Lakenheath Old Boys
We are all former students at Lakenheath High School and other public schools in East Anglia. We were in school in the 70s and 80s and drank deeply from the well of British culture of those decades - the pints, the telly, and of course the footie!

Hiya, Dave - thanks for getting us started today. As I texted, I'm in the middle of a boring Zoom session and will be winging on home just in time for kick-off.
Looking forward to it!
Looking forward to seeing Bayern rogering Lyon.
BAYERN MUNICH TEAM NEWS
Team to play Lyon: Neuer, Kimmich, Boateng, Alaba, Davies, Goretzka, Thiago, Gnabry, Muller, Perisic, Lewandowski.
LYON TEAM NEWS
Team to play Bayern Munich: Lopes, Denayer, Marcelo, Marcal, Dubois, Caqueret, Guimaraes, Aouar, Cornet, Ekambi, Depay.
From Sky Sports
Perhaps the one disappointed face will be Moussa Dembele - not able to force his way into the starting line-up despite his late double on Saturday.
That's a formidable Munich side.
Wonder if Bob is almost finishing Zooming and is zooming home
Hiya guys - I'm home from campus and settling in with a beverage and a snack for the match.
On chat with Expedia trying to get a refund for my flight on BA from HR to Glasgow!
Was supposed to go to a wedding in Oct
Next up.... trying get in touch with Virgin!!
They need to be more understanding !!
Alex and Peter with Old Big Ears!
Carra has to put in 6 times comment!
Did you zoom after you Zoomed
Peter Schmeichel is again showing Carrandona how to do business casual. Smart black polo buttoned the top, pressed chinos, sports coat. Meanwhile Carra has got the same three piece clobber that he's been wearing for the past two weeks, as if he's stepped out of a Wilkie Collins novel.
I bloody well, did, mate. I'm known as the Green Flash around campus for my speedy biking. ;-)
Teams coming out of the tunnel now.
Steve - is it really "Guh-nabry" or is Peter Dreary just botching Serge's last name?
We're under way in Lisbon then.
DiPi.....shows his United form....you have to score!!
Oh - Depay had a great chance to fire Lyon into a shock lead. Big miss.
Notice that cross from Bayern.... FIVE players inside the box!!
Are you watching OGS
If that had gone in, we really would have had a match on. Clearly Lyon's game plan is to sit tight and launch Depay on the break.
He's giving it out a bit with his Guh.
But Serge pronounces the G which is dead wrong. It's silent, and should be pronounce NAB=ry.
I'm giving Dreary a pass because there's so much worse from him.
Lyon making a good early fist of it. Corner won now.
Oh - Goretska did a nice one-two but then didn't connect with it. It nearly trickled in anyway and Lopes had to make sure.
Lyon are making a go of this
Oh - Depay had a chance to play a teammate in there but rifled a shot well wide instead.
Who are the 5 in your forward positions that if they flooded the box on an attacking cross, would be there to challenge.
When we had Henry who played like he had a plasticene skull, I never could understand who the hell the cross was targeting.
If you want an end product that heads in a cross, surely you need to get shopping, because that's not the Rash, or Martial, or really, even Greenwood.
Yeah - this is a much better game than I'd expected.
Lyon almost in again...how can he not beat the man with the cross!!
STUNNING!
True - you haven't really had a big target man on the end of a cross since the days of Zlatan and The Chunk. It's not really how United play these days.
If you like, I'll do a swapsies with you - Patrick Bamford for Bruno Fernandes. Deal?
totally agree Steve.... but having people in the box is a start....United get two at most!
I cannot believe that Kate Abdo has a job when she's on the same broadcast as Alex Scott. Move Kate and her Paris Hilton style and bring in a cute and articulate former footballer.
Patstink Bamsuck for our assistant tea lady...she would probably take less chances to score
True enough, Steve. Kate Abso is the reincarnation of "Downtown" Julie Brown. Move her along to some end of the cable system music video site.
How did Lyon not score!!
They are wide open every time they go forward!
Should be three nil!!
Could easily have been another Lyon goal - they'll rue these misses.
AND BAYERN SCORE!
GOAL! Oh - look at that from Gnabry - unstoppable!
Gunners and Baggies reject with a great finish
Yeah, your focus should be on plugging in Pogs to the mains so he shows up, and seeing if Bruno can somehow find a playing rhythm with him. You've got the most exciting young players, the Rash and Greenwood, along with Martial. But the key is that you're not getting even 25% out of Pogs. The morale must be in the basement for his teammates.
TOTGA, with a stunning strike. Are you watching Arsene?
LOL! You maybe right about the OT tea lady, Dave. We'll see.
Your earlier point illustrated Bob.
Lyon really ruing those early missed chances now. There was no stopping that Gnabry effort but they could still be at parity.
I don't believe Barca had as good chances as Lyon did
Bayern have a free kick chance now.
Will there be all red vs all blue on Sunday... or will they change!!
Oh - nice little chipped effort from Thiago to Muller who whiffed on it.
Do you like Leeds new shirt? Not sure about the sponsor!
SBOTOP?
The problem is morale.
Arteta's told Ozil to shape up or piss off. Ozil picked the latter and Arteta's gone from strength to strength. Ozil and Guendouzi don't cross our players' minds any more.
Contrast that with what must be going through the minds of your players watching Pogs amble around the pitch in safe areas. He needs the toughest of love, but I fear that approach would just move him on. I don't see him knuckling down any time soon.
Probably, putting together a system that gives your capable strikers a platform off hard working Bruno is the answer.
Not that I want to see that, one little bit.
I like the shirt alright - the sponsor seems naff, though.
Agreed - United would be better off shifting Pogba sooner rather than later.
Notice the goal was scored with a half a step opening.... he didn't cut back and try and beat someone again!
Yeah, the direct approach does wonders.
The key to the goal was that Gnabry controlled it into space for himself rather than trapping it the way most players would do these days. That meant that he had that step on the defenders and could attack the space with purpose.
It's the Pepe vs Auba example. You put the ball into space for Pepe to run on to and he'll run it past his marker but then look to feed it into a colleague. Auba gets that through ball and he's not finished until he has a shot on goal.
Some betting company
Two nil!!!
How did the first bloke not score?
Arsenal Reject with his second!
Again.... so many in the box!!!!!
Oh, lining up to put that one in. 2-0 Munich.
How did Lewa miss that?
GOAL! Gnabry has a brace! Lewandowski should have scored. Gnabry did.
2-0 Bayern!
You're spelling Arsene wrong Dave.
That goal totally changes the game plan. Lyon will have to chase the match in the second half now and they will risk being torn apart.
Lewandowski misses another chance
Oh - another big miss for Lewandowski. Did he leave his contacts out today? Extraordinary!
Right, Bob. It was pretty aspirational of Lyon to play such attacking stuff and certainly needed much sharper finishing to execute the plan.
Now, it's a very steep climb. Essential that they score before the half to maybe keep Munich from bombing forward.
Did Lewa sustain a more serious vision injury than it looked like. That's two shockers in a row.
That's how he'd be playing if he went to OT
What was the deal Gnabry at Arsenal?
Did he hardly play?
Was he a big signing?
A kid?
Wenger didn't bought him then didn't rate him?
Again, Lyon should have been three nil up!
Di Pi breakaway, the simple cross to a man wide open...couldn't beat the man and then the hit post
Oof! Marcel with quite a body check on Lewa there. He felt that one.
So Bayern's time in the CL since the restart.... approaching 2.5 games.... Goals against... 3. Goals for.....14
Goretska pulled the trigger but hit Mueller's heel the effort.
HT
Bayern two up and cruising
He was an academy kid that we scouted as a kid. Then we sent him to West Brom and Tony Pulis on loan. That was a predictably shitty experience and afterwards when it became time to renew his contract, Gnabry decided that Wenger had not shown proper faith in him, and Munich came in and snaffled a Bosman. It was not the first time that alarm bells about Arsenal the busines should have been ringing, and not the first time fans started wondering if Wenger still had the nous necessary.
That's half-time, then. PSG were good yesterday, but you'd fancy Bayern on this form.
Wenger said that Gnabry was as bright a talent as he'd seen before, but didn't back that up with shows of faith. Sending him into Pulis's clutches would make me wonder. You wonder what Wenger thought Serge might learn from that experience, don't you? A bad idea turned into a bad result.
Thanks for the explanation, Steve
Micah sucks!
Micah doesn't have a TV personality.
Looking at the second goal.... Four guys running in the box
I always tell my players, as i was always told, first man in the box goes to the front post because that is where the ball will go first
United don't do that.... they only have ONE guy running into the box....and he's hidden behind a defender
Good Afternoon everyone.
CBS thinks that any dolly-bird, and collection of old pros is the answer. Whomever is the producer should just look at the NBC line up and see past that template.
Rebecka Lowe is football made and she conveys that on screen.
And somehow, MLS also ran Kyle, journeyman Robbie, and the un-crazy guy in the crazy gang, Robbie gelled. But cast your mind back. It didn't work at first but they've become a professional unit.
Carra's got a mouth that engages before his brain does, nice-guy Roberto's personality doesn't translate, and Micah's a stiff. And Kate Abdo for all her experience sounds like she swotted up furiously right up to broadcast tiem.
That said, this is better than that basketball star, Stu, and Maurice.
Alex and Peter are a great couple if they can keep them.
Hiya David.
Thiago Mendes on for Bruno Guimares as Lyon makes a much needed change . Nicky Sule on for Boateng as Bayern makes a change too. Second half underway
Good Afternoon, Steve.
We are off... Brace scorer...still can't get on
Only one change by Lyon... a midfielder
Lyon and Leipzig both in the same group
Got home a few minutes late for the first half, but rewound and watched. Enjoyed watching Bayern despite Lyon missing a couple of sitters
Welcome David
I mentioned that change at 4:02
Good Afternoon, Dave
Afternoon, David! How are you, mate?
Former Gunner sure doing much better than the former United player, especially with the finishing
Doing well, thank you for asking
not sure about his tache
Perisic should have put Bayern three up. . Superb through ball and tame effort with just Lopes to beat
The Croat is thru....saved
How are these guys getting so wide ope
The guys are wide open because they are making the run and the ball is passed forward
United would go sideways, get it Matic who will find De Gea with a great pass
I agree with what you all stated in the first half that Bayern will win on Sun day if they play as well as today with the exception of the two early Lyon chances
Great defensive clearance by SUle off the cross intended for D 3.14 Lyon corner. Newer easily saves a header from the corner
Decent corner...header...saved
Oh - free header there for Marcelo. Right at Neuer.
Demebele on for the former United player of circular logic
Memphis Tennessee is off and Dembele on
Another Brace?
Moussa Dembele comes on and has an immediate effect!
Lyon with a great chance....saved!!!
YOU HAVE TO SCORE!
Lyon should have scored. Nice passing from, Aouar and Dembele should have scored, but good close reflex block from Newer
Memphis played more like he was on a tour of Graceland than in a CL semifinal
Nice math pun, David. I have no idea what circular logic is but it sounds convincing.
Lyon have created more chances than Barca
Cheers , Bob. Basically it means that your talking a bunch of rubbish AKA BS because you're going around in circles chasing your tail
Not sure if it's like for like but similar for similar as Kingsley Coman on for Perisic
Nice solo run by Aouar and nice tackle for a corner by David
Lyon are giving it a go - they haven't given up which is admirable under the circumstances.
Former Gunner, Jeff Adelaide, Australia , on for Ekambi
Lyon shaming Barca in that respect or disrespect if you're talking about Barca
Muller manages to ge the ball over... not rocket science
Cornet more like a an out of tune corny coronet with at foul on Thomas Muller
Kingsley Coman with a cross blocked for a Bayern corner
Lyon attack of the Bayern corner
Bob, kids back on campus?
No faffing at the back from Bayern. Wish other teams would follow suit
Jerky Cherki on for Marcal for Lyon
Yeah - we've had a staggered move in. The juniors and seniors came back two weeks ago and the frosh and sophomores moved in last weekend.
Does the new semester start on Monday?
We had our opening meeting for the College of Education today, so I'm officially not chair anymore. Loving life!
Coutinho on for the former Gunner who has scored both goals this match
Yeah - my first class is Monday at 5pm.
Congrats!!
Work? What is this of what you speak?
Bayern have not been that impressive today
That's great Bob. Does the new semester start on Monday?
Premier League fixtures being released tomorrow morning before we get up.
Let's see if David's leaked slate was the real deal
Lyon not really any worse than against Citeh. Just that Bayern is many levels ahead of Citeh
A lot of skeptics are carping that we'll be shut down within two weeks, but I have confidence that we can do this.
how many classes will you teach/
5 pm on Sunday.... you'll be missing the end of any Leeds' Monday Night Football matches
I read it on google on Monday. Wouldn't be surprised if it's a different set of fixtures than I read.
Good luck
Just wide by Coutinho.
Coutinho tries a curler into the corner. Well wide.
i saw that list on the Sun website after you told me
I second that. Good luck, Bob
GOAL !!! COUTINHO PUT BAYERN THREE UP. nO DISALLOWED AND HE WAS WELL OFF ON THE FINAL PASS
Thanks, mate. I'm teaching three classes. 5-8pm on Monday. 2-5pm on Tuesdays and 4-7pm on Thursdays.
Coutinho off the bench to score again but they will check on offside...looked on if not for a late touch
Mr Not have to get up very early Then?
Bob, sad to say , but the talk on closing in two weeks is the off campus parties that have led to cases. That's why Elizabeth and I fear for Melanie's safety. Her semester starts Monday as well.
Great hit.... blocked by Muller!!
Just saw that. Bob can sleep in till noon, LOL
Is Melanie back on campus David?
Double Bayern change
I can't wait to see who we've got up first. I hope it's one of the big boys.
Pavard on for Goretzka.
I'm back. Melanie phoned just before the half started that she won't be home for dinner, so I had to bolt over to the store for meat and chicken. It's on tonight and no joke.
I've had the feed on and watching as I put the chicken and meat in the marinade. Bayern look to be conserving energy from the 55th minute. They are that confident.
Did she have to quarantine with the whole house for a week.
My friend's granddaughter had do that
That's going to the key factor - whether we can convince the students to be disciplined in order to have some kind of college experience. If they can't then we're back to square one.
Melanie lives off campus, but has gone this week for marching band practice. Based on my conversation with her they are taking excellent precautions. My fear is that the off campus parties will lead to cases. Hopefully I'm wrong.
You are cooking for Melanie, Steve?
The younger crowd are being pretty mindless with this stuff!!
Jacquelyn starts classes on August 31st. She goes to the local community college and thankfully all her classes are online
Good God, Pavard would start anywhere and he's sub at Bayern.
That was another reality check seeing that guy in the World Cup. There was a day when as a flash Frenchman, he'd have been scouted and snaffled up, but not in Wenger's declining years.
I am so happy i don't have to deal with all of the training, protocol and new world of the classroom
What's for dinner, Steve. We're grilling some Tuscany sausages and serving that with a summer corn salad and fruit.
Bit of a celebration for my ending my tenure as chair.
Our local community college, where Kathy works, is all on line too
She works three days a week and has been bombarded these last few weeks
She does work Wednesday but today the campus is closed for emergency response training
Back to the footer, I think Bayern have been disappointing tonight.... just save it to hammer PSG
Melanie hasn't quarantined. She lives in a regular apartment complex that is mainly occupied by college students.
Not cooking for Melanie. The meat fest is on.
She's going to order in for herself and her parents and hang out with them. I'd have put together a quick pasta if she'd let me know that's what she wanted to do. I think it's a game-time decision. The quarantine has been hard on my in-laws.
THREE NIL!!!
Lew.... gets his goal
GOAL !!!BAYERN GO THREE U. NICE HEADER OFF A NICE CROSS
GOAL! Lewandowski finally gets his goal and Bayern are 3-0 up!
I can imagine, Steve
Damn, that's gutting for Lyon. Munich looked like they were just letting the game drift to the 90, and then up jumps Lewa like a big scary werewolf. 3-0.
goals in 9 straight games....how many has Lukaku scored? Is it 11
Bloody hell - 55 goals this season. That's Pele numbers.
He's elbowed in the head for the second time in this game!
More elbows than goals for Robert
Say hi to Mel and Caroline for me when you do see them, Steve.
I second that , Steve. Sorry your in-laws are having to quarantine., Hope things improve
Ta David. I know you and Kathy know exactly. Your example with her dad inspired how I approached my Dad, my Aunt, and now my in-laws.
Dixie Dean numbers
60 in the First Division for the Toffees
Thanks Steve.
It's Bayern vs PSG in the final as expected
Bayern still having many men in the box!
That's also How I'm approaching my father-in-law as well
Yeah David. We've decided that Melanie can be in their quarantine. When they're out at doctor's appointments, Eric and I sneak in and deliver food and re-set their WiFi and unmute their telly for them. A ninja IT and food service.
It's over and Bayern face PSG in the final as they convincingly defeat Lyon 3-0
Well done Eric and Steve
That's it
Bayern make the Final!!
So the Final Four for this never ending season
Inter and Sevlla
Bayern and PSG
What....NO FOOTBALL TOMORROW!!!!!
Reunion between Gnabry and Jeff Adelaide. Steve might know why
Take care boys
Talk to you on Friday
That's that then. Bayern on to the final with PSG on Sunday. Let's hope that they go at each other.
EL Final Friday and CL Final on Friday
Well, that ran to form. After Lyon bollixed up those two chances in the first 10 minutes, it was never in doubt.
I hope Munich can rest up and display this brilliance against PSG.
Nice to see that Gnabry and the Jeff are still pals. They can look to similar stops and starts at the Emirates.
Enjoy the meat fest, Steve!
Cheerio, everybody!
Cheers everyone. Great chatting and look forward to chatting Friday
