox off nice first time passing from England, but Kosovo were very generous by leaving a gap in the center of their defense the size of Lake Erie
The Terriers right back played down the right , but crosses straight to Pope.
Pope's clearance awful, middie touch terrible...Belgium would have scored from that
NEED TO STOP
Pochie must be fuming. For him those two are the disinterested waiters having a crafty smoke outside while all the tables are waiting for their starters to be cleared and for their entrees to arrive and their waters refilled, Nice combination and England are one-up.
No Michael Keane in the starting lineup, so it will be much more difficult for Kosovo to score than at St. Mary's
England only get a goal so far when I'm watching
When Bob shut me out of coverage....THEY SCORE SEVEN!
LOL! Nice description, Steve. Anyone interested in waiting on those tables?
Isn't seven you're lucky number. England so thirsty they went seven up when they scored at the end
Southgate says he is going to play players in form
The Ox never plays for Liverpool....apart from CL matches!
Yet, he gets two starts in two
Maddison running the show for the Foxes... starts neither
Still 0-0 in the empty stadium, which is absolutely meaningless.
Boys will also be going to see West Ham vs Leicester on 12/28
Swans striker , Celina, shoots well over.
Maddeson's omission is particularly perplexing.
Southgate needs to clarify that statement or do what he says
MUR?
England break ended by a less than Sterling pass.
Ah - shame, England were off to the races but Hudson-Odoi played a wayward pass.
Still annoyed with his casino exploits
Pretty bad from Hudson !
Then a poor pass by Maguire
COME ON ENGLAND
I agree, Gooner. There's some about Maddison that Southgate doesn't fancy, clearly. Perhaps he's a lazy trainer?
That should be an interesting match at the London stadium and a great even filled couple of days
The Fourth President gambling at the casino? Is that an impeachable offense?
I do with the boys would watch a match in a smaller place than OT and London Stadium... not what I grew up with
I wanted to go down to Fratton Park the day we arrive and see the Tractor Boys
No stoppage time and England one up at the half.
HT
England one up but pretty useless
England troop in on course for another qualifying match win thanks to a goal from Harry Winks.
Could be. Maddison certainly looks like he takes a daily spa-treatment.
Ooof, do us a favor and quiet the awful half-time tunes.
Pompey vs the Tractor Boys is on Jacquelyn's birthday. I think my brother saw those two play at PR around 2000.
It's 0-0 at the half in the other match
Back for the second half
Come on England... play better!
The second half is underway from the Pristine City
Teams are back out for the second half now.
We are off
England are going sideways and backwards too much
BLOODY MODERN DAY FOOTBALL
Early free kick chance now for England after Raheem is upended.
Decent ball in from TAA but no one willing to stick a toe on it.
Hoddle and Waddle both commentating on today's match
One on Telly one on radio
Three First Names free kick when into a dangerous area...no one there
The Ox whiffs it and it slices for a corner
Kosovo player doesn't have the ball in the arc for the corner....ANOTHER ANNOYING thing about modern football
What's the point!
Shot wide deflected just wide
I don't know why England don't attack teams like this
Nothing to lose...so go win!
There doesn't seem to be any intensity... why?
Dave, I'm not sure if this answers your question about seeded teams this Summer.
Seeded teams:
Group A :Italy, who will play all their group matches in Rome
Group B : Russia or Denmark. Either Russia will play all three group matches in St. Pete or the Danes all three in Copenhagen
Group C: Holland: Will play all three group matches in Amsterdam
Group D: England: Will play all three group matches at Wembley
Group E: Spain or Ireland. Either Spain will play all three group matches in Bilbao or Ireland all three group matches in Dublin
Group F:Germany or Hungary. Either Germany will play all three group matches in Munich or Hungary all three group matches in Budapest.
Groups B, E , and F are pending the results of Wales vs Hungary and Ireland v Denmark
Kosovo appear to think that they have a chance to get back into this match. We should put an end to those delusions.
Any questions about the groups?
Make some changes Gareth...these guys don't seem up to it
Harry still hasn't equaled Dixie's record
LOL, Bob. They need to be thinking about the trip to North Macedonia in March. Why North Macedonia instead of Macedonia? How about East, South , or west?
From Waddle
There has been a lack of composure, I do not think there has been enough urgency. England cannot play like that, they need to play at a higher tempo. They are playing too slow. When you look at the England team tonight, they have done okay - that's not a good thing.
Thanks for that info, MUR - very helpful.
COME ON HARRY. PULL YOUR FINGER OUT!
Cheers, Bob. Any questions?
Useless free kick by Chillwell... come on!!
Doesn't really answer the #1 seed question
Looks like they already are
I think neither team is up for the match because they know everything is done and dusted
I really rate England's chances this summer. This side can put the frighteners on any of those sides.
Thanks for this coverage Bob
AND NOT THURSDAY
The Guardian blog indicated that they need a win today to be in the top group of seeds, UWS.
Bulgaria takes the lead vs the Czechs . Doesn't mean squat other than Monte will be getting the wooden in this group
I understand now. A host nation in the group may not be a seeded team. A seeded team will get easier opponents, meaning England has an easier group if they're seeded . Am I understanding the question?
Weak effort from HO...and he's off
On comes Rash.
Bring on Maddison
Hudson-Odoi blasts and shot well over the bar after a nice run and then is replaced by Marcus Rashford.
Won't each group be sort of even
Since England already have a group at home...aren't they #1 seed
Yeah - I'd like to see Maddison on for Winks right about now.
Or the Ox
If the Jocks qualify from the playoffs they will be in England's group whether or not England are seeded. I think England being seeded means that their other two opponents would be easier opponents that are not " a host city."
Decent effort from Rash... Sterling sets up Kane...off the post
Oh - Kane hits the Sunday Roast after receiveng a pass from Sterling.
Harry Kane and Not Abel to score as his shot is beaten away by Forest loanee, Muric
Three First Names.... atrocious !!
Sorry, the Sunday Roast on a Sunday.
It wasn't Rash's first shot
It's all gotten too complicated for me. I'd like to get back to the one country as host model with eight groups topped by seeded teams.
I guess England being seeded means they would get the winner of Path D from the playoffs as opposed to France or Sweden. To be honest , UEFA has really complicated everything this time out and it's a bit confusing
I think it will be back to one host country next tournament. This was Platini's stroke of genius. He called this tournament " A Tour of Europe " to celebrate 60 years of the Euros. I call it Tour De Farce.
I appreciate your effort to sort it all out, MUR. I don't know which end is up with it all.
That's a good name for it, for sure.
Make another change... I don't get it with Maddison
Talksport said avoid defeat and England with be top seed
Rash runs with the ball... tries too much... get a shot off
Rash took too long to shoot and was easily dispossessed.
That's my understanding, too. Probably why Gareth is being cautious now with the subs.
Thanks, Bob. I'm trying my best to understand it. I feel like I'm studying for a college exam. Thought you would find the name humorous.
Kosovo should have tied it up. England caught out and it's shot straight at Nick Pope
There's only twenty minutes left...why hasn't others been given a game
I want diagrams and pictures MUR!
This match and performance is really annoying me
I think I'd prefer to see Jadon Sancho start ahead of Marcus Rashford. Sorry, boys - Sancho is in better form.
I'll try my best, UWS. The diagrams on Wikipedia are really helpful.
Agreed, Bob and Dave. Really frustrating to watch
I wish England would press forward, but given the circumstances I understand why they're merely protecting their lead. A win is all-important.
