Back to the Prem
I'm up a bit late for the first match today due to our usual weekend late night. We're heading back into Premier League play this morning after the 3rd Round FA Cup interlude. The first half of the Citeh v. Chelsea match is coming to a goalless end on Peacock at the moment.
That's followed today by the 10 o'clockers, including the relegation dogfight between Newcastle and Watford on USA. Of course, I'm hoping for a draw in that one.
And we come to an with Villa v. United, which Ralf Rangnick's boys will hope to get back to winning ways. Join me if you're around today.

Good Morning, Bob. Thanks for getting us started. It's 0-0 at the half. Citeh have done the majority off the attacking and had a few chances to take the lead.
Yesterday the Seagulls vs Palace finished 1-1
Morning, David - thanks for joining me. I'm glad to see that you're enjoying your mountain view.
In the Championship Luton surprisingly two up vs the table topping Cherries at the half. Blackburn up to second, slightly behind the Cherries on goal difference. They are one up at Cardiff at the half
I was really happy with score draw yesterday. It keeps both sides within reach of Leeds.
Thanks , Bob. The house is starting to take shape and will be looking forward to you, Kate, and the LOBers visiting to see the view.
Seagulls up to eighth ahead of the weekend matches with Palace currently in 11th place. That was basically a mid table fixture
WOW ! I guess I was so busy unpacking that I failed to realize that Chris Wood moved to the Toon. Burnley is in real trouble as he was their main source of goals. It will be tough to see them surviving without him
The second half is underway from the Etihad
The teams are back out for the second half. Here are the sides:
Manchester City: Ederson, Walker, Stones, Laporte, Joao Cancelo, De Bruyne, Rodri, Bernardo Silva, Sterling, Grealish, Foden.
Subs: Dias, Gundogan, Gabriel Jesus, Steffen, Fernandinho, Mbete-Tabu, McAtee, Lavia, Wilson-Esbrand.
Chelsea: Arrizabalaga, Sarr, Thiago Silva, Rudiger, Azpilicueta, Kante, Kovacic, Alonso, Ziyech, Pulisic, Lukaku.
Subs: Jorginho, Werner, Loftus-Cheek, Bettinelli, Saul, Barkley, Mount, Hudson-Odoi, Havertz.
Referee: Craig Pawson (South Yorkshire).
Oh - chances at both ends to start the half. The Chunk was clean through but Ederson did well to block him.
OH!~ Nice through ball from Kovacic and with just Ederson to beat the Chunk see his shot blocked by the keeper then Ziyech shot the rebound well over
What do you think of Chris Wood's move to SJP. Great for thew Toon and horrible for Burnley.
In L2 Newport up to fifth place as they are now three up vs Harrogate
Yes, I was delighted to see that Chris Wood move. Although he's only scored three goals in the Premier League for Burnley this season, he is still the main source of goals for the Clarets. Added to that is that their new boy Cornet is away at the African Cup of Nations. So, they're left with Matty Vydra and Jay Rodriguez, who have scored a combined total of one goal in the Prem. I had thought that Sean Dyche might be able to do the usual rescue act and that Watford might eventually drop but I might have changed my mind now. Selling Wood is a capitulation.
A draw is definitely my preferred result in this one.
That's an accurate description. Hard to see the rescue act as it was built on goals from Chris Wood. After the international break, Max Cornet and J Rod will need to chip in with some goals to have any chance of Burnley surviving
Meanwhile, I can't see Chris Wood rescuing Newcastle either, especially as he'll have to bed in with a new system. Newcastle don't really "play to the big man" as Burnley does. That's his preferred mode. He doesn't like to run onto ball like St. Max and Cally Wilson do.
I guess I'm rooting for Chelsea, but it's up to United to do the business at Villa Park today
I thought Sterling was tripped in the box, but it doesn't matter as the offside flag was raised
Raheem Sterling goes down in the box and there is a big shout for a penalty. Instead there is a late, late offside flag.
I agree with you about Wood, but I guess Eddie Howe was desperate to get a proven goal scorer at this level and Chris Wood may be the best that was available . Despite having a seemingly unlimited budget it may be hard to attract top players to a club that may be relegated
Tomorrow the repeat of last eekenbd's FA Cup fixture is on the Cock while Pool vs the Bees is on USA. Pool will definitelty be hoping for a draw
The Cherries wake up as they pull one back in Bedfordshire and now trail 2-1
In L2 Newport smoking Harrogate as they are now a Barber Shop Quartet up
Jack Grealish goes on one of his runs like he did at Villa. Went past Azpi then tripped by Kante just outside the Chelsea box
Free kick from KDB straight to the Chelsea Kepa and should have been caught byut flapped it around for a corner, . The Kepa punched the corner and now Chelsea break
Still no changes by either manager, but Chelsea has a couple of subs warming up
Thanks to our new Roku set-up that we got in VA over the holdays and thanks to your access to the Peacock, I'm now able to enjoy the match on the big screen. Cheers!
Marcos Alonso with a cross blocked by Kyle walker for a Chelsea corner
I'm not sure that Chris Wood has ever proven himself in the top division. He can certainly pull up some trees in the Championship but he's too static at this level.
You're welcome . Glad you can watch on the big screen . That's how I'm watching this match
And intriguingly, Newcastle come to visit Elland Road next weekend. Chris should get a hot reception.
I agree that Chris wood is not a really skillful player, but he's a natural finisher and I'm guessing that Eddie Howe is looking for him to chip in with some goals against the fellow relegation strugglers like the Hornets today. I just checked his stats and he averages about a dozen Prem goals a season , so he might score just enough to keep the Troon up then be shipped off this Summer for a much better player
GOAL! KDB GIVES CITEH THE LEAD
GOAL! KDB latches onto a ball and curls a delicious shot past Kepa!
1-0 Citeh!
What a typically top drawer goal from KDB that came out of the blue. Citeh won header in midfield and out of the middle of nowhere KDB went past Kante then curled a great shot in the corner from 25 yards out
Close range volley by werner well blocked by La Porte
Cityeh now a baker's dozen points clear of Chelsea and fourteen clear of Pool, who host the Bees tomorrow. That may be cut to an eleven point lead
As things stand Chelsea is basically out of the title race. Pool needs to win their two games in hand to keep their slim hopes alive. That would put them eight points behind Citeh
WOW ! Citeh have won eleven consecutive Prem matches, out scoring the opposition 33-7. No wonder why they're running away with the league
If Citeh go on to win this one, they'll be 13 points ahead of Chelsea in second, fourteen above Liverpool in third. Liverpool do have a couple of matches in hand but it'll be hard to catch Citeh at this point.
This score doesn't Tuchel Tommy's fancy.
The final roll of the dice from Tommy Tuchel as Marcos Alonso is Mounted off the pitch. Pep has yet to make a substitution. He'll wait till stoppage time to attempt to ruin Dave's day. As if Dave needs another reason to hate Pep.
I'd love to see Chelsea get one back right about now.
Oh - Sterling robbed the ball some thirty yards out and sets up Foden who blasts over.
KDB comes off to a hero's ovation. Gundogan replaces him.
Scotty Parker must have had quite a talk at the half as the Cherrie s have come from tow down at the half to make it 2-2 in Bedfordshire. Cherries top, a point clear of Blackburn , who are currently one up at Cardiff. As things stand the Cottagers will go top if they defeat Bristol City in the 10 AM match. That's not idle gossip.
I would to. If not Chelsea is basically out of the title race and it's only January
Gundogan came on for KDB, so not all three substitutions will be made in stoppage time
Wow - the North London Derby is off for tomorrow!
Just in from Arlo that the North London Derby tomorrow is postponed. The Gunners have only one COVID case. Injuries and players away on ANC duty. I agree with you that they need to play the matches
Citeh just trying to pass their way to the end of this match.
Jesus on for for Phil Foden
Agreed, Bob. Citeh passing the time away
That's a crazy decision - there are a lot of sides who have players away at the ANC.
Agreed, Bob. The league needs to address this or else matches will be canceled left and right with fixture congestion at the end of the season
It's over and Citeh win 1-0 and have all but won the Premier League
That's it - Citeh prevail due to that lone KDB strike.
Not a thrilling list of 10 AM matches. Toon vs Hornets in a relegation six pointer on USA, Canaries vs Toffees and Wolves vs Saints on the Cock.
I'm off to run a quick errand ahead of the 10 AM matches.
I'm back after a bite of brekkies to check in on the start of the 10 o'clock matches. I may head off to the shower.
The teams coming out at SJP:
Newcastle: Dubravka, Trippier, Lascelles, Schar, Dummett, Shelvey, Joelinton, Longstaff, Fraser, Saint-Maximin, Wood.
Subs: Darlow, Gillespie, Ritchie, Lewis, Krafth, Murphy, Almiron, Willock, Anderson.
Watford: Foster, Ngakia, Samir, Cathcart, Kamara, Sissoko, Dennis, Kucka, Kayembe, King, Pedro,
Subs: Bachmann, Cleverley, Sema, Tufan, Femenia, Kabasele, Hernandez, Sierralta, Morris.
Hey Guys
I am here for the 10 o'clockers. My friend is coming over for the late match so I can't be rude to him
We're away at SJP.
Jonjo Shelvy has a go from a full volley right from the off. Well off the mark.
Welcome, Dave! David just went off to do a few errands. He wasn't thrilled by these matches.
My cousin's hubby is at Fratton Park...first home match of the year... choca-block full!
Fulham v Bristol City is delayed by 15 minutes due to a power outage at Craven Cottage. Millwall v Forest will start at 3.10pm due to a medical emergency in the crowd.
It's all going on!
How's his weather?
What are you getting?
We have -40 wind chill!!
Trivia....-40 is the only temperature the same in both scales
I'd love to be there.
It's bloody cold here, as well. I had to go to campus yesterday and froze my tootsies. I'm going nowhere.
Like the trivia.
Not a good tackle by Shelvey...lucky it was just outside the box
Free kick chance now for the visitors.
Straight into the wall. These two are Championship level.
Really ambitious effort now by Josh King. What was he thinking?
Back for the 10 AM matches. Free kick from Manny Dennis into the wall then volleyed well over
BOTH of you need to come visit soon!
How much snow is expected? We were going to get a Foot but maybe now only 8
The walk today with Shad was unbearable
Still thawing out
Hi David, how is your weather? Are you in that snow belt?
Good morning Dave . It's overcast and 40 above here. First time on the LOB that all three of us have snow in the forecast at the same time.
I had no interest in getting up for the early one... boring!!
Our pal Richard Erwin (aka Yellows) is live streaming from Carrow Road. I feel for him - Norwich are going down for sure.
I slept through half of it - Citeh are boring but relentless. They always find a way.
Oooh.....off the woodwork from the Toon!
We're at the southern tip of the snowbelt. It's supposed to snow from midnight tonight until tomorrow. I think we're supposed to get anywhere from three to six inches of snow varying from forecaster two forecaster
Oh - Joelinton off the bar! Chris Wood should have been following in. You know that Ronaldo would have been.
Agreed. Following the Canaries can sometimes be a thankless task
Is a former Prem Champion coming back into the lead?
Blackburn won in Cardiff and Luton scored a injury time winner vs Bournemouth
Cherries and Rovers tied at the top....Fulham could ponce
We're supposed to get smacked on Monday. I'll be getting some exercise for sure.
Did you buy yourself a shovel?
Would love to visit Dave. We're still unpacking and almost caught up on repairs. Should;d be good to go in a couple of weeks. Would love for you all to visit
Does your semester start on Monday?
NO I did not. It's rare to get this much snow. This only happens once every few winters here.
Both these teams are attacking.... I like it
Kate's dad got us an electric snowblower last year but I still like to shovel it if it's around a foot or less. Gives me an hour or so of cardio. If it's more than a foot, we get the Snow Joe out.
WOW! Luton won it late 3-2 vs the tables topping Cherries , who are only on top of Blackburn on goal difference. Cottagers will go top with at least a draw vs Bristol City
It's true - I like the way that Newcastle play but they're just not very good. And I need them to go down.
That sounds like shoveling weather for us probably Monday morning.
Norwich have taken the lead through a Michael Keane o.g. Yellows will be delighted. I need a draw in that one.
Canaries take the lead vs the Toffees
Canaries now two up
Adam Idah with the second Canaries goal
I finished my last duties hanging over me from last semester yesterday, so I'm officially on sabbatical now. Lovely!
Bloody hell - Norwich have scored again through Idah! Everton are in all sorts of problems!
I want them to stay up...let Burnley and Watford go down
Everyone thinks that it would be a disaster if the Toon go down. I don't think so. Getting relegated hurts teams in the wallet...it won't for Newcastle. If they go down, they buy the best Championship players...come straight back up...and buy Prem players
Joelintin misses at the back post
The Spring 2022 semester here starts next week on the 24th. I'll be sleeping in (LOL!)....
Bob will be amused at the lack of ball control by Chris Wood with just the keeper to beat. Blocked for a corner Joe Linton volleys just wide off the cross from Wee Ryan after he got the ball back from his short corner
Norwich strangely enough have won one more match than the teams around them. They've just lost more.
I agree with Dave about the Toon. As Long asd Leeds stay up any other three can go down. The Prem would be better off without the likes of Burnley and the Hornets
Congrats Bob!
What are you going to do?
The Canaries now third from bottom , one point from safety behind the Hornets , who have been their partners in relegation and promotion the past two seasons
Totally agree - if I had my choice, I'd have Brighton, Watford and Burnley going down.
I've got two books I'm working on plus six articles. Kate and I are working on one about the history of EdTPA.
In a statistical oddity The Canaries cannot get out of the drop zone today because the Toon and Hornets are playing each other. Either the Hornets will stay out of the drop zone or they will replace the Toon in the drop zone
Norwich are TWO up
Aren't you two smarty pants!
WOW. Sounds as if you will be busier than working at the college even though your schedule will be really flexible in comparison
I'm also scheduled for two research trips - one to Florida and one to Purdue in Indiana to meet up with some teams I'm working with. And a conference in San Diego in April. All of that is contingent on what's going on with Covid.
Bristol City take the lead at Bob and Kate's, which isn't idle gossip. Cottagers third, a point behind the Cherries and Blackburn
Terriers up to fifth place as they take the lead vs the Swans . Coventry two up at Posh
I like how Newcastle gets the ball into the box
Pompey one down to MKD at FP
Far Dons took the lead at Fratton Park. Sorry, Dave. Hope Pompey come from behind for your cousin's hubby's trip to Fratton Park
Best of luck mate
I heard you need to go to something in Albany or Saratoga...hint hint
Agreed. The Toon have played well and it's so tight in the relegation fight that no team is certain of going down. Its appears that 35 points may be enough to survive this year. A couple of pure crap teams may survive this year
I second that. Wish you well at the conferences
I will be attending snow shoveling conferences in Albany and Fred Town in a couple of weeks.
Cheers, mate - I'd love to see you guys once this Omicron wave clears up. I hear that the numbers are just starting to plateau.
Fulham losing at home to Bristol C
They are blowing their chance to go top...they won at Reading midweek 7-0!!
Other big match at the top of the Championship
QPR hosting WBA...no goals
A visiting Everton supporter has just run onto the pitch and tried to get to Benitez. Overall, I would say things are not going well for the Spaniard.
I'm tired of these yo-yo clubs like WBA and Fulham popping back up into the Premier League and then doing nothing. I'd much prefer to see a club like Forest or QPR, who've been out of things for a while, have a chance.
Cheers, Bob. Agreed that once Omnicromn clears up we're better able to visit each other. I'm a day drive from both of you and nine hours from Steve and Johnno.
Agreed, Raffa seems to be on borrowed time. Tough time for him with the Toffees.
Wolves lead Saints
Agreed about the yoyo clubs. Black burn has been in excellent. They would be another possibility too.
Just don't get stuck on I-95 in a couple of inches of snow - those authorities down your way don't know how to plow.
Raul Jimenez has slotted home a penalty for Wolves against Soton. That works for me. Wolves are mid-table and Soton are fairly close to us.
That penalty from Jimenez moves Wolves up to eighth place, behind United on goal difference
I hate all this overacting!!!
I don't think I take I 95 to get to any of you except perhaps Steve for a short stretch. My neighbors have told me that the county does a decent job of clearing the roads, but probably not in the lower elevations like I 95
Chris Wood wants a pen - VAR checking it. The ball was already gone.
Wood challenged... never a pen....unless you're a City or Pool player
Fulham are all square at Bob and Kate's
If Wolves win by four or more they will move ahead of United on goal difference. What does that make United?
Did you two have a good birthday week?
Well, to come see me you've go over the mountains through WVA. It's a lovely drive - I've done it many times on my way to Florida.
CRAP
Cottagers now top of the Championship. The top three all level on points. That's what I call a promotion race
Lovely birthday week, thanks - we just hung around and watched 80s movies and played games. And cooked.
Thanks for the tip Boib. Sound like a lovely drive up to PA. You all will love the drive in this area. It's really scenic
Glad you two had a great birthday. Well done
wonder why the match at Bob and Kate's started fifteen minutes late. Did it have anything to do with the late lie in?
Fulham have fallen behind again!
Not a Big Club two up vs Argyle Sweater
Salford takes the lead at Bradford
A pair of stoppage time minutes
I think Bob posted something about the two games starting late
Quick goals at Bob and Kate's house . Bristol City took a 1-2 lead the the Cottagers tied it up. Now 2-2
HT at SJP
Wycombe on top of L1 as they taker the lead vs Oxford in a promotion six pointer local derby
It's 0-0 at the half at SJP. A good score for Bob
Yeah - there was a medical emergency at the Den and a power outage at Craven Cottage.
Wahey! Woke up to the good news that the NLD is off tomorrow. That'll make the Arsonists choke on their lasagna.
Watching Norwich because I want both the Hornets and the TyneSaudis to be be relegated.
Bit concerned about Pickers. Gareth should pay attention to his lack of form.
I had to change my google password for work, and I can't remember it on my laptop. And I can't be arsed to go downstairs to find it.
0-0 at HT at SJP - suits me just fine. I'm off to the shower.
So cool to see you set up in the new gaff Al Prez. May you enjoy many later mornings now and in the future.
Reading how much Chelsea fans are complaining about Lukaku
TT gave him a dig too
YIKES! Cottagers now lead 5-2. Is that a dozen goals in a match and a half? Cottagers now two points clear of the Cherries and Blackburn
Off we go again at SJP
Thanks, Steve,. Would love for everyone to come visit here.
Second half underway from SJP
Agreed about Pickers. Sounds like your wanting Ramsdale to start for the Three Lions. I would pick him based on current form
Kate scored in the 31st, Bob added a brace in the 36th and 41st minute and then Kate scored her second in the 46th
The MUFC Academy involved in both goals at CR. The OG by Michael Keane was based on what he learned at Burnley , not the MUFC Academy ands it came off a poor pass from Sargeant Josh. The assist from Brandon Williams did show what he learned at the MUFC Academy
News in from the Cottage.... Bob's second has been awarded to the coffee table...sorry Bob
GREAT RUN AND GOAL BY SAINT-MAX
Now HT str the end of a thrilling half at Bob and Kate's/ They really are on top of their game in terms of entertaining this morning
Defender caused the chance but still had a lot to do
GOAL ! ST. MAX GIVES THE THE TOON THE LEAD. HE PICKED THE RIGHT BACKJ'S POCKET THEN CUT IN SIDE THEN BEAT DANNY BTO AT THE NEAR POST
Toon out of the drop zone and replaced by the Hornets which adds a point or two for Yours truly in the PPP!
Burnley still in pole position to move out of the drop zone. All they have to do is win one of their matches in hand
The goalscorer seems to be hurt
I think he'll be off
Is that a rule, if it is a yellow card you don't have to go off after treatment. I didn't know that
Black Cats one up at Accrington Stanley and now top of L1, a point ahead of Wycombe
Fake Dons currently two up at Fratton Park. Sorry, Dave
Still a gap from the bottom four to Leeds and Everton
The Hornets really haven't shown up today, which is surprising in a relegation six pointer
Correct, Dave. Leeds needs to continue winning matches even though they have a tough one tomorrow at the Hammers in a rematch of last Sunday in the Cup
Rich Arlison pulls one back at CR . Now 2-1
Watford getting a few chances now
Newcastle need another goal
Josh King pout through for the Hornets and Great block by Dubravka for a Hornets corner
Wolves two up vs Saints . Catching to United'sgoals difference
Connor Coady with the Wolves goal
Bradford ties it up vs Salford
Joao Pedro with a free header , heads straight to Dubravka
Joe Linton down for the Toon
Pompey pulls it back to 1-2 vs the Fake Dons.
PLAY UP POMPEY!
Kiko on for Ngakia, who was at fault for the goal
Wycombe two up vs Oxford
I'm back from the shower and not at all happy to see that St. Max has fired Newcastle into the lead. I need a Watford equalizer.
