Even More Nations League Action on the Final Day of the September International Break
It's the final day of September Nation's League action just a few days before the start of the 2020-21 season. Here's hoping that England show a great deal of improvement on and off the field after the trip to Iceland. Also, here's hoping to a higher standard of play after watching some really dreadful matches played at a really low standard. Despite all that , join me if you can

Just a reminder that Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden are unavailable because they have been sent home in disgrace after choosing to violate COVID 19 rules. Good riddance if that's more important than committing to the Three lions
Hi David - thanks for getting us going today. Alas, I'll be teaching so I won't be able to join in. But - come on, England!
My first day offf!!!!
I will be watching but away from the computer most of the match
I'll try and join in when I can
I am here for now
The line-up have been announced
A LEEDS UNITED PLAYER IS STARTING FOR ENGLAND!!!
An Aston Villa man is not!
England XI: Pickford, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Dier, Coady, Tripper, Rice, Phillips, Sancho, Sterling, Kane.
Denmark XI: Schmeichel, Wass, Jorgensen, Christensen, Skov, Norgaard, Eriksen, Delaney, Poulsen, Dolberg, Braithwaite.
Everton are at it again in the transfer market... After James Rodriguez and Allan yesterday....today Doucoure from Watford has signed at Goodison
England's starting XI have players from Leeds and Wolves!!
Steve Bull was the last Wolves' player to start for England way back in October 1990 vs Poland
Two debutants for England, one who has never played in the top-flight.
Gomez keeps his place? Ooof, I thought his very shaky performance against the Elves would get Gareth to think about starting someone else. I guess he didn't want to hurt his confidence, but I hope that kindness doesn't bite us.
Afternoon chaps.
Very confused
PFA awards being awarded today
TAA wins young player
Hiya Steve
De Bruyne wins POTY
Good afternoon Dave and Steve
No complaints with either of those awards.
Great Wolves info. Last Leeds player to play for England was Alan Smith in March 2004
WOW ! Thought those awards had been decided. I agree that both are deserved winners
Of course, England are with out the two Covidiots today
Everyone goes gaga over Foden...he was the top rated player on Saturday....what I saw....he didn't do much at all!
The other match in the group is Belgium vs Iceland . The Red Devils should burn and melt Iceland's hopes of qualifying
Agreed, Dave. Both players seemed like they weren't concentrating on the match and both were very poor. Their minds were elsewhere
Two League C matches have already finished today.
Armenia 2 Estonia 0
Georgia 1 North Macedonia 1
I had 5Live on and they are ahead of ESPN...get your fingers out!
I like what I've seen of Foden, but he wasn't at his best on the weekend. It's very disappointing that he and Greenwood broke quarantine. It makes it hard for Southgate to bring them back and England need both players because they are among the best at their age. I wish it had been Gomez and Ings, but am glad it wasn't Sterling and Sancho. In this squad, I only trust Pickers and Kane not to get up to any stupidity.
England players way out of tune when singing the anthem. Definitely not master singers
Did you see that Ollie Watkins is joining Villa?
The anthem hasn't been the same since Alan Ball retired. He had a lovely singing voice.
Kal Phillips seems the natural replacement for Foden . Greenwood didn't start, so not sure who replaces him
He joined Villa from the Bees. Didn't see that. His former Bees teammate, Norgaard making his Denmark debut
Any of Mount, Ings, or Abraham probably.
I don't know why they didn't try out Pope or Henderson in goal
Away we go
COME ON ENGURLUND!!!
They're off from Copenhagen.
Rice, Diet and Phillips
Not exactly Scholes, Gerrard and Lampard
Agreed, Dave. I was thinking Nick Pope., but either one would have been a good choice
If Maguire had been available, sure, try a new keeper. A new set of center backs AND a new keeper is too much.
Are the players extra loud today?
What kind of pass was that from Rice!
Agreed, Dave. a major drop off in quality
England haven't started this very well!!
Has the ball be in possession in the attacking half
Group 3 in League has two marquee matches :
France vs Croatia and Sweden vs Portugal.
If not marquee then really decent
Lamps and Gerrard never played well together. I was always disappointed when they were named in the same XI, and worse if Lamps got in the XI before Gerrard. Scholes of course was a different class, not seen since.
One of those is a repeat of the last WC Final
"cooly' slotted home pen?
It was a horrible pen.... keeper could have easily saved it!
That's definitely true, Steve
Come on England....attack!!
I really really really hate the modern day game.... maybe I should stop watching!
Every team annoys me... they all play the same way
Commentators only have two adjectives for penalties. They are either cool or thumping. And his was not a thumping one.
When's your next check-up David? You may be a candidate for some pharmaceutical help. Though with your luck, the doc would definitely turn off your internet.
Right there.... two guys right next to Pickers..... pass it to Dier who pumps it forward....why didn't Pickers hit it.... he was great with the distribution in the WC
LOL, Steve! These commentators are NOT cool.
Those cardboard cutouts are socially distanced in the stands. Did anyone notice that
Dave will be extremely disappointed with that pass from TAA despite going out for a corner
Low corner... Sancho with not a good contact
That corner was worse than Dire . What exactly was that supposed to be???
Too bad that Sancho didn't catch that corner well. The Danes were flat footed as could be.
Iceland take a shock lead in Belgium. Fridjonsson with the goal
Liechtenstein takes the lead in San Marino
Danish free kick from 25 yards out looks like it was taken by Johnny Wilkinson
Belgium ties it up vs Iceland. Axel Witsel with the goal
Of Rice, Phillips, and Coady, who exactly is the creative one, feeding the attacking line?
TAA with a cross.... only one in the box of course
Horrible cross from TAA basically a pass straight to Kasper
Coady is a central defender. Out of Rice and Phillips it seems like Phillips would be the creative one
As much as I hate saying this, Grealish might be the needed change after less than 20 minutes.
Danes have another shot...Pickers had it covered
Belgium has come from behind to lead Iceland 2-1. Bat Boy with the goal
Croatia takes the lead in Paris. Loveren with the goal
If Grealish doesn't get on today....he might become Irish
Grealish is good off the bench but won't work hard enough to get 90 minutes
Why not give Grealish a chance. That's how most managers are using this tournament. You make a good point, Dave
Liechtenstein two up in San aArino
Yeah, Jack is a lazy sod for Villa, but this XI is way too defensive. Someone must have told Gareth we were playing Brazil '82 today. The Danes are not mugs but they only tear into the likes of San Marino or the Faroes.
Modern Day football.... too worried about playing two defensive midfielders instead of attacking teams
Agreed, Steve. Why not go for it. It's basically a friendly tournament as far as the Three Lions are concerned
I mentioned Alan Smith half an hour before Adrian Healey did. Get your finger out, mate!
Have England had a shot?
I don't think they have , or at least I haven't seen a shot from the Three Lions
Well in mate!
Tactics have ruined the game
This match has been really dreadful . We were expecting better or were we unrealistic
Footmob says 1 English shot.
Cheers, Dave. Wonder if Bob knew that Alan Smith was the last LUFC player before Kal Phillips to play for England
Great research, Dave. I missed the shot
It's the wrong 11 for entertainment. I sighed when they were announced today.
OH! Just wide by Braithwaite on the half volley from 25 yards out after a cross was headed away
Hard to believe Braithwaite is playing for Barca just a few years after he was a flop for the Teesiders
I've never seen him appear for Barca. Not once.
Agreed, Steve. This starting XI is about as entertaining as a Gregorian chant
You think Danish fans are happy now? I bet they're all "Brian and Michael would have put 4 by these guys by now."
TAA fails with the cross!!
GEEZ
Sterling doesn't find anyone either
At least the ball went into the box twice
According to FOTMOB, Braithwaite played eleven La Liga matches for Barca after signing in the January transfer window. He even managed a goal. Never played a CL match
I agree. The Danes are probably as disappointed as we are
Playing the ball long into the Danish trees at the back is not working.
Sterling doesn't have room to run with their deep lying back 4.
Dolberg with a nice shot.... well saved by Pickford
England are second best here
Pickford does well to turn around a near post sot from Dahlberg off a pass from eriksen
Braithwait, the scourge of Sporting Gijon.
Corner out for another
Either of you watch any of the Spurs behind the scenes stuff?
I haven't but Tom and Matt are enjoying it
It's heartbreaking that Foden is such an idiot. We could use a ball player now.
Close , Steve. Joined Leganes from Boro then signed by Barca in January. That's a drop in quality from previous Barca signings. That says it all
United's zebra shirts became official today.....yikes!
No I have not. Sounds like a must watch
Actively watch a Little Joe commercial? What do you think? Honestly.
United away sounds like Juve at home in disguise
When Southgate told the players we're having some Danish do you think he had to tell the players that he means pastry?
If you buy that monstrosity, you must post a photo. It's ridiculous.
Can't believe Rice was called for a foul. You can tell by the fall he's been coached by Barca
France ties it up vs Croatia
No, Gareth cannot afford to say "Donut" with Harry Kane around. He looks at least a stone heavier than before the lock down.
Griezmann with the goal off a karate chopped assist
LOL, Steve! Nice one
Thankfully....half time
Rubbish
It's 0-0 at the end of a really dreadful half
Skippy gives Portugal the lead at ten man Sweden
France come from behind to lead Croatia 2-1 thanks to a karate chopped goal
Ronaldo has scored his 100th goal for his country....wish he was English!
When I first say the zebra kit, I was reminded of this. https://youtu.be/Tdpiqx89y9I
What country wouldn't want Skippy playing for them?
Brilliant stuff
Greizmann's goal was terrific.
Teams out of the second half
Looks like Gareth is happy about everything!
No changes!!
I like both of Haland's goals from yesterday
We are off
The second half is underway from Copenhagen
No changes. Bloody hell.
Those were amazing goals against Northern Ireland
Raheem loses a 50-50 decision and gives away a foul.
You think OGS has a Norwegian secret handshake he could give Haaland for you?
Just watched the video on the prank kits. How hilarious! The lion looks like Something United would choose for an away kit.
nice pass by Phillips.... useless cross from TAA..... and ONLY Kane in the box!!
I HATE IT
I don't think Haaland will join United because Roy Keane ruined his dad's career in a Manc Derby. Anybody remember that?
Apparently, OGS doesn't have a Norse secret handshake...he's already snubbed us once
Did you see that he went for Stuart Dallas' shirt yesterday...still a big Leeds fan!
Perhaps he's heading to ER
Braithwiate with a typical Barca type foul as on Harry Kane and Abel to be booked
One of the worst things about not having fans...you can hear the players screaming like little teenage girls after they get tackled
Trip down hurt
Trippier tripped by the Bees player , showing the types of challenges in the Championship
Was Trip a boxer as of late?
When did that eye injury happen
Agreed, Dave. Way too much screaming
MAKE SOME CHANGES S'GATE!!
Norgaard leaves a bruise on Trippier. Honestly, he looks like Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler.
I just noticed that. It makes you wonder if he went to the same nightclub as Maguire
Dreese Mertens gives Belgium a 3-1 lead vs Iceland. KDB with the assist
ONE ENGLAND PLAYER IN THE ATTACKING HALF!!
Nice analogy, Steve.
Agreed, Dave. The 85th minute is too late for players to make an impact
I think Dave and Steve would agree that the socially distanced cardboard cutouts have provided more excitement than the players
Mount looks ready.
Mount about to come on.... Grealish won't get a match
Croatia ties it up in Paris . Now Desmond
Kane in.... flag up late.... Kasp saved well anyway
Here come Mont on for Sancho
Harry Kane and NOT Abel to score as he's well offside and better for him as he missed a sitter
Mount for Sancho
Why take off Sancho.....now we have FOUR midfielders that won't do much
Sancho mounted off the pitch. Will England be able to mount any sustained attacks?
Hi there, guys - I'm in my break now and checking in on the match. It seems as if I picked the right one to miss.
How's Kal Phillips looked today?
I think Mount is a better choice than Grealish and both play a similar role. Mount is not nearly as lazy
That shot by Kane might have worried Kasper...alas a nice save by Sterling
Good afternoon, Bob. It's been a dreadful match. Pretty quiet match for Phillips, but that can be said for all of his teammates as well.
That's a sub I don't understand. Now it's wing-halves only to feed the front. Stupid.
Didn't know that Sterling is such a great defender.
Phillips has been quietly effective. Hasn't put a foot wrong, but he's in a very defensively oriented XI.
Don't waste your break on this dross Bob
As things stand Belgium on track for the mini tournament and Iceland look set to be relegated
Delaney fouled off a poor pass from TAA
Bash it into touch you Spursy reject.
Free kick from Eriksen lands in Row H
Kane almost in... Sterling just misses the pass
Pass from Sterling and Kane not Abel to get it as it goes out of play. Looked rather Spursy there
Nice cross from Trippier and Harry Kane heads over in the six yard box
Bring it down Mount!!
Now the cross... Kane heads over
England's best couple seconds of the match
Surely says it right.....only ONE player in the box
France takes a 3-2 lead vs Croatia
Sterling shoots from Sweden.... saved
Kasper turns around a shot from Sterling
Bat Boy with his second goal of the match as Belgium leads Iceland 4-1
Ball out wide.... the man doesn't take the man on one on one
What's the point
Hoyberg ,just signed by Spurs, on for Norgaard of the Bees
If you listen to 5Live or talkSport....they will say that England were patient...possessed the ball...decent performance
CRAP....it was CRAPAAAAP
Grealish is tearing up his Irish passport....he is about to be stamped English
Here comes the Irishman.
There he is . Grealish about to come on. Ireland will no longer be able to choose him
How can TAA be so good for Liverpool and so poor for England
Will Greal's socks be pulled down?
England have also been really boring
One debutant on for another as Grealish on for Kal Phillips
Here he comes....replaces Phillips
My Freshman shirt number replaced by my Sophomore, Junior and Senior shirt at Cortland
Peter Falk on for Dollberg as the Danes make a change. Will Colombo be able to solve the mystery of whom murdered the life out of this match?
Nice connection, Dave
TAA suffered from the layoff most probably. He sure didn't distinguish himself today.
France get a pen.... two Croats...Lovern is one... right in the faces of the ref... both get yellows
Skippy with goal # 101 as he scores his and Portugal's second at ten man Sweden. Joe Felix with the assist
Giroud about to take the spot kick.....4-2
Olly scores from the spot to give France a 4-2 lead
Burley has good point about Portugal not just being Ronny
We're watching the wrong match for sure
Sterling runs down the left wing.....AND....doesn't get the ball over
The Irishman's mazy dribble just short of effective.
Agreed. Portugal could be a powerhouse for a while.
The way England play....they don't deserve to be any where near favorites
Struth.... Danes should have scored
Spurs AND Inter reject puts it over
Steve will be amused at that missed sitter after a nice cross was headed down
Hahahahaha, Spurs DNA strikes again.
Grealish can't beat the defender with the cross
Belgium now leads Iceland 5-1
