The War of the Roses, Resumed
I'm waking up this morning like it's Christmas, giddy with anticipation. Manchester United v. Leeds United. It's the kind of fixture that Leeds fans have been waiting 16 years to watch. Of course, my beloved Leeds are likely on a hiding to nothing; Man Utd are 7th (with a match in hand!) and Leeds are 14th for a reason. Yet, with nothing to lose in this one - it's not the kind of match in which we're expected to pick up any points - I'm going to simply sit back and enjoy what should be a cracking affair. Before the big one, we've got Brighton v. Sheffield United and Spurs v. Leicester as the undercard matches. Join me for all of the fireworks, won't you?

Kate and I had a late night, so I decided to sleep in a bit. So, I'm just waking up to Sheffield United leading 0-1 at Brighton in the closing stages of the early one. Not good - this would be the Evil Blades' first win of the season. I'm hoping that the Seagulls can level it.
Wahay! Danny Welbeck at the rescue for the Seagulls!
1-1!
Now then - we don't want Brighton getting any notions of winning this thing. 1-1 is just fine, lads.
Four minutes of stoppage time now.
Sheffield United with a late free kick - they'll bring the big boys up.
And another...!
Oh - off the bar for Brighton! Somehow Baldock scrambles it away! What drama late on here at the Amex.
That's it, then. A furious finish to the day. It whets the appetite for the big one to come.
So, Brighton stay in 16th, albeit on 12 points now from 14. Sheffield United stay rock bottom, but they've doubled their points on the season - 2 from 14.
Good morning Bob. I will be around but sparingly. Would an Evil Blades win been better for Leeds?
If so then the Blades didn't even get that right
Morning Bob
Hope you had a good "late night"
I hope your "late afternoon" isn't that good!
Next is third vs fourth.
Good morning Dave. We need to beat the bad guys today
We sure do David!!
16 years.... I can start hating Leeds....at least for a week!
Watching footie in an RV is luxurious , but it's chilly this morning.
Agreed. I second that.
So it is 3rd vs 4th in our first match
If the GOOD United win today, they will go ahead of the looser of the match in North London. United need a four goal win to overtake Evetpon... A three goal win with scoring four would do it too
Win a game in a hand... up to second.... AND WE SUCK!!!
The Blades took their lead late...it would have been better for Bob if they held on
We are off at Spurs!
What and where are you watching this David?
Morning, boys - can you feel the excitement in the air?
Still don't know why Bale doesn't play
Jose being Jose
Not a bad undercard match here. Here are the teams on display at Shite Fart Lane:
Tottenham Hotspur (4-4-2): Lloris; Aurier, Dier, Alderweireld, Reguilon; Hojbjerg, Sissoko, Lo Celso, Ndombele; Son, Kane. Subs: Hart, Doherty, Winks, Bale, Rodon, Bergwijn, Moura, Davies, Vinicius.
Leicester City (4-2-3-1): Schmeichel; Justin, Evans, Fofana, Castagne; Tielemans, Ndidi; Albrighton, Maddison, Barnes; Vardy. Subs: Ward, Iheanacho, Perez, Amartey, Under, Mendy, Praet, Fuchs, Thomas.
I'm back for this one with the official breakfast of the LOB - a cuppa, a bagel and some fruit.
Of course... today is Cup Final Day north of the border
Celtic going for a Quadruple Treble today
Not going to be five tho... both Celtic and Rangers knocked out before the semis in the League Cup of this season
Free kick from the Fourth President headed over by Faffana
I'm watching on NBCSN in an RV that belongs to my sister in law and her boyfriend. We're in an TVpark in Kerrville, TX
TVpark?
Are you traveling?
I suppose an exciting score draw is probably the best result for all of us in this one.
Hearts... or should I say Heart of Midlothian are a second tier team...but weren't when this final should have taken place
Just read Dave's mention of the Scots Cup Final. It's Celtic vs Hearts with Hearts now in the Championship. Former Celtic keeper, Craig Gordon, starting for Hearts
I need Kane to score a few and Lloris to concede a few too so that is exactly what we need
I've been here since Friday evening and will return to Harlingen shortly after our Uniteds finish playing
Leicester have had some strange results at home lately
They have lost at home to West Ham, Fulham and Everton
Are they United in disguise?
Foxes could have scored there... why didn't the bloke shoot
Desperate Spurs defending off a Foxes free kick but they do just enough
Foxes and United have some similarities
Kane with a chance... doesn't shoot... to Son... cross/shot?
Spurs have started like United... very slow
Reading stuff about the Cup Final....Hearts stopping Celtic thru the middle and forcing them wide
In our day...that's how we wanted to attack!!!
Remember BBC's 101 Great Goals... Barry Davies saying for a Man City goal.... "that's what you get when you have a man playing wide"
I would always show this goal to my teams. There is a guy that looked wide but he passes it out to a guy with chalk on his boots!!
Defend narrow and attack wide!!
I guess I don't know what I am talking about anymore
Corner to the Foxes...they have been the more attacking teams
Reading stuff about Davies
Before his final commentary game for Match of the Day, Davies said:
It is not a fit of pique why I am leaving, but I wanted more than just doing a few minutes' commentating on the roster. There is too much talk from commentators nowadays. Dramatic moments in football speak for themselves.
I WOULD ADD TOO MUCH SCREAMING!!!
Celtic take the lead in the 19th minute
Christie with a lovely curler
What the hell are Spurs doing....NOTHING is the answer
You're right, Dave - Spurs are really boring to watch.
But this is a great result for all told.
I know you are really down on Spurs... I don't think they always are but they sure are today!
Celtic double their lead from the Spot
Albrighton should have gotten a yellow for that hack.
Albrighton kung fu style kick on Kane
That gets a yellow...just like a tap on the shins
Two poor crosses by Son
Marc Albrighton booked for a naughty challenge on Harry Kane on a Spurs break
This has been a really boring match
Spurs free kick
Never a foul....any touch is a foul and the swan dive after!!
HATE IT... the Premier League is just like mainland Europe and South American football... the acting!! They LOVE IT
We have joined in
Kasper does well to save a free kick from Harry Kane
Kane with a shot from the free kick...not much of a shot
Off Evans' arm... I've seen them given these days...no mention of a VAR check
Naughty by Lo Celso on Harvey Barnes. Not even a booking
Barnes got a boot in the eye there. Bit of blood there; he'll have to have that attended to.
Totally agree with you, David.
About what? Man Utd winning today?
These reviews are VARly inconsistent
LOL,Dave
Kane with a header....should have hit the target
Never a pen!
Why even ask
Watching aforementioned 61 Cup Final
Leicester had a man injured early and he just hobbled around the pitch for the rest of the match...NO subs.... wonder what Klopp would say about that!!!!
VAR check now on that Aurier challenge right on the edge of the box.
I am now on to the 62 and 63 Cup Finals
Spurs win over Burnley and United over the Foxes
The 63 Cup Final was the first with a roof around the whole stadium. Both ends of the match we roofless
Looks like a penalty to me - ref going over to the monitor now.
And it is a penalty right on the stroke of half time!
Jamie Vardy to take, of course....
Smashes it right down the middle as Lloris guesses left.
0-1 Leicester!
That penalty decision was VARly good.
VARdy scores from the spot.
Vardy to take....ONE NIL
And that should do it for the half
I'm off for walking in the Frozen Tundra
I'll be back.... depends how long Shad is in the snow
I'll be back
Foxes one up at the half
That penalty was really the only action in the half. I'm off to whip out the smelling salts.
I'm just back in my seat in time to see the Fourth President smash home Leicester's second goal.
No - it's been ruled out for offside. Shame, that was a nice finish.
The thing with Spurs’ style is because they’ve deployed it in pretty much every game, now that they need something different, you wonder if they’re capable.
If Spurs were to lose this one, it would really indicate a decline. They would have lost two in a row and only won one match in the last five.
GOAL! Leicester are 0-2 up as Vardy's header goes in off Toby's shoulder!
Hard to imagine Spurs digging this one out now.
Oh - Kane with a chance on the turn. Good strike but Kasper was solidly behind it.
Spurs have got to come out of their shells with half an hour left. Still no Bale.
So it's Harry Winks on for Aurier. What on earth is Jose thinking? You're 0-2 down, mate!
I am back as the second goal went in
The first "second" goal.... far too close to call back!!
It can't be offside!!! I know they say the line shows it BUT what about the other end? The actual time the ball is kicked! Is the ball touching the foot? Is the ball being indented by the foot? Has the ball left the foot?
No one says anything about that end!
I am so fed up with Solskjaer!
FIVE CHANGES!!!!
De Gea back...that's ok?
Pogba played decently...but dropped!
TWO defensive middies!!
JAMES STARTS
He should know how important this game is?
Leeds....unchanged
The disallowed goal was VARy bad.Going two up VARy good
Hearts got an early goal in the second half but still trail 1-2
YIKES!Hearts have come from two down. Now Desmond in the Scots Cup Final
Kasper with a great save from Son at the back post
Oh - Son was in at the back of that corner. Somehow scrambled off the line.
I really need a Kane goal!!!
Bale wins a free kick and will take....up he comes....USELESS
In the scheme of things, I suppose OGS thinks that a League Cup quarterfinal is more important than what he probably imagines is a home banker against a bottom half newly promoted side.
Let's be honest, no one under the age of 35 even remembers a rivalry between our clubs.
Did he think he was at Twickenham?
HE SHOULD KNOW!!! He's played many of them!!!
BTW... our storm midweek..... WE GOT 30+ inches from the hours of 1 a.m. to 6 a.m.
OVER SIX INCHES AN HOUR!!!
Surely....that is another penalty!!!
He was dragged back!!
SO INCONSISTENT!!!!
The sport is ruined
That drag was just as much as a kick on the bottom of the foot
I don't like either of these sides - a draw would've suited me more.
United visit the King Power early on Boxing Day after taking on Everton on the Wednesday
Players asking all the time for handballs!
Leicester could have wrapped it up after useless playing around at the back
Into the last five minutes in London and Glasgow
Londoners want Desmond to arrive and Glaswegians want him to bugger off
Spurs have created nowt
5 added minutes in the Cup Final
Spurs showing no urgency....they need two... and they still just pass it around the back
Top of the Table
Liverpool 31
Leicester 27
Everton 26
Spurs 25
Soton 24
City 23...game in hand
United 23...two games in hand
Chelsea 22
No urgency at all.
Useless by Kane!!
Full-time: Well, that's a really good win for Leicester and a really poor loss for Spurs against fellow European challengers.
I don't mind Spurs but I really hate Jose!
I hope he implodes!!
That is it
Foxes up to second
Extra Time coming up at Hampden Park
If United win their next two league matches....they will be in second... deepening on goal with Everton
Leicester rise to second and Spurs fall to fourth.
It does seem as if Jose is imploding. They've lost two on the trot now and only have one win in five.
Ok...now for the Big One
The line ups.... which I am not happy about(I hope I'm wrong)
THE GOOD GUYS
Team to play Leeds: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw, Fred, McTominay, Fernandes, James, Martial, Rashford.
Subs: Henderson, Bailly, Pogba, Cavani, Mata, Greenwood, Telles, Matic, Van de Beek.
The OTHER guys
Team to play Man Utd: Meslier, Dallas, Ayling, Cooper, Alioski, Phillips, Raphinha, Rodrigo, Klich, Harrison, Bamford.
Subs: Casilla, Poveda, Roberts, Costa, Hernandez, Strujik, Davis, Shackleton, Casey.
Of course, OGS has to bring Dan James back out of mothballs. What else - are you going to play Gordon McQueen and Rio Ferdinand at the back, Jimmy Greenhoff in middle and Joe Jordan and Eric Cantona up front? Struth!
Some interesting Pre-Match Stats
Manchester United are unbeaten in their last 15 home league games against Leeds (W9 D6), since a 0-1 loss in February 1981. This is the first league meeting between the sides since a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford in February 2004.
Manchester United have played more home Premier League games against Leeds without losing than against any other club (P12 W8 D4).
Manchester United haven't scored more than one goal in any of their last seven home Premier League matches - in their top-flight history, they've only gone longer without netting at least twice on one occasion, doing so in eight games between February-April 1920.
Just texted a picture of the United Review for today's match
Back from a walk for the rivalry. Glad to see the Foxes win
Back in the day....they used to be pamphlets.... these days....they are magazines!
Great build up now on NBC Sports!
Spurs have shown they're not the real deal in terms of bring title challengers
I'll be commenting sparingly during the match then headed back home shortly after the match.
I want to switch managers!
I hope I won't comment too much.... negatively!
Wahay - here come the boys!
You can't have Marcelo!
Celtic take the lead
OGS is very familiar with this rivalry having played against Leeds in eight of his eleven seasons with Manchester United
Teams coming out.... NBC buggering off
HATE EM
I think the last league meeting between these two was a 1-1 draw at OT
In the video that I am sure you both enjoyed... United wore read every match... Leeds didn't wear white
It does look like Leeds are wearing their white shirts
I am surprised they kept their white shorts
I just want an entertaining match - I fully expect us to lose.
I second that Dave.I also hate them for doing away with Dish Network
Fergie is in the house - he needs to get his mask up.
Glad both are in their first kits.SAF in attendance
I agree, Bob
And away we go!!
And we're away in what promises to be one of the matches of the season.
They're off from OT
Man U better start woken up!!!!
Shoot it Rash!!!!
Drives me nuts!
Furious pace at the start, of course.
Just sent you another pic
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
McTom scores a corker!!!!
McTom with a lovely strike into the bottom corner. United 1-0 up. Well done, boys.
First goal at Old Trafford from open play since opening match of the season!!
WAY HAY! Leeds have a case of McTomain poisoning off a nice run and pass from Bruno.I think Rash won the ball
YESSSSS!!
McTOm in again!!!
2 goals in three minutes!!!
Sorry mate!!
McTom again - we're completely shellshocked here.
YES! McTomain at the double off a karate chopped pass off a throw
I feel for Bob but I want United to score a boatload
I agree. Sorry Bob
What the hell was Shaw doing!!!
Oh - nice attack from us there and Raphinha was nearly in on it.
Lucky goal kick... don't go short... Good they didn't
Attack, attack, attack!
United Shaw had to clear for a corner because they fell asleep
It is now 3-3 in the Cup Final!!
Can United finally start playing at Old Trafford?
If it were anywhere near normal....we'd be top
First time scoring more than once in a league match at OT this season
I still can't believe McTom took both chances
United up to fourth... more goals... move up to third
Not good for me in fantasy... too many Leeds players
I may watch the Cup Final tomorrow. Sounds like quite a Cup Final.
Oh - Bamford nearly onto that cross from Raphinha who looks the danger man for us early on.
Oh - Patrick! You have to score from there!
Bamford with a huge chance...phew
Pathetic defending by United
Pathetic passing in the mid
How much fun is this match!
Cooper is already -4
PHEW!OBI Wan with a case of McTomain poisoning. Bamford wide with just De Gea to beat
Last ditch challenge from Coop to block Rash there.
Definitely fun to watch. McTomain first in Prem history to score twice in the first three minutes. A surprise that it's him of all players
Marcelo enjoying a nice cuppa on his bucket today.
Bucket Man drinking out of a Man U cup
McTom sucks...hasn't scored in 8 minutes
I have a couple of those cups
Coop does well to cut out that pass.
"Enthralling entertainment." I totally agree with Arlo.
Gjanni upends Rash and United have a free kick now.
United have finally starting quickly
I want more....sorry mate
Leeds phaffing around at the back... don't do it when you are being pressured....common sense
It has gone to penalties at Hampden
Corner now - let's make the most of it!
United try and break... James just doesn't beat the second man
By no means are Leeds out of it
Ball in the net... Bamford offside....phew
Oh - Patrick rockets one in but is ruled offside. Shame.
THREE NIL!!!!
Bruno!!!!
3-0 - Bruno rifles one in.
PHEW!United Shaw did get away with giving the ball away. Shot from Rodrigo blocked then Bamford with a goal disallowed for offside
So glad I put in De Gea instead of Mel
One more goal and we are third ahead of Everton
Oh - that ball from Jack nearly found Patrick.
WAY HAY!United go three up. Nice run and pass from Fred.An Yling tackle on Rash then it broke to Bruno who scored with a great finish
Goals count.They sure help
Celtic are the first to miss a pen
it is 3-2 after three each
Hearts could win the Cup!!!
The Quadruple Treble could be off
Raphinha down off a great tackle from Fred
