Can Burnley keep up their good form or can Villa do the same in the Battle of the Claret and Blues?
Can Wolves pour more misery on Chelsea who have a new boss?
Can Brighton extend the gap of the bottom three?
Can Everton over take Liverpool? Can Leister overtake United?
Can Manchester United go back on top of the lot?
Can the Blades fall even further back?
I'll take a Villa win.
I'll take a Wolves win.
I'll take a Brighton win
I'll take an Everton win.
I'll take a United romp!!!
Hiya, Dave - thanks for getting us going today. I'll trust that United will absolutely muller the Evil Blades today.
In the other ones, I'll take:
Villa win
Chelski win
Brighton-Fulham draw
Everton-Leicester draw
Interesting line-ups at Stamford Bridge:
Chelsea: Mendy, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Thiago Silva, Chilwell, Kovacic, Jorginho, Ziyech, Havertz, Hudson-Odoi, Giroud
Subs: Kepa, James Some, Alonso, Emerson, Mount, Pulisic, Abraham, Werner
Wolves: Patricio, Boly, Coady, Kilman, Semedo, Ait-Nouri, Dendoncker, Neves, Traore, Podence, Neto
Subs: Ruddy, However, Willian Jose, Fabio Silva, Vitinha, Cutrone, Says, Moutinho, Otasowie
Lampard favorites Mount Pulisic, and Werner have notably been relegated to the bench by Thomas Tuchel today. Hudson-Odoi and Giroud are favored.
Good Afternoon, Bob and Dave. Not sure which match to watch early on. Looks like everyone is going with Chelsea vs Wolves. I think I will root for the same results as Dave
Azpi replaces Reese James and Rudiger back in the starting lineup. Not sure how Tuchel's tactics will differ from Lamps's Jose style tactics.
Players paying tribute to twenty one athletes who lost their lives during the Holocaust.
The Thomas Tuchel era is underway from SB
A claret and sky blue derby underway from Turf Moor as Burnley hosts Villa
Chelsea doing most of the early attacking with nice ne touch passing. Nice pass across the box by Hudson-Odoi, but nobody was able to connect
Chilly wins a corner off of Nelson Semedo
Corner by Ziyech headed away by the first man
Chelsea with 86% of the possession. That's a s much a sign as Wolves playing for a 0-0 draw as anything else
Olly Watkins gives Villa the lead at Turf Moor
Villa now up to eighth
Kai Havertz goes on a solo run and has a shot deflected for a corner
I am back for the matches
Afternoon Boys
Hudson-Odoi gets past Ait-Nouri , has a cross headed out then Ziytech shoots straight at Rui Patricio
Welcome back, Dave
Rudiger is called for a foul on Danny Podence just outside thwe Chelsea D. Didn't see much in that
Free kick from Ruben Neves several feet over
Danny Podence and Thiago Silva down off a collision. Both look able to continue.
Podence still getting treatment
Play resumes and there should be several minutes of stoppage time due to the injuries
Cross from Ziyech breaks to Rudiger and his shot is blocked for a cornert off the corner
Everything here is still okay with us
Kathy has been contacted by contact tracer and the county but no symptoms at all
She's working from home
Connor Coady off with a bloody schnoz. Not sure if he will be able to continue
Villa are really good side!!
They only JUST survived the drop on the last day of the season....that including the goal that never was that helped them
Glad everything is going well with you, Kathy, and the family. Wishing you and the family safety and health and delighted Kathy is able to work from the house.
I think of Villa as a mid table side which is an improvement over last season. If that goal had counted and the Blades would have won 0-1 then Villa would have been relegated instead of the Cherries. Very fine margins
There are four matches in the Championship kicking off at 2. The big one is is third vs fourth as the Swans host the Bees. One of those two will be second at the end of the match
That was the goal I talking about
I think Villa are better than mid table
Not sure why I said Villa in eighth. They're in seventh ahead of the Toffees on goal difference
They have really improved. It will be interesting to see if they can maintain their form over the second half of the season. Strange how that goal completely changed the course of things
I think Tuchel was Klopp's assistant at Dortmund then succeeded him at Dortmund.
Stupid foul by Semedo on Chilly near the flag
Decent save by Rui Patricio from a Rudiger header off the free kick
Dendoncker heads over a cross from Podence on the following possession
Villa could have scored 4 times in the last 30 seconds
WOW! I may switch over to the match at Turf Moor for the second half
I got both going on the computer
You need to go get Roku Express
Hudson-Odoi wins a corner off of Ait-Nouri off a slide rule pass from Ziyech
Villa one up at the half
A trio of stoppage time minutes at SB
half time at Turf Moor
Villa lead 1-0 but it could and should have been more
It's 0-0 at the half at SB
HT at SB... goalless....I'll take that
Weird...the half time show from the studio is on the Chelsea link
On the Burnley link....just commercials are stories
We are off in Lancashire.....after Dyche runs across the pitch after coming out of the tunnel late
United's line up to be announced in less than ten minutes
I hope it is a strong line up
3 points is a must
Pulesic and his new boss joking around with each other on the side lines
Chelsea want a pen...never a foul!
HATE THE FALLING OVER!
Why are they embarrassed
Ben Mee equalizes for the hosts
Second half underway and Nuno makes a change as Ait-Nouri who got roasted by Hudson-Odoi in the first half, replaced by former Pool reserve, Kejana Hoover
I just switched over to the match at Turf Moor
Villa should have been out of sight but now they are level
Dwight McNeil down for Burnley
Just saw the replay of the goal by Ben Mee. Nice header off the corner , but poor marking
Play resumes
Another flop by a player
Jorginho should be booked for that!
Villa down to eighth with Burnley eight points above the drop zone
An interesting note about my PPP picks. In both domestic cup competitions the teams I picked to meet in the final met in earlier rounds.
LC: Spurs vs Chelsea 4th Round
FA Cup: United vs Pool 4th Round
Gudmunsson on for Robbie Brady
Not really liking the changes for OGS!!
De Gea, ObiWan, Taunz, Mags, Telles
Matic, Pogba
Greenwood, Bruno, Martial
Rash
Nice long solo run by Jack Grealish then shoots powerfully at Nick Pope. Started with a throw from Martinez
I agree. United need a big win to make up the goal difference from Citeh
Barnsley takes the lead vs Cardiff. Barnsley up to tenth. They would have been relegated last season If Wigan hadn't been deducted points
Decent save by Martinez from Chris Wood off a pass from Pieters off a pass from Dwight McNeil
GOAL !!! JACK GREALISH GIVES VILLA A 1-2 LEAD. NICE TEAM GOAL
Villa retake the lead... Grealish!
Villa won the ball in midfield.Nice pass from John MCGinn to Grealish, who passed wide right to Doug Luiz then his return pass was put away by Grealish
Wonder if Villa players have to really think about it when they Burnley or West Ham..... vice versa too
Olly Watkins has a soft shot comfortably saved by Nick Pope
Like for like as Matty Vydra on for J Rod
Desmond... McNeil at the back post!
Neto...chips the keeper and hits the top of the crossbar
GOAL !!! DESMOND. AN UNUSUAL ERROR FROM MARTINEZ AS A CROSS FROM DWIGHT MCNAIL INTENDED FOR VYDRA FOLLS MARTINEZ AS GOES IN AS A GOAL FOR MCNEILL
Podence off for Wolves....he always seems to be subbed....he seems annoyed
Pulesic about to come on for the Blues
I so hope they drop more points
GOAL !!! A WELL PLACED HEADER BY CHRIS WOOD GIVES BURNLEY A 3-2 LEAD
Burnley take the lead for the first time tonight
Leeds Reject Wood scores!
10 points clear of the drop zone!
Great cross by Dwight McNeil off a pass from Vydra
No power just perfect placement
Villa down to tenth place while Burnley now nine points clear of the drop zone
Thought that as a member of the striker's union you would have appreciated that header. We saw lots of those types of headed goals when we lived in England
We sure did
Wood almost in again
I so hope Chelsea don't get a late winner... love to see them drop points post-lamp
Double substitution from Dean Smith. Trezeguet on for Bernie Traore and El Gazi for Ross Barkley
Agreed. A 0-0 draw would be a decent result for us at SB
I have an interesting bit of trivia about Wolves vs Chorely. Not sure if anyone mentioned it on Friday
What is it?
Mount coming on for Chelsea
The final roll of the dice for Dean Smith and an attacking one as Keenan Davis is on for Doug Luiz. Why so late when in need of a goal?
Friday was not the first time Wolves and Chorely met in the cup. They met in the first round in 1986 when Wolves were in the Fourth Division. Chorely won 3-0 in a second replay after two 1-1 draws
I knew that
2 of 4 added minutes left at TM
Still 3 of the 90 left at SB
Rotherham takes the lead at the Riverside on the stroke of halftime. Rotherham still in the drop zone, but just two points from safety with two games in hand
Great turn from Mount.... cross blocked
It was a modern day cross...to no one
You sure are an encyclopedia of footie knowledge. You could make a fair amount of quid if you wrote one
I saw the highlights of the 3-0 win
Wolves are dangerous on the break
It's over at Turf Moor and Burnley have come from behind to defeat Villa 3-2
Burnley get a great come from behind twice victory!
Last minute of the 90 in the capital
I'm now watching the match at SB. About to enter stoppage time
A trio of stoppage time minutes
3 added minutes
How did you find out about Chorely beating Wolves? Had you known that for a while?
Chelsea being very patient...keep passing the ball OUTSIDE the box
I'm sure this will not Tuchel Thomas's fancy.
I read something after the draw
Wolves were a 4th tier team at the time tho
Burnley will pose a challenge for Tuchel and co on Sunday
Less than a minute to go... still just passing it around!
Makes no sense!!
Pulisic with a cross deflected for a corner
Blues have a corner with 15 seconds to go
Kai Havertz with a header over in the last second and it finishes 0-0
A big header chance.... blocked for another corner but there is no time for a second kick
Ends 0-0
I think that header was going in
Now I'm off to the AMEX
Either way it's impressive that you knew that
United MUST boost their GD today!
The link from Goodison has started
OH! Best move of the match. Tongue N' Cheek won a tackle at the half way line and the ball broke to Cavaliero who went on a long solo run then shot just wide from just outside the box
We definitely want the Foxes out of the winner's column tonight
If Leicester win, they would keep pace with United.... hopefully not overtaking them
Also, an Everton win would take them above Liverpool....that is never a bad thing
I'll be switching to the one at Goodison soon. Other than the last run the match at the AMEX has been a borefest.
Everton could be level with Leicester if they win their games in hand
I'm definitely rooting for the Toffees
I haven't bothered to tune in to that one
Chelsea are in 8th on 30 points...ahead of the Gunners by 4 goals
They are TEN points behind United before United kick off their game in hand tonight
Brighton should have scored on that break that NBC just showed
Z Cars being played at Goodison....United coming out as well
OF COURSE....NBC are off to commercials
Pass from Trossard off Tosin for a Seagulls corner
Leicester look like Leeds from last night
Wise move, Dave. You haven't really missed anything
Come on United.... score early AND often
Alexis McAllister booked for holding back Anguissa on a Cottagers break
We are off at Old Trafford
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
COME ON MAN U
Agreed, Dave. We could use a win around 8-0 to 10-0.
They're off from OT!
COME ON MAN UNITED ! WON BY A TON
United's only loss in the Prem to the Blades....first ever match...Brian Deane scored the league's first goal as they beat the future Champs 2-1
Already playing it around in our own box...."desire to play it out of the back"
MORONIC!!!!!!
I have now switched to the match from Goodison
Martial has hurt his shoulder... bring on Cavani!!
He doesn't look happy
He fell and hurt his arm on the stretch
Now Got United's Martial Arts master down. Looks like he took an awkward tumble
Of course....he's French which doesn't help
Barnsley two up vs Cardiff
United better not over look this match!!!!
It should be looked at as to attack attack attack
Bob will be pleased that Coventry has taken the lead vs Not a Big Club
I don't United have been inside the Blades' half
Play resumes and agreed. Every match is crucial at this point
They ARE a big club
History, fan base, ground and trophies
Cardiff pulls one back at Barnsley. Now 2-1
Get the ball in the box!
trying to be too cute
Foxes on top to start
United have the wrong man in the middle of top
Martial is the least lethal
Their league position over the past half century indicates otherwise. Second from bottom of the Championship and half a dozen points from safety. Their finances indicate otherwise too
United being too patient..... I HATE THIS CRAP
GO FOR THE THROAT
Don't care.....they are going thru a rough patch but they were finishing high up in the Prem and making Cup Finals in the 90s
GO FORWARD
From a big city too.... the bigger of the two clubs
That's s long ago that we were in our youth back then. The rough patch is turning in to a generational problem. The 90s was a brief renaissance
The ball has not been inside the Sh. Utd box.... ONCE!
TEN MINUTES IN!!
Who cares about possession!!!
How about putting the ball in the box 10 times and scoring 20% of the time!!
City beat a lowly team by 5....the ball is United' court now
Answer your cross city rivals
Rashford hits one just wide.....FINALLY a chance
HIT THE TARGET!!
I feel like an Owl just not giving a hoot on Wednesday or any other day of the week. From a big city , but less successful than some small town clubs
I do agree that we need to emulate what Citeh did yesterday
Shoot it Martial....he wanted to take another touch and be too tricky! He should have hit right when it dropped back to him
Still all Foxes at Goodison who are wearing the same away kit Leeds did yesterday
I disagree with you and Bob....history matters!!
I said the same thing early....Leicester look like the Leeds of yesterday
Shot from the Fourth President skims the top of the net of a run and pass from Harvey Barnes
Great minds think alike regarding the kits
Come on Toffees...get a goal!!
Preferably by James
STRUTH... Blades almost in...saved by De Gea..offside anyway
Then Greenwood.... doesn't get a shot off
Wouldn't that make the Tangerines a big club or at least a decent size one? I don't think of them as one
This was my fear, United starting off slowly because they are expected to win!
I'm finally home from the office and am settling in to enjoy this one with you. Bring on the goals!
Cardiff have come from two down to make it Desmond at Barnsley
83% possession....NO SHOTS ON TARGET
What's the point
Welcome Stranger
You buggered off after you lot got the win yesterday
Looks like the Blades have signed up for a breast cancer awareness charity do today.
Good afternoon, Bob. Hope you can bring our United some goals. We've had a flat start
Took your three points and took your ball home
SPEED IT UP!!!!!!
Sorry, mate - I had to hop it and take care of a bunch of work. Getting set for the semester, which starts next week.
LOL, Bob. Foxes guilty of plagiarizing Leeds's away kit
Too many passes
Too many cute flicks
SHOOT THE DAMN BALL
Second half begins at the Amex
Bring on Cavani....he cares
Bees take the lead at the Swans. Bees now second, ahead of the Hornets on goal difference
Sheff Utd have been more dangerous than Man Utd
Too much walking.... already 20 minutes in....how many had City scored already?
Wasabi clears for an Evil Blades corner
Not at all happy with the earlier results. It looks increasingly like Burnley are going to be safe.
And the Blades take the lead
ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC!!
Bloody hell! Sorry, chaps - the Blades have scored.
