IT'S BACK!!!
After a very short summer break... the Premier League is back on!! With both Manchester clubs getting an extra week of rest, we still have a Quadruple Header to open the season up!
We start early on NBCSN as the Steve's resurgent Arsenal visit Bob and Kate at the Cottage. We follow that with Palace hosting the Saints.
The big one of the day is Our Bob's beloved Leeds returning to the Big Time with a visit to the the Champions*(sigh).... last time Leeds were promoted to the Top Division...they were 3-0 up at half on Merseyside in their opener!!! This match is on NBC.... the Mighty Leeds got a mention on the NFL match last night!
We end on NBCsports.com or Peacock as the Hammers host the Toon
Join me will ya?

Morning, UWS! Thanks for getting us going. It is a big, big day for me, indeed. For the first time in sixteen years, we're back where we belong. And have a proper re-introudction away at Anfield. It's also our debut on American network television. I fully expect a pounding today - and I'd take a draw to begin with - but I'm going to enjoy every single minute of it.
The team news out of Craven Cottage today:
Fulham (4-2-3-1) Rodak; Odoi, Hector, Ream, Bryan; Reed, Cairney; Kebano, Onomah, Cavaleiro; Kamara.
Substitutes: Areola, Le Marchand, Christie, Knockaert, Anguissa, Mitrovic, De Cordova-Reid.
Arsenal (3-4-2-1) Leno; Holding, Magalhaes, Tierney; Bellerin, Elneny, Xhaka, Maitland-Niles; Willian, Lacazette, Aubameyang.
Substitutes: Macey, Saka, Kolasinac, Ceballos, Willock, Pepe, Nketiah.
Referee Chris Kavanagh.
Many of us have picked Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to get the season started with the first goal (and many have tipped him as the Premier League's top goalscorer).
Not Pink Kits, though, who has a few startling predictions on her docket. She's gone for American center back Tim Ream to open the scoring.
I've gone for Eddie Nketiah, who of course starts on the bench today for the Gunners. Hoping he'll be the supersub today.
Morning Bob
Pink Kits...is that Kate?
Yep - the very same. She's doing the loyal thing and tipping my Leeds boys for the title!
NBC doing their split screen stuff as the teams comes out
What's happened to Craven Cottage? It looks as if they've torn down a stand and have a bunch of scaffolding up around it!
Becky Lowe trying to do her level best to pitch the new Peacock streaming nonsense. Not buying it!
Hate the music at the Cottage..... and we are off to the another split screen break
They just answered your question
Wonder if they are building a dressing room in that stand so they don't have to walk out from the opposite corner
All the preliminaries are over and we're set for the start of the new season. Wahay!
I can't open the Picks document
Willian wearing blue again!!
And we are off
Gooner is on the text with me complaining about the blue kits. Why couldn't they wear their traditional red today?
Arsenal right into their second gear with some crisp passing. I expect Fulham to struggle today.
STRUTH.... Arsenal almost gifting a goal!!!
I hate it!!
Oh - nearly a calamity there at the back for the Arsenal. Suicidal back pass and Leno had to bail out his man Gabriel.
Not an auspicious start for the new Arsenal man. It's as if he and Leno have never met.
Now Fulham are playing around with it at the back!
I'm hoping that we wear our traditional all-white against Liverpool today. No reason not to. It'll bring back so many memories of the likes of Bremner v. Keegan.
I hope you guys wearing white! No reason whatsoever not to
Wonder how long we'll be in the COVID-19 holding pattern of no fans in the stadia?
Fulham have had a decent start
GOAL
The Gazette scores for the Gunners!
GOAL! The first goal of the season goes to.....
Alexandre Lacazette!
Arsenal 0-1 up!
There was talk about fans in at OT for the first game but the PM has extended the restrictions. I think it is now in October
VAR checked finished
Gunners keep their lead
A quick check of the PPP worksheet shows me that Someone Said, my Fredonia friend Ed Plunkett is off to the first two points of the season having picked Lacazette to open the scoring.
You must have missed my PPP comment
I couldn't open it
Wouldn't put the ball in the box... Modern Day crap
For first red card in the season, I've gone for Tim Ream, Gooner has gone for Mitrovic, MOT and Swansea have gone for David Luiz,
Three people have gone for a Leeds player to get sent off first!
Still can't open it
Really? Wouldn't it open in Word? Or are you using some sort of Chromebook nonsense?
Quick VAR check for a possible penalty there. I didn't see anything that happened.
I am on ny MacBook Air
So far, so good for the Arsenal though but I'm far from convinced by them. It's the most underwhelming Arsenal side I've ever seen in the Premier League. It's all well and good beating up on Fulham, who I expect to be relegated, but I can't see them breaking back into the top six.
Just sent you a picture
Do you have Pages on that?
Just sent you a picture
I have Word
I'll give it another go with a pdf.
I don't know it wouldn't open
Have others opened it?
*why
Hector trips up Lacazette and Arsenal have a tasty free kick chance now.
Hector gets the first yellow of the season.... I think I picked him for the first red....come on...another silly tackle please!
New Boy Willian to take...just at the D...off the foot of the post!
Hector picks up the first yellow of the season.
Oh - Willian off the post!
Bingo...it opened
I've just sent you a couple of options. I think that the problem was that I put a backslash in the title rather than a dash. I've sent you a revised one.
Is Kate Pink Kits?
I LOVE her picks!!
No one else had problems?
Why just me?
John Menditto has just sent me his picks, so he officially wins the Tardy Award for the season!
Yeah - she is. She's being loyal to me picking Leeds to win the title!
He gets an award? I was threatened with a points reduction!!
I suppose the others haven't tried yet. Even MUR is having a lazy lie-in this morning. Poor form on the first day of the season!
Good for her
Not sure about the Rotherham pick!
I so hope she's right with Pep
That's the award - points deduction!
With a lot of the picks, she just went with teams that she knows, her favorite (e.g., Jordan Pickford) or least favorite (Jack Grealish) players, and funny sounding words. Not exactly scientific!
Just pulled up the Brum/Brent match
Still scoreless....the Bees must be so upset they are playing at St Andrews instead of hosting the Gunners
I hope she wins the lot
Arsenal knocking it about for fun now - looking very comfortable.
She doesn't want to win it - no room in the house for the Shield!
Bees lost Ollie Watkins to Villa
Birmingham take the lead with a great header from a corner
That shouldn't have been a yellow
You are allowed to tackle!!
Aubameyang into the book now.
By the way, you picked Michael Hector to get the first red. He's already on a yellow, so you could easily win points there.
For the first time in 16 years, I have no interest in the lower leagues.
I mentioned that earlier
One more rash tackle....he can do it!
Late free kick to the Cottagers....cleared.... not a great delivery
What do clubs do with their seasons ticket holders when there is not stand for them to sit in?
Half-time arrives and I'm off to refresh my cuppa. Arsenal predictably on top so far.
Not a good corner again.... and that it is
Half time and Arsenal extend their lead at the top of the table
They started on top and will stay there after this one
Interesting footage of Dani Ceballos and Eddie Nketiah having a go at each other and having to be separated during the warm-up!
We're back on for the second half at Craven Cottage then.
Off we go for the second half
Missed that... I was in the loo
Wonder why Fulham didn't start the construction during lockdown
I guess the workers weren't allowed
Two nil.... Gabriel scores for the Gunners
GOAL! It's new boy Gabriel with a rare goal from a corner for the new look Arsenal.
0-2!
Look what happens you beat the first man with a corner
I guess Arsenal aren't wearing their red shirts because of the white sleeves
Shadow is getting an antsy about a walk...doesn't he know the Premier League is on?
Free kick to Fulham....will there be a decent delivery....not really
THREE NIL
Great finish by Abum
0-3! Aubameyang off the mark for the season. Good finish but Fulham are tragic.
Shadow might get that walk in now, right?
Aubameyang with a great finish
I just got a notification from FotMob that Aston Villa vs Man United kick off in 15 minutes
They must be having a friendly today with both of their fixtures postponed
I'm doing my book for the season. I keep all of the important stats for Leeds in a journal.
As I said before, the boys wanted to get Peacock for the 4.99 a month. That makes it slightly cheaper than Gold but you can only have three devices and I don't see Soccer Saturday!
Good Morning, Bob and Dave. Had a late lie in and am up to see the Gunners expectedly thrashing the Cottagers
Good on ya
Into the wall by Xakha Khan. First pun of then season
Some changes for Scotty Parker now - Bad Boy Mitrovic coming on along with a debutant.
Arsenal play 6 of the last season's top 7 in their first 9 games
Definitely need to make hay with the Fulham type opponents
Morning David
Welcome
If I were Arteta, I'd rest a few players now. Stick Eddie Nketiah on for probably Aubameyang. He's done his job.
Welcome to the new season, David! How are you, mate?
Fulham still passing it around at the back and midfield!
They lost the ball many times but continue to play like this
BECAUSE IT IS THE WAY TO PLAY!!!
If it isn't working..... doing something different!
Thanks, Bob and Dave. Doing well. Looks like the Cottagers are certs to go down. Did anyone pick them to go down?
Oh - nearly a second for Lacazette!
Arsenal almost score again.... offside called eventually but some great save from the keeper and then the defender anyway
Hector fouls.... book him!!!
Damn
Good close range block by Rodak then the whistle blew
I did
Yeah - most of us predicted the Cottagers going straight back down. I've got them for #20.
Hector at it again.... still no yellow.... DAMN
Missed the original foul by Hector but just saw the replay. That was nasty
I picked the Cottagers to finish 19th and Palace 20th
Pepe on for Willian for the Gunners and Bobby Reid on for Josh Onomah for the Cottagers
Aubama rounds Rodak then has a shot cleared off the line at the near post by Hector for a corner
Caballos on for Xakha Khan. My first ever Spanish language pun.
I have them 19th and the Baggies last
Tom showed me a vid of a couple of blokes talking about the new kits of the season
They were saying that West Brom's kit looks like a Bar Code
You lot have a shocker of a third kit.
A Day in the life of Bryan as his free kick it's headed away. It's a day of one of many thrashings this season
LOL, Dave! When they scan the bar code. The price at the register is relegation.
BOOM BOOM!
Not sure if I want to see the third kit, if the second kit is fifth rate.
I picked Villa to go down instead of the Baggies. I think the Baggies are last season's Villa and am Predicting to stay up by the slimmest of margins. Watch it be the other way around
Just read some comments. Glad to see my GBB is off the mark
In the Championship Brum surprisingly one up vs the Bees late on and Wycombe holding Rotherham 0-0 in their first ever Championship match in a battle of newly promoted teams
I missed that substitution , but while reading Lacazette saw that Eddie is on as a late sub. Wonder what kind of reception he will get at ER
Back with the traditional LOB beginning of the season brekkies.
You're right Bob....shocking third kit
The only downside for the Gunners today is the injury to Granit Xhaka. Or maybe that isn't a downside?
Very annoyed the ref has been very lenient with Hector this half!
Welcome back. Just noticed that Leeds have their first Prem match at ER in sixteen years next weekend against the fellow promoted side the Cottagers. That will give us an idea of Leeds;'s survival chances
LOL,. Maybe not a downside
Agreed, Dave. Even half asleep I can tell he should have been booked
Steve will be pleased at the hospitality from Bob and Kate given to the Gunners
Rotherham takes a late lead at Wycombe in their first ever Championship match
That's it
Congrats Steve
I am wearing my * t-shirt today to be in Leeds corner
Off for walkies
TTFN
It's over at Bob and Kate's as the Gunners win easily 0-3
Rotherham takes a late lead at Wycombe in their first ever Championship match.
Off for walkies with Sparky
In a shock result, Brum have beaten Brentford today. Many of us had Brentford for promotion. Poor start for the Bees on the road.
Great little package about Leeds now!
We're back, baby!
Back from walkies and feeding the pets. It will be interesting to watch Leeds at Anfield later today
The players coming out at Selhurst Park now for the 10am match on NBC Sports. I'm likely to be a bit in and out of this one, as I have to pick up some water down at the Village. We're on a boil water order right now in Fred-Town.
Palace vs Saints on NBCSN and interested as I picked Palace to finish bottom. Watch them win 5-0
Rotherham won 0-1 at WYCOMBE WITHA LATE WINNER IN THE FIRST EVCER cHAMPIONSHIP MATCH AT wYCOMBE BETWEEN TWO NEL;Y PROMOTED SIDES
I am back from walkies....Shadow was very considerate and got back for the kick off
They're off from Selhurst Park
Kate's pick well on the way to the Championship crown
We are off at Selhurst Park
Welcome back, Dave. Our dogs have been really considerate this morning
I picked Palace to finish bottom. Without a in in eight matches and the bookies ranked them fourth favorites to go down
Bristol City takes an early lead vs newly promoted Coventry and that's not idle gossip
5Live hasn't been blacked out for this match
I'll keep it on for updates
The Tigers take the lead at the Gils as do the Real Dons at Northants
Early Sain ts corner off of General Mac Arthur
Both Bristols take the lead....just a bit of gossip
Free header for Jack Stephens off the corner from JWP and easily saved
Not a Big Club takes the lead at Cardiff
5Live just said...."we welcome World Service listener where every you may be"..... such memories!!
Wednesday take the lead at Cardiff on Saturday
Nice passing from the Saints and a poor touch let down Danny Ings as it was gathered by the keepers
WOW ! Great memories
Sunderland, one of the favorites for the L1 title, are already 0-1 down at home to Bristol Rovers. And that's no mere gossip.
Salford takes the lead vs Exeter. Salford will be on plus midweek when they play at Goodison in midweek in a plum tie
Abe Lincoln takes the lead vs Oxford shirts. Doubt he ever wore one
Sliced clearance gives Palace a corner
Short corner then a poor pass easily cleared. That sounds like McCarthyism
The Guardian has spotted that Scott Parker seemed to emerge from the dressing room for the second half with a shiner under his left eye. Must have been a rough team talk!
Argyle Sweater takes the lead vs the Tangerines as does Swindon vs Rochdale on their return to L1
Jack Stephens down for Saints.
I'm sure I told you guys this but...
I used to listen to Radio 2 every Saturday with updates and second half commentary from a match. Soon after the commentary started, they would say "and now we welcome World Service listeners, wherever you may be"
Well, my first year at Cortland I used to go to the Library and look at an English newspapers for scores!
Well it was a Saturday morning and I watching the old Flash Gordon show with my roommate... a line in the show said... let's broadcast it on Shortwave
I thought to myself... shortwave? World Service? I had my boombox and it had SW...I started to search... and found it!!
My Saturday mornings were set for the next 25 years!!!
Kathy even had to buy me a small portable SW radio so I wasn't stuck at home!!
Jack Stevens is hobbling off now.
Wow! Sounds like Scotty needs to be beamed up for surgery. SAF would have given the shiner to the players. Scotty just as bad a s his players on the pitch
Celtic takes the lead at Ross County as does Motherwell vs St. Johnny and Livingston vs George Hamilton
Haha gives Palace the lead!
Morning chaps. I'm happy that for once we didn't treat odds-on relegation fodder to a point or three. Nice to see our strikers get a feast between them, and that new boy Gabbi can march up to an inviting cross and put it away.
David, you were robbed. Hector should have gone for 2 yellows. Disgraceful refereeing.
Morning, Steve - great to have you on board.
goal !!! zaha gives palace the lead with a far post volley. saints gifted possession in midfield. Townsend goes on a run down the right and his cross was volleyed in by Zaha
I remember the days of shortwave fondly.
Rangers lead
Cambridge two up vs Carlisle... they were supposed to have fans in until this week
Barrow take the lead in their League debut
Good morning, Steve. Congratulations on a great win. Delighted for you
Great finish there from Zaha - and one of our relegation favorites is off to a good start.
Morning Steve
Congrats for today
Thanks for your Hector comment....I think the Commish should give me the red!
Stevie Nicks gives Fleetwood Mac the lead vs Richard Burton
Has anyone noticed how classy Soton's away kits look. IMHO, that Peru red sash is the best look in football. AND, they don't have to trot out a black/dark blue bit of nonsense like everyone else.
Barrow's first first league match since 1972. That's a great return to the league despite Stevenage being one of the favorites to go down
I'm off down the Village Hall to pick up the bottled water for us. We're under a Boil Water Order because of some dogginess in the pipes in Fred-Town.
I'm more than happy to dish out a red to you. Any time.
Did you see the Saints home kit? It looks like the away one but reversed!
I hate it... Southampton should be in red and white stripes...not a sash like you won a beauty contest
Hibs two up at St. Helen Mirren. She' s quite the host
I agree with Steve. I like that smart looking away kit
Celtic two up at Ross County
Aberdeen on top vs Killie
Celtic extend their lead
Ross County have 300 fans in the stands
Three seats and two rows separating them
I'd love an away kit like Soton's. That blood spatter one is awful, and blue should be retired once Willian gets accustomed to wearing another color.
Northants ties it up vs the Real Dons
Exeter ties it up at Salford
Are they building at Selhurst? There's drilling sound on my coverage.
Real Dons back in the lead at Northants by 1-2
Ross on of the few clubs in the UK allowing fans to the best of my knowledge, but that may change soon
Bournemouth take the lead vs Rovers
Harrogate takes the lead at Southend in their first ever Football League match
Great save by McCarthy off a header from Scott Dann from a corner
I said the other day.... Leeds last return to the top tier was in 1990-91... their opening game on Merseyside.... they were 3-0 up at half time at Goodison and ended up winning 3-2
They ended up finishing 4th.... and won the title the following year...I'm just saying
Charlton takes the lead at Motley Crewe
