Champions League Tuesday
Hiya, chaps! It's a big afternoon of Champions League action. Man Utd face Atletico at Old Trafford in the second leg of their Round of 16 tie. United go into this one in pole position with a precious away goal from the 1-1 draw in Madrid two weeks ago. A simple 1-0 win or even a 0-0 draw would put them through to the quarters.
In the other tie, Ajaz host Benfica in a similar situation, having drawn 2-2 in Lisbon. Along with those matches, there is a hefty agenda of Championship action as well.
I'll be at an appointment with our tax attorneys from 2-4pm, but fortunately, the clocks haven't gone forward yet, so this one starts at 4pm on Paramount Plus, so I hope to join in close to kickoff. Come on, United!

Oblak down after Elanga collided into him heading a cross over. Back up after a minute of stoppage
In the Championship Cherries one up vs the Reading railroad as is Barnsley vs Bristol City. Barnsley now a point t behind Ince's lads
Hiya, David - I'm just back from doing my taxes and joining you. Hoping that this will be a winning evening for your United.
Cherries still second , but now five points ahead of the Terriers with two games in hand over the Terriers
Good Afternoon. Welcome and hope your taxes went well. Thanks for your support

Can't complain - we're getting nearly $4,000 back from the gov. Nice little earner.
Rotherham two up vs Abe Lincoln and half a dozen points clear of second placed Wigan
Agreed. We got back just under $5500. We both have reasons to be delighted.
That's a very cautious lineup put pout by Ralf Half. Hope these are Happy Days for us
David De Geas was signed eleven years ago from Athletico. Hope he bites the hand that fed him
I'm not sure why Ronaldo is playing so deep and wide. I want him bombing down the middle in the box.
Teesiders take the lead at St. Andrews and move up too fifth place
WAY HAY! Rams take the lead at Ewood Park and are now two points from safety
Agreed,. Why so cautious by Ralf. We need a win to advance
De Gea does well to turn around a shot headed for the upper 90.
Oh - great save by De Gea!
Oldham took the lead at Wasall. Now tied up. Northants one up at Stevenage. Oldham were out of the drop zone ahead of Stevenage on goal difference, but now back in the drop zone a pair of point behind Stevenage
That great news about Derby. I really hope that Wazza and co. can pull it out.
Barnsley two up vs Bristol City
In a battle of former United players , you might be interested to note that Wazza surviving may mean Ince being relegated,. I'm fine with that . How about you?
In L2 Rochdale takes the lead vs Salford in a local derby as does table topping Forest green vs the Orient Express
Oh - is that a pen? Referee's going to think about it. VAR check?
Nice potshot from Dalot - and why not? Test out the keeper.
Agreed. Oblak is a top keeper, but needs to be tested. We need to do that more often
I'm fine with that, too. I've got nothing against Incey, and I feel a bit sorry that he was thrown into a relegation battle. But I do think that Derby have been hard done by.
United can ill afford to Dilly Dalot. They need to settle this as Athletico , like the Foxes are good on the break then holding a lead
Agreed. The Reading Raoilroaders were docked half a dozen points, but nothing like the Rams twenty one. That's ridiculous
Bruno wins a corner off of former Citeh hard man, Savic
He is indeed a hard man. Yikes!
In L2 Barrow takes the lead at rock bottom Scunny Barrow now three points clear of the drop zone
Phew! Joao Felix sticks it away but is ruled offside. That looked scary.
BUGGER! PHEW! JOE FELIX THE CAT HAS A GOAL DISALLOWED FOR OFFSIDE Little Joe onside but the player that received the pass wide right that assisted Joe Felix was off when he received the pass
Agreed, Bob. A wake up call for United to pull their fingers out
Teesiders two up at Brum as they go fifth
United got off the hook there - Atleti had a man over but he went too early.
No it was offside . Teesiders one up at the half at St. Andrews, but still in fifth place
As long as it stays 0-0, there will always be that danger that Atleti can nick one.
Wigan took the lead at rock bottom Motley Crewe . Wigan second four points behind Rotherham and three points ahead of the Fake Dons
that's my fear Bob and that's how Athleti love to win matches., We need to score often against them
Still 0-0 in both CL matches
Elanga goes down looking for a free kick and instead blew a promising attack
BUGGER! ATHLETI TAKE THE LEAD STRAIGHT FROM THAT HORRIBLE ATTEMPT TO WIN A FEEE KICK
Bugger! Lodi has scored now. The danger was coming. Sorry, mate.
Nice header from Renan Lodi off a nice cross and possession, but De Gea beaten too easily at the post he was covering
Nice cross from the Grease Man off a nice passing possession
Nice move from Atletico, through Felix and Griezmann who chipped in a lovely ball for Lodi to attack.
That eliminates the away goal advantage that United had. Now they need two goals to go through. Come on!
Thanks, Bob. A deserved Athleti lead . Ralf needs to let the players have it at the half
Away goals rule was eliminated. No longer in effect. Un item need to tie it up to go into ET
Rodrigo De Paul booked for a late challenge on CR 7
A minute of stoppage time
Oh - okay, I didn't know that. I just assumed that that was still in effect. Well, in either case, United need a goal to force extra time and penalties and two goals for a win.
Oblak does well to turn around a server from Bruno from 25 yards out
Athleti one up at the half and Ralf will need to rattle some teapots at the half if United isto come back as they did in the first leg
Athleti one up at the half and Ralf will need to rattle some teapots if if United is to come back as they did in the first leg
Correct, Bob. That is a great description of the position facing United., Spot on, mate
Half-time: United are in trouble. They were on top for most of the first half and missed a couple of good chances before being felled by a cutting counter-attack. Atletico have them where they want them.
In L2 Swindon has come from behind to lead Sutton Un item 2-1 in a playoff six pointer. S=Swindon now fifth while Sutton is a point and a spot outside the playoffs
The fake Becky Lowe is a bit overblown in saying "the worst has happened." Yes, United are 0-1 down but it's not as if there's been a terrorist attack at OT. Come on, now.
BUGGER! Blackburn ties it up vs the Rams. Black now fifth while the Rams are four points from safety
Agreed. That's why she's a fake. United down because they lack the cutting edge , but one goal and the tie is level on agg.
In L1 Shrews three up vs Morecambe and None Too Wise. Morecambe a point and quite a goal difference from safety
BUGGER! Blackburn have come from behind to lead the Rams 2-1 . Wazza's lads now five pints from safety behind Ince's lads
Wigan two up at rock bottom Motley Crewe
Second half underway from OT.
COME ON UN ITED ! PULL YOUR FINGERS OUT!
Back for the second half now - come on, United!
In the other match, Ajax and Benfica are goalless tonight and level on aggregate at 2-2.
Oh - Elanga goes just wide of that far post. Good, bright start for United.
Elanga shoots just wide from a narrow angle. Decent united attack and start to the half
Now it's Jadon Sancho storming down toward goal. He tried to lay it off but it was cleared out.
One of the Atleti subs kicked the ball away and got a ticking off from the fourth official.
Shrews four up vs Morecambe and None Too Wise
Horrible clearance from David De Gea then makes up for it by saving from Rod De Paul
Lucky not to be booked for that outburst
Bob will not be pleased that Not a Big Club has taken the lead vs Accrington Stanley and are now in the last L1 playoff spot
Dave will not be pleased that Argyle Sweater has taken the lead vs Pompey. Argyle now fifth in L1
Teesiders go two up at St. Andrews. Florian Balogun, on loan from the Gunners, with the goal
Athleti have already shout up shop with ten men behind the ball
Shrews FIVE up vs Morecambe and Really foolish. Neither Morecambe nor Wise exactly taming the Shrews
Atleti predicting parking the bus. That's their way.
OH! Oblak does well to turn over a volley from Sancho
United need to start trying to beat players rather than just passing the ball about.
Agreed, Bob. As you stated once they scored they would sit on their lead. Spot on.
Agreed. The volley from Sancho is a sample of what United need to do more often
Wasall now leads oldham 2-1. Oldham now half a dozen points from safety and in danger of becoming the first Prem club to be relegated from the Football League
My mistake . Oldham three points from safety behind Stevenage
Very frustrating watching this match now - I hate Atleti's tactics. They're always like this - cynical.
Baggies take the lead vs the table topping Cottagers, whose lead over the Cherries is reduced to nine points
Agreed, Bob. This has been a tough one to watch
Now then - United have a free kick out wide left. Need to put this one on Maguire's noggin.
OH! free kick from Bruno just in front of CR 7
Oh - nearly there.
United triple substitution: Rashford, Pogba and Matic on for Elanga, McTominay and Fernandes.
Triple substitution and like for like as Rash is on for Elanga, Matic for McTomain and Pogo for Bruno. Why bring on match when we need a goal?
Not Good news for the Rams as Ince's lads tie it up at the Cherries. Rams now half a dozen points from safety while The Cottagers now have an eleven point lead over the Cherries
WAY HAY! Accrington Stanley ties it up at Hillsborough. Not a Big Club down to seventh place outside the playoff spots
The Reading Railroad goal scored by Tom Ince. Is he the son of the Gaffer?
Cynical foul by Hector Herrera on Varane . Should have been booked
Poor free kick caught by Oblak. That's what the set piece does Telles
Varane has earned a decent looking free kick opportunity now - might be Ronny range. No - Teles is over it.
Time wasting by Athleti and the ref conned. Llorente down in the box and now foul, but the ref stopped play then more time wasting as the Athlete players surround the ref. The ref resumes play with a drop ball
Another United free kick. They need to start making these count
Another free kick chance now - have to make these count.
OH! Great save by Oblak off the CR 7 header off the free kick then the rebound volleyed straight to Oblak
Oh - Oblak with a great save from Varane's header. And again from Ronny's acrobatic effort.
I can't believe that a player of Griezmann's quality wants to play in this kind of side. He's been a bystander for most of the match.
More dark arts deployed by the thuggish Savic.
Koke, the skipper is going to hobble off now. Away fans giving him an ovation.
Kondogbia on for him now.
Matic is a silly boy throwing the ball at Felix, who of course went down like a sack of spuds.
Sancho wins a corner - cleared out to Dalot who tries to curl one in.
Juan Mata comes on for Maguire - some derisive cheers for that from the OT crowd. I don't think they're liking big Harry right now.
Llorente pushes Sancho and United have another free kick chance.
Dalot with a professional foul there and he picks up a yellow.
Benfica takes the lead at Ajax and now leads 3-2 on agg
Not sure why Darren Fletcher got a yellow card - running his mouth?
Fletch booked for complaining about Athetis time waiting tactics
Not a good night for the home sides.
Then Herrera goes down but he was caught by Pogba in the jaw
Into a Barber Shop Quartet of stoppage time minutes and Yours Truly singing the Blues
Late United free kick
United pumping the ball up now. They just need one chance.
Come on, now!
Horrible free kick from Telles headed away by the first man
Really poor free kick there by Dalot.
Correa on for Grease Man in stoppage time to waste time
Rash wins a corner
Late, late corner now - De Gea is up!
That's it - sorry, David. Simeone grinds it out as he likes to do.
Oblakcatches the corner and it's over as Sumeone sprints to the dressing room pelted by objects from United fans
Cheers Bob. Thanks for being around for support.
Over to Amsterdam as Ajax are about to go out, too.
